It is well known that a non-universal $Z^\prime$ induces tree-level FCNC which are severely constrained by experiment, most notably meson mixing. We point out that there is a class of models, with a down-quark mass matrix of the Georgi-Jarlskog form, in which the FCNC in the down-type quark sector vanish or are strongly suppressed. The largest FCNC in these models would occur in the $tc$ transition with a strength comparable to $V_{ts}$.
$B_s - \bar B_s$ mixing has been measured recently by D0 and CDF. The range predicted in the standard model is consistent with data. However, the standard model central values for $ΔM_{B_s}$ and also $ΔM_ {B_d}$ are away from the data which may be indications of new physics. Using the observed values of $ΔM_{B_s}$ and $ΔM_{B_d}$ we study general constraints on flavor changing $Z^\prime$ interactions. In models with non-universal $Z^\prime$ couplings we find that significant enhancements over the standard model are still possible in the rare decay modes $B\to X_s τ^+ τ^-$, $B\to X_s ν\bar ν$ an…
The BaBar and Belle collaborations have recently reported evidence for $D^0-\bar D^0$ mixing. This measurement provides the first significant constraint on FCNC in the up-quark sector for non-universal $Z^\prime$ models. Attributing the observed $D-\bar D$ mixing to new physics, we comment on the resulting rare $D$ and $t$ decays. We also show that a CP violating semileptonic asymmetry as large as $\sim 30%$ is allowed by the experimental results.
We study various FCNC involving heavy quarks in the Standard Model (SM) with a sequential fourth generation. After imposing $B\to X_sγ$, $B\to X_sl^+l^-$ and $Z\to b\bar{b}$ constraints, we find ${\cal B}(Z\to s\bar{b}+\bar{s}b)$ can be enhanced by an order of magnitude to $10^{-7}$, while $t\to cZ, cH$ decays can reach $10^{-6}$, which are orders of magnitude higher than in SM. However, these rates are still not observable for the near future. With the era of LHC approaching, we focus on FCNC decays involving fourth generation $b^\prime$ and $t^\prime$ quarks. We calculate the rates for loop in…
In the context of the 331 models, we consider constraints on the extra neutral boson $Z^{\prime}$ predicted by the model, where three different quark family assignments are identified. Using the ansatz of Matsuda as an specific texture for the quark mass matrices, we obtain allowed regions associated with the Z-Z' mixing angle, the mass of the $Z^{\prime}$ boson and the parameter $β$ which determines different 331 models. The $Z_{1}$ and $Z_{2}$ decays with and without flavor changing are also considered. The flavor changing decays of the $Z_{1}$ boson into quarks at tree level are highly supp…
We show that in the minimal 3-3-1 model the flavor changing neutral currents (FCNCs) do not impose necessarily strong constraints on the mass of the $Z^\prime$ of the model if we also consider the neutral scalar contributions to such processes, like the neutral mesons mass difference and rare semileptonic decays. We first obtain numerical values for all the mixing matrices of the model i.e., the unitary matrices that rotate the left- and right-handed quarks in each charge sector which give the correct mass of all the quarks and the CKM mixing matrix. Then, we find that there is a range of para…
Motivated by the recent anomalies in $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^-$ transitions, we explore a minimal $Z^\prime$ scenario, in which the $Z^\prime$ boson has a flavour-changing coupling to charm and top quarks and a flavour-conserving coupling to muons. It is found that such a $Z^\prime$ boson can explain the current $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^-$ anomalies, while satisfying other flavour and collider constraints simultaneously. The $Z^\prime$ boson can be as light as few hundreds GeV. In this case, the $t \to c μ^+ μ^-$ decay and the $tZ^\prime$ associated production at the LHC could provide sensitive probe…
We study the quark sector of the universal seesaw model with SU(2)$_L$ $\times$ SU(2)$_R$ $\times$ $U(1)$.The model incorporates the seesaw mechanism with the vector-like quarks (VLQs). The purpose of this work is to study the model with the effective theory. After integrating the heavy five VLQs, we derive the effective theory with four up-type quark and three down type quark. In this work, the FCNC of Z boson for top quark and top$^\prime$ quark is derived.
We consider scenarios with a heavy $Z^\prime$ gauge boson with flavour non-universal quark and lepton couplings with the goal to illustrate how the cancellation of gauge anomalies generated by the additional U(1)$^\prime$ gauge symmetry would imply correlations between FCNC processes in the quark sector, in the lepton sector and most interestingly between quark flavour and lepton flavour violating processes. We present scenarios with only left-handed flavour-violating $Z^\prime$ couplings and those with also right-handed flavour-violating couplings. These are characterized by a small number of…
The flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) transitions t --> q'H and t --> q'V_i (V_i=γ, g, Z) are studied in the context of the effective Lagrangian approach. We focus on the scenario in which these decays are predominantly induced by new physics effects arising from the Yukawa sector extended with dimension-six SU_L(2) X U_Y(1)-invariant operators, which generate the most general CP-even and CP-odd tq'H vertex at the tree level. For the unknown coefficients, we assume a slightly modified version of the Cheng-Sher ansatz. We found that the branching ratio for the Higgs-mediated FCNC t--> q'V_…
We analyse $Z^\prime$ contributions to FCNC processes at the one-loop level. In analogy to the CKM matrix we introduce two $3\times3$ unitary matrices $\hatΔ_d(Z^\prime)$ and $\hatΔ_u(Z^\prime)$ which are also hermitian. They govern the flavour interactions mediated by $Z^\prime$ between down-quarks and up-quarks, respectively, with $\hatΔ_d(Z^\prime)=\hatΔ_u(Z^\prime)\equiv \hatΔ_L(Z^\prime)$ for left-handed currents due to the unbroken $\text{SU(2)}_L$ gauge symmetry. This assures the suppression of these contributions to all $Z^\prime$ mediated FCNC processes at the one-loop level. As, in c…
A non-universal interaction associated with top quark induces flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC) among light fermions. The size of the FCNC effect depends crucially on the dynamics of the fermion mass generation. In this paper, we study the effect of a non-universal interaction on $Z b b$, $Z b s$ {\it etc}, by using an effective lagrangian technique and assuming the quark mass matrices in the form of a generalized Fritzsch ansatz. We point out that if fitting $R_b$ to the LEP data within $1 σ$, the induced FCNC couplings are very close to the experimental limits.
We study phenomenological constraints on a simple $3-3-1$ model with flavor violating Yukawa couplings. Both triplets Higgs couple to leptons and quarks, which generates flavor violating signals in both lepton and quark sectors. We have shown that this model can allow for large Higgs lepton flavor-violating rate decay $h \rightarrow μτ$ and also can be reached to perfect agreements with other experimental constraints such as $τ\rightarrow μγ$ and $(g-2)_μ$. The contributions of flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) couplings, Higgs-quark-quark couplings, to the mesons mixing are investigated.…
We analyze a new class of FCNC processes, the $f \to f^{\prime} \, \barγ$ decays of a fermion $f$ into a lighter (same-charge) fermion $f^{\prime}$ plus a {\it massless} neutral vector boson, a {\it dark photon} $\barγ$. A massless dark photon does not interact at tree level with observable fields, and the $f \!\to\! f^{\prime} \, \barγ$ decay presents a characteristic signature where the final fermion $f^{\prime}$ is balanced by a {\it massless invisible} system. Models recently proposed to explain the exponential spread in the standard-model Yukawa couplings can indeed foresee an extra unbro…
The most general two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM) includes potentially large sources of flavor changing neutral currents (FCNCs) that must be suppressed in order to achieve a phenomenologically viable model. The flavor alignment ansatz postulates that all Yukawa coupling matrices are diagonal when expressed in the basis of mass-eigenstate fermion fields, in which case tree-level Higgs mediated FCNCs are eliminated. In this work, we explore models with the flavor alignment condition imposed at a very high energy scale, which results in the generation of Higgs-mediated FCNCs via renormalization gr…
Aspects of top quark physics can be studied at a future Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC). In particular, Flavor-Changing Neutral Current interactions (FCNC) of the top quark can be studied even with a center-of-mass energy from $\sqrt{s}\gtrsim m_t$ to $\sqrt{s}=240$ GeV, through the production a single top quark in association with a charm quark, which can arise in several scenarios of new physics. We explore here this signal within the Left-Right Mirror Model, which is a Left-Right model that includes mirror fermions; this model is motivated as a possible solution to the strong CP …
We investigate the attempt using flavor violation gauge interaction in the up sector to explain the LHCb recently observed large $ΔA_{CP}$ ($A_{CP}(D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-})-A_{CP}(D^{0}\to π^{+}π^{-})$). We study an Abelian model that only right-handed up quarks is charged under it and the 1-3 coupling is maximized. The simultaneous 1-3 2-3 mixing is realized by a quark mixing of 1-2 generation. Given the easy identification of top quark, the model can be directly tested by $ΔF=1$ and $ΔF=2$ processes at the hadron colliders as associated top production $g c \to t Z^{\prime}$ or same-sign top scat…
Comparing the theoretically predicted and measured values of the mass difference of the $B^{0}_{s}$ system, we estimate the lower bound on the mass of the $Z^{\prime}$ boson of models based on the $SU(3)_{c} \otimes SU(3)_{L} \otimes U(1)_X$ gauge group. By assuming zero-texture approaches of the quark mass matrices, we find the ratio of the measured value to the theoretical prediction from the Standard Model and the $Z^{\prime}$ contribution from the 331 models of the mass difference of the $B^{0}_{s}$ system. We find lower bounds on the $Z^{\prime}$ mass ranging between 1 TeV and 30 TeV for …
We develop a ${\rm SU}(3)_C\otimes {\rm SU}(3)_L\otimes {\rm U}(1)_X$ model where the number of fermion generations is fixed by cancellation of gauge anomalies, being a type of 3-3-1 model with new charged leptons. Similarly to the economical 3-3-1 models, symmetry breaking is achieved effectively with two scalar triplets so that the spectrum of scalar particles at the TeV scale contains just two CP even scalars, one of which is the recently discovered Higgs boson, plus a charged scalar. Such a scalar sector is simpler than the one in the Two Higgs Doublet Model, hence more attractive for phen…
We analyze flavor-changing-neutral-current (FCNC) effects in the $b\to s$ transitions that are induced by family non-universal $U(1)'$ gauge symmetries. After systematically developing the necessary formalism, we present a correlated analysis for the $ΔB =1, 2$ processes. We adopt a model-independent approach in which we only require family-universal charges for the first and second generations and small fermion mixing angles. We analyze the constraints on the resulting parameter space from $B_s - \bar B_s$ mixing and the time-dependent CP asymmetries of the penguin-dominated $B_d \to (π, ϕ, η…
We perform a study of the new physics effects in semileptonic FCNC processes within a low-energy approximation of the anomaly-free supersymmetic extension of the SM with additional $Z'$ vector field. The key feature of the model is the non-diagonal structure of $Z'$ couplings to fermions, which is parameterized by few new-physics parameters in addition to well-known mixing matrices for quarks and leptons in the SM. We not only consider CP-conserving scenarios with real parameters, but also account for possible CP violation due to new physical weak phases. We analyse the dependence of the $b\to…
We study the implications of flavour-changing neutral currents (FCNC's) in a model with the $SU(2)_l\times SU(2)_h\times U(1)_Y$ electroweak gauge symmetry for several anomalies appearing in $b\to s \ell\bar \ell$ induced $B$ decays in LHCb data. In this model, $SU(2)_l$ and $SU(2)_h$ govern the left-handed fermions in the first two generations and the third generation, respectively. The physical $Z$ and $Z'$ generate the $b\to s$ transition at tree level, leading to additional contributions to the $b \to s$ semileptonic operators ${\cal O}_{9,10}$. We find that although $B_s$-$\bar B_s$ mixin…
$Z^\prime$ models belong to the ones that can most easily explain the anomalies in $b\to s μ^+μ^-$ transitions. However, such an explanation by a single $Z^\prime$ gauge boson, as done in the literature, is severly constrained by the $B^0_s-\bar B_s^0$ mixing. Also the recent finding, hat the mass differences $ΔM_s$, $ΔM_d$, the CP-violating parameter $\varepsilon_K$, and the mixing induced CP-asymmetries $S_{ψK_S}$ and $S_{ψϕ}$ can be simultaneously well described within the SM without new physics (NP) contributions, is a challenge for $Z^\prime$ models with a single $Z^\prime$ contributing a…
The axial-vector Ward-Takahashi identity is used to derive mass formulae for neutral pseudoscalar mesons. Flavour symmetry breaking entails non-ideal flavour content for these states. Adding that the η^\prime is not a Goldstone mode, exact chiral-limit relations are developed from the identity. They connect the dressed-quark propagator to the topological susceptibility. It is confirmed that in the chiral limit the η^\prime mass is proportional to the matrix element which connects this state to the vacuum via the topological susceptibility. The implications of the mass formulae are illustrated …
