Finding all the mutually unbiased bases in various dimensions is a problem of fundamental interest in quantum information theory and pure mathematics. The general problem formulated in finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces is open. In the categorical approach to quantum mechanics one can find examples of categories which behave ``like'' the category of finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces in various ways but are subtly different. One such category is the category of sets and relations, $\mathbf{Rel}$. One can formulate the concept of mutually unbiased bases here as well. In this note we classify all the mutually unbiased bases in this category by relating it to a standard question in combinatorics.
Classifying states as entangled or separable is a highly challenging task, while it is also one of the foundations of quantum information processing theory. This task is higly nontrivial even for relatively simple cases, such as two-qutrit Bell-diagonal states, i.e., mixture of nine mutually orthogonal maximally entangled states. In this article we apply the Gilbert algorithm to revise previously obtained results for this class. In particular we use ``cartography of entanglement'' to argue that most states left in [Hiesmayr, B. C. {\em Scientific Reports} {\bf 11}, 19739 (2021)] as unknown to …
One of the most important and useful entropic uncertainty relations concerns a $d$ dimensional system and two mutually unbiased measurements. In such a setting, the sum of two information entropies is lower bounded by $\ln d$. It has recently been shown that projective measurements subject to operational mutual unbiasedness can also be constructed in a continuous domain, with the help of periodic coarse graining. Here we consider the whole family of Rényi entropies applied to these discretized observables and prove that such a scheme does also admit the uncertainty relation mentioned above.

We begin by defining mutually unbiased (MU) observables on a finite dimensional Hilbert space. We also consider the more general concept of parts of MU observables. The relationships between MU observables, value-complementary observables and two other conditions involving sequential products of observables are discussed. We next present a special motivating case of MU observables called finite position and momentum observables. These are atomic observables related by a finite Fourier transform. Finite position and momentum observables are employed to give examples of parts of MU observables t…
Solution to the Mean King's problem with mutually unbiased bases for arbitrary levels
本文重新考虑了任意d-水平系统的互无偏基的平均王问题。Hayashi,Horibe和Hashimoto [Phys. Rev.
Mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) and symmetric informationally complete projectors (SICs) are crucial to many conceptual and practical aspects of quantum theory. Here, we develop their role in quantum nonlocality by: i) introducing families of Bell inequalities that are maximally violated by $d$-dimensional MUBs and SICs respectively, ii) proving device-independent certification of natural operational notions of MUBs and SICs, and iii) using MUBs and SICs to develop optimal-rate and nearly optimal-rate protocols for device independent quantum key distribution and device-independent quantum rando…
Goyeneche et al.\ [Phys.\ Rev.\ A \textbf{97}, 062326 (2018)] introduced several classes of quantum combinatorial designs, namely quantum Latin squares, quantum Latin cubes, and the notion of orthogonality on them. They also showed that mutually orthogonal quantum Latin arrangements can be entangled in the same way in which quantum states are entangled. Moreover, they established a relationship between quantum combinatorial designs and a remarkable class of entangled states called $k$-uniform states, i.e., multipartite pure states such that every reduction to $k$ parties is maximally mixed. In…
We construct a topological space to study contextuality in quantum mechanics. The resulting space is a classifying space in the sense of algebraic topology. Cohomological invariants of our space correspond to physical quantities relevant to the study of contextuality. Within this framework the Wigner function of a quantum state can be interpreted as a class in the twisted $K$-theory of the classifying space.
