Experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) might test the picture of supersymmetric Grand Unification in particle physics. We argue that the identification of gaugino masses is the most promising step in this direction. Mass predictions for gauginos are pretty robust and often related to the values of the gauge couplings constants. They might allow a meaningful crosscheck for grand unification, at least in simple schemes like gravity, anomaly or mirage mediation.
The simplest gauge theories for the conservation of R-parity in supersymmetry are discussed. We show how the minimal theory based on the B-L gauge symmetry predicts that R-parity must be spontaneously broken at the TeV scale. The most striking signals of these theories at the Large Hadron Collider are discussed. We present a realistic theory where the local baryon and lepton numbers are spontaneously broken at the supersymmetry breaking scale. The possibility to understand the conservation of R-parity in grand unified theories defined in four dimensions is mentioned.
Precision gauge coupling unification is one of the primary quantitative successes of low energy or split supersymmetry. Preserving this success puts severe restrictions on possible matter and gauge sectors that might appear at collider-accessible energies. In this work we enumerate new gauge sectors which are compatible with unification, consisting of horizontal gauge groups acting on vector-like matter charged under the Standard Model. Interestingly, almost all of these theories are in the supersymmetric conformal window at high energies and confine quickly after the superpartners are decoupl…
String compactification with fluxes yields MSSM soft SUSY breaking terms that receive comparable contributions from modulus and anomaly mediation whose relative strength is governed by a phenomenological parameter $α$. Gaugino and first/second generation (and sometimes also Higgs and third generation) scalar mass parameters unify at a mirage unification scale $Q \not= M_{\rm GUT}$, determined by the value of $α$. The ratio of scalar to gaugino masses at this mirage unification scale depends directly on the scalar field modular weights, which are fixed in turn by the brane or brane intersection…
We propose a novel approach of probing grand unification through precise measurements on the Higgs Yukawa couplings at the LHC. This idea is well motivated by the appearance of effective operators not suppressed by the mass scale of unification $M_{\rm{U}}$ in realistic models of unification with the minimal structure of Yukawa sector. Such operators modify the Higgs Yukawa couplings in correlated patterns at scale $M_{\rm{U}}$ that hold up to higher-order corrections. The coherences reveal a feature that, the deviation of tau Yukawa coupling relative to its standard model value at the weak sc…
We explore $t-b-τ$ Yukawa unification (YU) in a supersymmetric $SU(4)_c \times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R $ model without imposing a discrete left-right (L-R) symmetry. A number of interesting solutions that are compatible with $t-b-τ$ YU, LSP neutralino dark matter (DM), and LHC and other experimental constraints are identified. In particular, they include gluino-neutralino and stau-neutralino co-annihilation scenarios, where the NLSP gluino mass can range from 1-3 TeV. Higgsino-like dark matter solutions are also identified for which gluino masses can approach 5 TeV or so. This scenario will be …
Signatures of the $SO(5)\times U(1)$ gauge-Higgs unification at LHC and future colliders are explored. The Kaluza-Klein (KK) mass spectra of $γ, Z, Z_R$ and the Higgs self-couplings obey universality relations with the Aharonov-Bohm (AB) phase $θ_H$ in the fifth dimension. The current data at low energies and at LHC indicate $θ_H <0.2$. Couplings of quarks and leptons to KK gauge bosons are determined. Three neutral gauge bosons, the first KK modes $Z_R^{(1)}$, $Z^{(1)}$, and $γ^{(1)}$, appear as $Z'$ bosons in dilepton events at LHC. For $θ_H = 0.114$, the mass and decay width of $Z_R^{(1)}$,…
LHC-7 has narrowed down the mass range of the light Higgs boson. This result is consistent with the supergravity unification framework, and the current Higgs boson mass window implies a rather significant loop correction to the tree value pointing to a relatively heavy scalar sparticle spectrum with universal boundary conditions. It is shown that the largest value of the Higgs boson mass is obtained on the Hyperbolic Branch of radiative breaking. The implications of light Higgs boson in the broader mass range of 115 GeV to 131 GeV and a narrower range of 123 GeV to 127 GeV are explored in the …
In the gauge-Higgs unification scenario the 4D Higgs field is identified with the zero mode of the extra-dimensional component of gauge potentials. The mass of the Higgs particle in the unification in the Randall-Sundrum warped spacetime is predicted to be in the range 100 GeV - 300 GeV. The WWZ gauge couplings remains almost universal as in the standard model, but substantial deviation results for the Higgs couplings. The WWH and ZZH couplings are suppressed by a factor \cos θ_H from the values in the standard model, where θ_H is the Yang-Mills AB phase along the fifth dimension. These can be…
Higgs boson production by the gluon fusion and its decay into two photons at the LHC are investigated in the context of the gauge-Higgs unification scenario. The qualitative behaviors for these processes in the scenario are quite distinguishable from those of the Standard Model and the universal extra dimension scenario because of the overall sign difference for the effective couplings induced by one-loop corrections through Kaluza-Klein modes.
We consider non-canonical embeddings of the MSSM in high-dimensional orbifold GUTs based on the gauge symmetry SU(N), N=5,6,7,8. The hypercharge normalization factor k_Y can either have unique non-canonical values, such as 23/21 in a six-dimensional SU(7) model, or may lie in a (continuous) interval. Gauge coupling unification and gauge-Yukawa unification can be realized in these models by introducing new particles with masses in the TeV range which may be found at the LHC. In one such example there exist color singlet fractionally charged states.
In this letter, we study collider phenomenology in the supersymmetric Standard Model with a certain type of non-universal gaugino masses at the gauge coupling unification scale, motivated by the little hierarchy problem. In this scenario, especially the wino mass is relatively large compared to the gluino mass at the unification scale, and the heavy wino can relax the fine-tuning of the higgsino mass parameter, so-called $μ$-parameter. Besides, it will enhance the lightest Higgs boson mass due to the relatively large left-right mixing of top squarks through the renormalization group (RG) effec…
Higgs boson production by the gluon fusion and its decay into two photons at the LHC are investigated in the context of the gauge-Higgs unification scenario. The qualitative behaviors for these processes in the gauge-Higgs unification are quite distinguishable from those of the Standard Model and the universal extra dimension scenario because of the overall sign difference for the effective couplings induced by one-loop corrections through Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes. For the KK mode mass smaller than 1 TeV, the Higgs productions cross section and its branching ratio into two photons are sizably d…
We study models of supersymmetric grand unification based on the SO(10) gauge group. We investigate scenarios of non-universal gaugino masses including models containing a mixture of two representations of hidden sector chiral superfields. We analyse the effect of excluding mu from the fine-tuning measure, and confront the results with low energy constraints, including the Higgs boson mass, dark matter relic density and supersymmetry bounds. We also determine high scale Yukawa coupling ratios and confront the results with theoretical predictions. Finally, we present two additional benchmarks t…
The gauge coupling unification can be achieved at a unification scale around 5 x 10^{13} GeV if the Standard Model scalar sector is extended with extra Higgs-like doublets. The relevant new scalar degrees of freedom in the form of chiral Z* and W* vector bosons might "be visible" already at about 700 GeV. Their eventual preferred coupling to the heavy quarks explains the non observation of these bosons in the first LHC run and provides promising expectation for the second LHC run.
We examine the possibility of measuring the three gauge couplings at high scales at the LHC, in order to see the first steps as they run toward Grand Unification at much higher energies. Using the MSSM with sparticle masses of several hundred GeV as an example of a theory in which the couplings do unify at very high energies, we find that the processes pp->lv, pp->l+l- and pp->gamma+j can be useful to discriminate the SM from the MSSM with masses at the few hundred GeV scale, and determine that the couplings are converging at better than the SM prediction toward the GUT scale. Such measurement…
We examine the possibility of observing the Kaluza-Klein gluons in gauge-Higgs unification models at the LHC with the energy sqrt{s}=14 TeV. We consider a benchmark model with the gauge symmetry SU(3)_C x SU(3)_W in five-dimensional space-time, where SU(3)_C is the gauge symmetry of the strong interaction and SU(3)_W is that for the electroweak interaction and a Higgs doublet field. It is natural in general to introduce SU(3)_C gauge symmetry in five-dimensional space-time as well as SU(3)_W gauge symmetry in gauge-Higgs unification models. Since the fifth dimension is compactified to S1/Z2 or…
The di-photon excess observed at the LHC can be explained as a Standard Model singlet that is produced and decays by heavy vector-like colour triplets and electroweak doublets in one-loop diagrams. The characteristics of the required spectrum are well motivated in heterotic-string constructions that allow for a light $Z^\prime$. Anomaly cancellation of the $U(1)_{Z^\prime}$ symmetry requires the existence of the Standard Model singlet and vector-like states in the vicinity of the $U(1)_{Z^\prime}$ breaking scale. In this paper we show that the agreement with the gauge coupling data at one-loop…
A wide variety of unified models predict asymptotic relations at $M_{GUT}$ between the b quark and $τ$ lepton Yukawa couplings. Within the framework of supersymmetric SU(4) $\times$ SU(2)$_L \times$ SU(2)$_R$, we explore regions of the parameter space that are compatible with b-$τ$ quasi-Yukawa unification and the higgsinos being the lightest supersymmetric particles ($\lesssim$ 1 TeV). Among the colored sparticles, the stop weighs more than 1.5 TeV or so, whereas the squarks of the first two families are signifcantly heavier, approaching 10 TeV in some cases. The gluino mass is estimated to l…
LHC constraints on the recently proposed SUSY SO(10) GUT model with top-bottom-tau Yukawa unification are investigated. In this model, various phenomenological constraints are in concord with the Yukawa unification thanks to the negative sign of μ, D-term splitting in the soft scalar masses and non-universal gaugino masses generated by a non-zero F-term in a 24-dimensional representation of SU(5) \subset SO(10). After discussing the impact of the CP-odd Higgs boson mass bound on this model, we provide a detailed analysis of the recent direct SUSY searches performed by ATLAS and investigate the…
The status of top-bottom-tau Yukawa coupling unification in supersymmetric SO(10) models is reviewed with a particular emphasis on the implications of the Higgs boson mass in the vicinity of 125 GeV, as suggested by the LHC Higgs data. In addition, the recently proposed model with negative μ, D-term splitting of the soft scalar masses and non-universal gaugino masses generated by a non-zero F-term in a 24-dimensional representation of SU(5) \subset SO(10) is re-analysed in the context of the 125 GeV Higgs. The condition of top-bottom-tau Yukawa unification together with the Higgs mass of about…
Sparticle mass hierarchies contain significant information regarding the origin and nature of supersymmetry breaking. The hierarchical patterns are severely constrained by electroweak symmetry breaking as well as by the astrophysical and particle physics data. They are further constrained by the Higgs boson mass measurement. The sparticle mass hierarchies can be used to generate simplified models consistent with the high scale models. In this work we consider supergravity models with universal boundary conditions for soft parameters at the unification scale as well as supergravity models with …
We have studied the Kaluza-Klein (KK) mode contributions to the diphoton decay of Higgs boson through the gluon fusion at LHC in a five dimensional $SU(3) times U(1)'$ gauge-Higgs unification (GHU) model. The minimal matter content case is found that the diphoton decay is necessarily destructive comparing to the Standard Model (SM) prediction, which is unfortunately not supported by the current experimental data. Two extensions are considered to not only enhance the diphoton decay but also realize an observed Higgs mass. The $Z gamma$ decay of Higgs boson is also studied and the striking resul…
We look for minimal extensions of Standard Model with vector like fermions leading to precision unification of gauge couplings. Constraints from proton decay, Higgs stability and perturbativity are considered. The simplest models contain several copies of vector fermions in two different (incomplete) representations. Some of these models encompass Type III seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses whereas some others have a dark matter candidate. In all the models, at least one of the candidates has non-trivial representation under $SU(3)_{color}$. In the limit of vanishing Yukawa couplings, new QC…
We study the properties and production mechanisms of color-octet scalars at the LHC. We focus on the single production of both charged and neutral members of an (8,2)_1/2 doublet through bottom quark initial states. These channels provide a window to the underlying Yukawa structure of the scalar sector. Color-octet scalars naturally appear in grand unified theories based on the SU(5) gauge symmetry. In the context of adjoint SU(5) these fields are expected to be light to satisfy constraints coming from unification and proton decay, and may have TeV-scale masses. One combination of their coupli…
Supersymmetric grand unified models based on the gauge group SU(5) often require in addition to gauge coupling unification, the unification of b-quark and $τ$-lepton Yukawa couplings. We examine SU(5) SUSY GUT parameter space under the condition of $b-τ$ Yukawa coupling unification using 2-loop MSSM RGEs including full 1-loop threshold effects. The Yukawa-unified solutions break down into two classes. Solutions with low tanβ~3-11 are characterized by gluino mass ~1-4 TeV and squark mass ~1-5 TeV. Many of these solutions would be beyond LHC reach, although they contain a light Higgs scalar with…
We investigate supersymmetric models with left-right symmetry based on the group $SU(4)_{c} \times SU(2)_{L} \times SU(2)_{R}$ ($4$-$2$-$2$) with negative sign of bilinear Higgs potential parameter $μ$ in the context of the latest experimental results. In the backdrop of experimental results from the Large Hadron Collider, we investigate the possibility of Yukawa unification in $4$-$2$-$2$ and find out the same is still not ruled out. Furthermore, this scenario also provides a satisfactory dark matter candidate. The current experimental bounds on sparticle masses, mass bounds on Higgs particle…
With the assumptions that dark matter consists of an electroweak triplet and that the gauge couplings unify at a high scale, we identify robust phenomenological trends of possible matter contents at the TeV scale. In particular, we expect new colored states within the LHC reach that can have Yukawa couplings lambda to quarks and the Higgs. We investigate the collider signatures that are characteristic of all such models by adopting the model with the simplest matter content as a benchmark. The lambda couplings are constrained by flavor/CP physics. In the largest portion of the allowed paramete…
The $pp\to \{W, W'\} \to lν$ and $pp\to \{γ, Z, Z'\} \to l^+l^-$ ($l=e,μ$) processes in the $SU(3)_C\times SO(5)\times U(1)_X$ gauge-Higgs unification (GHU) models are studied, where $W'$ and $Z'$ bosons are Kaluza-Klein (KK) exited states of the electroweak gauge bosons. From the experimental data collected at the Large Hadron Collider, constraints on the KK mass scale and the Aharonov-Bohm phase are obtained. One can explore the KK mass scale in the GUT inspired GHU model up to 18 TeV for the luminosity 300 fb$^{-1}$ and 22 TeV for the luminosity 3000 fb$^{-1}$ at $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV.
In this talk we discuss SO(10) Yukawa unification and its ramifications for phenomenology. The initial constraints come from fitting the top, bottom and tau masses, requiring large $\tanβ\sim 50$ and particular values for soft SUSY breaking parameters. We perform a global $χ^2$ analysis, fitting the recently observed `Higgs' with mass of order 125 GeV in addition to fermion masses and mixing angles and several flavor violating observables. We discuss two distinct GUT scale boundary conditions for soft SUSY breaking masses. In both cases we have a universal cubic scalar parameter, $A_0$. In the…
We report on the first step of a systematic study of how gaugino mass unification can be probed at the LHC in a quasi-model independent manner. Here we focus our attention on the theoretically well-motivated mirage pattern of gaugino masses, a one-parameter family of models of which universal (high scale) gaugino masses are a limiting case. Using a statistical method to optimize our signature selection we arrive at three ensembles of observables targeted at the physics of the gaugino sector, allowing for a determination of this non-universality parameter without reconstructing individual mass …
This paper introduces a random statistical scan over the high-energy initial parameter space of the minimal SUSY $B-L$ model--denoted as the $B-L$ MSSM. Each initial set of points is renormalization group evolved to the electroweak scale--being subjected, sequentially, to the requirement of radiative $B-L$ and electroweak symmetry breaking, the present experimental lower bounds on the $B-L$ vector boson and sparticle masses, as well as the lightest neutral Higgs mass of $\sim$125 GeV. The subspace of initial parameters that satisfies all such constraints is presented, shown to be robust and to…
The recent discovery of nonzero $θ_{13}$ (equal to Cabbibo angle $θ_C$ up to a factor of $\sqrt{2}$), the masses of supersymmetric particles $\gapp$ TeV from LHC data, and the sum of three active neutrino masses $\sum_i m_{ν_i}\lapp 1$ eV from the study of large scale structure of the universe motivate to study whether quark and lepton mixing have the same origin at the grand unification scale. We find that both results from neutrino experiments and LHC are complementary in quark-lepton unified model. A new constraint on SUSY parameters appears from electroweak symmetry breaking with a new cor…
We construct a comprehensive list of non-supersymmetric standard model extensions with a low-scale LR-symmetric intermediate stage that may be obtained as simple low-energy effective theories within a class of renormalizable $SO(10)$ GUTs. Unlike the traditional "minimal" LR models many of our example settings support a perfect gauge coupling unification even if the LR scale is in the LHC domain at a price of only (a few copies of) one or two types of extra fields pulled down to the TeV-scale ballpark. We discuss the main aspects of a potentially realistic model building conforming the basic c…
We explore the dark matter and LHC implications of t-b-tau quasi Yukawa unification in the framework of supersymmetric models based on the gauge symmetry G=SU(4)_{c}\times SU(2)_{L}\times SU(2)_{R}. The deviation from exact Yukawa unification is quantified by a dimensionless parameter C (|C| <~ 0.2), such that the Yukawa couplings at M_GUT are related by y_t:y_b:y_tau=|1+C| : |1-C| : |1+3C|. In contrast to earlier studies which focused on universal gaugino masses, we consider non-universal gaugino masses at M_GUT that are compatible with the gauge symmetry G. We perform two independent scans o…
A brief review is given of recent developments related to the Higgs signal and its implications for supersymmetry in the supergravity grand unification framework. The Higgs data indicates that the allowed parameter space largely lies on focal curves and focal surfaces of the Hyperbolic Branch of radiative breaking of the electroweak symmetry where TeV size scalars naturally arise. The high mass of the Higgs leads to a more precise prediction for the allowed range of the spin independent neutralino -proton cross section which is encouraging for the detection of dark matter in future experiments…
We begin a systematic study of how gaugino mass unification can be probed at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in a quasi-model independent manner. As a first step in that direction we focus our attention on the theoretically well-motivated mirage pattern of gaugino masses, a one-parameter family of models of which universal (high scale) gaugino masses are a limiting case. We improve on previous methods to define an analytic expression for the metric on signature space and use it to study one-parameter deviations from universality in the gaugino sector, randomizing over other soft supersymm…
We give here an overview of recent developments in high energy physics and cosmology and their interconnections that relate to unification, and discuss prospects for the future. Thus there are currently three empirical data that point to supersymmetry as an underlying symmetry of particle physics: the unification of gauge couplings within supersymmetry, the fact that nature respects the supersymmetry prediction that the Higgs boson mass lie below 130 GeV, and vacuum stability up to the Planck scale with a Higgs boson mass at $\sim 125$ GeV while the standard model does not do that. Coupled wit…
We investigate the possibility of TeV-scale scalars as low energy remnants arising in the non-supersymmetric $\mathrm{SO}(10)$ grand unification framework where the field content is minimal. We consider a scenario where the $\mathrm{SO}(10)$ gauge symmetry is broken into the gauge symmetry of the Standard Model (SM) through multiple stages of symmetry breaking, and a colored and hypercharged scalar $χ$ picks a TeV-scale mass in the process. The last stage of the symmetry breaking occurs at the TeV scale where the left-right symmetry, i.e. $\mathrm{SU}(2)_L\otimes \mathrm{SU}(2)_R\otimes \mathr…
We explore possible signatures for charged lepton flavour violation (LFV), sparticle discovery at the LHC and dark matter (DM) searches in grand unified theories (GUTs) based on SU(5), flipped SU(5) (FSU(5)) and SU(4)$_c \times $SU(2)$_L \times $SU(2)$_R$ (4-2-2). We assume that soft supersymmetry-breaking terms preserve the group symmetry at some high input scale, and focus on the non-universal effects on different matter representations generated by gauge interactions at lower scales, as well as the charged LFV induced in Type-1 see-saw models of neutrino masses. We identify the different me…
We point out that the hypothesis of a SU(5)-like supersymmetric Grand Unified Theory (GUT) implies a generic relation within the flavour structure of up-type squarks. Contrary to other well-known SU(5) relations between the down-quark and charged lepton sectors, this relation remains exact in the presence of any corrections and extra operators. Moreover it remains valid to a good precision at the electroweak scale, and opens thus new possibilities for testing SU(5)-like GUTs. We derive the low-energy effective theory of observable light up-type squarks, that also constitutes a useful tool for …
The cosmological constant problem is a failure of naturalness and suggests that a fine-tuning mechanism is at work, which may also address the hierarchy problem. An example -- supported by Weinberg's successful prediction of the cosmological constant -- is the potentially vast landscape of vacua in string theory, where the existence of galaxies and atoms is promoted to a vacuum selection criterion. Then, low energy SUSY becomes unnecessary, and supersymmetry -- if present in the fundamental theory -- can be broken near the unification scale. All the scalars of the supersymmetric standard model…
In this paper we study Yukawa-unified SO(10) SUSY GUTs with two types of SO(10) boundary conditions: (i) universal gaugino masses and (ii) non-universal gaugino masses with effective "mirage" mediation. With these boundary conditions, we perform a global chi^2 analysis to obtain the parameters consistent with 11 low energy observables, including the top, bottom, and tau masses. Both boundary conditions have universal scalar masses and "just so" splitting for the up- and down-type Higgs masses. In these models, the third family scalars are lighter than the first two families and the gauginos ar…
We analyze the compatibility of the recent LHC signals and the TeV-scale left-right model(s) in the minimal nonsupersymmetric $SO(10)$ framework. We show that the models in which the Higgs content is selected based on the extended survival hypothesis do not allow the $W_R$ boson to be at the TeV-scale. By relaxing this conjecture, we investigate various scenarios where a number of colored-scalars, originated from various Pati-Salam multiplets, are light and whence they survive down to the low energies. Performing a detailed renormalization group analysis with various low-energy Higgs configura…
We propose a simple renormalizable grand unified theory based on the $SU(5)$ gauge symmetry where the neutrino masses are generated at the quantum level through the Zee mechanism. In this model the same Higgs needed to correct the mass relation between charged leptons and down-type quarks plays a crucial role to generate neutrino masses. We show that in this model one can satisfy the constrains coming from the unification of gauge couplings and the mechanism for neutrino masses is discussed in detail. The predictions for proton decay are discussed in order to understand the testability at curr…
The requirement of electroweak naturalness in simple supersymmetric models implies the existence of a cluster of four light higgsinos with mass $\sim 100-300$\,GeV, the lighter the better. While such light compressed spectra may be challenging to observe at LHC, the International Linear $e^+e^-$ Collider (ILC) with $\sqrt{s}>2m_{\rm higgsino}$ would serve as both a SUSY discovery machine and a precision microscope. We study higgsino pair production signatures at the ILC based on full, \texttt{Geant4-}based simulation of the ILD detector concept. We examine several benchmark scenarios that may …
We present a study of b-tau Yukawa unified supersymmetric SU(4)_c x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R model (with mu > 0), which predicts the existence of gluino - neutralino and stop - neutralino coannihilation scenarios compatible with the desired relic LSP neutralino dark matter abundance and other collider constraints. The NLSP gluino or NLSP stop masses vary between 400 GeV to ~ 1 TeV. The NLSP gluinos will be accessible at the 14 TeV LHC, while we hope that the NSLP stop solutions will be probed in future LHC searches. We also identify regions of the parameter space in which the gluino and the lighter s…
This paper is divided into two parts. In the first part we analyze the consequences, for the LHC, of gauge and third family Yukawa coupling unification with a particular set of boundary conditions defined at the GUT scale. We perform a global chi^2 analysis including the observables M_W, M_Z, G_F, 1/alpha_em, alpha_s(M_Z), M_t,m_b(m_b), M_tau, BR(B -> X_s gamma), BR(B_s -> mu^+ mu^-) and M_h. The fit is performed in the MSSM in terms of 9 GUT scale parameters, while tan beta and mu are fixed at the weak scale. Good fits suggest an upper bound on the gluino mass, M_gluino \lesssim 2 TeV. This c…
We consider a new class of light vectorlike exotics with fractional electric charge which do not come in complete representations of a grand unified gauge group, and are nevertheless compatible with gauge coupling unification and other predictions from Grand Unified Theories. Such states naturally arise in orbifold constructions of the heterotic string. Some aspects of their phenomenology and the consequences for the LHC are explored.
We address the problem of a search at the LHC for a neutralino whose mass is around 10 GeV, i.e. in the range of interest for present data of direct search for dark matter particles in the galactic halo. This light neutralino is here implemented in an effective Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model at the electroweak scale without requirement of a gaugino-mass unification at a grand unification scale. Within this model we select a representative benchmark and determine its prospects of reconstructing the main features of the model at different stages of the LHC runs.
In this letter we consider the consequences for the LHC of light vector-like exotica with fractional electric charge. It is shown that such states are found in orbifold constructions of the heterotic string. Moreover, these exotica are consistent with gauge coupling unification at one loop, even though they do not come in complete multiplets of SU(5).
In this paper we study an SO(10) SUSY GUT with Yukawa unification for the third generation. We perform a global chi^2 analysis given to obtain the GUT boundary conditions consistent with 11 low energy observables, including the top, bottom and tau masses. We assume a universal mass, m_{16}, for squarks and sleptons and a universal gaugino mass, M_{1/2}. We then analyze the phenomenological consequences for the LHC for 15 benchmark models with fixed m_{16} = 20 TeV and with varying values of the gluino mass. The goal of the present work is to (i) evaluate the lower bound on the gluino mass in o…
The effective Higgs theories at the TeV scale in supersymmetric $SU(5)$ grand unification models are systematically derived. Restricted to extensions on $\mathbf{5}_{H}$ containing the Higgs sector we show that only two types of real (vector-like) models and one type of chiral model are found to be consistent with perturbative grand unification. While the chiral model has been excluded by the LHC data, the fate of perturbative unification will be uniquely determined by the two classes of vector-like models.
The Critical Pomeron solution of high-energy unitarity leads to a unique underlying massless field theory that might be the origin of the Standard Model. A color sextet quark sector - producing both electroweak symmetry breaking and dark matter - is added to QCD to saturate asymptotic freedom. The sextet sector is then embedded uniquely in ``QUD'' - an anomaly free, just asymptotically free, massless SU(5) theory with elementary lepton and triplet quark sectors very close to the Standard Model. A multi-regge bound-state S-Matrix is constructed using infra-red divergent scaling reggeon interact…
In the family grand unification models (fGUTs), we propose that gauge U(1)'s beyond the minimal GUT gauge group are family gauge symmetries. For the symmetry $L_μ-L_τ$, i.e. $Q_{2}-Q_{3}$ in our case, to be useful for the LHC anomaly, we discuss an SU(9) fGUT and also present an example in Georgi's SU(11) fGUT.
We consider Grand Unified Theories based on $SO(10)$ which originate from string/$M$ theory on $G_2$ manifolds or Calabi-Yau spaces with discrete symmetries. In this framework we are naturally led to a novel solution of the doublet-triplet splitting problem previously considered by Dvali which involves an extra vector-like Standard Model family and light, but weakly coupled colour triplets. These additional states are predicted to be accessible at the LHC and also induce R-parity violation. Gauge coupling unification occurs with a larger GUT coupling.
The concept of chirality is extended to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and the mu term is forbidden by a gauged U(1)' symmetry. R-parity automatically emerges after symmetry breaking, suppressing proton decay and protecting the LSP. Exotics charged under the SM pose a challenge to traditional SU(5) unification, but unification is still implemented in deconstructed GUTs. Because of the multitude of additional states to the MSSM, the Z' has a large width, and the SM background, neglected in previous theoretical studies, becomes important for Z' discovery. As a result, the LHC r…
