We elucidate the role of time scales that determine heavy quark dynamics in the QGP. Quark-antiquark potentials extracted from the lattice are used to demonstrate the existence of open heavy flavor bound-state solutions in the vicinity of the critical temperature, and their light cone wavefunctions are obtained. We use these wavefunctions to calculate the in-medium modification of the heavy quark distribution and decay probabilities. For the case of high transverse momentum D or B mesons traversing the QGP, we combine the new meson formation and dissociation mechanism with the traditional parton-level charm and beauty quark quenching to obtain predictions for the heavy meson and non-photonic electron suppression in Cu+Cu and Pb+Pb collisions at RHIC and the LHC, respectively.
We find the light-cone wavefunction representations of the Sivers and Boer-Mulders distribution functions. A necessary condition for the existence of these representations is that the light-cone wavefunctions have complex phases. We induce the complex phases by incorporating the final-state interactions into the light-cone wavefunctions. For the scalar and axial-vector diquark models for nucleon, we calculate explicitly the Sivers and Boer-Mulders distribution functions from the light-cone wavefunction representations. We obtain the results that the Sivers distribution function has the opposit…
Light-cone Fock-state wavefunctions encode the properties of a hadron in terms of its fundamental quark and gluon degrees of freedom. A recent experiment at Fermilab, E791, demonstrates that the color coherence and shape of light-cone wavefunctions in longitudinal momentum fraction can be directly measured by the high energy diffractive jet dissociation of hadrons on nuclei. Given the proton's light-cone wavefunctions, one can compute not only the quark and gluon distributions measured in deep inelastic lepton-proton scattering, but also the multi-parton correlations which control the distribu…
The light-cone Fock-state representation of QCD encodes the properties of a hadrons in terms of frame-independent wavefunctions. A new type of jet production reaction, "self-resolving diffractive interactions" can provide direct information on the light-cone wavefunctions of hadrons in terms of their quark and gluon degrees of freedom as well as the composition of nuclei in terms of their nucleon and mesonic degrees of freedom. The relation of the intrinsic sea to the light-cone wavefunctions is discussed. The decomposition of light-cone spin is illustrated for the quantum fluctuations of an e…
We present a systematic study of the B meson light-cone wavefunctions in QCD in the heavy-quark limit. We construct model-independent formulae for the light-cone wavefunctions in terms of independent dynamical degrees of freedom, which exactly satisfy the QCD equations of motion and constraints from heavy-quark symmetry. The results demonstrate novel behaviors of longitudinal as well as transverse momentum distribution in the B mesons.
The light-cone Fock representation encodes the bound-state quark and gluon properties of hadrons, including their helicity and flavor correlations, in terms of universal process-independent and frame-independent wavefunctions. It also provides a physical factorization scheme for separating hard and soft contributions in both exclusive and inclusive hard processes. A new type of jet production reaction, ''self-resolving diffractive interactions'' can provide direct information on the light-cone wavefunctions of hadrons in terms of their QCD degrees of freedom as well as the composition of nucle…
We discuss the B-meson light-cone wavefunction relevant for QCD factorization approach for exclusive B-meson decays. We derive the operator product expansion for the B-meson light-cone wavefunction, taking into account the local composite operators of dimension less than 6 and calculating the radiative corrections at order α_s for the corresponding Wilson coefficients. The result embodies peculiar UV and IR behaviors of the B-meson light-cone wavefunction, the Sudakov-type double logarithmic effects and the mixing of the multiparticle states with additional gluons inside the B meson. The forme…
We describe the light-cone wavefunction in the saturation regime in terms of the density of gluons per unit of transverse phase space, the occupation number, and in terms of the color charge correlator. The simple McLerran- Venugopalan model gives what are claimed to be general results for the phase space gluon density, but it does not well describe the general case for the charge correlator. We derive the general momentum dependence and rapidity dependence of the color charge correlator which exhibits strong color shielding. A simplel physical picture which leads to these general results is d…
The pion cloud renormalises the light-cone wavefunction of the nucleon which is measured in hard, exclusive photon-nucleon reactions. We discuss the leading twist contributions to high-energy exclusive reactions taking into account both the pion cloud and perturbative QCD physics. The nucleon's electromagnetic form-factor at high $Q^2$ is proportional to the bare nucleon probability $Z$ and the cross-sections for hard (real at large angle or deeply virtual) Compton scattering are proportional to $Z^2$. Our present knowledge of the pion-nucleon system is consistent with $Z = 0.7 \pm 0.2$. If we…
The diffractive dissociation of a hadron at high energies, by either Coulomb or Pomeron exchange, has a natural description in QCD as the materialization of the projectile's light-cone wavefunctions; in particular, the diffractive dissociation of a meson, baryon, or photon into high transverse momentum jets measures the shape and other features of the projectile's distribution amplitude. Diffractive dissociation can thus test fundamental properties of QCD, including color transparency and intrinsic charm. All of these effects have an impact on exclusive decays of $B$ mesons and the study of $C…
The unpolarized, helicity and transversity distributions of quarks in the proton are calculated in the overlap representation of light-cone wavefunctions truncated to the lowest order Fock-space components with three valence quarks. The three distributions at the hadronic scale satisfy an interesting relation consistent with the Soffer inequality. Results are derived in a relativistic quark model including radiative corrections up to the next-to-leading order. Predictions for the double transverse-spin asymmetry in Drell-Yan dilepton production initiated by proton-antiproton collisions are pre…
A fundamental question in QCD is the non-perturbative structure of hadrons at the amplitude level--not just the single-particle flavor, momentum, and helicity distributions of the quark constituents, but also the multi-quark, gluonic, and hidden-color correlations intrinsic to hadronic and nuclear wavefunctions. The light-cone Fock-state representation of QCD encodes the properties of a hadrons in terms of frame-independent wavefunctions. A number of applications are discussed, including semileptonic B decays, deeply virtual Compton scattering, and dynamical higher twist effects in inclusive r…
We calculate the light-cone wavefunctions of the pion by solving the meson boundstate problem in a coarse transverse lattice gauge theory using DLCQ. A large-N_c approximation is made and the light-cone Hamiltonian expanded in massive dynamical fields at fixed lattice spacing. In contrast to earlier calculations, we include contributions from states containing many gluonic link-fields between the quarks. The Hamiltonian is renormalised by a combination of covariance conditions on boundstates and fitting the physical masses M_rho and M_pi, decay constant f_pi, and the string tension sigma. Good …
We give a complete representation of virtual Compton scattering $γ^* p \to γp$ at large initial photon virtuality $Q^2$ and small momentum transfer squared $t$ in terms of the light-cone wavefunctions of the target proton. We verify the identities between the skewed parton distributions $H(x,ζ,t)$ and $E(x,ζ,t)$ which appear in deeply virtual Compton scattering and the corresponding integrands of the Dirac and Pauli form factors $F_1(t)$ and $F_2(t)$ and the gravitational form factors $A_{q}(t)$ and $B_{q}(t)$ for each quark and anti-quark constituent. We illustrate the general formalism for t…
Quark and gluon distributions in the light-cone wavefunction of a high energy hadron or nucleus are calculated in the saturation regime. One loop calculations are performed explicitly using the equivalence between the parton distribution in the light-cone wavefunction and the production distribution of that parton in a current-nucleon (nucleus) scattering. We argue that, except for some overall numerical factors, the Weizsacker- Williams wavefunction correctly gives the physics of the gluon distribution in a light-cone wavefunction.
The matrix elements of electroweak currents which occur in exclusive decays of heavy hadrons are evaluated in the nonperturbative light-cone Fock representration. In general, each semileptonic exclusive decay amplitude receives two contributions, a diagonal $Δn = 0$ parton-number-conserving amplitude and a $Δn = -2$ contribution in which a quark and an antiquark from the initial hadron Fock state annihilate to the leptonic current. The general formalism can be used as a basis for systematic approximations to heavy hadron decay amplitudes such as hard perturbative QCD contributions. We illustra…
The light-cone Fock-state representation of QCD encodes the properties of a hadrons in terms of frame-independent wavefunctions, providing a systematic framework for evaluating structure functions, exclusive hadronic matrix elements, including time-like heavy hadron decay amplitudes, form factors, and deeply virtual Compton scattering. A new type of jet production reaction, "self-resolving diffractive interactions" can provide direct information on the light-cone wavefunctions of hadrons in terms of their quark and gluon degrees of freedom as well as the composition of nuclei in terms of their…
There exist an infinite number of exact small momentum fraction-$x$ boundary conditions on light-cone wavefunctions of bound states in gauge theory. They are necessary for finite expectation values of the invariant mass operator and relate components of the wavefunction from different Fock sectors. We illustrate their consequences by analyzing the small-$x$ quark Regge behavior of a heavy large-$N$ meson, finding power-law rise of unpolarized distributions. The polarized distribution changes sign and then vanishes with minus the unpolarized Regge intercept.
The meson-cloud model of the nucleon consisting of a system of three valence quarks surrounded by a meson cloud is applied to study the electroweak structure of the proton and neutron. Light-cone wavefunctions are derived for the dressed nucleon as pictured to be part of the time a bare nucleon and part of the time a baryon-meson system. Configurations are considered where the baryon can be a nucleon or a Δand the meson can be a pion as well as a vector meson such as the ρor the ω. An overall good description of the electroweak form factors is obtained. The contribution of the meson cloud is s…
We investigate the tree level multi-gluon components of the gluon light cone wavefunctions in the light cone gauge keeping the exact kinematics of the gluon emissions. We focus on the components with all helicities identical to the helicity of the incoming gluon. The recurrence relations for the gluon wavefunctions are derived. In the case when the virtuality of the incoming gluon is neglected the exact form of the multi-gluon wavefunction as well as the fragmentation function is obtained. Furthermore we analyze the 2 to N tree-level gluon scattering in the framework of light-front perturbatio…
The Color Glass Condensate (CGC) predicts the form of the nuclear wavefunction in QCD at very small x. Using this, we compute the wavefunction for the collision of two nuclei, infinitesimally in the forward light cone. We show that the Wigner transformation of this wavefunction generates rapidity dependent fluctuations around the boost invariant classical solution which describe the Glasma in the forward light cone.
A natural calculus for describing the bound-state structure of relativistic composite systems in quantum field theory is the light-front Fock expansion which encodes the properties of a hadrons in terms of a set of frame-independent n-particle wavefunctions. Light-front quantization in the doubly-transverse light-cone gauge has a number of remarkable advantages, including explicit unitarity, a physical Fock expansion, the absence of ghost degrees of freedom, and the decoupling properties needed to prove factorization theorems in high momentum transfer inclusive and exclusive reactions. A numbe…
We extract the light-cone wavefunctions of the rho meson using the HERA data on diffractive rho photoproduction. We find good agreement with predictions for the distribution amplitude based on QCD sum rules and from the lattice. We also find that the data prefer a transverse wavefunction with enhanced end-point contributions.
The ensemble of light-cone Fock wavefunctions $\{ψ_{n/H}(x_i,\vec k_{\perp i},λ_i)\}$ provides a conceptual basis for representing physical hadrons and nuclei in terms of their fundamental quark and gluon degrees of freedom. A number of applications of the light-cone formalism to QCD phenomenology are briefly reviewed, such as the origin of Regge behavior of polarized structure functions, the high momentum transfer behavior of exclusive reactions, the color transparency properties of diffractive vector meson photoproduction, and the behavior of quark distributions at large $x_{bj}$. The light-…
We study the hydrodynamic response to jet quenching in expanding quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and its signal in the resulting particle distribution. The ideal hydrodynamic simulations of the $γ$-jet events in heavy-ion collisions are performed in a full (3 + 1)-dimensional setup. The jet-induced Mach cone and the radial expansion of the background mutually push and distort each other. As a result, the particle emission is suppressed in the direction in which the radial flow is pushed back by the Mach cone when the jet path is an off-central one. This is the direct signal of hydrodynamic response t…
A strong suppression of non-photonic electrons in Au+Au collisions is observed at RHIC. This is in disagreement with the expected dominance of the energy loss via gluon radiation, which predicts a much weaker suppression of heavy flavours due to the dead cone effect. However, collisional energy loss is also important, as demonstrated recently by the Soft Colour Interaction Jet Quenching model. Based on this model we show that collisional energy loss of charm quarks gives a suppression of electrons of the observed magnitude, but the contribution from beauty decays, which dominates at intermedia…
I discuss several theoretical tools which are useful for analyzing perturbative and non-perturbative problems in quantum chromodynamics, including (a) the light-cone Fock expansion, (b) the effective charge $α_V$, (c) conformal symmetry, and (d) commensurate scale relations. Light-cone Fock-state wavefunctions encode the properties of a hadron in terms of its fundamental quark and gluon degrees of freedom. Given the proton's light-cone wavefunctions, one can compute not only the quark and gluon distributions measured in deep inelastic lepton-proton scattering, but also the multi-parton correla…
We calculate the proton's magnetic moment $μ_p$ and its axial-vector coupling $g_A$ as a function of its Dirac radius $R_1$ using a relativisitic three-quark model formulated on the light-cone. The relationship between $μ_p$ and $g_A$ is found to be independent of the assumed form of the light-cone wavefunction. At the physical radius $R_1=0.76$ fm, one obtains the experimental values for both $μ_p$ and $g_A$, and the helicity carried by the valence $u$ and $d$ quarks are each reduced by a factor $\simeq 0.75$ relative to their non-relativistic values. At large proton radius, $μ_p$ and $g_A$ a…
Light-cone quantization of gauge theories is discussed from two perspectives: as a calculational tool for representing hadrons as QCD bound-states of relativistic quarks and gluons, and as a novel method for simulating quantum field theory on a computer. A general non-perturbative method for numerically solving quantum field theories, `discretized light-cone quantization', is outlined. Both the bound-state spectrum and the corresponding relativistic wavefunctions can be obtained by matrix diagonalization and related techniques. Emphasis is put on the construction of the light-cone Fock basis a…
Leading twist light cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs) are key ingredients in calculating various hadronic amplitudes using light cone QCD sum rules. This work concentrates on calculating the leading twist LCDAs of P-wave heavy quarkonia. Quark model wavefunctions for the ground, first and second excited states of P-wave charmonia and bottomonia have been calculated, and are used for calculating the relevant LCDAs and leptonic decay constants.
Exclusive B decays can be factorized as convolutions of hard scattering amplitudes involving the weak interaction with universal hadron distribution amplitudes, thus providing a new QCD-based phenomenology. In addition, semi-leptonic decay amplitudes can be computed exactly in terms of the diagonal and off-diagonal overlap of hadronic light-cone wavefunctions. I review these formalisms and the essential QCD ingredients. canonical form of the light-cone wavefunctions, valid at low values of the transverse momenta, is presented. The existence of intrinsic charm Fock states in the B meson wavefun…
We have analyzed the $B\to π$ and $B_{s}\to K$ semileptonic form factors and $B\to Vγ(V=K^*,ρ,ω)$ processes in the light-cone QCD sum rules. In order to enhance the predictivity and reliability of numerical results the chiral-current correlator is employed and the twist-3 light-cone wavefunction can be effectively eliminated from the sum rules.
The suppression of hadron p_T spectra in high energy central heavy-ion collisions compared to proton-proton collisions, referred to as 'jet-quenching', is currently attributed to partonic energy loss in the hot medium created in the collision. The RHIC experiments show that at large enough p_T, hadron quenching is strong, and of similar magnitude for light and heavy flavours. This point is difficult to understand in a parton energy loss scenario, where the energy loss is believed to be dominantly radiative, and quantitatively different for light partons and heavy quarks: gluon radiation off a …
We calculate the lowest order charm and beauty parton distribution functions in and fragmentation functions into D and B mesons using the operator definitions of factorized perturbative QCD. In the vacuum, we find the leading corrections that arise from the structure of the final-state hadrons. Quark-antiquark potentials extracted from the lattice are employed to demonstrate the existence of open heavy flavor bound-state solutions in the QGP in the vicinity of the critical temperature. We provide first results for the in-medium modification of the heavy quark distribution and decay probabiliti…
Diffractive rho meson production has been identified as one of the important processes where saturation can be probed at a future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). A source of uncertainty in making predictions for this process lies within the assumed form of the meson light-cone wavefunction. We report here the results of reference [1] where a Regge-inspired dipole model was used to extract this wavefunction as well as the corresponding leading twist-2 Distribution Amplitude from the current accurate HERA data. In addition, we shall check the robustness of the conclusions in reference [1] by using …
A fundamental understanding of quantum chromodynamics, particularly at the amplitude level, is essential for progress in high energy physics. For example, the measurement and interpretation of the basic parameters of the electroweak theory and CP violation depends on an understanding of the dynamics and phase structure of exclusive B-meson decay amplitudes. In this review, I discuss a number of ways in which the required hadron wavefunctions can be measured (such as two-photon reactions and diffractive dissociation) or calculated from first principles. An important tool for describing relativi…
The B-meson light-cone wavefunctions, $Ψ_{\pm}(ω,z^2)$, are investigated up to the next-to-leading order in Fock state expansion in the heavy quark limit. In order to know the transverse momentum dependence of the B-meson wavefunctions with 3-particle Fock states' contributions, we make use of the relations between 2- and 3- particle wavefunctions derived from the QCD equations of motion and the heavy quark symmetry, especially two constraints derived from the gauge field equation of motion are employed. Our results show that the use of gluon equation of motion can give a constraint on the tra…
While strong attenuation of single particle production and particle correlations has provided convincing evidence for large parton energy loss in the QGP, its application to jet tomography has inherent limitations due to the inclusive nature of the measurements. Generalization of this suppression to full jet observables leads to an unbiased, more differential and thus powerful approach to determining the characteristics of the hot QCD medium created in high-energy nuclear collisions. In this article we report on recent theoretical progress in calculating jet shapes and the related jet cross se…
We discuss the light-cone quantization of gauge theories as a calculational tool for representing hadrons as QCD bound-states of relativistic quarks and gluons, and also as a novel method for simulating quantum field theory on a computer. The light-cone Fock state expansion of wavefunctions provides a precise definition of the parton model and a general calculus for hadronic matrix elements. We present several new applications of light-cone Fock methods, including calculations of exclusive weak decays of heavy hadrons, and intrinsic heavy-quark contributions to structure functions. Discretized…
We discuss a number of novel applications of Quantum Chromodynamics to nuclear structure and dynamics, such as the reduced amplitude formalism for exclusive nuclear amplitudes. We particularly emphasize the importance of light-cone Hamiltonian and Fock State methods as a tool for describing the wavefunctions of composite relativistic many-body systems and their interactions. We also show that the use of covariant kinematics leads to nontrivial corrections to the standard formulae for the axial, magnetic, and quadrupole moments of nucleons and nuclei.
In the light-cone Fock state expansion of gauge theories, the influence of non-valence states may be significant in precision non-perturbative calculations. In two-dimensional gauge theories, it is shown how these states modify the behaviour of the light-cone wavefunction in significant ways relative to endemic choices of variational ansatz. Similar effects in four-dimensional gauge theories are briefly discussed.
Several topics in QCD are reviewed, including: the light-cone Fock state representation, which encodes the flavor, spin and other quark and gluon correlations of hadrons in the form of universal process-independent amplitudes; the light-cone factorization scheme for inclusive and exclusive processes; the application of the light-cone formalism to semi-leptonic B decay amplitudes; self-resolving diffractive interactions as a tool for measuring light-cone wavefunctions; and the use of conformal symmetry as a template for QCD predictions, such as commensurate scale relations, which relate observa…
We study the quark Wigner distributions of the pion meson which are the phase-space distributions containing the most general one-parton information.Using the pion wavefunctions deduced from a light-cone quark model, we calculate the Wigner distributions of the unpolarized, longitudinally polarized and transversely polarized quarks inside the pion meson via the Fock-state overlap representation, respectively. We present the numerical results of the transverse Wigner distributions in which the longitudinal momentum fraction is integrated out. The mixed Wigner distributions as functions of $b_y$ …
We apply the light-front quantization to the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with the vector interaction, and compute vector meson's mass and light-cone wavefunction in the large N limit. Following the same procedure as in the previous analyses for scalar and pseudo-scalar mesons, we derive the bound-state equations of a q-qbar system in the vector channel. We include the lowest order effects of the vector interaction. The resulting transverse and longitudinal components of the bound-state equation look different from each other. But eventually after imposing an appropriate cutoff, one finds these t…
We study dynamics of a QGP fluid induced by energetic partons propagating through it. We construct a (3+1)-dimensional QGP-fluid+Jet model. When a jet traverses a uniform fluid, it induces a Mach cone structure of energy density distribution and a vortex ring surrounding a path of the jet. When a pair of jets travels through a radially expanding fluid, low momentum particles are dominantly induced at large angles from the quenched jet. This result is qualitatively consistent with observation of the CMS Collaboration at LHC.
A fundamental goal in QCD is to understand the non-perturbative structure of hadrons at the amplitude level--not just the single-particle flavor, momentum, and helicity distributions of the quark constituents, but also the multi-quark, gluonic, and hidden-color correlations intrinsic to hadronic and nuclear wavefunctions. A natural calculus for describing the bound-state structure of relativistic composite systems in quantum field theory is the light-front Fock expansion which encodes the properties of a hadrons in terms of a set of frame-independent n-particle wavefunctions. Light-front quant…
I review progress made in solving gauge theories such as collinear quantum chromodynamics using light-cone Hamiltonian methods. I also show how the light-cone Fock expansion for hadron wavefunctions can be used to compute operator matrix elements such as decay amplitudes, form factors, distribution amplitudes, and structure functions, and how it provides a tool for exploring novel features of QCD. I also review commensurate scale relations, leading-twist identities which relate physical observables to each other, thus eliminating renormalization scale and scheme ambiguities in perturbative QCD…
In this talk, I review the use of the light-cone Fock expansion as a tractable and consistent description of relativistic many-body systems and bound states in quantum field theory and as a frame-independent representation of the physics of the QCD parton model. Nonperturbative methods for computing the spectrum and LC wavefunctions are briefly discussed. The light-cone Fock state representation of hadrons also describes quantum fluctuations containing intrinsic gluons, strangeness, and charm, and, in the case of nuclei, "hidden color". Fock state components of hadrons with small transverse si…
We study the correlation between the quark spin and orbital angular momentum inside the pion meson. Similar to the case inside the nucleon, the longitudinal spin-orbit correlation $C_z^{q/π}$ in pion meson can be expressed in terms of the corresponding generalized parton distributions (GPDs) and generalized transverse momentum distributions (GTMDs). This provides new information about the spin structure of the pion. Using the wavefunctions of the pion in the light-cone quark model and the overlap representation for GPDs and GTMDs, we present the analytical results for the quark longitudinal sp…
We present a short review on the properties of heavy and light mesons' light-cone wavefunctions (LCWFs), and their distribution amplitudes (DAs). The B meson LCWFs can be treated by taking the heavy quark limit ($m_b\to\infty$) and by using the heavy quark effective theory. Furthermore, we propose a simple model for the B meson WFs with 3-particle Fock states' contributions, whose behaviors are controlled by two parameters $\barΛ$ and $δ$. Using such model, the form factors $F^{B\toπ}_{+,0,T}$ and $F^{B\to K}_{+,0,T}$ in large recoil region are studied up to ${\cal O}(1/m_b^2)$ within the $k_T…
We derive the distribution of energy and momentum transmitted from a primary fast parton and its medium-induced bremsstrahlung gluons to a thermalized quark-gluon plasma. Our calculation takes into account the important and thus far neglected effects of quantum interference between the resulting color currents. We use our result to obtain the rate at which energy is absorbed by the medium as a function of time and find that the rate is modified by the quantum interference between the primary parton and secondary gluons. This Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal type interference persists for time scales …
We calculate the soft gluon radiation spectrum off heavy quarks (HQs) interacting with light quarks (LQs) beyond small angle scattering (eikon- ality) approximation and thus generalize the dead-cone formula of heavy quarks extensively used in the literatures of Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) phenomenology to the large scattering angle regime which may be im- portant in the energy loss of energetic heavy quarks in the deconfined Quark-Gluon Plasma medium. In the proper limits, we reproduce all the relevant existing formulae for the gluon radiation distribution off energetic quarks, heavy or light use…
In this work we investigate $q{\bar q}$ spectra and wavefunctions of light front transverse lattice Hamiltonians that result from different methods of formulating fermions on the transverse lattice. We adopt the one link approximation for the transverse lattice and Discrete Light Cone Quantization to handle longitudinal dynamics. We perform a detailed study of the continuum limit of DLCQ and associated techniques to manage severe light front infrared divergences. We explore the effects of various parameters of the theory, especially, the strength of the helicity-flip interaction and the link m…
Exclusive and semi-exclusive processes, the diffractive dissociation of hadrons into jets, and hard diffractive processes such as vector meson leptoproduction provide new testing grounds for QCD and essential information on the structure of light-cone wavefunctions of hadrons, particularly the pion distribution amplitude. I review the basic features of the leading-twist QCD predictions and the problems and challenges of studying QCD at the amplitude level. The application of the light-cone formalism to the exclusive semi-leptonic decay of heavy hadrons is also discussed.
We present a detailed comparison of a variety of predictions for diffractive light vector meson production with the data collected at the HERA collider. All our calculations are performed within a dipole model framework and make use of different models for the meson light-cone wavefunction. There are no free parameters in any of the scenarios we consider. Generally we find good agreement with the data using rather simple Gaussian motivated wavefunctions in conjunction with dipole cross-sections which have been fitted to other data.
Recently, Diakonov and Petrov have suggested a formalism in the Relativistic Mean Field Approximation allowing one to derive the 3-, 5-, 7-,... quark wavefunctions for the octet, decuplet and antidecuplet. They have used this formalism and many strong approximations in order to estimate the exotic Theta+ width. The latter has been estimated to ~4 MeV. Besides they obtained that the 5-quark component of the nucleon is about 50% of its 3-quark component meaning that relativistic effects are not small. We have improved the technique by taking into account some relativistic corrections and conside…
The light-front representation of quantum chromodynamics provides a frame-independent, quantum-mechanical representation of hadrons at the amplitude level, capable of encoding their multi-quark, hidden-color and gluon momentum, helicity, and flavor correlations in the form of universal process-independent hadron wavefunctions. The universality and frame-independence of the LCWF's thus allow a profound connection between diffractive dissociation, hard scattering exclusive processes such as elastic form factors, two-photon reactions, and heavy hadron decays. In this concluding talk of the ECT* I…
We present results of a detailed analysis of experimental data on the nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}$ and the flow coefficient $v_2$ for light hadrons from RHIC for $0.2$ TeV Au+Au collisions and from LHC for $2.76$ and $5.02$ TeV Pb+Pb, and $5.44$ TeV Xe+Xe collisions. We perform calculations within the light-cone path integral approach to induced gluon emission. We use running $α_s$ which is frozen at low momenta at some value $α_{s}^{fr}$. We find that the RHIC data support somewhat larger value of $α_{s}^{fr}$. For the $χ^2$ optimized values of $α_{s}^{fr}$, the theoretical prediction…
