We present the exact solutions to the equations of the lowest energy states of the colored and color-symmetric sectors of the Bonn quark model, which is SU(3) symmetric and is defined in terms of an effective pairing force with $su(4)$ algebraic structure. We show that the groundstate of the model is not color symmetrical except for a narrow interval in the range of possible quark numbers. We also study the performance of the Glauber coherent state, as well as of superconducting states of the BCS type, with respect to the description, not only of the absolute (colored) groundstate, but also of the minimum energy state of the color-symmetrical sector, finding that it is remarkably good. We use the model to discuss, in a schematic context, some controversial aspects of the conventional treatment of color superconductivity.
We derive the values of nuclear symmetry energy, its components, as well as pressure in finite nuclei at saturation density from their corresponding values in nuclear matter obtained in non-relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock calculations with the realistic Bonn B and Bonn CD potentials using the coherent density fluctuation model in the framework of a self-consistent Skyrme-Hartree-Fock plus BCS method. We focus on three isotopic chains of spherical nuclei (Ni, Sn, and Pb) and compare our results with those obtained with an effective Brueckner density-dependent potential. The role of the thre…
Starting from the Bonn potential, relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (RBHF) equations are solved for nuclear matter in the full Dirac space, which provides a unique way to determine the single-particle potentials and avoids the approximations applied in the RBHF calculations in the Dirac space with positive-energy states (PESs) only. The uncertainties of the RBHF calculations in the Dirac space with PESs only are investigated, and the importance of the RBHF calculations in the full Dirac space is demonstrated. In the RBHF calculations in the full Dirac space, the empirical saturation properti…
As the residual interaction of quantum chromodynamics in low-energy region, the nucleon-nucleon (NN) potential can only be exactly described by the model picture now. In the Bonn potential, one of the most well-known NN interaction models, the nucleons interact with each other through exchanging the pion and several heavier mesons, where the pion plays an essential role. It provides a partial contribution of tensor force in the intermediate-range region and the main component in the long-range region in NN potential. However, it is very difficult to be treated in the nuclear many-body system d…
I review the phenomena associated with pairing in nuclear physics, most prominently the ubiquitous presence of odd-even mass differences and the properties of the excitation spectra, very different for even-even and odd-A nuclei. There are also significant dynamical effects of pairing, visible in the inertias associated with nuclear rotation and large-amplitude shape deformation.
Recent published data on the isoscalar gap in symmetric nuclear matter using the Paris force and the corresponding BHF single particle dispersion are corrected leading to an extremely high proton-neutron gap of $Δ\sim 8$ MeV at $ρ\sim 0.5ρ_0$. Arguments whether this value can be reduced due to screening effects are discussed. A density dependent delta interaction with cut off is adjusted so as to approximately reproduce the nuclear matter values with the Paris force.
We calculate the $^1S_0$ pairing gap in nuclear matter by adopting the "in-medium Bonn potential" proposed by Rapp et al. [e-print nucl-th/9706006], which takes into account the in-medium meson mass decrease, as the particle-particle interaction in the gap equation. The resulting gap is significantly reduced in comparison with the one obtained by adopting the original Bonn potential.
$^1S_0$ pairing in nuclear matter is investigated by taking the hadron mass decrease into account via the ``In-Medium Bonn potential'' which was recently proposed by Rapp et al. The resulting gap is significantly reduced in comparison with the one obtained with the original Bonn-B potential and we ascertain that the meson mass decrease is mainly responsible for this reduction.
Properties of nuclear matter are investigated in the framework of relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock model with the latest high-precision charge-dependent Bonn (pvCD-Bonn) potentials, where the coupling between pion and nucleon is adopted as pseudovector form. These realistic pvCD-Bonn potentials are renormalized to effective nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) interactions, $G$ matrices. They are obtained by solving the Blankenbecler-Sugar (BbS) equation in nuclear medium. Then, the saturation properties of symmetric nuclear matter are calculated with pvCD-Bonn A, B, C potentials. The energies per nucleo…
We provide accurate assessments of the consequences of violations of self-consistency in Hartree-Fock (HF) based random phase approximation (RPA) calculations of the centroid energy $E_{cen}$ of isoscalar and isovector giant resonances of multi-polarities $L=0-3$ in a wide range of nuclei. This is done by carrying out highly accurate HF-RPA calculations neglecting the particle-hole (ph) spin-orbit or Coulomb interaction in the RPA and comparing with the fully self-consistent HF-RPA results. We find that the shifts in the value of $E_{cen}$ due to self-consistency violation associated with the …
The present study brings forward important information, within the framework of spectral distribution theory, about the types of forces that dominate three realistic interactions, CD-Bonn, CDBonn+ 3terms and GXPF1, in nuclei and their ability to account for many-particle effects such as the formation of correlated nucleon pairs and enhanced quadrupole collective modes. Like-particle and proton-neutron isovector pairing correlations are described microscopically by a model interaction with Sp(4) dynamical symmetry, which is extended to include an additional quadrupole-quadrupole interaction. Th…
The properties of the nucleons in nuclear medium have been investigated in the context of the flux tube model incorporating strangeness $(s\bar{s})$ contribution to proton structure in conformity with the experimental indication. Proton is described as a pentaquark system with strange quark contribution whereas neutron is described in three quark configuration. The Quasi particle model of diquark is used to describe the structures of the nucleons. Modifications of the properties like swelling, mass, incompressibility, ratio of the structure functions ($\frac{F_{2}^{n}(x)}{F_{2}^{p}(x)}$), Gott…
We use a recently improved density-matrix expansion to calculate the nuclear energy density functional in the framework of in-medium chiral perturbation theory. Our calculation treats systematically the effects from $1π$-exchange, iterated $1π$-exchange, and irreducible $2π$-exchange with intermediate $Δ$-isobar excitations, including Pauli-blocking corrections up to three-loop order. We find that the effective nucleon mass $M^*(ρ)$ entering the energy density functional is identical to the one of Fermi-liquid theory when employing the improved density-matrix expansion. The strength $F_\nabla(…
Based on the current measurement of the neutron distribution radius ($R_n$) of $^{208}$Pb through the PREX-2 data, we re-visited the recently developed G3 and IOPB-I force parameter by fine-tuning some of the specific couplings within the relativistic mean-field model. The $ω-ρ-$mesons coupling $Λ_ω$ and the $ρ-$meson coupling $g_ρ$ are refitted to reproduce the experimental neutron radius of $^{208}$Pb without compromising the bulk properties of finite nuclei and infinite nuclear matter observables. The modified parameter sets are applied to calculate the gross properties of finite nuclei for…
In this work, a refined Bayesian neural network (BNN) based approach with six inputs including the proton number, mass number, and engineered features associated with the pairing effect, shell effect, isospin effect, and ``abnormal" shape staggering effect of $^{181,183,185}$Hg, is proposed to accurately describe nuclear charge radii. The new approach is able to well describe the charge radii of atomic nuclei with $A\ge40$ and $Z\ge20$. The standard root-mean-square (rms) deviation is $0.014$ fm for both the training and validation data. In particular, the predicted charge radii of proton-rich…
Various nuclear structure observables are evaluated employing low-momentum nucleon-nucleon (NN) potentials $V_{\rm low-k}$ derived from the CD-Bonn and Nijmegen NN interactions $V_{NN}$. By construction, the high momentum modes of the original $V_{NN}$ are integrated out in $V_{\rm low-k}$, with the requirement that the deuteron binding energy and low energy phase shifts of $V_{NN}$ are exactly reproduced. Using this interaction, we evaluate the bulk properties (binding energy and saturation density) of nuclear matter and finite nuclei, in particular their dependence on the cut-off parameter. …
The strong energy dependence of the s-wave eta-N scattering amplitude at and below threshold, as evident in coupled-channels K-matrix fits and chiral models that incorporate the S11 N*(1535) resonance, is included self-consistently in eta-nuclear bound-state calculations. This approach, applied recently in calculations of kaonic atoms and Kbar-nuclear bound states, is found to impose stronger constraints than ever on the onset of eta-nuclear binding, with a minimum value of Re a_{eta N} approximately 0.9 fm required to accommodate an eta-4He bound state. Binding energies and widths of eta-nucl…
We show that the dominant Gamow-Teller part, $M^{0ν}_{GT}$, of the nuclear matrix element governing the neutrinoless $ββ$ decay is related to the matrix element $M^{2ν}_{cl}$ governing the allowed two-neutrino $ββ$ decay. That relation is revealed when these matrix elements are expressed as functions of the relative distance $r$ between the pair of neutrons that are transformed into a pair of protons in the $ββ$ decay. Analyzing this relation allows us to understand the contrasting behavior of these matrix elements when $A$ and $Z$ is changed; while $M^{0ν}_{GT}$ changes slowly and smoothly, $…

The energy per particle, symmetry energy, pressure, Free energy are calculated for asymmetric nuclear matter using BHF approach and modern nucleon-nucleon CD-Bonn, Nijm1, Argonnev18 and Reid93 potentials. To obtain saturation in nuclear matter we add three-body interaction terms which are equivalent a la Skyrme to a density-dependent two-nucleon interaction. Good agreement is obtained in comparison with previous theoretical estimates and experimental data.
In the present work we are going to add a correction to the BHF potential calculation by introducing a two- body density dependent potential that acts as a three body interaction. Adding the result of this potential to the BHF potential would give us new saturation curves which coincide with the results obtained from the experiment. We compute the energy per particle versus density curves for symmetric nuclear matter, pure neutron matter and the symmetry energy using modern nucleon nucleon potentials like CD Bonn.
In this paper a microscopic state-of-the-art approach to calculation of the nuclear matrix element $M^{0ν}$ for neutrinoless double beta decay with an account for nuclear deformation is presented in length and applied for $^{76}$Ge, $^{150}$Nd and $^{160}$Gd. The proton-neutron quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) with a realistic residual interaction [the Brueckner $G$ matrix derived from the charge-depending Bonn (Bonn-CD) nucleon-nucleon potential] is used as the underlying nuclear structure model. The effects of the short range correlations and the quenching of the axial vector …
A new alternative approach to calculate the ratio of the surface to volume components of the nuclear symmetry energy is proposed in the framework of the coherent density fluctuation model (CDFM). A new expression (scheme II) for the ratio is derived consistently within the model. This expression appears in a form more direct and physically motivated than the expression (scheme I) that was used in our previous works within the CDFM and avoids preliminary assumptions and mathematical ambiguities in scheme I. The calculations are based on the Skyrme and Brueckner energy-density functionals for nu…
A covariant model based on the Bethe-Salpeter formalism is proposed for investigating the solar proton burning process $pp\to De^+ν_e$ and the near-threshold deuteron disintegration via electromagnetic and weak interactions. Results of numerical calculations of the energy dependence of relevant cross sections and the astrophysical low-energy cross section factor $S_{pp}$ of the proton burning process are presented. Our results confirm previous canonical values, and the energy dependence of the $S_{pp}$ factor is rather close to phenomenological extrapolations commonly adopted in computations o…
In this paper, we give an account of the peripheral-tube model, which has been developed to give an intuitive and dynamical description of the so-called ridge effect in two-particle correlations in high-energy nuclear collisions. Starting from a realistic event-by-event fluctuating hydrodynamical model calculation, we first show the emergence of ridge + shoulders in the so-called two-particle long-range correlations, reproducing the data. In contrast to the commonly used geometric picture of the origin of the anisotropic flow, we can explain such a structure dynamically in terms of the presenc…
The universal radiative corrections common to neutron and super-allowed nuclear beta decays (also known as ``inner'' corrections) are revisited in light of a recent dispersion relation study that found $+2.467(22)\%$, i.e.~about $2.4σ$ larger than the previous evaluation. For comparison, we consider several alternative computational methods. All employ an updated perturbative QCD four-loop Bjorken sum rule (BjSR) defined QCD coupling supplemented with a nucleon form factor based Born amplitude to estimate axial-vector induced hadronic contributions. In addition, we now include hadronic contrib…
Exact expressions of the Pauli exclusion operator Q in the nuclear matter calculation are presented in detail. Exact formulae are also given for the calculations of the single-particle-potential energy and the binding energy per nucleon with the exact Q operator. Numerical calculations of the G matrix in the lowest-order Brueckner theory are carried out to check the reliability of the standard angle-average approximation for the Q operator by employing the Bonn B and C NN potentials. It is observed that the exact treatment of the operator Q brings about non-negligible and attractive contributi…
We have reviewed the current status of the inclusive neutrino scattering from $^{12}$C in the low energy region corresponding to the neutrino beams from the pion, muon and kaon decaying at rest. The theoretical calculations of total cross sections in various nuclear models with special emphasis on the recent experiments with the monoenergetic neutrinos from KDAR [1] along with the older experiments from KARMEN and LSND collaborations have been discussed in the context of the recent works by Akbar et al. [2] and Nikolakopoulos et al. [3]. The inadequacy of the various theoretical models used to…
The eigenvalue problem of a short-range potential is revisited in view of the increased interest in simple models imitating the nuclear forces. This is in order to conduct calculations of vibronic energies in fermion-boson coupled systems.
We report here theoretical investigations on the complexity of nuclear structure, which have been carried out in the framework of different many-body approaches, typically applied to nuclear matter and quark matter studies. The variational, functional and perturbative scheme are illustrated in their latest developments. The effect of various nucleon-nucleon interactions are tested, particularly in the context of the nuclear response functions, against a large body of experimental data. The properties and decay widths of hypernuclei are shortly revisited, while the equation of state of isospin …
The understanding of the interaction of nucleons in nuclear and neutron-rich matter at non-zero temperature is important for a variety of applications ranging from heavy-ion collisions to nuclear astrophysics. In this papre we apply the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock method along with the Bonn B potential to predict single-particle properties in symmetric nuclear matter and neutron-rich matter at finite temperature. It is found that temperature effects are generally small but can be significant at low density and momentum.
We reexamine neutron-proton pairing as a phenomenon that should be explanable in a microscopic theory of nuclear binding energies. Empirically, there is an increased separation energy when both neutron and proton numbers are even or if they are both odd. The enhancement is present at some level in nearly all nuclei: the separation energy difference has the opposite sign in less than 1% of the cases in which sufficient data exist. We discuss the possible origin of the effect in the context of density functional theory (DFT) and its extensions. Neutron-proton pairing from the Hartree-Fock-Bogoli…
The properties of asymmetric nuclear matter have been investigated in a relativistic Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock framework using the Bonn A potential. The components of the self-energies are extracted by projecting on Lorentz invariant amplitudes. Furthermore, the optimal representation scheme for the $T$ matrix, the subtracted $T$ matrix representation, is applied and the results are compared to those of other representation schemes. Of course, in the limit of symmetric nuclear matter our results agree with those found in literature. The binding energy $E_b$ fulfills the quadratic dependence…
The location of the (gamma,p)/(gamma,n) and (gamma,alpha)/(gamma,n) line at gamma-process temperatures is discussed, using updated reaction rates based on global Hauser-Feshbach calculations. The results can directly be compared to classic gamma-process discussions. The nuclei exhibiting the largest sensitivity to uncertainties in nuclear structure and reaction parameters are specified and suggestions for experiments are made. Additionally, the impact of employing two recent global alpha+nucleus potentials is discussed. It is found that branchings at higher mass depend more sensitively on thes…
Asymmetric nuclear matter is treated in the formalism of Dirac-Brueckner approach with Bonn one-boson-exchange nucleon-nucleon interaction. We extract the symmetry energy coefficient at the saturation to be about 31 MeV, which is in good agreement with empirical value of $30\pm 4$ MeV. The symmetry energy is found to increase almost linearly with the density, which differs considerably from the results of non-relativistic approaches. This finding also supports the linear parameterization of Prakash, Ainsworth and Lattimer. We find, furthermore, that the higher-order dependence of the nuclear e…
In this note, a novel BCS-type formalism is constructed in the framework of a schematic QCD inspired quark model, having in mind the description of color symmetrical superconducting states. The physical properties of the BCS vacuum (average numbers of quarks of different colors) remain unchanged under an arbitrary color rotation. In the usual approach to color superconductivity, the pairing correlations affect only the quasi-particle states of two colors, the single particle states of the third color remaining unaffected by the pairing correlations. In the theory of color symmetrical supercond…
Properties of symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter have been investigated in the relativistic Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach based on projection techniques using the Bonn A potential. The momentum, density, and isospin dependence of the optical potentials and nucleon effective masses are studied. It turns out that the isovector optical potential depends sensitively on density and momentum, but is almost insensitive to the isospin asymmetry. Furthermore, the Dirac mass $m^*_D$ and the nonrelativistic mass $m^*_{NR}$ which parametrizes the energy dependence of the single particle spect…
We propose formulas of the nuclear beta-decay rate that are useful in a practical calculation. The decay rate is determined by the product of the lepton and hadron current densities. A widely used formula relies upon the fact that the low-energy lepton wave functions in a nucleus can be well approximated by a constant and linear to the radius for the $s$-wave and $p$-wave wave functions, respectively. We find, however, the deviation from such a simple approximation is evident for heavy nuclei with large $Z$ by numerically solving the Dirac equation. In our proposed formulas, the neutrino wave …
We present spectral calculations of nuclear matter properties including three-body forces. Within the in-medium T-matrix approach, implemented with the CD-Bonn and Nijmegen potentials plus the three-nucleon Urbana interaction, we compute the energy per particle in symmetric and neutron matter. The three-body forces are included via an effective density dependent two-body force in the in-medium T-matrix equations. After fine tuning the parameters of the three-body force to reproduce the phenomenological saturation point in symmetric nuclear matter, we calculate the incompressibility and the ene…
The nucleon radiative capture reactions are important in pure and applied nuclear physics, especially in nuclear astrophysics. The keV-nucleon radiative capture reactions are studied with $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O targets using the bound-to-continuum potential model in which both scattering and bound states are treated simultaneously and based on the Skyrme Hartree-Fock approximation. The obtained results are shown to be in good agreement with the available experimental data. Alongside astrophysical aspects, the nuclear structure features were revisited for enlarging the prospect of adopting the n…
A key point of Dirac Brueckner Hartree Fock calculations for nuclear matter is to decompose the self energy of the nucleons into Lorentz scalar and vector components. A new method is introduced for this decomposition. It is based on the dependence of the single-particle energy on the small component in the Dirac spinors used to calculate the matrix elements of the underlying NN interaction. The resulting Dirac components of the self-energy depend on the momentum of the nucleons. At densities around and below the nuclear matter saturation density this momentum dependence is dominated by the non…
Brueckner-Hartree-Fock theory allows to derive the $G$-matrix as an effective interaction between nucleons in the nuclear medium. It depends on the center of mass momentum $\bm{P}$ of the two particles and on the two relative momenta $\bm{q}$ and $\bm{q'}$ before and after the scattering process. In the evaluation of the total energy per particle in nuclear matter usually the angle averaged center of mass momentum approximation has been used. We derive in detail the exact expressions of the angular integrations of the momentum $\bm{P}$ within relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (RBHF) theory, …
An effective nucleon-nucleon interaction calculated in nuclear matter from the Bonn potential has been parametrized in terms of a local density- and energy-dependent two-body interaction. This allows to calculate the real part of the nucleus-nucleus scattering potential and to test this effective interaction over a wide region of densities ($ρ\leq 3ρ_0$) produced dynamically in scattering experiments. Comparing our calculations with empirical potentials extracted from data on light and heavy ion scattering by model-unrestricted analysis methods, we find quantitative agreement with the exceptio…
We discuss the interaction of an open heavy meson ($\bar{D}$ and $\bar{D}^{\ast}$ for charm or $B$ and $B^{\ast}$ for bottom) and a nucleon ($N$) by considering the $π$, $σ$, $ρ$, and $ω$ exchange potentials. We construct a potential model by respecting chiral symmetry for light quarks and spin symmetry for heavy quarks. Model parameters are adjusted by referring the phenomenological nuclear (CD-Bonn) potentials reproducing the low-energy $NN$ scatterings. We show that the resulting interaction may accommodate $\bar{D}N$ and $BN$ bound states with quantum number $I(J^{P})=0(1/2^{-})$, and a $B…
Recent microscopic and phenomenological calculations of giant dipole resonances for A <= 56 nuclei are presented. The derived photodisintegration cross sections are exhaustively compared to the photonuclear data available to date. An accurate description of the data is found. Our new calculations are also compared with the previous and widely-used estimates of Puget, Stecker and Bredekamp. The present calculations also include all the possible paths down the nuclear chart. The impact on the photodisintegration of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECR) is illustrated for a Fe source with typical…
Annihilation cross sections of antiprotons and antineutrons on the proton between 50 and 400 MeV/c show Coulomb focusing below 200 MeV/c and almost no charge-dependence above 200 MeV/c. Similar comparisons for heavier targets are not possible for lack of overlap between nuclear targets studied with $\bar p$ and $\bar n$ beams. Interpolating between $\bar p$-nucleus annihilation cross sections with the help of an optical potential to compare with $\bar n$-nucleus annihilation cross sections reveal unexpected features of Coulomb interactions in the latter. Direct comparisons between $\bar n$-nuc…
