Horava's "Lifschitz point gravity" has many desirable features, but in its original incarnation one is forced to accept a non-zero cosmological constant of the wrong sign to be compatible with observation. We develop an extension of Horava's model that abandons "detailed balance", and in 3+1 dimensions exhibit all five marginal (renormalizable) and four relevant (super-renormalizable) operators, as determined by power counting. We also consider the classical limit of this theory, evaluate the Hamiltonian and super-momentum constraints, and extract the classical equations of motion in a form similar to the ADM formulation of general relativity. This puts the model in a framework amenable to developing detailed precision tests.
We present a gravitational field theory that implements Horava's proposal of foliation-preserving-diffeomorphisms symmetry and higher spatial curvature directly in the canonical formalism. Due to the higher spatial derivative the theory is potentially renormalizable. Since this gauge symmetry is natural in the canonical formalism, we do not require a Lagrangian of second-order in time derivatives to begin with. We define the nonzero part of the Hamiltonian and the constraints motivated by the kinetic-conformal version of the nonprojectable Horava theory. The resulting theory is an extension of…
The organising principles underlying the structure of phenomenologically viable string vacua can be accessed by sampling such vacua. In many cases this is prohibited by the computational cost of standard sampling methods in the high dimensional model space. Here we show how this problem can be alleviated using reinforcement learning techniques to explore string flux vacua. We demonstrate in the case of the type IIB flux landscape that vacua with requirements on the expectation value of the superpotential and the string coupling can be sampled significantly faster by using reinforcement learnin…
In this paper, we examine the CP-violating term of the Euler-Heisenberg action. We focus in the aspects related with the generation of such a term from a QED-like model in terms of the effective action approach. In particular, we show that the generation of the CP-violating term is closely related with both of vector and axial fermionic bilinears. Although, these anomalous models are not a "viable" extension of QED, we argue that the CP-violating term in the photon sector is obtained only from this class of models, and not from any fundamental field theory.
Traversable wormhole solutions in General Relativity require exotic matter sources that violate the null energy condition (NEC), and such behavior maybe avoided in modified gravity. In this study, we analyze the energy conditions for static, spherically symmetric traversable Morris-Thorne wormholes in a recently proposed viable $f(R)$ gravity model. We numerically analyze solutions considering both constant and variable redshift functions, and present wormhole space-times respecting the NEC, supported by a phantom energy-like equation of state for the source. Moreover, we analyze the stability…
We discuss the ultraviolet sector of 3+1 dimensional Lifshitz-type anisotropic higher derivative scalar, fermion and gauge field theories, with anisotropy exponent z=3 and with explicit breaking of Lorentz symmetry. By discarding from the action all momentum dependent vertex operators, which is essential to avoid phenomenologically unacceptable deformations of the light cone, we find that renormalizable scalar self-interaction and Yukawa-like couplings are, in general, asymptotically free. However, the requirement of cancelling momentum dependent vertex operators is incompatible with gauge sym…
