We analyze continuous-time quantum and classical random walk on spidernet lattices. In the framework of Stieltjes transform, we obtain density of states, which is an efficiency measure for the performance of classical and quantum mechanical transport processes on graphs, and calculate the spacetime transition probabilities between two vertices of the lattice. Then we analytically show that there are two power law decays $\sim t^{-3}$ and $\sim t^{-1.5}$ at the beginning of the transport for transition probability in the continuous-time quantum and classical random walk respectively. This results illustrate the decay of quantum mechanical transport processes is quicker than that of the classical one. Due to the result, the characteristic time $t_c$, which is the time when the first maximum of the probabilities occur on an infinite graph, for the quantum walk is shorter than that of the classical walk. Therefore, we can interpret that the quantum transport speed on spidernet is faster than that of the classical one. In the end, we investigate the results by numerical analysis for two examples.
A spidernet is a graph obtained by adding large cycles to an almost regular tree and considered as an example having intermediate properties of lattices and trees in the study of discrete-time quantum walks on graphs. We introduce the Grover walk on a spidernet and its one-dimensional reduction. We derive an integral representation of the $n$-step transition amplitude in terms of the free Meixner law which appears as the spectral distribution. As an application we determine the class of spidernets which exhibit localization. Our method is based on quantum probabilistic spectral analysis of gra…
Quantum walks determined by the coin operator on graphs have been intensively studied. The typical examples of coin operator are the Grover and Fourier matrices. The periodicity of the Grover walk is well investigated. However, the corresponding result on the Fourier walk is not known. In this paper, we present a necessary condition for the Fourier walk on regular graphs to have the finite period. As an application of our result, we show that the Fourier walks do not have any finite period for some classes of regular graphs such as complete graphs, cycle graphs with selfloops, and hypercubes.
Quantum walks on graphs have shown prioritized benefits and applications in wide areas. In some scenarios, however, it may be more natural and accurate to mandate high-order relationships for hypergraphs, due to the density of information stored inherently. Therefore, we can explore the potential of quantum walks on hypergraphs. In this paper, by presenting the one-to-one correspondence between regular uniform hypergraphs and bipartite graphs, we construct a model for quantum walks on bipartite graphs of regular uniform hypergraphs with Szegedy's quantum walks, which gives rise to a quadratic …
Quantum walks with memory(QWM) are a type of modified quantum walks that record the walker's latest path. The general model of coined QWM is presented in Phys. Rev. A 93, 042323 (2016). In this paper, we present general model of Szegedy QWM. Importantly, the relation of coined QWM and Szegedy QWM is revealed. By transforming coined QWM to Szegedy QWM, some amazing results about QWM are founded.
We investigate the quantum dynamics of particles on graphs ("quantum random walks"), with the aim of developing quantum algorithms for determining if two graphs are isomorphic (related to each other by a relabeling of vertices). We focus on quantum random walks of multiple non-interacting particles on strongly regular graphs (SRGs), a class of graphs with high symmetry that is known to have pairs of graphs that are hard to distinguish. Previous work has already demonstrated analytically that two-particle non-interacting quantum walks cannot distinguish non-isomorphic SRGs of the same family. H…
Quantum walks with memory(QWM) are a type of modified quantum walks that record the walker's latest path. As we know, only two kinds of QWM are presented up to now. It is desired to design more QWM for research, so that we can explore the potential of QWM. In this work, through presenting the one-to-one correspondence between QWM on a regular graph and quantum walks without memory(QWoM) on line digraph of the regular graph, we construct a generic model of QWM on regular graphs. This construction gives a general scheme for building all possible standard QWM on regular graphs and makes it possib…
In recent years, quantum walks have been widely researched and have shown exciting properties. One such is a quadratic speed-up in hitting time compared to its classical counterpart. In this paper, we design a quantum circuit for the MNRS algorithm, which finds a marked node in a graph with a quantum walk, and use it to find a hitting time for the marked nodes in the walk. We do this by implementing the circuit on IBM quantum simulators and show that the execution on a noise-free simulator results in hitting times that agree with the theoretical expectations. We also run the algorithm on a moc…
In network science, graphs obtained by taking the Kronecker or tensor power of the adjacency matrix of an initiator graph are used to construct complex networks. In this paper, we analytically prove sufficient conditions under which such Kronecker graphs can be searched by a continuous-time quantum walk in optimal $Θ(\sqrt{N})$ time. First, if the initiator is regular and its adjacency matrix has a dominant principal eigenvalue, meaning its unique largest eigenvalue asymptotically dominates the other eigenvalues in magnitude, then the Kronecker graphs generated by this initiator can be quantum…
In this paper, we study mixing and large decoherence in continuous-time quantum walks on one dimensional regular networks, which are constructed by connecting each node to its $2l$ nearest neighbors($l$ on either side). In our investigation, the nodes of network are represented by a set of identical tunnel-coupled quantum dots in which decoherence is induced by continuous monitoring of each quantum dot with nearby point contact detector. To formulate the decoherent CTQWs, we use Gurvitz model and then calculate probability distribution and the bounds of instantaneous and average mixing times. …
In this paper, we study decoherence in continuous-time quantum walks (CTQWs) on one-dimension regular networks. For this purpose, we assume that every node is represented by a quantum dot continuously monitored by an individual point contact(Gurvitz's model). This measuring process induces decoherence. We focus on small rates of decoherence and then obtain the mixing time bound of the CTQWs on one-dimension regular network which its distance parameter is $l\geq 2$. Our results show that the mixing time is inversely proportional to rate of decoherence which is in agreement with the mentioned re…
Berry and Wang [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 83}, 042317 (2011)] show numerically that a discrete-time quantum random walk of two noninteracting particles is able to distinguish some non-isomorphic strongly regular graphs from the same family. Here we analytically demonstrate how it is possible for these walks to distinguish such graphs, while continuous-time quantum walks of two noninteracting particles cannot. We show analytically and numerically that even single-particle discrete-time quantum random walks can distinguish some strongly regular graphs, though not as many as two-particle noninteracting d…
In this paper, we study the quantum walk on the 2D Penrose Lattice, which is intermediate between periodic and disordered structure. Quantum walk on Penrose Lattice is less efficient in transport comparing to the regular lattices. By calculating the final remaining probability on the initial nodes and estimating the low bound. Our results show that the broken of translational symmetry induces both the localized states and degeneracy of eigenstates at $E=0$, this two differences from regular lattices influence efficiency of quantum walk. Also, we observe the transition from inefficient to effic…
A quantum particle evolving by Schrödinger's equation contains, from the kinetic energy of the particle, a term in its Hamiltonian proportional to Laplace's operator. In discrete space, this is replaced by the discrete or graph Laplacian, which gives rise to a continuous-time quantum walk. Besides this natural definition, some quantum walk algorithms instead use the adjacency matrix to effect the walk. While this is equivalent to the Laplacian for regular graphs, it is different for non-regular graphs, and is thus an inequivalent quantum walk. We algorithmically explore this distinction by ana…
Continuous time quantum walks provide an important framework for designing new algorithms and modelling quantum transport and state transfer problems. Often, the graph representing the structure of a problem contains certain symmetries that confine the dynamics to a smaller subspace of the full Hilbert space. In this work, we use invariant subspace methods, that can be computed systematically using Lanczos algorithm, to obtain the reduced set of states that encompass the dynamics of the problem at hand without the specific knowledge of underlying symmetries. First, we apply this method to obta…
We study the transition matrix of a quantum walk on strongly regular graphs. It is proposed by Emms, Hancock, Severini and Wilson in 2006, that the spectrum of $S^+(U^3)$, a matrix based on the amplitudes of walks in the quantum walk, distinguishes strongly regular graphs. We find the eigenvalues of $S^+(U)$ and $S^+(U^2)$ for regular graphs.
The lackadaisical quantum walk is a discrete-time, coined quantum walk on a graph with a weighted self-loop at each vertex. It uses a generalized Grover coin and the flip-flop shift, which makes it equivalent to Szegedy's quantum Markov chain. It has been shown that a lackadaisical quantum walk can improve spatial search on the complete graph, discrete torus, cycle, and regular complete bipartite graph. In this paper, we observe that these are all vertex-transitive graphs, and when there is a unique marked vertex, the optimal weight of the self-loop equals the degree of the loopless graph divi…
We consider a discrete-time quantum walk, called the Grover walk, on a distance regular graph $X$. Given that $X$ has diameter $d$ and invertible adjacency matrix, we show that the square of the transition matrix of the Grover walk on $X$ is a product of at most $d$ commuting transition matrices of continuous-time quantum walks, each on some distance digraph of the line digraph of $X$. We also obtain a similar factorization for any graph $X$ in a Bose Mesner algebra.
We determine connected bipartite regular graphs with four distinct adjacency eigenvalues that induce periodic Grover walks, and show that it is only $C_6$. We also show that there are only three kinds of the second largest eigenvalues of bipartite regular periodic graphs with five distinct eigenvalues. Using walk-regularity, we enumerate feasible spectra for such graphs.
Characterizations graphs of some classes to induce periodic Grover walks have been studied for recent years. In particular, for the strongly regular graphs, it has been known that there are only three kinds of such graphs. Here, we focus on the periodicity of the Grover walks on distance-regular graphs. The distance-regular graph can be regarded as a kind of generalization of the strongly regular graphs and the typical graph with an equitable partition. In this paper, we find some classes of such distance-regular graphs and obtain some useful necessary conditions to induce periodic Grover walk…
We consider a quantum walk model on a finite graph which has an interaction with the outside. Here a quantum walker from the outside penetrates the graph and also a quantum walker in the graph goes out to the outside at every time step. This dynamics of the quantum walk converges to a stationary state. In this paper, we estimate the speed of the convergence to the stationary state on the $κ$-regular graph with the uniformly inserting of the inflow to the graph. We show that larger degree of the regular graph makes the convergence speed of this quantum walk model slower.
We probabilistically compute the spectrum of the line intersection graphs of two non-isomorphic generalized quadrangles of order $(5^2,5)$ under this matrix and thus provide strongly regular counter-examples to the conjecture.
We study the average probability that a discrete-time quantum walk finds a marked vertex on a graph. We first show that, for a regular graph, the spectrum of the transition matrix is determined by the weighted adjacency matrix of an augmented graph. We then consider the average search probability on a distance regular graph, and find a formula in terms of the adjacency matrix of its vertex-deleted subgraph. In particular, for any family of (1) complete graphs, or (2) strongly regular graphs, or (3) distance regular graphs of a fixed parameter $d$, varying valency $k$ and varying size $n$, such…
Entropies based on walks on graphs and on their line-graphs are defined. They are based on the summation over diagonal and off-diagonal elements of the thermal Green's function of a graph also known as the communicability. The walk entropies are strongly related to the walk regularity of graphs and line-graphs. They are not biased by the graph size and have significantly better correlation with the inverse participation ratio of the eigenmodes of the adjacency matrix than other graph entropies. The temperature dependence of the walk entropies is also discussed. In particular, the walk entropy …
In this paper we study a class of discrete quantum walks, known as bipartite walks. These include the well-known Grover's walks. Any discrete quantum walk is given by the powers of a unitary matrix $U$ indexed by arcs or edges of the underlying graph. The walk is periodic if $U^k=I$ for some positive integer $k$. Kubota has given a characterization of periodicity of Grover's walk when the walk is defined on a regular bipartite graph with at most five eigenvalues. We extend Kubota's results--if a biregular graph $G$ has eigenvalues whose squares are algebraic integers with degree at most two, w…
We build interacting Fock spaces from association schemes and set up quantum walks on the resulting regular graphs (distance-regular and distance-transitive). The construction is valid for growing graphs and the interacting Fock space is well defined asymptotically for the growing graph. To realize the quantum walks defined on the graphs in terms of anyons we switch to the dual view of the association schemes and identify the corresponding modular tensor categories from the Bose-Mesner algebra. Informally, the fusion ring induced by the association scheme and a topological twist can be the bas…
In this work we explain the necessity for consistently labeled rotation maps for efficiently computing coined discrete time quantum walks on regular graphs.
We obtain a structure theorem of the positive support of the $n$-th power of the Grover walk on $k$-regular graph whose girth is greater than $2(n-1)$. This structure theorem is provided by the parity of the amplitude of another quantum walk on the line which depends only on $k$. The phase pattern of this quantum walk has a curious regularity. We also exactly show how the spectrum of the $n$-th power of the Grover walk is obtained by lifting up that of the adjacency matrix to the complex plain.
We study perfect state transfer in Kendon's model of discrete quantum walks. In particular, we give a characterization of perfect state transfer purely in terms of the graph spectra, and construct an infinite family of $4$-regular circulant graphs that admit perfect state transfer. Prior to our work, the only known infinite families of examples were variants of cycles and diamond chains.
We study transport within a spatially heterogeneous one-dimensional quantum walk with a combination of hierarchical and random barriers. Recent renormalization group calculations for a spatially disordered quantum walk with a regular hierarchy of barriers alone have shown a gradual decrease in transport but no localization for increasing (but finite) barrier sizes. In turn, it is well-known that extensive random disorder in the spatial barriers is sufficient to localize a quantum walk on the line. Here we show that adding only a sparse (sub-extensive) amount of randomness to a hierarchy of bar…
We consider the Grover walk on infinite trees from the view point of spectral analysis. From the previous works, infinite regular trees provide localization. In this paper, we give the complete characterization of the eigenspace of this Grover walk, which involves localization of its behavior and recovers the previous works. Our result suggests that the Grover walk on infinite trees may be regarded as a limit of the quantum walk induced by the isotropic random walk with the Dirichlet boundary condition at the $n$-th depth rather than one with the Neumann boundary condition.
Our previous work presented explicit formulas for the generalized zeta function and the generalized Ihara zeta function corresponding to the Grover walk and the positive-support version of the Grover walk on the regular graph via the Konno-Sato theorem, respectively. This paper extends these walks to a class of walks including random walks, correlated random walks, quantum walks, and open quantum random walks on the torus by the Fourier analysis.
