In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with complex parameters, one-loop corrections to the decay of a stop into a bottom-quark and a chargino can lead to a CP violating decay rate asymmetry. We perform a detailed numerical analysis of this asymmetry and also of the branching ratio of the decay, analyzing the dependence on the parameters and complex phases involved. In addition, we take the Yukawa couplings of the top- and bottom-quark running. We account for the constraints on the parameters coming from the experimental limit of the electric dipole moment of the electron by calculating and thus checking it automatically along the way. We obtain as results that the asymmetry rises up to 24 percent, depending on the point in parameter space. The combined quantity asymmetry times branching ratio reaches up to 3.5 percent. We also comment on the feasibility of measuring this asymmetry at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. It will be possible to measure our decay rate asymmetry at LHC.
$CP$-violating asymmetries calculated from the Breit-Wigner approximation for unstable particle propagators violate $CPT$. A formalism satisfying $CP$ invariance and unitarity is presented. Applications are given to $t$ decays. For the decay $t\to bν_τ\barτ$ in a class of $CP$-violating models the $CP$-violating asymmetry turns out to be $10^{-4}$ times smaller than the previously reported results.
Parity-violating asymmetries in polarized electron scattering have been interpreted as the asymmetries between opposite helicities of incoming fermion based on the approximation of the spin polarization operator. Here exact calculations of cross sections for parity-violating asymmetries in SLAC E158 and SLD have been performed using spin projection operators. And the parity-violating factor incorporating with spin polarization and momentum has been identified and shown that its sign depends on the spin polarization of incoming particle and the relative velocity of incoming and target particles…
If the Standard Model explanation of CP violation is correct, then measurements of CP-violating asymmetries in $B$ meson decays can in principle determine the entire quark mixing matrix.
We study the forward-backward and the CP-violating asymmetries (both time-independent and time-dependent) in rare semileptonic and radiative leptonic B_{d,s}-decays and investigate the sensitivity of these asymmetries to the extensions of the Standard model.
We report on a calculation of one-loop weak corrections to polarized quark-gluon scattering and the corresponding crossed channels. Such contributions are suppressed formally by one power of alpha_s relative to W- or Z-mediated quark-quark scattering, but would enable the spin asymmetry of the gluon distribution to contribute to parity-violating asymmetries that will soon be investigated in polarized proton-proton scattering experiments at RHIC. In certain kinematic regions, gluon contributions to parity-violating asymmetries can be as large as 10% of the tree-level W- and Z-exchanges in quark…
Parity violating left-right scattering asymmetries at future high energy e+e- and e-e- colliders are examined. The utility of two polarized beams for precision measurements is pointed out. Sensitivity to ``new'' short-distance physics is briefly discussed. Electroweak radiative corrections due to the running of sin^2(theta_W)(q^2) are exhibited.
We update the CP-violating asymmetries in K^+ -> 3 pi. In particular we study Delta g_C and Delta g_N -the asymmetries in the slope g. We emphasize its complementarity to the direct CP-violation parameter epsilon_K' and the large sensitivity to the size of the imaginary part of the octet coupling Im G_8 at lowest order in CHPT. We also give the prospects of a full calculation at next-to-leading order of this and other CP-violating asymmetries which will be presented elsewhere.
The non-leptonic two body decays of D mesons are studied in the framework of an improved factorization approximation. The final state interaction effects are taken into account assuming them dominated by nearby resonances. The agreement with experimental data is quite good. CP-violating asymmetries are predicted.
We study the forward-backward and the CP-violating asymmetries (both time-independent and time-dependent) in rare semileptonic $B_d\toρ^0 l^+l^-$, $B_s\toϕl^+l^-$, and radiative leptonic $B_{d,s}\to γl^+l^-$ decays and investigate the sensitivity of these asymmetries to the extensions of the Standard model.
The CP violating asymmetries for Cabibbo suppressed charged D meson decays in the standard model are estimated in the factorized approximation, using the two-loop effective hamiltonian and a model for final state interactions previously tested for Cabibbo allowed D decays. No new parameters are added. The predictions are larger than expected and not too far from the experimental possibilities.
We present an analysis of the enhancement of CP-violating charge asymmetries in $K \rightarrow 3π$ decays. Calculations of decay amplitudes are performed on the basis of bosonized strong and weak Lagrangians derived from QCD-motivated quark Lagrangians. We show that the interplay of fourth-order contributions of chiral Lagrangians for strong interactions and penguin operators in weak interactions significantly enhances the charge asymmetries.
We present the next-to-leading order full results in Chiral Perturbation Theory for the charged Kaon K --> 3 pi slope g CP violating asymmetries. We discuss the constraints that a measurement of these asymmetries would impose on the Standard Model results of epsilon_K' and search for new physics. We also study the kind of information that such measurement can provide on Im G_8, Im (e^2 G_E) and higher order weak couplings.
We present a general model-independent formalism of measuring CP and CPT violating parameters through time-ordered integrated rates of correlated decays of $C=\pm 1$ entangled states of neutral pseudoscalar mesons. We give the general formulae of CP and CPT violating parameters in terms of four measurable asymmetries defined for the time-ordered integrated rates, applicable to all kinds of decay product. Two special cases which are often realized in experiments are discussed specifically.
CP violating effects in the single top quark production via flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) reactions $e^+e^- ->t bar{q}$ and $e^+e^- ->bar{t}q$ (here $q$ refers to charm and up quarks) are studied. The effective Lagrangian description of the FCNC interactions is used. A numerical analysis is performed for some next linear colliders. CP violating asymmetries for the number of $q$ and $\bar{q}$ quarks are obtained to be of order $10^{-2}-10^{-3}$ depending on the CM energy.
Lepton charge asymmetries can be used as an alternative means of searching for new physics. They are interesting because they are small in the Standard Model and therefore, necessarily evidence new physics. In this work we explore the use of lepton asymmetries as a probe of the flavour structure of the left-right symmetric model with spontaneous CP violation. We find that new physics may enhance the magnitude of $a_{SL}$ up to the precent level within the appropiate parameter space.
We use the precision electroweak data at LEP to place bounds on $B$-violating Yukawa couplings, two theoretically appealing examples being provided by $R$-parity--violating supersymmetry and diquarks. The couplings involving the third generation quarks are most severely constrained. These bounds are complementary to those obtained from low-energy processes.
We compute the CP violating decay asymmetries relevant for baryogenesis scenarios involving the out of equilibrium decays of heavy particles, including the finite temperature effects arising from the background of light thermal particles which are present during the decay epoch. Thermal effects can modify the size of CP violation by a sizeable fraction in the decay of scalar particles, but we find interesting cancellations in the thermal corrections affecting the asymmetries in the decays of fermions, as well as in the decay of scalars in supersymmetric theories. We also estimate the effects w…
We present the two-loop $β$-functions for non-standard soft supersymmetry-breaking couplings including non-standard R-parity violating soft terms in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model
Analytic expressions for the angular distributions of the $b$-quarks associated with single $t$-quark production in $p \bar p \to W^* \to t \bar b \to b \bar b W$ and of the leptons from the subsequent decay $W \to lν$ are obtained in the laboratory system. CP violation in the $t$-production vertex is assumed. Different angular and total cross section CP violating asymmetries are considered. Relations testing CP violation solely in the $t$-decay vertex are also obtained. A numerical analysis is performed in the MSSM with a CP violating phase of the trilinear coupling $A_{\tilde t}$. The asymme…
A detailed analysis of the effects of supersymmetric models without R-parity on various CP asymmetries in neutral $B$ decays is given. We concentrate on models with Abelian horizontal symmetries that allow us to estimate the order of magnitude of the new effects. We focus on channels where the Standard Model gives clean predictions: $ B_{d}\toψK_{S} $ and $B_{d}\toϕK_{S}$. The two asymmetries can have a value different from $\sin2β.$ Moreover, they can be different from each other.
The polarization asymmetries of $t$, $\bar t$ quarks can be used in the reaction $e^+e^-\to t\bar tν_e\barν_e$ to measure the Higgs width, in the Standard Model or in its extensions, and to search for non-standard CP violating phases. As an application of the CPT theorem the Higgs width is monitored through a CP-even, $T_N$-odd, polarization asymmetry, $B_y$. CP violation manifests through interference at tree graph level with the resonant Higgs amplitude. Consequently, the asymmetries are all quite sizable and can be in the range of 10--50\% for a wide choice of the Higgs mass.
We investigate the possible role that baryon number violating Yukawa interactions may take in the inclusive decay $ B \to X_s γ$. The constraints, derived using the experimental results of the CLEO collaboration, turn out, in many cases, to be more stringent than the existing bounds.
We study Lambda_b --> Lambda pi pi. The branching fraction is predicted to be about 4.38 x 10^{-6}%. Within the standard model, we compute T-odd triple product asymmetries to be about 1.4, 4.3, 6.5 and 7.2% respectively due to s_{Lambda_b}(s_Lambda) . (p_Lambda x p_pi) and p_Lambda (p_pi) . (s_Lambda x s_{Lambda_b}).
We study loop-induced parity violating asymmetries in the strong production of polarized top quark pairs at $pp$ and $p \bar p$ colliders. The electroweak ${\cal O}(α)$ corrections to the helicity amplitudes of $q \bar q \to t \bar t$ and $gg \to t \bar t$ are evaluated in a two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) and the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). While observables in top quark pair production receive little contribution from standard electroweak interactions, it is possible that they can be significantly enhanced in a 2HDM and the MSSM. We find that the one-loop MSSM electroweak co…
We obtain analytical formulae for the cross section and the angular distributions of the b(bbar) quarks in the process e+e- -> t tbar, with t -> W+ b (tbar -> W- bbar) assuming CP violation in the γt tbar and Z t tbar vertices. We present CP violating asymmetries, which measure separately the real and imaginary parts of the electroweak dipole moment form factors of the top, d^γ(s) and d^{Z}(s). We give a numerical analysis of these asymmetries within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters. They turn out to be of order <= 10^{-3}.
CP-violating asymmetries due to a possible electric dipole interaction of the top quark in the production and subsequent decay of top quark-top antiquark pair in photon-photon collisions are studied. The asymmetries defined can be used to determine the imaginary part of the electric dipole form factors. A gamma-gamma collider with photon beams generated from laser back-scattering off electron beams with an integrated geometric luminosity of 20 fb^{-1} can put a limit of the order of 10^{-17} e cm on the imaginary part of the electric dipole form factor of the top quark if the electron beams ha…
Yukawa-like R-parity violating (RPV) couplings are generated as effective operators with a typical strength of ${\cal O}(10^{-3})$ through loops involving the scalars, the gauginos and the soft supersymmetry breaking RPV interactions. Neutrino masses and other phenomenological implications of such a scenario are discussed.
CP-violating asymmetries in the decay $B^0(t)\to π^+ π^-$ are a potentially rich source of information about both strong and weak phases. In a previous treatment by the present authors use was made of an assumption about the relative magnitude of tree and penguin amplitudes contributing to this process. This assumption involved an ambiguity in relating the tree amplitude to the amplitude for $B \to π\ell ν$. It is shown here that one can avoid this assumption, which adopted a particular convention for tree and penguin amplitudes, and that the results are convention-independent.
We summarized our report on leptonic flavor violating Higgs decay into mu + tau under the scheme of a generic supersymmetric standard model without R parity. With known experimental constraints imposed, important combinations of R-parity violating parameters which can give notable branching ratios are listed.
We study two simple $CP$-violating asymmetries of leptons coming from the decay of $t$ and $øt$ in $e^+e^- \ra \tt$, which do not need the full reconstruction of the $t$ or $øt$ for their measurement. They can arise when the top quark possesses nonzero electric and weak dipole form factors in the couplings to the photon and $Z$, respectively. Together, these two asymmetries can help to determine the electric and weak dipole form factors independently. If longitudinal beam polarization is available, independent determination of form factors can be done by measuring only one of the asymmetries. …
R-parity-violating supersymmetry (with a conserved baryon number B) provides a framework for particle physics with lepton number (L) violating interactions. We examine in detail the structure of the most general R-parity-violating (B-conserving) model of low-energy supersymmetry. We analyze the mixing of Higgs bosons with sleptons and the mixing of charginos and neutralinos with charged leptons and neutrinos, respectively. Implications for neutrino and sneutrino masses and mixing and CP-conserving sneutrino phenomena are considered. L-violating low-energy supersymmetry can be probed at future …
We consider the proton decay involving a light gravitino or axino in gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models to derive constraints on the $R$ parity and baryon number violating Yukawa couplings. Bounds on all nine coupling constants are obtained by considering the decay amplitudes at one-loop order.
We discuss the implications of the recent measurement of the $B_s-\bar{B_s}$ oscillation frequency $ΔM_s$ on the parameter space of R-parity violating supersymmetry. For completeness, we also discuss the bounds coming from leptonic, semileptonic, and nonleptonic B decay modes, and point out some possibly interesting channels at LHC.
We consider the sneutrino resonance reaction l^+ l^- -> sneutrino -> tau^+ tau^- in the MSSM without R-parity. We introduce new CP-violating and CP-conserving tau-spin asymmetries which are generated already at the tree-level if there is sneutrino - sneutrino-bar mixing and that are forbidden in the SM. It is remarkable that these spin asymmetries can reach ~75% around resonance for a sneutrino mass splitting of Δm ~ Γand ~10% for a splitting as low as Δm ~ 0.1Γ, where Γis the sneutrino width. We show that they are easily detectable already at LEP2 so long as the beam energy is within ~10 GeV …
I study the weak basis CP-violating invariants in supersymmetric models, in particular those which cannot be expressed in terms of the Jarlskog--type invariants, and find basis--independent conditions for CP conservation. With an example of the K-anti-K mixing, I clarify what are the combinations of supersymmetric parameters which are constrained by experiment.
We consider the neutrino oscillations within the minimal supersymmetric standard model with R-parity violation. The Super-Kamiokande atmospheric neutrino data are used to set limits on the bilinear R-parity violating terms. These very stringent limits are out of reach of the other experiments at present and in the near future.
The latest results from CMS on R-Parity violating Supersymmetry based on the 19.5/fb full dataset from the 8 TeV LHC run of 2012 are reviewed. The results are interpreted in the context of simplified models with multilepton and b-quark jets signatures that have low missing transverse energy arising from light top-squark pair with R-parity-violating decays of the lightest supersymmetric particle. In addition to simplified model, a new approach for phenomenological MSSM interpretation is shown which demonstrates that the obtained results from multilepton final states are valid for a wide range o…
Motivated by the recent experimental data of the E787, E949 and E865 collaborations and by the difference between the standard model (SM) prediction and data, we consider in detail R-parity violating (RPV) supersymmetric contributions to K -> pi nu nubar. The theoretical cleaness of this decay constitutes a useful way to provide constraints, independent of long distance effects. Including the possiblity of interferences between one-loop R-parity conserving (RPC) supersymmetry and tree-level RPV supersymmetric contributions, our results allow to improve the limits on R-parity violating coupling…
We discuss a model for neutrino masses and mixings based on R parity violating Yukawa couplings. The model requires no right-handed neutrinos. It accommodates the SuperKamiokande data on atmospheric neutrinos and successfully relates this data to the mass difference for solar neutrinos in the small-angle MSW solution. We obtain an unexpected testable pattern for the three neutrino flavors.
We update the single-coupling bounds on R-parity violating supersymmetry using the most up to date data as of October 2009. In addition to the data listed in the 2009 Review of Particle Properties, we utilize a new determination of the weak charge of cesium-133, and preliminary tau-decay branching fractions from Babar. Analysis of semileptonic D-decay is improved by the inclusion of experimentally measured form-factors into the calculation of the Standard Model predictions.
Three body decays can exhibit CP violation that arises from interfering diagrams with different orderings of the final state particles. We construct several momentum asymmetry observables that are accessible in a hadron collider environment where some of the final state particles are not reconstructed and not all the kinematic information can be extracted. We discuss the complications that arise from the different possible production mechanisms of the decaying particle. Examples involving heavy neutralino decays in supersymmetric theories and heavy Majorana neutrino decays in Type-I seesaw mod…
We study possible effects of supersymmetry (SUSY) in CP asymmetries in non-leptonic $B_{d,s}$ decays in a variety of SUSY flavour models considered in literature. We use both mass insertion and vertex mixing methods to calculate squark-gluino box diagrams contribution to $B_{d,s} - \bar{B}_{d,s}$ mixings. With the squark mixing parameter $η=0.22$, and with large new CP phases, it turns out that the CP asymmetries to be measured in upcoming B-factories, HERA-B and LHC-B, can be completely dominated by the SUSY contribution in almost every considered model. Discrimination between the different m…
The phenomenology and prospects for a discovery of R-parity violating Supersymmetry at HERA are analysed. Emphasis is put on the direct resonant production of squarks by electron-quark fusion and all possible subsequent decay modes of the squarks are considered. In particular, the full consequences of the mixing in the supersymmetric gaugino-higgsino sector are taken into account. A rich phenomenology emerges for HERA which offers a unique sensitivity to new R-parity violating couplings and good discriminating power against free parameters of the theory.
We consider sparticle contributions to time dependent CP asymmetry in B -> phi K_S. As for the gluino-squark loop, LR or RL insertion is more likely to give recently observed S_{phi K} < 0 than LL or RR insertion. Neutral Higgs contribution does not change S_{phi K} very much due to the strong constraint from B_s -> mu^+ mu^-. We also show correlations among related processes such as direct CP asymmetry in B -> X_s gamma and B_s - B_s bar mixing, and discuss theoretical motivations for desired strength of flavor violation.
We calculate the radiative decay amplitude for Majorana neutrinos in trilinear R-parity violating supersymmetric framework. Our results make no assumption regarding the masses and mixings of fermions and sfermions. The results obtained are exemplary for generic models with loop-generated neutrino masses. Comparison of this amplitude with the neutrino mass matrix shows that the two provide independent probes of CP-violating phases.
We study $t \bar t$ production in R-parity violating supersymmetry. The annihilation channel $q \bar q \rightarrow t \bar t$ gets new contributions from $t$-channel exchange of squarks or sleptons. With the data from Tevatron on $t \bar t$ production, we find that the squark- or slepton-exchange processes constrain the $B$-violating $λ''$ couplings or the $L$-violating $λ'$ couplings, respectively. Our bounds are already comparable to the few existing constraints on third-generation $R$-parity violating couplings, and will improve when more precise measurements of the $t \bar t$ production cro…
The distributions of the single decay b-quarks and leptons from e^+e^- \to t\bar t assuming CP violation are reviewed. Different asymmetries, sensitive independently to CP violation in the production and in the decay, and sensitive to the real and imaginary parts of d^γand d^Z are defined. The analytic expressions are general and independent on the model of CP violation. In most of them all phase space integrations are fulfilled analytically. Numerical results in the MSSM with complex couplings are presented.
We perform a comprehensive study of the impact of new-physics operators with different Lorentz structures on CP-violating observables involving the b -> s mu+ mu- transition. We examine the effects of new vector-axial vector (VA), scalar-pseudoscalar (SP) and tensor (T) interactions on the CP asymmetries in the branching ratios and forward-backward asymmetries of Bs -> mu mu, B -> Xs mu mu, Bs -> mu mu gamma, B -> K mu mu, and B -> K* mu mu. In B -> K* mu mu, we also explore the direct CP asymmetries in the longitudinal polarization fraction f_L and the angular asymmetries A_T^{(2)} and A_{LT}…
Phenomenological analysis to the R-parity violating supersymmetry with a vector-like extra generation is performed in detail. It is found that, via the trilinear couplings, the correct neutrino spectrum can be obtained. The Higgs mass rises to 125 GeV by new up-type Yukawa couplings of vector-like quarks with no need of very heavy superpartners. Phenomena of new heavy fermions at LHC are predicted.
Lepton-flavor-violating decays of the type L->l gamma gamma (mu->e gamma gamma, tau->e gamma gamma, and tau->mu gamma gamma) are proposed as new probes of R-parity-violating supersymmetry. Non-penguin diagrams with a sneutrino that decays into two photons via a triangle graph might trigger such decays even in the absence of the corresponding radiative decays into one photon only, e.g. mu->e gamma. Thus, processes of the type L->l gamma gamma may provide an independent probe of new flavor physics.
We calculated the differential cross sections of the processes in which one of the pair created tau particles at an e^+ e^- collider decays into lepton flavor violating final states e.g. tau -> mu gamma, tau -> 3 mu, tau -> mu ee. Using the correlations between angular distributions of both sides of tau decays, we can obtain information on parity and CP violations of lepton flavor non-conserving interactions. The formulae derived here are useful in distinguishing different models, since each model of physics beyond the standard model predicts different angular correlations. We also calculate a…
We obtain analytic expressions for the energy and polar-angle double differential distributions of a secondary lepton l+ (l-) arising from the decay of t (tbar) in e+e- -> t tbar with an anomalous tbW decay vertex. We also obtain analytic expressions for the various differential cross sections with the lepton energy integrated over. In this case, we find that the angular distributions of the secondary lepton do not depend on the anomalous coupling in the decay, regardless of possible anomalous couplings occurring in the production amplitude for e+e- -> t tbar. Our study includes the effect of …
Upper bounds at the weak scale are put on all $λ'_{ijk}λ'_{imn}$ type products of R-parity violating supersymmetry that may affect K-Kbar and B-Bbar mixing. We constrain all possible products, including some not considered before, using next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the mixing amplitudes. Constraints are obtained for both real and imaginary parts of the couplings. We also discuss briefly some correlated decay channels which should be investigated in future experiments.
We prove a general low-energy theorem establishing a generic relation between the neutrino Majorana mass and the superpartner sneutrino B-L-violating "Majorana"-like mass term. The theorem states that, if one of these two quantities is non-zero the other one is also non-zero and, vice versa, if one of them vanishes the other vanishes, too. The theorem is a consequence of the underlying supersymmetry (SUSY) and valid for any realistic gauge model with weak scale softly broken SUSY.
We calculate the possible CP violating asymmetries for LFV decays mu -> e gamma and tau -> mu gamma. Our predictions depend on the chosen new model independent contribution. The result of measurements of such asymmetries for these decays will open a new window to determine the physics beyond the SM.
R-parity-violating supersymmetry with a conserved baryon number B provides a framework for particle physics with lepton number (L) violating interactions. Two important probes of the L-violating physics are neutrino masses and sneutrino-antisneutrino mass-splittings. We evaluate these quantities in the context of the most general CP-conserving, R-parity-violating B-conserving extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. In generic three-generation models, three sneutrino-antisneutrino mass splittings are generated at tree-level. In contrast, only one neutrino mass is generated at tr…
We update the bounds on $R$-parity violating supersymmetry originating from meson oscillations in the $B^0_{d/s}$ and $K^0$ systems. To this end, we explicitly calculate all corresponding contributions from $R$-parity violating operators at the one-loop level, thereby completing and correcting existing calculations. We apply our results to the derivation of bounds on $R$-parity violating couplings, based on up-to-date experimental measurements. In addition, we consider the possibility of cancellations among flavor-changing contributions of various origins, e.g. from multiple $R$-parity violati…
Motivated by the recent SuperKamiokande results on atmospheric neutrinos, we incorporate massive neutrinos, with large angle oscillation between the second and third generations, in a theory with R-parity violating supersymmetry. The general features of such a theory are briefly reviewed. We emphasize its testability through the observation of comparable numbers of muons and taus, produced together with the W-boson, in decays of the lightest neutralino. A distinctly measurable decay gap is another remarkable feature of such a scenario.
In lepton-number-violating supersymmetric models, there is no natural choice of basis to distinguish the down-type Higgs and lepton superfields. We employ basis-independent techniques to identify the massless majoron and associated light scalar in the case of spontaneously-broken lepton number (L). When explicit L-violation is added, these two scalars can acquire masses of order the electroweak scale and can be identified as massive sneutrinos.
