In a distinguishing spacetime the horismos relation generates the causal relation

It is proved that in a distinguishing spacetime the horismos relation E^+=J^+\I^+ generates the causal relation J^+. In other words two causally related events are joined by a chain of horismotically related events, or again, the causal relation is the smallest transitive relation containing the horismos relation. The result is sharp in the sense that distinction can not be weakened to future or past distinction. Finally, it is proved that a spacetime in which the horismos relation generates the causal relation is necessarily non-total imprisoning.

Null Geodesics from Ladder Molecules

We propose a discrete analogue of null geodesics in causal sets that are approximated by a region of 2d Minkowski spacetime, in the spirit of Kronheimer and Penrose's "grids" and "beams" for an abstract causal space. The causal set analogues are "ladder molecules", whose rungs are linked pairs of elements corresponding loosely to Barton et al's horizon bi-atoms. Spacetime causal structure and dimension from horismotic relation

A reflexive relation on a set can be a starting point in defining the causal structure of a spacetime in General Relativity and other relativistic theories of gravity. If we identify this relation as the relation between lightlike separated events (the horismos relation), we can construct in a natural way the entire causal structure: causal and chronological relations, causal curves, and a topology. Distinguishing causal time from Minkowski time and a model for the black hole quantum eigenstates

A discussion is presented of the principle of black hole com- plementarity. Globally hyperbolic spacetimes can be defined as "causal" instead of "strongly causal"

The classical definition of {\em global hyperbolicity} for a spacetime $(M,g)$ comprises two conditions: (A) compactness of the diamonds $J^+(p)\cap J^-(q)$, and (B) strong causality. Here we show that condition (B) can be replaced just by causality. In fact, we show first that the classical definition of causal simplicity (which impose to be distinguishing, apart from the closedness of $J^+(p)$, $J^-(q)$) can be weakened in causal instead of distinguishing. So, the full consistency of the causal ladder (recently proved by the authors in a definitive way) yields directly the result.

The causal structure of a strongly causal spacetime is particularly well endowed. A note on the existence of standard splittings for conformally stationary spacetimes

Let $(M,g)$ be a spacetime which admits a complete timelike conformal Killing vector field $K$. We prove that $(M,g)$ splits globally as a standard conformastationary spacetime with respect to $K$ if and only if $(M,g)$ is distinguishing (and, thus causally continuous). Causal but non-distinguishing spacetimes with complete stationary vector fields are also exhibited. For the proof, the recently solved "folk problems" on smoothability of time functions (moreover, the existence of a {\em temporal} function) are used.

Causality theory for closed cone structures with applications

We develop causality theory for upper semi-continuous distributions of cones over manifolds generalizing results from mathematical relativity in two directions: non-round cones and non-regular differentiability assumptions. Discrete Group Actions on Spacetimes: Causality Conditions and the Causal Boundary

Suppose a spacetime $M$ is a quotient of a spacetime $V$ by a discrete group of isometries. It is shown how causality conditions in the two spacetimes are related, and how can one learn about the future causal boundary on $M$ by studying structures in $V$. The relations between the two are particularly simple (the boundary of the quotient is the quotient of the boundary) if both $V$ and $M$ have spacelike future boundaries and if it is known that the quotient of the future completion of $V$ is past-distinguishing. (That last assumption is automatic in the case of $M$ being multi-warped.)

Causal orders, quantum circuits and spacetime: distinguishing between definite and superposed causal orders

We study the notion of causal orders for the cases of (classical and quantum) circuits and spacetime events. We show that every circuit can be immersed into a classical spacetime, preserving the compatibility between the two causal structures. Distinguishing Causal Seeds from Inflation

Causal seed models, such as cosmological defects, generically predict a distinctly different structure to the CMB power spectrum than inflation, due to the behavior of the perturbations outside the horizon. We provide a general analysis of their causal generation from isocurvature initial conditions by analyzing the role of stress perturbations and conservation laws in the causal evolution. On the causal properties of warped product spacetimes

It is shown that the warped product spacetime P=M *_f H, where H is a complete Riemannian manifold, and the original spacetime M share necessarily the same causality properties, the only exceptions being the properties of causal continuity and causal simplicity which present some subtleties. Causal structures and holography

We explore the description of bulk causal structure in a dual field theory.
