Single-particle excitation spectra of gamma-Fe in the paramagnetic state have been investigated by means of the first-principles dynamical coherent potential approximation theory which has recently been developed. It is found that the central peak in the density of states consisting of the t2g bands is destroyed by electron correlations, and the Mott-Hubbard type correlated bands appear. The results indicate that the gamma-Fe can behave as correlated electrons at high temperatures.
Electronic structure, spin excitations, and orbital ordering in a three-orbital model for iron pnictides
Transferrins are proteins responsible for transporting metal ions in all vertebrates. However, the iron binding properties of transferrins remain poorly understood. Iron, as a transition metal, forms ions with partially-occupied 3d subshells. The electrons within the 3d orbitals of iron-bound transferrin are therefore highly localized, and interact with one another in a complex manner that cannot be fully characterized by considering each electron separately. In this work, we make use of dynamical mean field theory, a technique that accounts for the strong interactions between these electrons.…
The recent detailed study of quasi-one-dimensional iron-based ladders, with the $3d$ iron electronic density $n = 6$, has unveiled surprises, such as orbital-selective phases. However, similar studies for $n=6$ iron chains are still rare. Here, a three-orbital electronic Hubbard model was constructed to study the magnetic and electronic properties of the quasi-one-dimensional $n=6$ iron chain Ce$_2$O$_2$FeSe$_2$, with focus on the effect of doping. Specifically, introducing the Hubbard $U$ and Hund $J_{H}$ couplings and studying the model via the density matrix renormalization group, we report…

We present a comparative electronic structure study using DFT and various beyond-DFT (DFT+$U$, $G_0W_0$, DFT+DMFT) methods for ferromagnetic Iron (Fe) to find better approach for describing the spectral properties of correlated magnetic system. The computed value of $U$ ($W$) is $\sim$5.4 ($\sim$0.8) eV. The calculated spectra of all methods are providing good agreement with experimental spectra (ES) for peaks' positions. But, the proper line shape is only found from DFT+DMFT with correct estimation of incoherent states, which depends on $J$ and form of local Coulomb interactions. The estimati…
In this editorial, we first give a brief survey of the field of iron-selenide superconductivity, both in the case of bulk FeSe characterized by the co-existence of superconductivity and nematic order, and in the case of electron-doped FeSe characterized by high-temperature superconductivity. We next review the 8 contributions to the Frontiers in Physics research topic "High-Tc Superconductivity in Electron-Doped Iron Selenide and Related Compounds".
The transport properties of iron under Earth's inner core conditions are essential input for the geophysical modelling but are poorly constrained experimentally. Here we show that the thermal and electrical conductivity of iron at those conditions remains high even if the electron-electron-scattering (EES) is properly taken into account. This result is obtained by ab initio simulations taking into account consistently both thermal disorder and electronic correlations. Thermal disorder suppresses the non-Fermi-liquid behavior of the body-centered cubic iron phase, hence, reducing the EES; the t…
Berg, Metlitski and Sachdev, Science 338, 1606 (2012), have shown that the exchange of hidden spin fluctuations by conduction electrons with two orbitals can result in high-temperature superconductivity in copper-oxide materials. We introduce a similar model for high-temperature iron-selenide superconductors that are electron doped. Conduction electrons carry the minimal 3d xz and 3d yz iron-atom orbitals. Low-energy hidden spin fluctuations at the checkerboard wavevector Q_AF result from nested Fermi surfaces at the center and at the corner of the unfolded (one-iron) Brillouin zone. Magnetic …
This study leads to the investigation of the non-equilibrium electron relaxation in the normal state of iron pnictides. Here we consider the relaxation of electrons due to their coupling with magnons and phonons in the metallic state of iron pnictides using the memory function approach. In the present model, electrons live at a higher temperature than that of the phonon and magnon baths, mimicking a non-equilibrium steady state situation. Further we analyze theoretically the generalized Drude scattering rate within the framework of Two Temperature Model and study the full frequency and tempera…
Electron correlations play a central role in iron-based superconductors. In these systems, multiple Fe $3d$-orbitals are active in the low-energy physics, and they are not all degenerate. For these reasons, the role of orbital-selective correlations has been an active topic in the study of the iron-based systems. In this paper, we survey the recent developments on the subject. For the normal state, we emphasize the orbital-selective Mott physics that has been extensively studied, especially in the iron chalcogenides, in the case of electron filling $n \sim 6$. In addition, the interplay betwee…
In the iron-pnictide material CeFeAsO not only the Fe moments, but also the local 4f moments of the Ce order antiferromagnetically at low temperatures. We elucidate on the peculiar role of the Ce on the emergence of superconductivity. While application of pressure suppresses the iron SDW ordering temperature monotonously up to 4 GPa, the Ce-4f magnetism is stabilized, until both types of magnetic orders disappear abruptly and a narrow SC dome develops. With further increasing pressure characteristics of a Kondo-lattice system become more and more apparent in the electrical resistivity. This su…
The coupling of fermionic quasiparticles to magnons is essential for a wide range of processes, from ultrafast magnetization dynamics in ferromagnets to Cooper pairing in superconductors. Although magnon energies are generally much larger than phonon energies, up to now their electronic band renormalization effect in ferromagnetic metals suggests a significantly weaker quasiparticle interaction. Here, using spin- and angle-resolved photoemission, we show an extraordinarily strong renormalization leading to replica-band formation of an iron surface resonance at ~200 meV. Its strong magnetic lin…
The electronic structure of the vacancy-ordered K$_{0.5}$Fe$_{1.75}$Se$_2$ iron-selenide compound (278 phase) is studied using the first-principles density functional method. The ground state of the 278 phase is stripe-like antiferromagnetic, and its bare electron susceptibility shows a large peak around $(π, π)$ in the folded Brillouin zone. Near Fermi level, the density of states are dominated by the Fe-3d orbitals, and both electron-like and hole-like Fermi surfaces appear in the Brillouin zone. Unfolded band structure shows limited similarities to a hole doped 122 phase. With 0.1e electron…
