Electron is modeled as a spherically symmetric charged perfect fluid distribution of matter. The existing model is extended assuming a matter source that is characterized by quadratic EoS in the context of general theory of relativity. For the suitable choices of the parameters, our charged fluid models almost satisfy the physical properties of electron.
In this paper we study some features of the Reissner-Nordström metric both from an analytic and a visual point of view. We perform an accurate ray tracing and study of null geodesics in various situations. Among the issues we focus on are (i) the comparison with the Schwarzschild case, (ii) the naked singularity case, where, if the electric charge is not too large, some dark shell appears on images despite there is no horizon in the metric, and (iii) the wormhole crossing case, i.e., a visual exploration of the maximal analytic extension of the metric.
The existence of extremely dark and compact astronomical bodies is by now a well established observational fact. On the other hand, classical General Relativity predicts the existence of black holes which fit very well with the observations, but do lead to important conceptual problems. In this contribution we ask ourselves the straightforward question: Are the dark and compact objects that we have observational evidence for black holes in the sense of General Relativity? By revising the semiclassical scenario of stellar collapse we find out that as the result of a collapse some alternative ob…
The dual dynamics of Einstein gravity on AdS$_3$ supplemented with boundary conditions of KdV-type is identified. It corresponds to a two-dimensional field theory at the boundary, described by a novel action principle whose field equations are given by two copies of the "potential modified KdV equation". The asymptotic symmetries then transmute into the global Noether symmetries of the dual action, giving rise to an infinite set of commuting conserved charges, implying the integrability of the system. Noteworthy, the theory at the boundary is non-relativistic and possesses anisotropic scaling …
We study the solution space of general relativistic, axisymmetric, equilibria of differentially rotating neutron stars with realistic, nuclear equations of state. We find that different types of stars, which were identified by earlier works for polytropic equations of state, arise for realistic equations of state, too. Scanning the solution space for the sample of realistic equations of state we treat, we find lower limits on the maximum rest masses supported by cold, differentially rotating stars for each type of stars. We often discover equilibrium configurations that can support more than 2…
Electron accelerations of the order of $10^{21} g$ obtained by laser fields open up the possibility of experimentally testing one of the cornerstones of general relativity, the weak equivalence principle, which states that the local effects of a gravitational field are indistinguishable from those sensed by a properly accelerated observer in flat space-time. We illustrate how this can be done by solving the Einstein equations in vacuum and integrating the geodesic equations of motion for a uniformly accelerated particle.

We consider the so-called semiclassical variant of general relativity, where gravitational field is not quantized but matter is quantized, for the simplest composite quantum body - a hydrogen atom. We create a stationary electron quantum state in the atom in the absence of gravitational field and study its time evolution in the presence of the field, using the local Lorentz invariance property of spacetime. It is shown that this state with a definite energy in the absence of gravitational field is not anymore a stationary state in the field. Therefore, quantum measurements of passive gravitati…
We consider a static spherically symmetric charged anisotropic fluid source of finite physical radius (\sim 10^{-16} cm) by introducing a scalar variable Λdependent on the radial coordinate r under general relativity. From the solution sets a possible role of the cosmological constant is investigated which indicates the dependency of energy density of electron on the variable Λ.
Deformed Special Relativity (DSR) is a generalization of Special Relativity based on a deformed Minkowski space, i.e. a four-dimensional space-time with metric coefficients depending on the energy. We show that, in the DSR framework, it is possible to derive the value of the electron mass from the space-time geometry via the experimental knowledge of the parameter of local Lorentz invariance breakdown, and of the Minkowskian threshold energy $E_{0,em}$ for the electromagnetic interaction.
On June 5, 1905 Poincaré presented a Note to the Académie des Sciences entitled "Sur la dynamique de l'électron" ("On the Dynamics of the Electron"). After briefly recalling the context that led Poincaré to write this Note, we comment its content. We emphasize that Poincaré's electron model consists in assuming that the interior of the worldtube of the (hollow) electron is filled with a positive cosmological constant. We then discuss the several novel contributions to the physico-mathematical aspects of Special Relativity which are sketched in the Note, though they are downplayed by Poincaré w…
Revisiting and extending an old idea of Michel Hénon, we geometrically and algebraically characterize the whole set of isochrone potentials. Such potentials are fundamental in potential theory. They appear in spherically symmetrical systems formed by a large amount of charges (electrical or gravitational) of the same type considered in mean-field theory. Such potentials are defined by the fact that the radial period of a test charge in such potentials, provided that it exists, depends only on its energy and not on its angular momentum. Our characterization of the isochrone set is based on the …
We highlight four points which have been ignored or underestimated before and which allow a better understanding of "Sur la dynamique de l'electron": (i) the use by Poincare of active Lorentz transformations (boosts); (ii) the necessity, required by mechanics, of a group condition l=1 eliminating dilations; (iii) the key role of the action (electromagnetic or not) and of its invariance; (iv) the mathematical status of electron models as example or counter-example.
The deflection of gamma-rays in Earth's gravitational field is tested in laser Compton scattering at high energy accelerators. Within a formalism connecting the bending angle to the photon's momentum it follows that detected gamma-ray spectra are inconsistent with a deflection magnitude of 2.78 nrad, predicted by Einstein's gravity theory. Moreover, preliminary results for 13-28 GeV photons from two different laboratories show opposite - away from the beam line - deflection, amounting to 33.8-0.8 prad. These conclusions, however, are applicable only for gravitationally sterile high energy elec…
