We study higher-dimensional soliton and hairy black hole solutions of the Einstein equations non-minimally coupled to a scalar field. The scalar field has no self-interaction potential but a cosmological constant is included. Non-trivial solutions exist only when the cosmological constant is negative and the constant governing the coupling of the scalar field to the Ricci scalar curvature is positive. At least some of these solutions are stable when this coupling constant is not too large.
The interaction of massless minimally coupled scalar field and spinor field $ \left( Ψ+ Φ_m \rightarrow Ψ+ Φ_m \right) $ is investigated and the behavior of interaction and scattering matrix in Minkowski limit is studied. It is seen that the massless minimally coupled scalar field operator, the interaction Lagrangian and the scattering matrix become zero. Also the incoming and outgoing spinor fields, which in de Sitter space-time are different and are interacted with massless minimally coupled scalar field, in null curvature limit are the same and no interaction seen. In other word, the massle…
We revisit the issue of the fluid description of minimally coupled scalar fields. While in a cosmological setup the interpretation of a time-evolving scalar field as a perfect fluid is well-understood, the situation is more intricate when the scalar field is static, but has a spatial gradient, a situation motivated by black hole perturbations in scalar-tensor theories. Then the scalar field is interpreted as either a particular imperfect fluid of type I or a superposition of a pair of leftgoing (incoming) and rightgoing (outgoing) null dusts with a perfect fluid. Finally, when the scalar gradi…
We study the propagation of massless scalar fields non-minimally coupled to gravity in the background of five-dimensional Einstein-power-Maxwell black holes, and using the WKB and the pseudospectral Chebyshev methods we obtain the quasinormal frequencies (QNFs), which allow us to show the existence of stable and unstable QNFs depending on the power $k$ of the nonlinear electrodynamics, the $ξ$ parameter, which controls the strength of the non-minimal coupling, and on the size of the black hole.
In this paper, we analyze the early-time inflation in a scalar-tensor theory of gravity where the scalar field is minimally coupled with the Gauss-Bonnet four dimensional topological invariant. The theory belongs to a class of Horndeski models where the field equations are at the second order like in General Relativity. A viable inflationary scenario must correctly reproduce the last Plank satellite data. By starting from some simple assumptions on the field and on the coupling function between the field and the Gauss-Bonnet term, we derive the spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio of …
A qualitative and numerical analysis of cosmological models based on assymetric scalar doublet: classical + phantom scalar field. I. A case of minimally interacting scalar fields: the qualitative analysis
In this work we present a generalized Brans-Dicke lagrangian including a non-minimally coupled Gauss-Bonnet term without imposing the vanishing torsion condition. In the resulting field equations, the torsion is closely related to the dynamics of the scalar field, i.e., if non-minimally coupled terms are present in the theory, then the torsion must be present. For the studied lagrangian we analyze the cosmological consequences of an effective torsional fluid and we show that this fluid can be responsible for the current acceleration of the universe. Finally, we perform a detailed dynamical sys…
We show that the combined minimal and non minimal interaction with the gravitational field may produce the generation of a cosmological constant without self-interaction of the scalar field. In the same vein we analyze the existence of states of a scalar field that by a combined interaction of minimal and non minimal coupling with the gravitational field can exhibit an unexpected property, to wit, they are acted on by the gravitational field but do not generate gravitational field. In other words, states that seems to violate the action-reaction principle. We present explicit examples of this …
We present a new mechanism to condense a scalar field coupled to the Gauss-Bonnet term. We propose a scenario in which the condensed state will emerge from the background energy density in the late-Universe. During the radiation and dust-dominated eras, the energy density of the scalar field, $ρ_φ$, decreases at a slower rate than the background density. Eventually, $ρ_φ$ dominates over the energy density of dust and the scalar field could be condensed. In the condensed phase, we have the de Sitter phase for the universe with $ρ_φ=3H_0^2M_P^2$. Moreover, we study the cosmological perturbations…
