The 18.6 keV antineutrino line from 2-body decay of 3H in crystals can be emitted with natural width because of motional averaging by lattice vibrations despite the very long lifetime of 3H and contrary to commonly held views of linewidths in such a case. It can be resonantly captured in 3He with geometrical cross section sigma ~10-17 cm2. Using its hypersharp sensitivity DELTAE/E ~10-29 and the method of time-filtered resonance, the basic energy width ~10-24 eV expected of the 3H state can be measured to test if ultimate nuclear widths are limited by the Planck length rather than time-energy …

Neutrino mass bound in the standard scenario for supernova electronic antineutrino emission

Based on recent improvements of the supernova electron antineutrino emission model, we update the limit on neutrino mass from the SN1987A data collected by Kamiokande-II, IMB and Baksan. We derive the limit of 5.8 eV at 95 % CL, that we show to be remarkably insensitive to the astrophysical uncertainties. Also we evaluate the ultimate mass sensitivity of this method for a detector like Super-Kamiokande. We find that the bound lies in the sub-eV region, 0.8 eV at 95 % CL being a typical outcome, competitive with the values that are presently probed in laboratory. However, this bound is subject …

A New Type of Resonant Neutrino Conversions Induced by Magnetic Fields

We consider resonant neutrino conversions in magnetised matter, such as a degenerate electron gas. We show how magnetisation effects caused by axial vector interactions of neutrinos with the charged leptons in the medium can induce a new type of resonant neutrino conversion which may occur even in situations where the MSW effect does not occur, such as the case of degenerate or inverted neutrino mass spectra. Our new resonance may simultaneously affect anti-neutrino $\bar{ν_a} \leftrightarrow \barν_b$ as well as neutrino $ν_{a} \leftrightarrow ν_b$ flavour conversions, and therefore it may sub…
