It is usually thought that the quintessence as a fundamental scalar field was already present during the inflationary epoch. While there are various models in which the quintessence couples to other species, it is attractive to anticipate a coupling between the quintessence and the inflaton in the very early universe as well. We consider such a coupling in the context of k-inflation. The coupling function and the potential of the quintessence are chosen to be of power law forms. We show such a coupling affects the speed of sound for the inflaton field as well as the power spectra of perturbations.
A unified description of inflation, dark energy, and dark matter is presented within a two-scalar-field cosmological model. Inflation, assumed to be of the warm type, is driven by one of the scalar fields, which, shortly after the end of the inflationary period, decouples from radiation and begins to oscillate rapidly around the minimum of its potential, thus behaving like cold dark matter; the second scalar field emerges, at recent times, as the dominant component of the universe, giving rise to a second era of accelerated expansion. For certain values of the parameters of the model, the cosm…
Gravitoectromagnetic Inflation (GI) was introduced to describe in an unified manner, electromagnetic, gravitatory and inflaton fields from a 5D vacuum state. On the other hand, the primordial origin and evolution of dark energy is today unknown. In this letter we show using GI that the zero modes of some redefined vector fields $B_i=A_i/a$ produced during inflation, could be the source of dark energy in the universe.
We study the inflation via logarithmic entropy-corrected holographic dark energy LECHDE model with future event horizon, particle horizon and Hubble horizon cut-offs, and compare the results with those of obtained in the study of inflation by holographic dark energy HDE model. In comparison, the spectrum of primordial scalar power spectrum in the LECHDE model becomes redder than the spectrum in HDE model. Moreover, the consistency with the observational data in LECHDE model of inflation, constrains the reheating temperature and Hubble parameter by one parameter of holographic dark energy and t…
Two models that unify warm inflation with dark matter and dark energy are proposed. In the models, a single scalar field is responsible for the early expansion of the universe through the process of dissipative warm inflation and then acts as both dark matter and dark energy in subsequent stages. The first model is based on a noncanonical field with the Lagrangian density $\mathcal{L}=F(X)-V(ϕ)$, where the potential is dominant at the slow-roll inflationary epoch and negligible in subsequent stages. The second model takes advantage of a $k$-essence Lagrangian density having the coupled form $\…
It is proposed that after the macroscopic fluctuation of energy density that is responsible for inflation dies away, a class of microscopic fluctuations, always present, survives to give the present day dark energy. This latter is simply a reinterpretation of the causet mechanism of Ahmed, Dodelson, Green and Sorkin, wherein the emergence of space is dropped but only energy considerations are maintained. At postinflation times, energy is exchanged between the "cisplanckian" cosmos and an unknown foam-like transplanckian reservoir. Whereas during inflation, the energy flows only from the latter…
The gravitational production of superheavy dark matter is studied in the context of quintessential inflation. The superheavy particles, whose decay products are baryonic matter and are the responsible for the reheating of the universe after the end of the inflationary period, are not conformally coupled with gravity. On the contrary, dark matter is assumed to be conformally coupled with gravity. We show that the viability of these scenarios requires the mass of the superheavy dark matter to be greater than 8 x 10^{15} GeV.
The scenario of constant-roll inflation is investigated assuming that it is caused by holographic dark energy with energy density $3M_p^2 c^2 / L^2$. The energy density with varying $c$ parameter and Hubble radius as infrared cutoff provides a proper description for the late time acceleration expansion. This motivates us to study the role of the same holographic dark energy in the scenario of constant-roll inflation. One of the main features of constant-roll inflation is that the second slow-roll parameter is constant which is not necessarily small. This feature brings a differential equation …
We study the behavior of large-scale (cosmological) modes of back-reaction effects during inflation. We find that the group of modes which describes the very large-scale fluctuations of energy density during inflation due to back-reaction effects evolve in phase between them, but there is a tear of these modes with respect to the other modes that describe astrophysical scales. This effect could be the origin for the large-scale homogeneity and isotropy of the universe and could be a manifestation of the existence of dark energy, which is responsible for the accelerated expansion of the univers…
Inflationary paradigm has several issues, such as the pre-inflationary horizon problem or the eternal inflation. To avoid that the standard Starobinsky inflation has been extended to $R + αR^n$ and $R + αR^n -δR^{2-n}$ models as well as Brans-Dicke generalisation of those $f(R)$ models. The region of the parameter space, which provides consistency with PLANCK data and lack of eternal inflation has been founded. The Einstein frame potential has a stable minimum with non-zero vacuum energy, which may be a source of dark energy.
A quintessential Inflation (QI) scenario from Mimetic Dark Matter (MDM) is presented in this paper. This scenario, which is based on the MDM model presented by Chamseddine and Mukhanov \cite{chams}, uses a potential that is defined on three time intervals:the first during inflation, the second $10^{-65}s$ after the end of inflation and the third after that. The resulting energy density of the universe is constant during inflation, followed by that of a matter/radiation dominated universe, and finally ends with a constant energy density corresponding to dark energy. The scale factor has an acce…
We study a unification model for dark energy, dark matter, and inflation with a single scalar field with non canonical kinetic term. In this model the kinetic term of the Lagrangian accounts for the dark matter and dark energy, and at early epochs a quadratic potential accounts for slow roll inflation. The present work is an extension to the work by Bose and Majumdar [1] with a more general kinetic term that was proposed by Chimento in [2]. We demonstrate that the model is viable at the background and linear perturbation levels.
Quintessential inflation unifies inflation and late time acceleration by a single scalar field. Such a scenario, with canonical and non-canonical scalar fields, has been discussed . The scalar field behaves as an inflaton field during inflation and as a quintessence field during late time. Also the predictions of the models has been compared with the recent Planck data.
In order to solve the fine-tuning problem of the cosmological constant, we propose a simple model with the vacuum energy non-minimally coupled to the inflaton field. In this model, the vacuum energy decays to the inflaton during pre-inflation and inflation eras, so that the cosmological constant effectively deflates from the Planck mass scale to a much smaller one after inflation and plays the role of dark energy in the late-time of the universe. We show that our deflationary scenario is applicable to arbitrary slow-roll inflation models. We also take two specific inflation potentials to illus…
Inflation driven by a single dark spinor field is discussed. We define the notion of a dark spinor field and derive the cosmological field equations for such a matter source. The conditions for inflation are determined and an exactly solvable model is presented. We find the power spectrum of the quantum fluctuation of this field and compare the results with scalar field inflation.
Quintessential inflation utilises a single scalar field to account for the observations of both cosmic inflation and dark energy. The requirements for modelling quintessential inflation are described and two explicit successful models are presented in the context of $α$-attractors and Palatini modified gravity.
The Starobinsky inflation model is one of the simplest inflation models that is consistent with the cosmic microwave background observations. In order to explain dark matter of the universe, we consider a minimal extension of the Starobinsky inflation model with introducing the dark sector which communicates with the visible sector only via the gravitational interaction. In Starobinsky inflation model, a sizable amount of dark-sector particle may be produced by the inflaton decay. Thus, a scalar, a fermion or a vector boson in the dark sector may become dark matter. We pay particular attention…
In a recent paper, Liddle and Urena-Lopez suggested that to have a unified model of inflation and dark matter is imperative to have a proper reheating process where part of the inflaton field remains. In this paper I propose a model where this is possible. I found that, incorporating the effect of plasma masses generated by the inflaton products, enable us to stop the process. A numerical estimated model is presented.
The standard Starobinsky inflation has been extended to the $R + αR^n - βR^{2-n}$ model to obtain a stable minimum of the Einstein frame scalar potential of the auxiliary field. As a result we have obtained obtain a scalar potential with non-zero value of residual vacuum energy, which may be a source of Dark Energy. Our results can be easily consistent with PLANCK or BICEP2 data for appropriate choices of the value of $n$.
We discuss the possibility of producing a light dark photon dark matter through a coupling between the dark photon field and the inflaton. The dark photon with a large wavelength is efficiently produced due to the inflaton motion during inflation and becomes non-relativistic before the time of matter-radiation equality. We compute the amount of production analytically. The correct relic abundance is realized with a dark photon mass extending down to $10^{-21} \, \rm eV$.
The NANOGrav collaboration has published a suspected stochastic GW background signal in its analysis of 12.5 years PTA data, so in this work, we investigate the possibility to explain the signal by the inflationary models with double-inflection-point. We calculate the energy spectrum of GWs induced by scalar perturbations, and show that the curve lies in the $2σ$ region of the NANOGrav constraints. In addition, we analyze the reheating process and dark matter production by assuming that the inflaton is coupled with the SM Higgs boson and singlet fermionic dark matter field. We discuss the radi…
We review the unification of early-time inflation with late-time acceleration in several local modified gravity models which pass Solar System and cosmological tests. It is also demonstrated that account of non-local gravitational corrections to the action does not destroy the possibility of such unification. Dark matter effect is caused by composite graviton degree of freedom in such models.
We derive two new equations of quantum gravity and combine them with reinterpretations of previously proposed concepts of dark energy, black holes, inflation, the arrow of time and the energy at which rest-mass first manifests itself into a theory which may be a first step toward a comprehensive description of all these phenomena. The resulting theory also predicts new tests which can be experimentally checked within a few years.
Inflation is considered to be the best paradigm for describing the early universe. However, it is still unclear what is the nature of the field which drives inflation. In this talk, we discuss the possibility of spinor field driving inflation. Spinflaton -- a scalar condensate of the dark spinor field -- has a single scalar degree of freedom and leads to the identical acceleration equation as the scalar field. We also discuss the advantages of this model compared to the scalar field driven inflation and discuss its observational relevance.
The Dark Side of the Universe, which includes the cosmological inflation in the early Universe, the current dark energy and dark matter, can be theoretically described by supergravity, though it is non-trivial. We recall the arguments pro and contra supersymmetry and supergravity, and define the viable supergravity models describing the Dark Side of the Universe in agreement with all current observations. Our approach to inflation is based on the Starobinsky model, the dark energy is identified with the positive cosmological constant (de Sitter vacuum), and the dark matter particle is given by…
We consider $f(R)$ gravity theories which unify $R^n$ inflation and dark energy models. First, from the final Planck data of the cosmic microwave background, we obtain a condition, $1.977 < n < 2.003$. Next, under this constraint, we investigate local-gravity tests for three models. We find that the $R^n$ term can dominate over the dark energy term even at the Earth's curvature scale, contrary to intuition; however, the $R^n$ term does not relax or tighten the constraints on the three models.
A possible equivalence of scalar dark matter, the inflaton, and modified gravity is analyzed. After a conformal mapping, the dependence of the effective Lagrangian on the curvature is not only singular but also bifurcates into several almost Einsteinian spaces, distinguished only by a different effective gravitational strength and cosmological constant. A swallow tail catastrophe in the bifurcation set indicates the possibility for the coexistence of different Einsteinian domains in our Universe. This `triple unification' may shed new light on the nature and large scale distribution not only o…
A cosmological model dominated at the beginning by a dark radiation followed by a period of inflation is presented. This model is based on a Randall-Sundrum II type brane-world. Current observational data are used to fix the parameters associated to the dark radiation.
We investigate the corrections of the holographic dark energy to inflation paradigm. We study the evolution of the holographic dark energy in the inflationary universe in detail, and carry out a model-independent analysis on the holographic dark energy correction to the primordial scalar power spectrum. It turns out that the corrections generically make the spectrum redder. To be consistent with the experimental data, there must be a upper bound on the reheating temperature. We also discuss the corrections due to different choices of the infrared cutoff.
We investigate an inflationary model involving a gauge singlet scalar and fermionic dark matter. The mixing between the singlet scalar and the Higgs boson provides a portal to dark matter. The inflaton could either be the Higgs boson or the singlet scalar, and slow roll inflation is realized via its non-minimal coupling to gravity. In this setup, the effective scalar potential is stabilized by the mixing between two scalars and coupling with dark matter. We study constraints from collider searches, relic density and direct detection, and find that dark matter mass should be around half the mas…
Gravity takes care of both inflation and subsequent reheating in Starobinsky's R^2-model. The latter is due to inflaton gravitation decays dominated by scalar particle production. It is tempting to suggest that dark matter particles are also produced in this process. Since free scalars being too hot cannot serve as viable dark matter (Phys.Lett.B700:157-162,2011), we further study the issue considering two options: scalars with non-minimal coupling to gravity and superheavy scalars generated at inflationary stage. We found that the first option allows for viable warm or cold dark matter if sca…
Motivated by the Weyl scaling gauge symmetry, we present a theoretical framework to explain cosmic inflation and dark matter simultaneously. This symmetry has been resurrected in recent attempts to formulate the gauge theory of gravity. We show the inspired inflation model is well consistent with current observations and will be probed further by future experiments. Furthermore, we clarify and prove the stability of Weyl gauge boson in the general theory with multiple scalars. We show the massive Weyl gauge boson can be a dark matter candidate and give the correct relic abundance.
We present a scenario of vector dark matter production from symmetry breaking at the end of inflation. In this model, the accumulated energy density associated with the quantum fluctuations of the dark photon accounts for the present energy density of dark matter. The inflaton is a real scalar field while a heavy complex scalar field, such as the waterfall of hybrid inflation, is charged under the dark gauge field. After the heavy field becomes tachyonic at the end of inflation, rolling rapidly towards its global minimum, the dark photon acquires mass via the Higgs mechanism. To prevent the de…
A rapid phase of accelerated expansion in the early universe, known as inflation, dilutes all matter except the vacuum induced quantum fluctuations. These are responsible for seeding the initial perturbations in the baryonic matter, the non-baryonic dark matter and the observed temperature anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation. To explain the universe observed today, the end of inflation must also excite a thermal bath filled with baryons, an amount of baryon asymmetry, and dark matter. We review the current understanding of inflation, dark matter, mechanisms for genera…
A Friedman cosmology is investigated based on scalar-tensor gravitation with general metric coupling and scalar potential functions. We show that for a broad class of such functions, the scalar field can be dynamically trapped using a recently suggested mechanism. The trapped scalar can drive inflation and accelerated cosmic expansion, compatible with standard requirements. The inflationary phase admits a natural exit with a value of the Hubble parameter dictated by the duration of inflation in a parameter independent manner. For inflationary duration consistent with the GUT description, the r…
If the inflationary phase lasted longer than the minimal period, the length scales observed today originate from modes that were smaller than the Planck length during inflation. It was recently argued that this "trans-Planckian problem" can never arise in a consistent string theory framework, which places a stringent constraint on the energy scale of inflation, $V^{1/4}\lesssim 10^9$ GeV. In this paper, we show that this requirement corresponds to a very small Hubble scale during inflation, $H_{\rm inf}\lesssim 1$ GeV, and therefore has serious consequences on scenarios where the dark matter d…
We consider the Brans-Dicke theory motivated by the $f(R) = R + αR^n - βR^{2-n}$ model to obtain a stable minimum of the Einstein frame scalar potential of the Brans-Dicke field. As a result we have obtained an inflationary scalar potential with non-zero value of residual vacuum energy, which may be a source of Dark Energy. In addition we discuss the probability of quantum tunnelling from the minimum of the potential. Our results can be easily consistent with PLANCK or BICEP2 data for appropriate choices of the value of $n$ and $ω$.
It is commonly assumed that the Lagrangian of multi-field theories of gravity contains the sum of kinetic terms of scalar fields. However, we propose here the Lagrangian contains not the sum but the quotient of kinetic terms. With this novel change, we find the inflationary universe can be acquired with two scalars without the slow-roll approximation. On the other hand, a constant dark energy density can also be achieved with two scalars while without the need of Einstein cosmological constant.
We investigate the production of primordial black holes and their contribution to the presently observed dark matter in a dilaton two-field extension of Starobinsky's quadratic $f(R)$ model of inflation. The model features a multi-field amplification mechanism which leads to the generation of a sharp peak in the inflationary power spectrum at small wavelengths responsible for the production of primordial black holes. This mechanism is significantly different from single-field models and requires a stochastic treatment during an intermediate phase of the inflationary dynamics. We find that the …
In this work we study certain classes of $F(R,{\cal G})$ gravity which have appealing phenomenological features, with respect to the successful realization of the dark energy and of the inflationary era. Particularly, we discuss the general formalism and we demonstrate how several inflationary and dark energy evolutions can be described in the context of $F(R,{\cal G})$ gravity. Also we propose a unified model, in the context of which the early and late-time dynamics are controlled by the $F(R,{\cal G})$ gravity, thus producing inflation and the dark energy era, while the intermediate era is a…
In this work, we study unified picture of inflation and dark matter in the Higgs-Starobinsky (HS) model. As pointed out in the literature, Starobinsky $R^2$ inflation is induced by quantum correction effect from the large Higgs-curvature (graviton) coupling. We start with non-minimal coupling HS action in Jordan frame. We then transform the Jordan frame action into the Einstein one using the conformal transformation. The inflation potential is derived from the gravitational action of non-minimal-Higgs coupling and Starobinsky term in Einstein frame where the $R^2$ term is dominated in the infl…
We propose the pure natural quintessential inflation model which is motivated by Witten's conjecture, where the axion couples to pure Yang-Mills $SU(N)$ gauge field at large N limit. This modifies the standard cosine potential which is presented in the natural inflation, making it compatible with current CMB data. Our model gives a successful inflation as well as acceleration at the late times by quintessence inflaton field($ϕ$). Here the inflaton field is responsible for inflation, after that the field enters into peculiar type of reheating and then they act as dynamical dark energy field whi…
We consider FRW cosmology in non-local modified gravity. Its local scalar-tensor formulation is developed. It is explicitly demonstrated that such theory may lead to the unification of early-time inflation with late-time cosmic acceleration. The quintessence or phantom era may emerge for specific form of the action. The coupled non-local-F(R) gravity is also investigated. It is shown that such theory being consistent with Solar System tests may lead to the known universe history sequence: inflation, radiation/matter dominance and dark epoch.
Three-forms can give rise to viable cosmological scenarios of inflation and dark energy with potentially observable signatures distinct from standard single scalar field models. In this study, the background dynamics and linear perturbations of self-interacting three-form cosmology are investigated. The phase space of cosmological solutions possesses (super)-inflating attractors and saddle points which can describe three-form driven inflation or dark energy. The quantum generation and the classical evolution of perturbations is considered. The scalar and tensor spectra from a three-form inflat…
We present a minimal SU(2,1)/SU(2) x U(1) no-scale model that incorporates in an economical way modulus fixing, Starobinsky-like inflation, an adjustable scale for supersymmetry breaking and the possibility of a small cosmological constant, a.k.a. dark energy.
Phantom cosmology allows to account for dynamics and matter content of the universe tracing back the evolution to the inflationary epoch, considering the transition to the non-phantom standard cosmology (radiation/matter dominated eras) and recovering the today observed dark energy epoch. We develop the unified phantom cosmology where the same scalar plays the role of early time (phantom) inflaton and late-time Dark Energy. The recent transition from decelerating to accelerating phase is described too by the same scalar field. The (dark) matter may be embedded in this scheme, giving the natura…
We propose an extension of the scalaron-Higgs model by a non-minimal coupling of the Standard Model Higgs boson to the quadratic Ricci scalar resulting in a Higgs-dependent scalaron mass. The model predicts a successful stage of effective single-field Starobinsky inflation. It features a multi-field amplification mechanism leading to a peak in the inflationary power spectrum at small wavelengths which enhances the production of primordial black holes. The extended scalaron-Higgs model unifies inflationary cosmology with elementary particle physics and explains the origin of cold dark matter in…
We study the motion of a BPS D3-brane in the NS5-brane ring background. The radion field becomes tachyonic in this geometrical set up. We investigate the potential of this geometrical tachyon in the cosmological scenario for inflation as well as dark energy. We evaluate the spectra of scalar and tensor perturbations generated during tachyon inflation and show that this model is compatible with recent observations of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) due to an extra freedom of the number of NS5-branes. It is not possible to explain the origin of both inflation and dark energy by using a single …
We explore the bound of the trans-Planckian censorship conjecture on an inflation model with multiple stages. We show that if the first inflationary stage is responsible for the primordial perturbations in the cosmic microwave background window, the $e$-folding number of each subsequent stage will be bounded by the energy scale of the first stage. This seems to imply that the lifetime of the current era of accelerated expansion (regarded as one of the multiple inflationary stages) might be a probe for distinguishing inflation from its alternatives. We also present a multistage inflation model …
Using the fluid representation, we formulate the conditions for the appearance of all four types finite-time future singularity in modified gravity in accelerating FRW universe. It stressed that number of standard quintessence/phantom DE theories (including scalar, fluid, DBI ones, etc) brings the accelerating cosmology to future singularity precisely in the same way as singular modified gravity DE. The viable non-singular modified gravity unifying the early-time inflation with late-time acceleration is considered. It is shown that adding such non-singular theory to another realistic singular …
Inflation in the early universe can generate the nearly conformal invariant fluctuation that leads to the structures we observe at the present. The simple viable Starobinsky $R^2$ inflation has an approximate global scale symmetry. We study the conformal symmetric Weyl $\hat{R}^2$ and general $F(\hat{R})$ theories and demonstrate their equivalence to Einstein gravity coupled with a scalar and a Weyl gauge field. The scalar field in Weyl $\hat{R}^2$ gravity can be responsible for inflation with Starobinsky model as the attractor, potentially distinguishable from the latter by future experiments…
Remarkably, if $CP$ was spontaneously broken in the physics of inflation, fermions would notice and remember it. Based on that, we present a new (non-thermal) mechanism for generating self-interacting dark Dirac fermions prior to the Hot Big Bang. The non-Abelian gauge fields and axions are well-motivated matter contents for the particle physics of inflation. In this background, we analytical study Dirac fermion doublets charged under the $SU(2)$ gauge field and use point-splitting technique to regularize the currents. We show that the non-trivial $CP$-violating vacuum structure of $SU(2)$-axi…
