An open U_q(sl_2)-invariant spin chain of spin S and length N with inhomogeneous coupling is investigated as an example of a non-Hermitian (quasi-Hermitian) model. For several particular cases of such a chain, the ranges of the deformation parameter gamma are determined for which the spectrum of the model is real. For a certain range of gamma, a universal metric operator is constructed and thus the quasi-Hermiticity of the model is established. The constructed metric operator is non-dynamical, its structure is determined only by the symmetry of the model. The results apply, in particular, to all known homogeneous U_q(sl_2)-invariant integrable spin chains with nearest-neighbour interaction. In addition, the most general form of a metric operator for a quasi-Hermitian operator in finite dimensional space is discussed.
We show how, given a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian $H$, we can generate new non-Hermitian operators sequentially, producing a virtually infinite chain of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians which are isospectral to $H$ and $H^\dagger$ and whose eigenvectors we can easily deduce in an almost automatic way; no ingredients are necessary other than $H$ and its eigensystem. To set off the chain and keep it running, we use, for the first time in our knowledge, a series of maps all connected to different metric operators. We show how the procedure works in several physically relevant systems. In particular, we ap…
We investigate a lattice version of the Yang-Lee model which is characterized by a non-Hermitian quantum spin chain Hamiltonian. We propose a new way to implement PT-symmetry on the lattice, which serves to guarantee the reality of the spectrum in certain regions of values of the coupling constants. In that region of unbroken PT-symmetry we construct a Dyson map, a metric operator and find the Hermitian counterpart of the Hamiltonian for small values of the number of sites, both exactly and perturbatively. Besides the standard perturbation theory about the Hermitian part of the Hamiltonian, we…
An inhomogeneous T-Q equation has recently been proposed by Cao, Yang, Shi and Wang for the open spin-1/2 XXX chain with general (nondiagonal) boundary terms. We argue that a simplified version of this equation describes all the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix of this model. We also propose a generating function for the inhomogeneous T-Q equations of arbitrary spin.
The XX spin-chain with non-Hermitian diagonal boundary conditions is shown to be quasi-Hermitian for special values of the boundary parameters. This is proved by explicit construction of a new inner product employing a "quasi-fermion" algebra in momentum space where creation and annihilation operators are not related via Hermitian conjugation. For a special example, when the boundary fields lie on the imaginary axis, we show the spectral equivalence of the quasi-Hermitian XX spin-chain with a non-local fermion model, where long range hopping of the particles occurs as the non-Hermitian boundar…
A non-Hermitian quantum optimization algorithm is created and used to find the ground state of an antiferromagnetic Ising chain. We demonstrate analytically and numerically (for up to N=1024 spins) that our approach leads to a significant reduction of the annealing time that is proportional to $\ln N$, which is much less than the time (proportional to $N^2$) required for the quantum annealing based on the corresponding Hermitian algorithm. We propose to use this approach to achieve similar speed-up for NP-complete problems by using classical computers in combination with quantum algorithms.
We consider an one-dimensional inhomogeneous harmonic chain consisting of two different semi-infinite chains of harmonic oscillators. We study the Cauchy problem with random initial data. Under some restrictions on the interaction between the oscillators of the chain and on the distribution of the initial data, we prove the convergence of space-time statistical solutions to a Gaussian measure.
We present an expression for the generating function of correlation functions of the sine-Gordon integrable field theory on a cylinder, with compact space. This is derived from the Destri-De Vega integrable lattice regularization of the theory, formulated as an inhomogeneous Heisenberg XXZ spin chain, and from more recent advances in the computations of spin form factors in the thermodynamic limit.
We construct an explicit matrix product ansatz for the steady state of a boundary driven $XY\!Z$ spin-$\tfrac{1}{2}$ chain for arbitrary local polarizing channels at the chain's ends. The ansatz, where the Lax operators are written explicitly in terms of infinite-dimensional bidiagonal (triangular) site-dependent matrices, becomes exact either in the (Zeno) limit of infinite dissipation strength, or thermodynamic limit of infinite chain length. The solution is based on an extension of the newly discovered family of separable eigenstates of the model.
We introduce and study time-inhomogeneous quantum Markov chains with parameter $ζ\ge 0$ and decoherence parameter $0 \leq p \leq 1$ on finite spaces and their large scale equilibrium properties. Here $ζ$ resembles the inverse temperature in the annealing random process and $p$ is the decoherence strength of the quantum system. Numerical evaluations show that if $ ζ$ is small, then quantum Markov chain is ergodic for all $0 < p \le 1$ and if $ ζ$ is large, then it has multiple limiting distributions for all $0 < p \le 1$. In this paper, we prove the ergodic property in the high temperature regi…
When a chain of superconducting qubits couples to a coplanar resonator in a cavity, each of its N qubits (equally-spaced with distance l) experiences a different dipole-field coupling strength due to the waveform of the cavity field. We find that this inhomogeneous coupling leads to a pair of l-dependent ladder operators for the angular momentum of the spin chain. Varying the qubit spacing l changes the transition amplitudes between the angular momentum levels. We derive an exact diagonalization of the general N-qubit Hamiltonian and, through the N=4 case, demonstrate how the l-dependent opera…
With the XXZ spin chains as examples, we prove two theorems: (1) the functional relations derived from the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz scheme are the sufficient and necessary conditions to characterize the complete spectrum of the corresponding transfer matrix; (2) each eigenvalue of the transfer matrix can be parameterized by a minimal inhomogeneous T-Q relation. These statements hold for both with and without inhomogeneity. The proof can be generalized to other finite-dimensional quantum integrable models.
Following the approach of [Alexandrov A., Kazakov V., Leurent S., Tsuboi Z., Zabrodin A., J. High Energy Phys. 2013 (2013), no. 9, 064, 65 pages, arXiv:1112.3310], we show how to construct the master T-operator for the quantum inhomogeneous GL(N) XXX spin chain with twisted boundary conditions. It satisfies the bilinear identity and Hirota equations for the classical mKP hierarchy. We also characterize the class of solutions to the mKP hierarchy that correspond to eigenvalues of the master T-operator and study dynamics of their zeros as functions of the spectral parameter. This implies a remar…
In this work, we use the Hamiltonian of a modified Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya model and investigate the perfect transfer of the quantum state on the spin networks. In this paper, we calculate fidelity in which fidelity depends on magnetic field and another parameters. Then, by using the numerical analysis we show that the fidelity of the transferred state is determined by magnetic field $B$, exchange coupling $J$ and the Dzyaloshinskii- Moriya interaction $D$. We also found that the perfect transfer of the quantum state is possible with condition $B \gg Γ^2ω^{N/2}$ where $Γ=((J+iD)/2)$ and $ω=Γ^*/ …

A generalized inhomogeneous higher-order nonlinear Schrodinger (GIHNLS) equation for the Heisenberg ferromagnetic spin chain system in (1+1)-dimensions under zero boundary condition at infinity is taken into account. The spectral analysis is first performed to generate a related matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem on the real axis. Then, through solving the resulting matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem by taking the jump matrix to be the identity matrix, the general bright multi-soliton solutions to the GIHNLS equation are attained. Furthermore, the one- and two-soliton solutions are written out and ana…
We establish a direct connection between inhomogeneous XX spin chains (or free fermion systems with nearest-neighbors hopping) and certain QES models on the line giving rise to a family of weakly orthogonal polynomials. We classify all such models and their associated XX chains, which include two families related to the Lamé (finite gap) quantum potential on the line. For one of these chains, we numerically compute the Rényi bipartite entanglement entropy at half filling and derive an asymptotic approximation thereof by studying the model's continuous limit, which turns out to describe a massl…
A new method of diagonalisation of the XY-Hamiltonian of inhomogeneous open linear chains with periodic (in space) changing Larmor frequencies and coupling constants is developed. As an example of application, multiple quantum dynamics of an inhomogeneous chain consisting of 1001 spins is investigated. Intensities of multiple quantum coherences are calculated for arbitrary inhomogeneous chains in the approximation of the next nearest interactions. {\it Key words:} linear spin chain, nearest--neighbour approximation, three--diagonal matrices, diagonalisation, fermions, multiple--quantum NMR, mu…
We find novel site-dependent Lax operators in terms of which we demonstrate exact solvability of a dissipatively driven XYZ spin-1/2 chain in the Zeno limit of strong dissipation, with jump operators polarizing the boundary spins in arbitrary directions. We write the corresponding nonequilibrium steady state using an inhomogeneous MPA, where the constituent matrices satisfy a simple set of linear recurrence relations. Although these matrices can be embedded into an infinite-dimensional auxiliary space, we have verified that they cannot be simultaneously put into a tridiagonal form, not even in…
Through the Hasimoto map, various dynamical systems can be mapped to different integrodifferential generalizations of Nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) family of equations some of which are known to be integrable. Two such continuum limits, corresponding to the inhomogeneous XXX Heisenberg spin chain [Balakrishnan, J. Phys. C 15, L1305 (1982)] and that of a thin vortex filament moving in a superfluid with drag [Shivamoggi, Eur. Phys. J. B 86, 275 (2013) 86; Van Gorder, Phys. Rev. E 91, 053201 (2015)], are shown to be particular non-holonomic deformations (NHDs) of the standard NLS system involving g…
This is a continuation of a previous joint work with Robert Weston on the quantum group invariant XXZ spin-chain (math-ph/0703085). The previous results on quasi-Hermiticity of this integrable model are briefly reviewed and then connected with a new construction of an inner product with respect to which the Hamiltonian and the representation of the Temperley-Lieb algebra become Hermitian. The approach is purely algebraic, one starts with the definition of a positive functional over the Temperley-Lieb algebra whose values can be computed graphically. Employing the Gel'fand-Naimark-Segal (GNS) c…
We consider the non-equilibrium physics induced by joining together two tight binding fermionic chains to form a single chain. Before being joined, each chain is in a many-fermion ground state. The fillings (densities) in the two chains might be the same or different. We present a number of exact results for the correlation functions in the non-interacting case. We present a short-time expansion, which can sometimes be fully resummed, and which reproduces the so-called `light cone' effect or wavefront behavior of the correlators. For large times, we show how all interesting physical regimes ma…
