We discuss the duality symmetry of the linear(BFKL) and the non-linear(BK) high energy evolutions in the multicolor limit. We show that the usual color dipole picture is dual to the forward reggeized gluon formulation. The presented analysis is also generalized to the non-forward case where we suggest an extended version of the duality symmetry. We give it a physical interpretation as a symmetry under rotation of the Kernel in the transverse space from s-channel(dipoles) to t-channel(reggeized gluons). The duality symmetry is related to the integrability of the system. The duality symmetry of the BK equation found in the present study can be regarded as an indirect indication of its integrability.
Quark-hadron (QH) duality in lepton scattering off nucleons is studied with the resonance quark model. It is shown that in the case of neutrino scattering off an isoscalar target the duality is simultaneously observed for charged and neutral currents $xF_1^{νN}$, $F_2^{νN}$, and $xF_3^{νN}$ weak structure functions. We demonstrate that the QH duality can be useful property for modeling structure functions in the so-called resonance region. As an example it is shown that combining relativistic quark model predictions with duality arguments allows a construction of the inclusive resonance $F_2^{…
We show that the duality symmetry of the BFKL equation can be interpreted as a symmetry under rotation of the BFKL Kernel in the transverse space from s-channel (color dipole model) to t-channel (reggeized gluon formulation). We argue that the duality symmetry holds also in the non-forward case due to a very special structure of the non-forward BFKL Kernel, which can be written as a sum of three forward BFKL Kernels. The duality symmetry is established by identifying the dual coordinates with the transverse coordinates of a non-diagonal dipole scattered off the target.
In this talk, we review recent developments towards the calculation of multi-loop scattering amplitudes. In particular, we discuss how the colour-kinematics duality can provide new integral relations at one-loop level via the Loop-Tree duality formalism. On the other hand, in order to compute scattering amplitudes at one- and two-loop level, numerically and analytically, we describe the preliminary automation of the adaptive integrand decomposition algorithm. We show preliminary results on the analytic reduction of the $μe$-elastic scattering at one- and two-loop level.
It is proposed that $S$-duality is a fundamental symmetry of nature which is spontaneously broken. Axion and dilaton are identified with the doublet of the $S$-duality symmetry group $SL(2,\mathbbm{R})$. The symmetry is broken at a high scale corresponding to the experimentally estimated axion decay constant $f_χ$. The symmetry breaking mechanism is discussed in analogy with PCAC in pion physics. $S$-duality invariant interactions of fermions with axion and dilaton doublet are introduced. The symmetry breaking mechanism contributes negligibly small corrections to fermion masses in the QCD sect…
We propose a framework for a new type of finite field theories based on a hidden duality between an ultra-violet and an infra-red region. Physical quantities do not receive radiative corrections at a fundamental scale or the fixed point of the duality transformation, and this feature is compatible with models possessing a specific fermionic symmetry. Theories can be tested indirectly by relations among parameters, reflecting underlying symmetries.
We study deep inelastic scattering at large-'t Hooft coupling and finite $x$ from gauge/string duality beyond single-hadron final states which gives the leading large-$N_c$ contribution. Within the supergravity approximation, we calculate the subleading large-$N_c$ contribution by introducing an extra hadron into the final states. We find the contribution from these double-hadron final states will dominate in the Bjorken limit $q^2\rightarrow \infty$ compared with the single-hadron states. We discuss the implications of our results.
We reconsider the naturalness from the viewpoint of effective field theories, motivated by the alternative scenario that the standard model holds until a high-energy scale such as the Planck scale. We propose a calculation scheme of radiative corrections utilizing a hidden duality, in the expectation that the unnaturalness for scalar masses might be an artifact in the effective theory and it could be improved if features of an ultimate theory are taken in.
Differential cross sections of deep inelastic scattering of charged leptons from hadrons are investigated by using the gauge/string duality. We consider vector mesons derived from different holographic dual models obtaining a general expression. We focus on the strongly coupled regime of dual gauge theories for different values of the Bjorken parameter. We find new predictions which are particularly interesting for differential scattering cross sections of polarized leptons scattered off polarized vector mesons. We also carry out a detailed comparison of the moments of the structure functions …
We examine the interference γZ box corrections to parity-violating elastic electron--proton scattering in the light of the recent observation of quark-hadron duality in parity-violating deep-inelastic scattering from the deuteron, and the approximate isospin independence of duality in the electromagnetic nucleon structure functions down to Q^2 \approx 1 GeV^2. Assuming that a similar behavior also holds for the γZ proton structure functions, we find that duality constrains the γZ box correction to the proton's weak charge to be \Re e\, \square_{γZ}^V = (5.4 \pm 0.4) \times 10^{-3} at the kinem…
We discuss an attempt to understand confinement and dynamical symmetry breaking in a 4-dimensional non-supersymmetric gauge theory using S-duality in type IIB string theory. The electric theory is a USp(2n) gauge theory and its magnetic dual is argued to be an SO(2n) or SO(2n-1) gauge theory. These theories are obtained as the low-energy effective theory of O3-D3bar systems in type IIB string theory, which are related by S-duality. Confinement and dynamical symmetry breaking in the USp(2n) gauge theory are caused by the condensation of scalar fields in the magnetic dual description, which is c…
We use gauge/gravity duality to study deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) in the limit of high center of mass energy at fixed momentum transfer, corresponding to the limit of low Bjorken x, where the process is dominated by the exchange of the pomeron. Using conformal Regge theory we review the form of the amplitude for pomeron exchange, both at strong and weak 't Hooft coupling. At strong coupling, the pomeron is described as the graviton Regge trajectory in AdS space, with a hard wall to mimic confinement effects. This model agrees with HERA data in a large kinematical range. The behavi…
We propose a new representation of the nonlinear sigma model that exhibits a manifest duality between flavor and kinematics. The fields couple exclusively through cubic Feynman vertices which also serve as the structure constants of an underlying kinematic algebra. The action is invariant under a combination of internal and spacetime symmetries whose conservation equations imply flavor-kinematics duality, ensuring that all Feynman diagrams satisfy kinematic Jacobi identities. Substituting flavor for kinematics, we derive a new cubic action for the special Galileon theory. In this picture, the …
In this work we use the string/gauge duality within the Softwall Model (SW). In this model a dilaton field is introduced in the action for the fields playing the role of a soft infrared (IR) cutoff. The SW model is very useful as it provides linear Regge trajectories for mesons. Here, using a $10-$dimensional SW model, we calculate the corresponding structure functions for deep inelastic scattering (DIS) in which electrons are scattered off hadrons in a kinematical regime where the hadrons are broken apart, with high virtuality $q$, in the exponentially small $x$ (Bjorken parameter) regime. Ou…
In this work, we perform the one-loop calculation of the scalar and pseudoscalar form factors in the framework of U(3) chiral perturbation theory with explicit tree level exchanges of resonances. The meson-meson scattering calculation from Ref.[1] is extended as well. The spectral functions of the nonet scalar-scalar (SS) and pseudoscalar-pseudoscalar (PP) correlators are constructed by using the corresponding form factors. After fitting the unknown parameters to the scattering data, we discuss the resonance content of the resulting scattering amplitudes. We also study spectral-function sum ru…
We consider type IIA brane configurations, similar to those that realize SO(2N) supersymmetric QCD, that include orientifold planes and anti-branes. Such brane configurations lead to Sp(2N) field theories that become supersymmetric in the large-N limit and break supersymmetry upon the inclusion of 1/N corrections. We argue that this class of field theories admit Seiberg duality and interpret the potential between branes and orientifolds as field theory phenomena. In particular we find in the magnetic theory a meson potential that leads to dynamical symmetry breaking and a meson condensate simi…
In this paper, we investigate deep inelastic and elastic scattering on a polarized spin-1/2 hadron using gauge/string duality. This spin-1/2 hadron corresponds to a supergravity mode of the dilatino. The polarized deep inelastic structure functions are computed in supergravity approximation at large t' Hooft coupling $λ$ and finite $x$ with $λ^{-1/2}\ll x<1$. Furthermore, we discuss the moments of all structure functions, and propose an interesting sum rule $\int_{0}^{1} \textrm{d}x g_2(x, q^2) =0$ for $g_2$ structure function which is known as the Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rule in QCD. In the …
Interesting theories with short range interactions include QCD in the hadronic phase and cold atom systems. The scattering length in two-to-two elastic scattering process captures the most elementary features of the interactions, such as whether they are attractive or repulsive. However, even this basic quantity is notoriously difficult to compute from first principles in strongly coupled theories. We present a method to compute the two-to-two amplitudes and the scattering length using the holographic duality. Our method is based on the identification of the residues of Green's functions in th…
