We study the ground-state properties and quantum dynamics of few-boson mixtures with strong inter-species repulsion in one-dimensional traps. If one species localizes at the center, e.g., due to a very large mass compared to the other component, it represents an effective barrier for the latter and the system can be mapped onto identical bosons in a double well. For weaker localization, the barrier atoms begin to respond to the light component, leading to an induced attraction between the mobile atoms that may even outweigh their bare intra-species repulsion. To explain the resulting effects, we derive an effective Hubbard model for the lighter species accounting for the backaction of the barrier in correction terms to the lattice parameters. Also the tunneling is drastically affected: Varying the degree of localization of the "barrier" atoms, the dynamics of intrinsically noninteracting bosons can change from Rabi oscillations to effective pair tunneling. For identical fermions (or fermionized bosons) this leads to the tunneling of attractively bound pairs.
We study harmonically trapped two-species Bose-Einstein condensates within the Gross-Pitaevskii formalism. By invoking the Thomas-Fermi approximation, we derive an analytical solution for the miscible ground state in a particular region of the system's parameter space. This solution furnishes a simple formula for determining the relative strength of the interspecies interaction from a measurement of the density distribution of only one of the two species. Accompanying numerical simulations confirm its accuracy for sufficiently large numbers of condensed particles. The introduced formula provid…
We report on the production of a 41K-87Rb dual-species Bose-Einstein condensate in a hybrid trap, consisting of a magnetic quadrupole and an optical dipole potential. After loading both atomic species in the trap, we cool down 87Rb first by magnetic and then by optical evaporation, while 41K is sympathetically cooled by elastic collisions with 87Rb. We eventually produce two-component condensates with more than 10^5 atoms and tunable species population imbalance. We observe the immiscibility of the quantum mixture by measuring the density profile of each species after releasing them from the t…
We provide an analytical model to fabricate an exponential localization of a Bose-Einstein condensate under bichromatic optical lattice. Such localization is famously known as Anderson localization. The degree of localization is investigated by the Participation Ratio to recognize the laser parameter domain for Anderson localization. The exponential nature of the localization is proved, where we also identify the Localization Length. The tunneling of Anderson-localized condensate with time is observed, and the revival phenomenon of Anderson localization is reported. Slowing down of Anderson lo…
Considerable progress in experimental studies of atomic gases in a toroidal geometry has opened up novel prospects for the investigation of fundamental properties of superfluid states and creation of new configurations for atomtronic circuits. In particular, atomic Bose-Einstein condensates loaded in a dual-ring trap suggest a possibility to consider the tunneling dynamics between coupled condensates with different angular momenta. Accordingly, we address the tunneling in a pair of coaxial ring-shaped condensates separated by a horizontal potential barrier. A weak-coupling truncated (finite-mo…
We study a one-dimensional disordered Bose fluid using bosonization, the replica method and a nonperturbative functional renormalization-group approach. We find that the Bose-glass phase is described by a fully attractive strong-disorder fixed point characterized by a singular disorder correlator whose functional dependence assumes a cuspy form that is related to the existence of metastable states. At nonzero momentum scale $k$, quantum tunneling between the ground state and low-lying metastable states leads to a rounding of the cusp singularity into a quantum boundary layer (QBL). The width o…
We investigate the dynamical phase transition of two-component Bose-Einstein condensate with nonlinear tunneling, which is trapped inside a double-well and dispersively coupled to a single mode of a high-finesse optical cavity with one moving end mirror driven by a single mode standing field. The nonlinear tunneling interaction leads to an increase of stability points and riches the phase diagram of the system. It is shown that the appearance of the moving end mirror speeds up the tunneling of Bose-Einstein condensates, which makes population difference between two wells and regulates the numb…
We report on the production of a $^{41}$K-$^{87}$Rb dual-species Bose-Einstein condensate with tunable interspecies interaction and we study the mixture in the attractive regime, i.e. for negative values of the interspecies scattering length $a_{12}$. The binary condensate is prepared in the ground state and confined in a pure optical trap. We exploit Feshbach resonances for tuning the value of $a_{12}$. After compensating the gravitational sag between the two species with a magnetic field gradient, we drive the mixture into the attractive regime. We let the system to evolve both in free space…
We investigate the tunneling dynamics of an ultracold bosonic impurity species which interacts repulsively with a second, larger Bose gas. Both species are held in a finite-sized quasi-one-dimensional box potential. In addition, the impurity bosons experience a periodic potential generated by an optical lattice. We initially prepare our binary mixture in its ground state, such that the impurities and Bose gas are phase separated and the impurities localize pairwise in adjacent sites of the periodic potential, by tuning the interaction strengths and the lattice depth correspondingly. The dynami…
