This paper shows that structured transmission schemes are a good choice for secret communication over interference networks with an eavesdropper. Structured transmission is shown to exploit channel asymmetries and thus perform better than randomly generated codebooks for such channels. For a class of interference channels, we show that an equivocation sumrate that is within two bits of the maximum possible legitimate communication sum-rate is achievable using lattice codes.
In this work, we consider achievable secrecy rates for symmetric $K$-user ($K \ge 3$) interference channels with confidential messages. We find that nested lattice codes and layered coding are useful in providing secrecy for these channels. Achievable secrecy rates are derived for very strong interference. In addition, we derive the secure degrees of freedom for a range of channel parameters. As a by-product of our approach, we also demonstrate that nested lattice codes are useful for K-user symmetric interference channels without secrecy constraints in that they yield higher degrees of freedo…
In this paper, we study the secrecy rates over weak Gaussian interference channels for different transmission schemes. We focus on the low-SNR regime and obtain the minimum bit energy E_b/N_0_min values, and the wideband slope regions for both TDMA and multiplexed transmission schemes. We show that secrecy constraints introduce a penalty in both the minimum bit energy and the slope regions. Additionally, we identify under what conditions TDMA or multiplexed transmission is optimal. Finally, we show that TDMA is more likely to be optimal in the presence of secrecy constraints.
This work presents novel achievable schemes for the 2-user symmetric linear deterministic interference channel with limited-rate transmitter cooperation and perfect secrecy constraints at the receivers. The proposed achievable scheme consists of a combination of interference cancelation, relaying of the other user's data bits, time sharing, and transmission of random bits, depending on the rate of the cooperative link and the relative strengths of the signal and the interference. The results show, for example, that the proposed scheme achieves the same rate as the capacity without the secrecy …
This paper deals with the secrecy capacity of the radio channel in interference-limited regime. We assume that interferers are uniformly scattered over the network area according to a Point Poisson Process and the channel model consists of path-loss, log-normal shadowing and Nakagami-m fading. Both the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity and the secrecy outage probability are then derived in closed-form expressions using tools of stochastic geometry and higher-order statistics. Our numerical results show how the secrecy metrics are affected by the disposition of the desired receiver, the …
This paper studies the frequency/time selective $K$-user Gaussian interference channel with secrecy constraints. Two distinct models, namely the interference channel with confidential messages and the one with an external eavesdropper, are analyzed. The key difference between the two models is the lack of channel state information (CSI) about the external eavesdropper. Using interference alignment along with secrecy pre-coding, it is shown that each user can achieve non-zero secure Degrees of Freedom (DoF) for both cases. More precisely, the proposed coding scheme achieves $\frac{K-2}{2K-2}$ s…
We investigate the secrecy performance of a multiuser diversity scheme for an interference-limited wireless network with a base-station (BS), $N$ legitimate users and an eavesdropper, in the presence of a single dominant interferer. Assuming interference dominates noise power at the eavesdropper and at each legitimate user's receiver, the BS transmits information to the legitimate user with the $k$-th best (highest) signal-to-interference ratio. We derive a closed-form expression for the secrecy outage probability for an arbitrary $N$ and an asymptotic expression for a fixed $k$ and large $N$.…
Physical layer network coding (PNC) has been proposed for next generation networks. In this contribution, we investigate PNC schemes with embedded perfect secrecy by exploiting structured interference in relay networks with two users and a single relay. In a practical scenario where both users employ finite and uniform signal input distributions we propose upper bounds (UBs) on the achievable perfect secrecy rates and make these explicit when PAM modems are used. We then describe two simple, explicit encoders that can achieve perfect secrecy rates close to these UBs with respect to an untrustw…
Considering a multi-user interference network with an eavesdropper, this paper aims at the power allocation to optimize the worst secrecy throughput among the network links or the secure energy efficiency in terms of achieved secrecy throughput per Joule under link security requirements. Three scenarios for the access of channel state information are considered: the perfect channel state information, partial channel state information with channels from the transmitters to the eavesdropper exponentially distributed, and not perfectly known channels between the transmitters and the users with ex…
In many communication channels, secrecy constraints usually incur a penalty in capacity, as well as generalized degrees-of-freedom (GDoF). In this work we show an interesting observation that, adding a helper can totally remove the penalty in sum GDoF, for a two-user symmetric Gaussian interference channel. For the interference channel where each transmitter sends a message to an intended receiver without secrecy constraints, the sum GDoF is a well-known "W" curve, characterized by Etkin-Tse-Wang in 2008. If the secrecy constraints are imposed on this interference channel, where the message of…
Regenerating codes based on the approach of interference alignment for wireless interference channel achieve the cut-set bound for distributed storage systems. These codes provide data reliability, and perform efficient exact node repair when some node fails. Interference alignment as a concept is especially important to improve the repair efficiency of a failed node in a minimum storage regenerating (MSR) code. In addition it can improve the stored data security in presence of passive intruders. In this paper we construct a new code resilient against a threat model where a passive eavesdroppe…
This paper investigates the fundamental performance limits of the two-user interference channel in the presence of an external eavesdropper. In this setting, we construct an inner bound, to the secrecy capacity region, based on the idea of cooperative encoding in which the two users cooperatively design their randomized codebooks and jointly optimize their channel prefixing distributions. Our achievability scheme also utilizes message-splitting in order to allow for partial decoding of the interference at the non-intended receiver. Outer bounds are then derived and used to establish the optima…
In contrast to its wired counterpart, wireless communication is highly susceptible to eavesdropping due to the broadcast nature of the wireless propagation medium. Recent works have proposed the use of interference to reduce eavesdropping capabilities in wireless wiretap networks. However, the concurrent effect of interference on both eavesdropping receivers (ERs) and legitimate receivers (LRs) has not been thoroughly investigated, and carefully engineering the network interference is required to harness the full potential of interference for wireless secrecy. This two part paper addresses thi…
In this paper the secrecy problem in the cognitive statedependent interference channel is considered. In this scenario we have a primary and a cognitive transmitter-receiver pairs. The cognitive transmitter has the message of the primary sender as side information. In addition, the state of the channel is known at the cognitive encoder. So, the cognitive encoder uses this side information to cooperate with the primary transmitter and sends its individual message confidentially. An achievable rate region and an outer bound for the rate region in this channel are derived. The results are extende…
In this paper, the role of secret key with finite rate is studied to enhance the secrecy performance of the system when users are operating in interference limited scenarios. To address this problem, a 2-user Gaussian Z-IC with secrecy constraint at the receiver is considered. One of the fundamental problems here is how to use the secret key as a part of the encoding process. The paper proposes novel achievable schemes, where the schemes differ from each other based on how the key has been used in the encoding process. The first achievable scheme uses one part of the key for one-time pad and r…
Recent results have shown that structured codes can be used to construct good channel codes, source codes and physical layer network codes for Gaussian channels. For Gaussian channels with secrecy constraints, however, efforts to date rely on random codes. In this work, we advocate that structured codes are useful for providing secrecy, and show how to compute the secrecy rate when structured codes are used. In particular, we solve the problem of bounding equivocation rates with one important class of structured codes, i.e., nested lattice codes. Having established this result, we next demonst…
This paper derives outer bounds on the secrecy capacity region of the 2-user Z interference channel (Z-IC) with rate-limited unidirectional cooperation between the transmitters. First, the model is studied under the linear deterministic setting. The derivation of the outer bounds on the secrecy capacity region involves careful selection of the side information to be provided to the receivers and using the secrecy constraints at the receivers in a judicious manner. To this end, a novel partitioning of the encoded messages and outputs is proposed for the deterministic model based on the strength…
This paper studies the value of limited rate cooperation between the transmitters for managing interference and simultaneously ensuring secrecy, in the 2-user Gaussian symmetric interference channel (GSIC). First, the problem is studied in the symmetric linear deterministic IC (SLDIC) setting, and achievable schemes are proposed, based on interference cancelation, relaying of the other user's data bits, and transmission of random bits. In the proposed achievable scheme, the limited rate cooperative link is used to share a combination of data bits and random bits depending on the model paramete…
In this work, the role of unidirectional limited rate transmitter cooperation is studied in the case of the 2-user Z interference channel (Z-IC) with secrecy constraints at the receivers, on achieving two conflicting goals simultaneously: mitigating interference and ensuring secrecy. First, the problem is studied under the linear deterministic model. The achievable schemes for the deterministic model use a fusion of cooperative precoding and transmission of a jamming signal. The optimality of the proposed scheme is established for the deterministic model for all possible parameter settings usi…
We study information-theoretic security for discrete memoryless interference and broadcast channels with independent confidential messages sent to two receivers. Confidential messages are transmitted to their respective receivers with information-theoretic secrecy. That is, each receiver is kept in total ignorance with respect to the message intended for the other receiver. The secrecy level is measured by the equivocation rate at the eavesdropping receiver. In this paper, we present inner and outer bounds on secrecy capacity regions for these two communication systems. The derived outer bound…
In this paper, we want to derive achievable secrecy rate regions for quantum interference channel with classical inputs under one-shot setting. The main idea to this end is to use the combination of superposition and rate splitting for encoding scheme and constructing a decoding scheme based on simultaneous decoding.
The many-to-one interference channel has received interest by virtue of embodying the essence of an interference network while being more tractable than the general K-user interference channel. In this paper, we introduce information theoretic secrecy to this model and consider the many-to-one interference channel with confidential messages, in which each receiver, in particular, the one subject to interference, is also one from which the interfering users' messages need to be kept secret from. We derive the achievable secrecy sum rate for this channel using nested lattice codes, as well as an…
It is known that given the real sum of two independent uniformly distributed lattice points from the same nested lattice codebook, the eavesdropper can obtain at most 1 bit of information per channel regarding the value of one of the lattice points. In this work, we study the effect of this 1 bit information on the equivocation expressed in three commonly used information theoretic measures, i.e., the Shannon entropy, the Renyi entropy and the min entropy. We then demonstrate its applications in an interference channel with a confidential message. In our previous work, we showed that nested la…
The secrecy problem in the state-dependent cognitive interference channel is considered in this paper. In our model, there are a primary and a secondary (cognitive) transmitter-receiver pairs, in which the cognitive transmitter has the message of the primary one as side information. In addition, the channel is affected by a channel state sequence which is estimated partially at the cognitive transmitter and the corresponding receiver. The cognitive transmitter wishes to cooperate with the primary one, and it sends its individual message which should be confidential at the primary receiver. The…
In this paper, we propose a low-complexity, secrecy capacity achieving polar coding scheme for the cognitive interference channel with confidential messages (CICC) under the strong secrecy criterion. Existing polar coding schemes for interference channels rely on the use of polar codes for the multiple access channel, the code construction problem of which can be complicated. We show that the whole secrecy capacity region of the CICC can be achieved by simple point-to-point polar codes due to the cognitivity, and our proposed scheme requires the minimum rate of randomness at the encoder.
The secrecy rate region of wiretap interference channels with a multi-antenna passive eavesdropper is studied under receiver energy harvesting constraints. To stay operational in the network, the legitimate receivers demand energy alongside information, which is fulfilled by power transmission and exploiting a power splitting (PS) receiver. By simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), the amount of leakage to the eavesdropper increases, which in turn reduces the secrecy rates. For this setup, lower-bounds for secure communication rate are derived without imposing any limita…
Interference in wireless networks degrades the signal quality at the terminals. However, it can potentially enhance the secrecy rate. This paper investigates the secrecy rate in a two-user interference network where one of the users, namely user 1, requires to establish a confidential connection. User 1 wants to prevent an unintended user of the network to decode its transmission. User 1 has to transmit such that its secrecy rate is maximized while the quality of service at the destination of the other user, user 2, is satisfied, and both user's power limits are taken into account. We consider…
We consider the symmetric Gaussian interference channel where two users try to enhance their secrecy rates in a cooperative manner. Artificial noise is introduced along with useful information. We derive the power control and artificial noise parameter for two kinds of optimal points, max-min point and single user point. It is shown that there exists a critical value $P_c$ of the power constraint, below which the max-min point is an optimal point on the secrecy rate region, and above which time-sharing between single user points achieves larger secrecy rate pairs. It is also shown that artific…
In this paper, we investigate physical-layer security for a heterogeneous cellular network consisting of a macro cell and a small cell in the presence of a passive eavesdropper that intends to tap both the macro-cell and small-cell transmissions. Both the orthogonal spectrum sharing (OSS) and non-orthogonal spectrum sharing (NOSS) are considered for the heterogeneous cellular network. The OSS allows the macro cell and small cell to access a given spectrum band in an orthogonal manner, whereas the NOSS enables them to access the same spectrum simultaneously and mutual interference exits. As a c…
Radio-frequency (RF) signals enabled wireless information and power transfer (WIPT) is a cost-effective technique to achieve two-way communications and at the same time provide energy supplies for low-power wireless devices. However, the information transmission in WIPT is vulnerable to the eavesdropping by the energy receivers (ERs). To achieve secrecy communications with information nodes (INs) while satisfying the energy transfer requirement of ERs, an efficient solution is to exploit a dual use of the energy signals also as useful interference or artificial noise (AN) to interfere with the…
In this paper, we investigate the potential benefits of the massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) enabled heterogeneous cloud radio access network (C-RAN) in terms of the secrecy and energy efficiency (EE). In this network, both remote radio heads (RRHs) and massive MIMO macrocell base stations (BSs) are deployed and soft fractional frequency reuse (S-FFR) is adopted to mitigate the inter-tier interference. We first examine the physical layer security by deriving the area ergodic secrecy rate and secrecy outage probability. Our results reveal that the use of massive MIMO and C-RAN can …
In this paper, we investigate the secrecy capacity of a point-to-point, full-duplex (FD) wirelesly powered communication system in the presence of a passive eavesdropper (EVE). The considered system is comprised of an energy transmitter (ET), an energy harvesting user (EHU), and a passive EVE. The ET transmits radio-frequency energy, which is used for powering the EHU as well as for generating interference at the EVE. The EHU uses the energy harvested from the ET to transmit confidential messages back to the ET. As a consequence of the FD mode of operation, both the EHU and the ET are subjecte…
This paper studies interference channels with security constraints. The existence of an external eavesdropper in a two-user interference channel is assumed, where the network users would like to secure their messages from the external eavesdropper. The cooperative binning and channel prefixing scheme is proposed for this system model which allows users to cooperatively add randomness to the channel in order to degrade the observations of the external eavesdropper. This scheme allows users to add randomness to the channel in two ways: 1) Users cooperate in their design of the binning codebooks,…
This paper studies the K-user Gaussian interference channel with secrecy constraints. Two distinct network models, namely the interference channel with confidential messages and the one with an external eavesdropper, are analyzed. Using interference alignment along with secrecy pre-coding at each transmitter, it is shown that each user in the network can achieve non-zero secure Degrees of Freedoms (DoFs) in both scenarios. In particular, the proposed coding scheme achieves (K-2)/(2K-2) secure DoFs for each user in the interference channel with confidential messages model, and (K-2)/2K secure D…
Spectrum leasing via cooperation refers to the possibility of primary users leasing a portion of the spectral resources to secondary users in exchange for cooperation. In the presence of an eavesdropper, this correspondence proposes a novel application of this concept in which the secondary cooperation aims at improving secrecy of the primary network by creating more interference to the eavesdropper than to the primary receiver. To generate the interference in a positive way, this work studies an optimal design of a beamformer at the secondary transmitter with multiple antennas that maximizes …
The underlay cognitive radio-based hybrid radio frequency / free-space optical (RF / FSO) systems have been emerged as a promising technology due to its ability to eliminate spectrum scarcity and spectrum under-utilization problems. Consequently, this work analyzes the physical layer security aspects of a cognitive RF / FSO hybrid network that includes a primary user, a secondary source, a secondary receiver, and an eavesdropper where the secret communication takes place between two legitimate secondary peers over the RF and FSO links simultaneously, and the eavesdropper can overhear the RF li…
In communication networks secrecy constraints usually incur an extra limit in capacity or generalized degrees-of-freedom (GDoF), in the sense that a penalty in capacity or GDoF is incurred due to the secrecy constraints. Over the past decades a significant amount of effort has been made by the researchers to understand the limits of secrecy constraints in communication networks. In this work, we focus on how to remove the secrecy constraints in communication networks, i.e., how to remove the GDoF penalty due to secrecy constraints. We begin with three basic settings: a two-user symmetric Gauss…
Wireless communication is susceptible to eavesdropping attacks because of its broadcast nature. This paper illustrates how interference can be used to counter eavesdropping and assist secrecy. In particular, a wire-tap channel with a helping interferer (WT-HI) is considered. Here, a transmitter sends a confidential message to its intended receiver in the presence of a passive eavesdropper and with the help of an independent interferer. The interferer, which does not know the confidential message, helps in ensuring the secrecy of the message by sending an independent signal. An achievable secre…
Caching popular contents is a promising way to offload the mobile data traffic in wireless networks, but so far the potential advantage of caching in improving physical layer security (PLS) is rarely considered. In this paper, we contribute to the design and theoretical understanding of exploiting the caching ability of users to improve the PLS in a wireless heterogeneous network (HetNet). In such network, the base station (BS) ensures the secrecy of communication by utilizing some of the available power to transmit a pre-cached file, such that only the eavesdropper's channel is degraded. Acco…
Interference alignment (IA) has attracted enormous research interest as it achieves optimal capacity scaling with respect to signal to noise ratio on interference networks. IA has also recently emerged as an effective tool in engineering interference for secrecy protection on wireless wiretap networks. However, despite the numerous works dedicated to IA, two of its fundamental issues, i.e., feasibility conditions and transceiver design, are not completely addressed in the literature. In this two part paper, a generalised interference alignment (GIA) technique is proposed to enhance the IA's ca…
Multi-user Gaussian MIMO wiretap channel is considered under interference power constraints (IPC), in addition to the total transmit power constraint (TPC). Algorithms for \textit{global} maximization of its secrecy rate are proposed. Their convergence to the secrecy capacity is rigorously proved and a number of properties are established analytically. Unlike known algorithms, the proposed ones are not limited to the MISO case and are proved to converge to a \textit{global} rather than local optimum in the general MIMO case, even when the channel is not degraded. In practice, the convergence i…
In the spectrum-sharing technology, a secondary user may utilize the primary user's licensed band as long as its interference to the primary user is below a tolerable value. In this paper, we consider a scenario in which a secondary user is operating in the presence of both a primary user and an eavesdropper. Hence, the secondary user has both interference limitations and security considerations. In such a scenario, we study the secrecy capacity limits of opportunistic spectrum-sharing channels in fading environments and investigate the optimal power allocation for the secondary user under ave…
This letter is concerned with the secrecy performance of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS)-aided wireless networks in the existence of multiple interferers towards the destination. To be more precise, we analyze three critical issues in the design of secure RIS-assisted networks: 1) How do interferers affect the performance of secure wireless networks? 2) Which of the two groups of eavesdroppers (i.e., colluding and non-colluding) is more severe? 3) How can RIS improve network confidentiality? To do so, we develop the analytical expression of secrecy outage probability in closed-form, …
This work investigates the impact of the ever-present electromagnetic interference (EMI) on the achievable secrecy performance of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided communication systems. We characterize the end-to-end RIS channel by considering key practical aspects such as spatial correlation, transmit beamforming vector, phase-shift noise, the coexistence of direct and indirect channels, and the presence of strong/mild EMI on the receiver sides. We show that the effect of EMI on secrecy performance strongly depends on the ability of the eavesdropper to cancel such interference; …
This paper studies the capacity of the multi-antenna or multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) secrecy channels with multiple eavesdroppers having single/multiple antennas. It is known that the MIMO secrecy capacity is achievable with the optimal transmit covariance matrix that maximizes the minimum difference between the channel mutual information of the secrecy user and those of the eavesdroppers. The MIMO secrecy capacity computation can thus be formulated as a non-convex max-min problem, which cannot be solved efficiently by standard convex optimization techniques. To handle this difficulty…
In this paper, we propose a device to device (D2D) communication scenario underlaying a cellular network where both D2D and cellular users (CUs) are discrete power-rate systems with limited feedback from the receivers. It is assumed that there exists an adversary which wants to eavesdrop on the information transmission from the base station (BS) to CUs. Since D2D communication shares the same spectrum with cellular network, cross interference must be considered. However, when secrecy capacity is considered, the interference caused by D2D communication can help to improve the secrecy communicat…
In this paper, we consider the secure transmission design for a multiple-input single-output Femtocell overlaid with a Macrocell in co-channel deployment. The Femtocell base station sends confidential messages to information receiving Femtocell users (FUs) and energy signals to energy receiving (ER) FUs while limiting the interference to Macrocell users (MUs). The ER FUs have the potential to wiretap the confidential messages. By taking fairness into account, we propose a sum logarithmic secrecy rate maximization beamforming design problem under the interference constraints for MUs and energy …
In this paper, we consider the design of a new secrecy transmission scheme for a four-node relay-eavesdropper channel. The key idea of the proposed scheme is to combine noisy network coding with the interference assisted strategy for wiretap channel with a helping interferer. A new achievable secrecy rate is characterized for both discrete memoryless and Gaussian channels. Such a new rate can be viewed as a general framework, where the existing interference assisted schemes such as noisy-forwarding and cooperative jamming approaches can be shown as special cases of the proposed scheme. In addi…
This paper considers the security issue of the fifth-generation (5G) wireless networks with massive connections, where multiple eavesdroppers aim to intercept the confidential messages through active eavesdropping. To realize secure massive access, non-orthogonal channel estimation (NOCE) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) techniques are combined to enhance the signal quality at legitimate users, while the inter-user interference is harnessed to deliberately confuse the eavesdroppers even without exploiting artificial noise (AN). We first analyze the secrecy performance of the considere…
In this paper, we present the ergodic sum secrecy rate (ESSR) analysis of an underlay spectrum sharing non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system. We consider the scenario where the power transmitted by the secondary transmitter (ST) is constrained by the peak tolerable interference at multiple primary receivers (PRs) as well as the maximum transmit power of the ST. The effect of channel estimation error is also taken into account in our analysis. We derive exact and asymptotic closed-form expressions for the ESSR of the downlink NOMA system, and show that the performance can be classified i…
In this paper, we consider the problem of joint transmit precoding (TPC) matrix and receive filter matrix design subject to both secrecy and per-transmitter power constraints in the MIMO interference channel, where $K$ legitimate transmitter-receiver pairs communicate in the presence of an external eavesdropper. Explicitly, we jointly design the TPC and receive filter matrices based on the minimum total mean-squared error (MT-MSE) criterion under a given and feasible information-theoretic degrees of freedom. More specifically, we formulate this problem by minimizing the total MSEs of the signa…
This paper studies secrecy rate optimization in a wireless network with a single-antenna source, a multi-antenna destination and a multi-antenna eavesdropper. This is an unfavorable scenario for secrecy performance as the system is interference-limited. In the literature, assuming that the receiver operates in half duplex (HD) mode, the aforementioned problem has been addressed via use of cooperating nodes who act as jammers to confound the eavesdropper. This paper investigates an alternative solution, which assumes the availability of a full duplex (FD) receiver. In particular, while receivin…
Based on the concept of constructive interference (CI), multiuser interference (MUI) has recently been shown to be beneficial for communication secrecy. A few CI-based secure precoding algorithms have been proposed that use both the channel state information (CSI) and knowledge of the instantaneous transmit symbols. In this paper, we examine the CI-based secure precoding problem with a focus on smart eavesdroppers that exploit statistical information gleaned from the precoded data for symbol detection. Moreover, the impact of correlation between the main and eavesdropper channels is taken into…
This paper investigates physical layer security (PLS) in the intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted multiple-user uplink channel. Since the instantaneous eavesdropper's channel state information (CSI) is unavailable, the secrecy rate can not be measured. In this case, existing investigations usually focus on the maximization of the minimum (max-min) of signal to interference plus noise power ratio (SINRs) among multiple users, and do not consider secrecy outage probability caused by eavesdroppers. In this paper, we first formulate the minimization of the maximum (min-max) secrecy outage…
We investigate the $K$-user many-to-one interference channel with confidential messages in which the $K$th user experiences interference from all other $K-1$ users, and is at the same time treated as an eavesdropper to all the messages of these users. We derive achievable rates and an upper bound on the sum rate for this channel and show that the gap between the achievable sum rate and its upper bound is $\log_2(K-1)$ bits per channel use under very strong interference, when the interfering users have equal power constraints and interfering link channel gains. The main contributions of this wo…
We show that the problem of analyzing the outage probability in cellular systems affected by co-channel interference and background noise is mathematically equivalent to the problem of analyzing the wireless information-theoretic security in terms of the maximum secrecy rate in fading channels. Hence, these both apparently unrelated problems can be addressed by using a common approach. We illustrate the applicability of the connection unveiled herein to provide new results for the secrecy outage probability in different scenarios.
Physical-layer security for wireless networks has become an effective approach and recently drawn significant attention in the literature. In particular, the deployment and allocation of resources such as relays to assist the transmission have gained significant interest due to their ability to improve the secrecy rate of wireless networks. In this work, we examine relay selection criteria with arbitrary knowledge of the channels of the users and the eavesdroppers. We present alternative optimization criteria based on the signal-to-interference and the secrecy rate criteria that can be used fo…
