W. McKay,Phys. Rev.
An exact expression for the leading-order (LO) gluon distribution function $G(x,Q^2)=xg(x,Q^2)$ from the DGLAP evolution equation for the proton structure function $F_2^{γp}(x,Q^2)$ for deep inelastic $γ^* p$ scattering has recently been obtained [M. M. Block, L. Durand and D. W. McKay, Phys. Rev. D{\bf 79}, 014031, (2009)] for massless quarks, using Laplace transformation techniques. Here, we develop a fast and accurate numerical inverse Laplace transformation algorithm, required to invert the Laplace transforms needed to evaluate $G(x,Q^2)$, and compare it to the exact solution. We obtain accuracies of less than 1 part in 1000 over the entire $x$ and $Q^2$ spectrum. Since no analytic Laplace inversion is possible for next-to-leading order (NLO) and higher orders, this numerical algorithm will enable one to obtain accurate NLO (and NNLO) gluon distributions, using only experimental measurements of $F_2^{γp}(x,Q^2)$.
The contribution of crossed gluon fields in flux tubes connecting quarks to the proton spin is calculated. The calculations are performed following non-perturbative Heisenberg's quantization technique. In our approach a proton is considered as consisting of three quarks connected by three flux tubes. The flux tubes contain color longitudinal electric and transversal electric and magnetic fields. The transversal fields causes the appearance of the angular momentum density. The dimensionless relation between the angular momentum and the mass of the gluon fields is obtained. The contribution to p…
In a recent article we were considering a possibility that inside a proton and, more generally, inside hadrons there could be additional partons - tensor-gluons, which carry a part of the proton momentum. Tensor-gluons have zero electric charge, like gluons, but have a larger spin. Therefore we call them tensor-gluons. The nonzero density of tensor-gluons can be generated by the emission of tensor-gluons by gluons. Tensor-gluons can further split into the pairs of tensor-gluons through a different channels. To describe all these processes one should know the general splitting probabilities for…
We obtain the gluon parton distribution functions (PDFs) in the proton within the extended light-front holographic QCD framework, where the proton couples with the spin-two Pomeron in Anti-de Sitter space, together with constraints imposed by the Veneziano model. The gluon helicity asymmetry, after satisfying the perturbative QCD constraints at small and large longitudinal momentum regions, agrees with existing experimental measurements. The polarized gluon distribution is consistent with global analyses. We predict the gluon helicity contribution to the proton spin, $ΔG=0.221^{+0.056}_{-0.044…
The leading order single inclusive soft gluon production in high energy proton-nucleus (pA) collisions has been studied by various approaches for more than two decades. The first correction due to the gluon saturation in proton was analytically attempted recently through a diagrammatic approach in which only partial results were obtained. An important feature of the first saturation correction is that it includes both initial state and final state interactions. In this paper, we present the complete result derived from the Color Glass Condensate framework. Our approach is to analytically solve…
We further consider a possibility that inside the proton and, more generally, inside the hadrons, there are additional partons - tensor gluons, which can carry a part of the proton momentum. The tensorgluons have zero electric charge, like gluons, but have a larger spin. Inside the proton a nonzero density of the tensorgluons can be generated by the emission of tensorgluons by gluons. The last mechanism is typical for non-Abelian tensor gauge theories. The process of gluon splitting suggests that part of the proton momentum that was carried by neutral partons is shared between vector and tenso…
Gauge theories play a fundamental role in particle physics, nuclear physics, and cosmology. The basic idea of these theories is that the Lagrangian density should be invariant under some transformations. Lagrangian invariance implies a certain freedom in defining gauge fields. In this study, the standard path integral quantization formalism is used. Gauge degrees of freedom manifest themselves in the difficulties in obtaining gauge field propagators. For a consistent quantization, it is necessary to eliminate non-physical gauge degrees of freedom. The standard procedure is to break the gauge s…
The modification of quark- and gluon-initiated jets in the quark-gluon plasma produced in heavy-ion collisions is a long-standing question that has not yet received a definitive answer from experiments. In particular, the size of the modifications in the quark-gluon plasma differs between theoretical models. Therefore a fully data-driven technique is crucial for an unbiased extraction of the quark and gluon jet spectra and substructure. Corroborating past results, I demonstrate the capability of a fully data-driven technique called topic modeling in separating quark and gluon contributions to …
The different modifications of quark- and gluon-initiated jets in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) produced in heavy-ion collisions is a long-standing question that has not yet received a definitive answer from experiments. In particular, the relative sizes of the modification of quark and gluon jets differ between theoretical models. Therefore, a fully data-driven technique is crucial for an unbiased extraction of the quark and gluon jet spectra and substructure. We perform a proof-of-concept study based on proton-proton and heavy-ion collision events from the \textsc{Pyquen} generator with stati…
The quantum statistical parton distributions approach proposed more than one decade ago is revisited by considering a larger set of recent and accurate Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) experimental results. It enables us to improve the description of the data by means of a new determination of the parton distributions. We will see that a large gluon polarization emerges, giving a significant contribution to the proton spin.
We investigate the dependence of the deep inelastic proton structure function $F_L(x, Q^2)$ on different forms of the transverse momentum dependent (TMD, or unintegrated) gluon distribution. We present a comparison of theoretical results with the latest experimental data taken by the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations at HERA. We demonstrate that these data, despite of having quite large uncertainties, can test different kinds of the gluon TMD in a proton. Moreover, different phenomenological models at low $x$ could be tested by future experiments on deep inelastic scattering.
The gluon content of the proton is embodied by the unintegrated gluon distribution (UGD), which has universal validity. In literature many models of UGD have been proposed so far. The polarized $ρ$-meson leptoproduction at HERA offers a nowadays unexplored testfield to discriminate among existing models of UGD, via the comparison with theoretical predictions formulated in the $κ$-factorization approach.
We propose a new model for a homogeneous description of hadron-hadron and hadron-nucleus collisions, the Gluon Exchange Model, fundamentally based on color octet (gluon) exchange. In proton-proton collisions we provide an exact description of the final state proton and neutron spectrum including the proton diffractive peak. In proton-nucleus reactions we find that the projectile proton diquark cannot survive in more than about half of multiple proton-nucleon processes and consequently must be very frequently disintegrated, leading to long transfers of baryon number over rapidity space.
We show that the diffractive forward production of two quarkonia, especially the $χ_{cJ}$ and $η_c$ states, in proton-proton or proton-ion collisions can access the Weizsäcker-Williams gluon Wigner distribution of the proton. We use the hybrid factorization approach where the collinear, double gluon PDF is applied for one of the protons and the $k_T$-dependent (Wigner or GTMD) distribution for the other. The production of quarkonia is treated in the NRQCD framework. A particularly concise formula is obtained for double $χ_{J=1}$ production.
