A systematic study of two particle correlations from NA49 at CERN SPS

A systematic study of two particle correlations measured by the NA49 experiment is summarized. Radii from Bose Einstein interferometry have been determined separately in different parts of phase space, for different collision systems and at different incident beam energies. Moreover, first results of a new method of accessing space-time asymmetries in the emission of particles by means of non identical particle correlations are presented.

Beam Energy and Centrality Dependence of Two-Pion Bose-Einstein Correlations at SPS Energies

Results are presented of a two-pion interferometry (HBT) analysis in Pb+Au collisions at 40, 80, and 158 AGeV. A detailed study of the Bertsch-Pratt HBT radius parameters has been performed as function of the mean pair transverse momentum $k_t$ and in bins of the centrality of the collision. From these results we extract model dependent information about the space-time evolution of the reaction. An investigation of the effective volume of the pion emitting system provides an important tool to study the properties of thermal pion freeze-out.

HBT interferometry and the parton-hadron phase transition

We discuss predictions for the pion and kaon interferometry measurements in relativistic heavy ion collisions at SPS and RHIC energies. In particular, we confront relativistic transport model calculations that include explicitly a first-order phase transition from a thermalized quark-gluon plasma to a hadron gas with recent data from the RHIC experiments. We critically examine the "HBT-puzzle" both from the theoretical as well as from the experimental point of view. Alternative scenarios are briefly explained.

Source chaoticity in relativistic heavy ion collisions at SPS and RHIC

We investigate degree of coherence of pion sources produced in relativistic heavy ion collisions using multi-particle interferometry. In order to obtain ``true'' chaoticity, lambda^true from two-pion correlation functions measured in experiments, we make a correction for long-lived resonance decay contributions. Using this lambda^true and the weight factor which are obtained from parameter fitted to two- and three-pion correlation function, we calculate a chaotic fraction epsilon and the number of coherent sources alpha for different colliding energies. HBT search for new states of matter in A+A collisions

A method allowing studies of the hadronic matter at the early evolution stage in A+A collisions is developed. It is based on an interferometry analysis of approximately conserved values such as the averaged phase-space density (APSD) and the specific entropy of thermal pions. The plateau found in the APSD behavior vs collision energy at SPS is associated, apparently, with the deconfinement phase transition at low SPS energies; a saturation of this quantity at the RHIC energies indicates the limiting Hagedorn temperature for hadronic matter. Interferometric signatures of the temperature dependence of the specific shear viscosity in heavy-ion collisions

Recent work has shown that a temperature dependence of the shear viscosity to entropy ratio, $η/s$, influences the collective flow pattern in heavy-ion collisions in characteristic ways that can be measured by studying hadron transverse momentum spectra and their anisotropies. Spectra, flow and HBT in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC

The transverse momentum spectra, elliptic flow and interferometry radii for Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC are calculated in relativistic viscous hydrodynamics. For Glauber model initial conditions, we find that the data can be described using a small value of shear viscosity eta/s=0.08. The viscosities and the equation of state are the same as used for RHIC energies.

De-Confinement and Clustering of Color Sources in Nuclear Collisions

A brief introduction of the relationship of string percolation to the Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD) phase diagram is presented. The behavior of the Polyakov loop close to the critical temperature is studied in terms of the color fields inside the clusters of overlapping strings, which are produced in high energy hadronic collisions.
