In a class of direct gauge mediation with a perturbatively stable SUSY breaking vacuum, gaugino masses vanish at the leading order of SUSY breaking F-term. We study the allowed parameter space of the gauge mediation models. By imposing a Tevatron bound on the lightest chargino mass m_{{\tilde χ}^\pm_1} > 270 GeV and a warm dark-matter mass bound on the light gravitino mass m_{3/2} < 16 eV, we find that almost all the parameter space is excluded. Near future experiments may completely exclude, or possibly discover, the scenario.
Very light gravitino scenario m_{3/2} < 16 eV is very interesting, since there is no cosmological problem. However in such a scenario, stability of the vacuum is an important issue. Recently, Yonekura and one of the authors RS have investigated the parameter space of a low scale gauge mediation with a perturbatively stable vacuum and found that there are severe upper bound on the gaugino masses. In this paper, we show that such a model can be completely excluded/discovered at very early stage of the LHC run.
We study low-scale gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models with a very light gravitino of mass $\mathcal{O}(1)$ eV. The cosmological upper bound on the gravitino mass and the collider constraints on the sparticle masses give a significant impact on such models. We apply the latest results of the LHC to these models and obtain the current constraints. We find that perturbatively calculable classes of low-scale gauge mediation models can be largely excluded.
Gauge mediation of supersymmetry breakdown has many attractive features and can be realized in phenomenologically interesting string-motivated models. We point out that in models with the Polonyi-like field stabilized at a low expectation value by quantum corrections, gravity seems to limit from above the admixture of gravity mediation to the dominant gauge mediation channel. However, we also point out that in a class of such models the low energy metastable supersymmetry breaking vaccum appears to be cosmologically disfavoured. These features should hold also in the case of typical stabilized…
We study the vacuum stability in the anomaly mediated supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking models with massive neutrinos. It is shown that, because of the seesaw-induced mass terms for neutrinos, the true vacuum has a large negative cosmological constant provided that the vacuum where we now live has an (almost) vanishing cosmological constant. Although the quantum transition into the true vacuum from our false vacuum is highly suppressed, the thermal transition at high temperatures may not be neglected because of the thermal excitations. However, we find that the thermal transition is, in fact, negl…
No-scale supersymmetry or gaugino mediation augmented with large negative Higgs soft masses at the input scale provides a simple solution to the supersymmetric flavor problem while giving rise to a neutralino LSP. However, to obtain a neutralino LSP it is often necessary to have tachyonic input Higgs soft masses that can give rise to charge-and-color-breaking (CCB) minima and unbounded-from-below (UFB) directions in the low energy theory. We investigate the vacuum structure in these theories to determine when such problematic features are present. When the standard electroweak vacuum is only m…
We constrain the parameter space of the minimal and gaugino-assisted anomaly mediation, and gaugino mediation models by requiring that the electroweak vacuum corresponds to the deepest minimum of the scalar potential. In the framework of anomaly mediation models we find strong lower bounds on slepton and squark masses. In the gaugino mediation models the mass spectrum is forced to be at the TeV scale. We find extensive regions of the parameter space which are ruled out, even at low tan(beta). The implications of these results on the g-2 of the muon are also analyzed.
It is often the case that the naive introduction of the messenger sector to supersymmetry breaking models causes restoration of supersymmetry. We discuss a possibility of stabilizing the supersymmetry breaking vacuum by gravitational interaction.
We argue that the Polonyi problem can be avoided when our supersymmetry-breaking vacuum is surrounded by many supersymmetric vacua. We construct a dynamical class of supersymmetry-breaking models to demonstrate our point. These models naturally predict a small deviation from the standard big-bang nucleosynthesis.
Anomalously small gaugino masses are a common feature of various models of direct gauge mediation. This problem is closely related to the vacuum structure of the theory. In this paper we show that massive SQCD can have SUSY-breaking vacua which are qualitatively different from the ISS vacuum. These novel vacua are metastable with respect to decay to the ISS vacuum. We demonstrate the possibility of addressing the gaugino mass problem in this framework. We study the properties of these vacua and construct an example of a model of direct gauge mediation.
Anomaly mediation solves the supersymmetric flavor and CP problems. This is because the superconformal anomaly dictates that supersymmetry breaking is transmitted through nearly flavor-blind infrared physics that is highly predictive and UV insensitive. Slepton mass squareds, however, are predicted to be negative. This can be solved by adding D-terms for U(1)_Y and U(1)_{B-L} while retaining the UV insensitivity. In this paper we consider electroweak symmetry breaking via UV insensitive anomaly mediation in several models. For the MSSM we find a stable vacuum when tanbeta < 1, but in this regi…
We revisit N_f=N_c SQCD and its non-supersymmetric minima conjectured by Intriligator, Seiberg and Shih (ISS). We argue that the existence of such minima depends on the signs of three non-calculable parameters and that no evidence can be inferred by deforming the theory. We demonstrate this by studying a deformation of the theory which involves additional gauge singlets. In this case, the conjectured minimum is destabilized. We comment on the consequences of such singlets in models of direct mediation and in particular in the Pentagon model.
We examine stabilities of our supersymmetry-breaking false vacuum in a low-energy direct gauge mediation model of SUSY breaking. The stability required in the high-temperature early universe leads to upperbounds on masses of squarks and gluino as m_\tilde{q} \lesssim 1 TeV and m_\tilde{g} \lesssim 1 TeV for the light gravitino of mass m_{3/2} \lesssim 16 eV.
We provide a gauge-mediation model of dynamical supersymmetry breaking where the gravitino mass takes a value in a wide range from 0.1 eV to 10 GeV. The lower mass region of order 100 keV or less deserves experimental and cosmological interests. The vacuum of our model is a true one without runaway instability, which may be desirable in a cosmological evolution of the universe.
We investigate O'Raifeartaigh-type models for F-term supersymmetry breaking in gauge mediation scenarios in the presence of gravity. It is pointed out that the vacuum structure of those models is such that in metastable vacua gravity mediation contribution to scalar masses is always suppressed to the level below 1 percent, almost sufficient for avoiding FCNC problem. Close to that limit, gravitino mass can be in the range 10-100 GeV, opening several interesting possibilities for gauge mediation models, including Giudice-Masiero mechanism for mu and Bmu generation. Gravity sector can include st…
We show how a sparticle spectrum characteristic of anomaly mediation can arise from a theory whose Lagrangian contains no explicit mass scale. The scale of supersymmetry breaking is governed by the gravitino mass, which is the vacuum expectation value of the F-term of the conformal compensator field, and the tachyonic slepton problem is resolved by the breaking of a U(1) gauge symmetry at a scale determined by dimensional transmutation.
Many messenger models with realistic gaugino masses are based on meta-stable vacua. In this work we study the thermal history of some of these models. Analyzing R-symmetric models, we point out that while some of the known messenger models clearly prefer the supersymmetric vacuum, there is a vast class of models where the answer depends on the initial conditions. Along with the vacuum at the origin, the high temperature thermal potential also possesses a local minimum far away from the origin. This vacuum has no analog at zero temperature. The first order phase transition from this vacuum into…
We present a general scheme for finding or creating a metastable vacuum in supersymmetric theories. By using the formalism, we show that there is a parameter region where a metastable vacuum exists in the Wess-Zumino model coupled to messenger fields. This model serves as a perturbative renormalizable model of direct gauge mediation.
A well-known signature of supersymmetry breaking scenarios with ordinary gauge mediation is a universal formula governing gaugino and sfermion masses such that their ratio is of order one. On the other hand, recently studied models with direct gauge mediation predict anomalously small ratios of gaugino to scalar masses. It was argued that the smallness of gaugino masses is a consequence of being in the lowest energy state of the SUSY-breaking low energy effective theory. To increase gaugino masses one either has to move to higher metastable vacuum or alternatively remain in the original SUSY-b…
In some string compactifications, for instance the recently proposed KKLT set-up, light moduli are stabilized by nonperturbative effects at supersymmetric AdS vacuum which is lifted to a dS vacuum by supersymmetry breaking uplifting potential. In such models, soft supersymmetry breaking terms are determined by a specific mixed modulus-anomaly mediation in which the two mediations typically give comparable contributions to soft parameters. Similar pattern of soft terms can arise also in brane models to stabilize the radion by nonperturbative effects. We examine some phenomenological consequence…
We propose a new class of models with gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking, the cascade supersymmetry breaking. This class of models is consistent with the gravitino mass as low as O(1)eV without having suppressed gaugino masses, nor the Landau pole problems of the gauge coupling constants of the Standard Model below the scale of the grand unification. In particular, there is no supersymmetric vacuum in the vicinity of the supersymmetry breaking vacuum even for such a low gravitino mass. Thus, the model does not have a vacuum stability problem decaying into supersymmetric vacua.
We construct a gauge mediation model of dynamical supersymmetry breaking (DSB) based on a vector-like gauge theory, in which there is a unique color-preserving true vacuum. The DSB scale $Λ/4π$ turns out to be as high as $Λ/4π\simeq 10^{8-9} GeV$, since the transmission of the DSB effects to the standard model sector is completed through much higher loops. This model is perfectly natural and phenomenologically consistent. We also stress that the dangerous D-term problem for the messenger U(1)_m is automatically solved by a charge conjugation symmetry in the vector-like gauge theory.
We present a very simple model of the radius stabilization in a supersymmetric (SUSY) Randall-Sundrum model with a hypermultiplet and a boundary constant superpotential. A wide range of parameters where the anomaly mediation of SUSY breaking is dominated is found although there are many problematic bulk effects of SUSY breaking. A negative cosmological constant in the radius stabilized vacuum can be cancelled by a localized SUSY breaking. Making use of this localized SUSY breaking also solves the μ-problem by Giudice-Masiero mechanism.
We investigate minimally completed models of extraordinary gauge mediation, which are examples of direct gauge mediation, at finite temperature both analytically and numerically. These models may have both supersymmetry breaking and supersymmetric vacua. Our interest is in determining the preferred vacuum. We do so by computing the finite temperature Coleman-Weinberg potential and studying its thermal evolution.
We construct a model of direct gauge mediation of metastable SUSY breaking by simply deforming the Intriligator, Seiberg and Shih model in terms of a dual meson superpotential mass term. No extra matter field is introduced. The deformation explicitly breaks a U(1)_R symmetry and a pseudo moduli have a nonzero VEV at one-loop. Our metastable SUSY breaking vacuum turns out to be sufficiently long-lived. By gauging a subgroup of flavor symmetry, our model can directly couple to the standard model, which leads to nonvanishing gaugino mass generation. It is also shown that our model can evade the L…
One notoriously difficult problem in perturbative gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking via messenger fields is the generic presence of a phenomenologically unacceptable vacuum with messenger vevs, with a lower energy than the desired (MSSM) vacuum. We investigate the possibility that quantum corrections promote the latter to the ground state of the theory, and find that this is indeed feasible. For this to happen, the couplings of the messengers to the goldstino superfield must be small, and this implies an additional suppression of the MSSM soft terms with respect to the supersymmetry br…
We discuss the pattern of low energy sparticle spectra which appears in some class of moduli stabilization scenario. In case that light moduli are stabilized by non-perturbative effects encoded in the superpotential and a phenomenologically viable de Sitter vacuum is obtained by a sequestered supersymmetry breaking sector, the anomaly-mediated soft terms become comparable to the moduli-mediated ones, leading to a quite distinctive pattern of low energy spacticle masses dubbed the mirage mediation pattern. We also discuss low energy sparticle masses in more general mixed-mediation scenario whic…
We consider minimal models of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking with an extra $U(1)$ factor in addition to the Standard Model gauge group. A $U(1)$ charged, Standard Model singlet is assumed to be present which allows for an additional NMSSM like coupling, $λH_u H_d S$. The U(1) is assumed to be flavour universal. Anomaly cancellation in the MSSM sector requires additional coloured degrees of freedom. The $S$ field can get a large vacuum expectation value along with consistent electroweak symmetry breaking. It is shown that the lightest CP even Higgs boson can attain mass of the order of 1…
We provide a minimal solution to the mu/B_mu problem in the gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking by introducing a Standard Model singlet filed S with a mass around the messenger scale which couples to the Higgs and messenger fields. This singlet is nearly supersymmetric and acquires a relatively small Vacuum Expectation Value (VEV) from its radiatively generated tadpole term. Consequently, both mu and B_mu parameters receive the tree-level and one-loop contributions, which are comparable due to the small S VEV. Because there exists a proper cancellation in such two kinds of contributions to B…
We discuss the thermal evolution of the spurion and messenger fields of ordinary gauge mediation models taking into account the Standard Model degrees of freedom. It is shown that for thermalized messengers the metastable susy breaking vacuum becomes thermally selected provided that the susy breaking sector is sufficiently weakly coupled to messengers or to any other observable field.
We investigate supersymmetric QCD with gauge group SU(2) and a baryon deformation to the superpotential. The existence of an uplifted vacuum at the origin with tree level metastability is demonstrated. When this model is implemented in a direct gauge mediation scenario we therefore find gaugino masses which are comparable to sfermion masses and parameterised by an effective number of messengers 1/8. All deformations are well motivated by appealing to the electric theory and an R-symmetry. This R-symmetry is explicitly broken by the same term responsible for supersymmetry breaking. Moreover, th…
We present a simple general framework for realistic models of supersymmetry breaking driven by anomaly mediation. We consider a 5-dimensional "brane universe" where the visible and hidden sectors are localized on different branes, and the standard model gauge bosons propagate in the bulk. In this framework there can be charged scalar messengers that have contact interactions with the hidden sector, either localized in the hidden sector or in the bulk. These scalars obtain soft masses that feed into visible sector scalar masses at two loop order via bulk gauge interactions. This contribution is…
Supersymmetry breaking in a metastable vacuum allows one to build simple and concrete models of gauge mediation. Generation of gaugino masses requires that R-symmetry be broken in this vacuum. In general, there are two possible ways to break R-symmetry, explicitly or spontaneously. We find that the MSSM phenomenology depends crucially on how this breaking occurs in the Hidden Sector. Explicit R-symmetry breaking models can lead to fairly standard gauge mediation, but we argue that in the context of ISS-type models this only makes sense if B=0 at the mediation scale, which leads to high tan(bet…
We systematically study supersymmetry breaking with non-vanishing F and D terms. We classify the models into two categories and find that a certain class of models necessarily has runaway behavior of scalar potential, while the other needs the Fayet-Iliopoulos term to break supersymmetry. The latter class is useful to have a simple model of gauge mediation where the vacuum is stable everywhere and the gaugino mass is generated at the one-loop order.
We argue that fields responsible for inflation and supersymmetry breaking are connected by gravitational couplings. In view of the recent progress in studying supersymmetry breaking in a metastable vacuum, we have shown that in models of supersymmetric hybrid inflation, where R-symmetry plays an important role, the scale of supersymmetry breaking is generated dynamically at the end of inflation and turns out to be consistent with gravity mediation.
Stringent experimental constraints have raised the lower limit on the masses of squarks to TeV levels, while compatibility with the mass of the Higgs boson provides an upper limit. This two-sided bound has lead to the emergence of Mini-Split theories where gauginos are not far removed from the electroweak scale while scalars are somewhat heavier. This small hierarchy modifies the spectrum of standard anomaly and gauge mediation, leading to Mini-Split deflected anomaly and gauge mediation models. In this paper, we study LHC constraints on these models and their prospects at LHC 14 and a 100 TeV…
We propose a simple high-scale inflationary scenario based on a phenomenologically viable model with direct gauge mediation of low-scale supersymmetry breaking. Hybrid inflation is occurred in a hidden supersymmetry breaking sector. Two hierarchical mass scales to reconcile both high-scale inflation and gauge mediation are necessary for the stability of the metastable supersymmetry breaking vacuum. Our scenario is also natural in light of the Landau pole problem of direct gauge mediation.
Low-scale gauge-mediated supersymmetry(SUSY)-breaking (GMSB) models with gravitino mass m_{3/2}<16 eV are attractive, since there are no flavor and cosmological problems. In this paper, we thoroughly study the collider signal in the case that the next-to-lightest SUSY particle is the bino or slepton and investigate the discovery potential of the LHC. Our result is applicable to a wider class of GMSB models other than the minimal GMSB models and we pay particular attention to realistic experimental setups. We also apply our analysis to the minimal GMSB models with a metastable SUSY-breaking vac…
We discuss the mediation of supersymmetry breaking from closed to open strings, extending and improving previous analysis of the authors in Nucl. Phys. B 695 (2004) 103 [hep-th/0403293]. In the general case, we find the absence of anomaly mediation around any perturbative string vacuum. When supersymmetry is broken by Scherk-Schwarz boundary conditions along a compactification interval perpendicular to a stack of D-branes, the gaugino acquires a mass at two loops that behaves as $m_{1/2}\sim g^4 m_{3/2}^3$ in string units, where $m_{3/2}$ is the gravitino mass and $g$ is the gauge coupling.
Generating gaugino masses at the leading order has typically been difficult in direct/semi-direct gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models. The Komargodski-Shih theorem has established that local stability of the supersymmetry breaking vacuum implies a vanishing leading order gaugino mass in generic renormalizable O'Raifeartaigh models. We relax the condition of renormalizability and investigate the possibility to evade the KS no-go theorem using higher dimensional operators in the Kahler potential and the superpotential. We demonstrate that higher dimensional terms which are polynomial in…
We investigate the phenomenology of the Nearly Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (nMSSM) in the deflected anomaly mediation scenario. We also include the Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term of the standard model gauge group. In the nMSSM, the mu term is replaced by the vacuum expectation value of the gauge singlet; therefore, there is no difficulty in generating the B-term of the SUSY breaking scale. Although the messenger sector is introduced, direct couplings between nMSSM fields and messenger sector fields are forbidden by the discrete symmetry. Therefore, the phenomenology at the weak scale does n…
We analyze an R-symmetry breaking deformation of the ISS model for a direct mediation of supersymmetry breaking from a metastable vacuum. The model is weakly coupled and calculable. The LSP gravitino is light (m_{3/2}<16 eV) and the MSSM spectrum is natural with a light Higgs. The supersymmetry breaking sector, which is usually hidden, is observable (m~1 TeV) and may be a candidate for cold dark matter. We discuss its production and signature at LHC. We propose a UV completion of the model in terms of a duality cascade.
We investigate, in the general framework of KKLT, the mediation of supersymmetry breaking by fields propagating in the strongly warped region of the compactification manifold ('throat fields'). Such fields can couple both to the supersymmetry breaking sector at the IR end of the throat and to the visible sector at the UV end. We model the supersymmetry breaking sector by a chiral superfield which develops an F-term vacuum expectation value. It turns out that the mediation effect of vector multiplets propagating in the throat can compete with modulus-anomaly mediation. Moreover, such vector fie…
We consider a supersymmetric completion of codimension-two branes with nonzero tension in a 6D gauged supergravity. As a consequence, we obtain the football solution with 4D Minkowski space as a new supersymmetric background that preserves 4D N=1 SUSY. In the presence of brane multiplets, we derive the 4D effective supergravity action for the football background and show that the remaining modulus can be stabilized by a bulk non-perturbative correction with brane uplifting potentials at a zero vacuum energy. We find that the U(1)_R mediation can be a dominant source of SUSY breaking for a bran…
We propose Singlet Stabilized Minimal Gauge Mediation as a simple ISS-based model of Direct Gauge Mediation which avoids both light gauginos and Landau poles. The hidden sector is a massive s-confining SQCD that is distinguished by a minimal SU(5) flavor group. The uplifted vacuum is stabilized by coupling the meson to an additional singlet sector with its own U(1) gauge symmetry via non-renormalizable interactions suppressed by a higher scale Lambda_UV in the electric theory. This generates a nonzero VEV for the singlet meson via the inverted hierarchy mechanism, but requires tuning to a prec…
The possibility that supersymmetry (SUSY) could be broken in a metastable vacuum has recently attracted renewed interest. In these proceedings we will argue that metastability is an attractive and testable scenario. The recent developments were triggered by the presentation of a simple and calculable model of metastable SUSY breaking by Intriligator, Seiberg and Shih (ISS), which we will briefly review. One of the main questions raised by metastability is, why did the universe end up in this vacuum. Using the ISS model as an example we will argue that in a large class of models the universe is…
We develop an approach to investigate the non-perturbative dynamics of quantum field theories, in which specific vacuum field fluctuations are treated as the low-energy dynamical degrees of freedom, while all other vacuum field configurations are explicitly integrated out from the path integral. We show how to compute the effective interaction between the vacuum field degrees of freedom both perturbatively (using stochastic perturbation theory) and fully non-perturbatively (using lattice field theory simulations). The present approach holds to all orders in the couplings and does not rely on t…
An often-exploited feature of the operator product expansion (OPE) is that it incorporates a splitting of ultraviolet and infrared physics. In this paper we use this feature of the OPE to perform simple, approximate computations of soft masses in gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. The approximation amounts to truncating the OPEs for hidden-sector current-current operator products. Our method yields visible-sector superpartner spectra in terms of vacuum expectation values of a few hidden-sector IR elementary fields. We manage to obtain reasonable approximations to soft masses, even when the…
The mechanism of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) solves the supersymmetric flavor problem although it requires superheavy stops to reproduce the experimental value (125 GeV) of the Higgs mass. A possible way out is to extend the MSSM Higgs sector with triplets which provide extra tree-level corrections to the Higgs mass. Triplets with neutral components getting vacuum expectation values (VEV) have the problem of generating a tree-level correction to the ρparameter. We introduce supersymmetric triplets with hypercharges Y=(0,\pm 1), with a tree-level custodial SU(2)_L\otimes SU(2)_…
We compute the vacuum polarization on the lattice using non-perturbatively O(a) improved Wilson fermions. The result is compared with the operator product expansion (OPE).
We study models of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking with a gauged horizontal SU(3)_F symmetry acting on the quark superfields. If SU(3)_F is broken non-supersymmetrically by F-term vacuum expectation values, the massive gauge bosons and gauginos become messengers for SUSY breaking mediation. These gauge messenger fields induce a flavour-dependent, negative contribution to the soft masses of the squarks at one loop. In combination with the soft terms from standard gauge mediation, one obtains large and degenerate first- and second-generation squark masses, while the stops and sbottoms are …
Recently Murayama and Nomura proposed a simple scheme to construct the gauge mediation models, using metastable supersymmetry breaking vacua. It has a possibility to predict the ultra light gravitino mass m_{3/2} \lesssim 16 eV, while such a light gravitino may destabilize the metastable vacua. We investigate stability of the metastable vacuum of their model. The transition rate from the false vacuum to true ones is evaluated by numerical calculation, including the Coleman-Weinberg potential destabilizing the metastable vacuum. It is found that when the messenger sector is minimal, stability o…
We explore the connection between tree-level Dirac neutrino masses and axion physics in a scenario where the PQ symmetry enforces lepton number conservation perturbatively. Requiring that the PQ scale $f_a$ is the only heavy scale to play a role in neutrino mass generation, we are led to the construction of a KSVZ-type model where Dirac neutrino masses are inversely proportional to $f_a$, provided a real scalar triplet (zero hypercharge) is added to the SM scalar sector. We analyse this extended scalar sector, focusing on the stabilisation of the electroweak vacuum. The contribution of the tri…
We present a model in which the same modulus field breaks both SUSY and a simple GUT gauge group down to the SM gauge group. The modulus is stabilized by the inverted hierarchy mechanism in a perturbative region so that the model is calculable. This is the first example of this kind in the literature. All mass scales (other than the Planck scale) are generated dynamically. In one of the models doublet-triplet splitting is achieved naturally by the sliding singlet mechanism while another model requires fine tuning. The gauge mediation contribution to the right handed slepton (mass)$^2$ is negat…
We examine the structure of soft supersymmetry breaking terms in KKLT models of flux compactification with low energy supersymmetry. Moduli are stabilized by fluxes and nonperturbative dynamics while a de Sitter vacuum is obtained by adding supersymmetry breaking anti-branes. We discuss the characteristic pattern of mass scales in such a set-up as well as some features of 4D N=1 supergravity breakdown by anti-branes. Anomaly mediation is found to always give an important contribution and one can easily arrange for flavor-independent soft terms. In its most attractive realization, the modulus m…
We examine the effects of anomalous U(1)_A gauge symmetry on soft supersymmetry breaking terms while incorporating the stabilization of the modulus-axion multiplet responsible for the Green-Schwarz (GS) anomaly cancellation mechanism. In case of the KKLT stabilization of the GS modulus, soft terms are determined by the GS modulus mediation, the anomaly mediation and the U(1)_A mediation which are generically comparable to each other, thereby yielding the mirage mediation pattern of superparticle masses at low energy scale. Independently of the mechanism of moduli stabilization and supersymmetr…
We consider the dynamics of the supersymmetry-breaking scalar field and the production of dark matter gravitinos via its decay in a gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking model with metastable vacuum. We find that the scalar field amplitude and gravitino density are extremely sensitive to the parameters of the hidden sector. For the case of an O'Raifeartaigh sector, we show that the observed dark matter density can be explained by gravitinos even for low reheating temperatures T_{R} < 10 GeV. Such low reheating temperatures may be implied by detection of the NLSP at the LHC if its thermal freez…
We show that supersymmetry and R-symmetry can be dynamically broken in a long-lived metastable vacuum of SQCD with massive and massless flavors. The vacuum results from a competition of a (leading) two-loop effect and small "Planck" suppressed higher-dimension operators. This mechanism provides a particularly simple realization of dynamical SUSY and R-symmetry breaking, and as such it is a good starting point for building phenomenologically viable models of gauge mediation. We take a preliminary step in this direction by constructing a complete model of minimal gauge mediation. Here we find th…
We work out the phenomenology of a model of supersymmetry breaking in the presence of a tiny (tunable) positive cosmological constant, proposed by the authors in arXiv:1403.1534. It utilises a single chiral multiplet with a gauged shift symmetry, that can be identified with the string dilaton (or an appropriate compactification modulus). The model is coupled to the MSSM, leading to calculable soft supersymmetry breaking masses and a distinct low energy phenomenology that allows to differentiate it from other models of supersymmetry breaking and mediation mechanisms.
We argue that supersymmetric flat direction vacuum expectation values can decay non-perturbatively via preheating. Considering a toy U(1) gauge theory, we explicitly calculate the scalar potential, in the unitary gauge, for excitations around several flat directions. We show that the mass matrix for the excitations has non-diagonal entries which vary with the phase of the flat direction vacuum expectation value. Furthermore, this mass matrix has zero eigenvalues whose eigenstates change with time. We show that these light degrees of freedom are produced copiously in the non-perturbative decay …
