Collective Quartics from Simple Groups

This article classifies Little Higgs models that have collective quartic couplings. There are two classes of collective quartics: Special Cosets and Special Quartics. After taking into account dangerous singlets, the smallest Special Coset models are SU(5)/SO(5) and SU(6)/Sp(6). The smallest Special Quartic model is SU(5)/SU(3) x SU(2) x U(1) and has not previously been considered as a candidate Little Higgs model.

Collective Quartics and Dangerous Singlets in Little Higgs

Any extension of the standard model that aims to describe TeV-scale physics without fine-tuning must have a radiatively-stable Higgs potential. In little Higgs theories, radiative stability is achieved through so-called collective symmetry breaking. In this letter, we focus on the necessary conditions for a little Higgs to have a collective Higgs quartic coupling. In one-Higgs doublet models, a collective quartic requires an electroweak triplet scalar. In two-Higgs doublet models, a collective quartic requires a triplet or singlet scalar. Generating a Higgs Quartic

We present a simple mechanism for generating a Higgs quartic in composite Higgs models without a corresponding quadratic term. The extra quartic will originate from a Higgs dependent kinetic mixing between additional fermionic states. The mechanism can be naturally embedded to models with maximal symmetry as well as Twin Higgs models. The resulting Twin Higgs models will have a fully natural realistic Higgs potential, where the quartic mechanism will serve as the only source for the $Z_2$ breaking, while the top and gauge sectors can remain exactly $Z_2$ invariant.

Matching renormalisable couplings: simple schemes and a plot

We discuss different choices that can be made when matching a general high-energy theory -- with the restriction that it should not contain heavy gauge bosons -- onto a general renormalisable effective field theory at one loop, with particular attention to the quartic scalar couplings and Yukawa couplings. This includes a generalisation of the counterterm scheme that was found to be useful in the case of high-scale/split supersymmetry, but we show the important differences when there are new heavy scalar fields in singlet or triplet representations of $SU(2)$. Consistency of the dynamical high-scale type-I seesaw mechanism

We analyze the consistency of electroweak breaking within the simplest high-scale Standard Model type-I seesaw mechanism. We derive the full two-loop RGEs of the relevant parameters, including the quartic Higgs self-coupling of the Standard Model. For the simplest case of bare "right-handed" neutrino mass terms we find that, with large Yukawa couplings, the Higgs quartic self-coupling becomes negative much below the seesaw scale, so that the model may be inconsistent even as an effective theory. Induced Electroweak Symmetry Breaking and Supersymmetric Naturalness

In this paper we study a new class of supersymmetric models that can explain a 125 GeV Higgs without fine-tuning. These models contain additional `auxiliary Higgs' fields with large tree-level quartic interaction terms but no Yukawa couplings. These have electroweak-breaking vacuum expectation values, and contribute to the VEVs of the MSSM Higgs fields either through an induced quartic or through an induced tadpole. Measuring the quartic Higgs self-coupling at a multi-TeV muon collider

Measuring the shape of the Higgs boson potential is of paramount importance and will be a challenging task at current as well as future colliders. The Observational Status of Simple Inflationary Models: an Update

We provide an update on five relatively well motivated inflationary models in which the inflaton is a Standard Model singlet scalar field.
