We establish well-posedness in the mild sense for a class of stochastic semilinear evolution equations with a polynomially growing quasi-monotone nonlinearity and multiplicative Poisson noise. We also study existence and uniqueness of invariant measures for the associated semigroup in the Markovian case. A key role is played by a new maximal inequality for stochastic convolutions in $L_p$ spaces.
We study the asymptotic behavior of solutions to stochastic evolution equations with monotone drift and multiplicative Poisson noise in the variational setting, thus covering a large class of (fully) nonlinear partial differential equations perturbed by jump noise. In particular, we provide sufficient conditions for the existence, ergodicity, and uniqueness of invariant measures. Furthermore, under mild additional assumptions, we prove that the Kolmogorov equation associated to the stochastic equation with additive noise is solvable in $L_1$ spaces with respect to an invariant measure.
A condition is identified that implies that solutions to the stochastic reaction-diffusion equation $\frac{\partial u}{\partial t} = \mathcal{A} u + f(u) + σ(u) \dot{W}$ on a bounded spatial domain never explode. We consider the case where $σ$ grows polynomially and $f$ is polynomially dissipative, meaning that $f$ strongly forces solutions toward finite values. This result demonstrates the role that the deterministic forcing term $f$ plays in preventing explosion.
Semilinear stochastic evolution equations with multiplicative Poisson noise and monotone nonlinear drift are considered. We do not impose coercivity conditions on coefficients. A novel method of proof for establishing existence and uniqueness of the mild solution is proposed. Examples on stochastic partial differential equations and stochastic delay differential equations are provided to demonstrate the theory developed.
We describe sufficient conditions on the reaction terms and multiplicative noise terms of a stochastic reaction-diffusion equation that guarantee that the solutions never explode. Both the reaction term and multiplicative noise terms are allowed to grow superlinearly.
We prove pathwise uniqueness and strong existence of solutions for stochastic reaction-diffusion systems with locally Lipschitz continuous reaction term of polynomial growth and Hölder continuous multiplicative noise. Under additional assumptions on the coefficients, we also prove positivity of the solutions.
We prove absolute continuity of the law of the solution, evaluated at fixed points in time and space, to a parabolic dissipative stochastic PDE on $L^2(G)$, where $G$ is an open bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with smooth boundary. The equation is driven by a multiplicative Wiener noise and the nonlinear drift term is the superposition operator associated to a real function which is assumed to be monotone, locally Lipschitz continuous, and growing not faster than a polynomial. The proof, which uses arguments of the Malliavin calculus, crucially relies on the well-posedness theory in the mild …
We prove existence, uniqueness and Lipschitz dependence on the initial datum for mild solutions of stochastic partial differential equations with Lipschitz coefficients driven by Wiener and Poisson noise. Under additional assumptions, we prove Gateaux and Frechet differentiability of solutions with respect to the initial datum. As an application, we obtain gradient estimates for the resolvent associated to the mild solution. Finally, we prove the strong Feller property of the associated semigroup.
Semilinear stochastic evolution equations with Lévy noise and monotone nonlinear drift are considered. The existence and uniqueness of the mild solutions in $L^p$ for these equations is proved and a sufficient condition for exponential asymptotic stability of the solutions is derived. The main tool in our study is an Itô type inequality for the $p$th power of stochastic convolution integrals in Hilbert spaces.
In this paper, we established a quadratic transportation cost inequality for solutions of stochastic reaction diffusion equations driven by multiplicative space-time white noise based on a new inequality we proved for the moments (under the uniform norm) of the stochastic convolution with respect to space-time white noise, which is of independent interest. The solutions of such stochastic partial differential equations are typically not semimartingales on the state space.
We consider stochastic reaction-diffusion equations on a finite network represented by a finite graph. On each edge in the graph a multiplicative cylindrical Gaussian noise driven reaction-diffusion equation is given supplemented by a dynamic Kirchhoff-type law perturbed by multiplicative scalar Gaussian noise in the vertices. The reaction term on each edge is assumed to be an odd degree polynomial, not necessarily of the same degree on each edge, with possibly stochastic coefficients and negative leading term. We utilize the semigroup approach for stochastic evolution equations in Banach spac…
We establish the existence of weak martingale solutions to a class of second order parabolic stochastic partial differential equations. The equations are driven by multiplicative jump type noise, with a non-Lipschitz multiplicative functional. The drift in the equations contains a dissipative nonlinearity of polynomial growth.
This article studies the dynamics of a nonlinear dissipative reaction-diffusion equation with well-separated stable states which is perturbed by infinite-dimensional multiplicative Lévy noise with a regularly varying component at intensity $ε>0$. The main results establish the precise asymptotics of the first exit times and locus of the solution $X^ε$ from the domain of attraction of a deterministic stable state, in the limit as $ε\rightarrow 0$. In contrast to the exponential growth for respective Gaussian perturbations the exit times grow essentially as a power function of the noise intensit…
Let $ξ(t\,,x)$ denote space-time white noise and consider a reaction-diffusion equation of the form \[ \dot{u}(t\,,x)=\tfrac12 u"(t\,,x) + b(u(t\,,x)) + σ(u(t\,,x)) ξ(t\,,x), \] on $\mathbb{R}_+\times[0\,,1]$, with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions and suitable initial data, in the case that there exists $\varepsilon>0$ such that $\vert b(z)\vert \ge|z|(\log|z|)^{1+\varepsilon}$ for all sufficiently-large values of $|z|$. When $σ\equiv 0$, it is well known that such PDEs frequently have non-trivial stationary solutions. By contrast, Bonder and Groisman (2009) have recently shown that t…
In this paper we prove the local existence and uniqueness of solutions for a class of stochastic fractional partial differential equations driven by multiplicative noise. We also establish that for this class of equations adding linear multiplicative noise provides a regularizing effect: the solutions will not blow up with high probability if the initial data is sufficiently small, or if the noise coefficient is sufficiently large. As applications our main results are applied to various types of SPDE such as stochastic reaction-diffusion equations, stochastic fractional Burgers equation, stoch…
We consider a stochastic process with long-range dependence perturbed by multiplicative noise. The marginal distributions of both the original process and the noise have regularly-varying tails, with tail indices $α,α'>0$, respectively. The original process is taken as the regularly-varying Karlin model, a recently investigated model that has long-range dependence characterized by a memory parameter $β\in(0,1)$. We establish limit theorems for the extremes of the model, and reveal a phase transition. In terms of the limit there are three different regimes: signal-dominance regime $α<α'β$, nois…
In this paper, we study a class of slow-fast stochastic partial differential equations with multiplicative Wiener noise. Under some appropriate conditions, we prove the slow component converges to the solution of the corresponding averaged equation with optimal orders 1/2 and 1 in the strong and weak sense respectively. The main technique is based on the Poisson equation.
It is well known that stochastically modeled reaction networks that are complex balanced admit a stationary distribution that is a product of Poisson distributions. In this paper, we consider the following related question: supposing that the initial distribution of a stochastically modeled reaction network is a product of Poissons, under what conditions will the distribution remain a product of Poissons for all time? By drawing inspiration from Crispin Gardiner's "Poisson representation" for the solution to the chemical master equation, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for such…
Stochastic reaction networks are dynamical models of biochemical reaction systems and form a particular class of continuous-time Markov chains on $\mathbb{N}^n$. Here we provide a fundamental characterisation that connects structural properties of a network to its dynamical features. Specifically, we define the notion of `stochastically complex balanced systems' in terms of the network's stationary distribution and provide a characterisation of stochastically complex balanced systems, parallel to that established in the 70-80ies for deterministic reaction networks. Additionally, we establish t…
We prove that an averaging principle holds for a general class of stochastic reaction-diffusion systems, having unbounded multiplicative noise, in any space dimension. We show that the classical Khasminskii approach for systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom can be extended to infinite dimensional systems.
Due to technical reasons, existing results concerning Harnack type inequalities for SPDEs with multiplicative noise apply only to the case where the coefficient in the noise term is an Hilbert-Schmidt perturbation of a fixed bounded operator. In this paper we investigate a class of semi-linear SPDEs with strongly multiplicative noise whose coefficient is even allowed to be unbounded which is thus no way to be Hilbert-Schmidt. Gradient estimates, log-Harnack inequality and applications are derived. Applications to stochastic reaction-diffusion equations driven by space-time white noise are pres…
Consider the stochastic reaction-diffusion equation with logarithmic nonlinearity driven by space-time white noise: \begin{align}\label{1.a} \left\{ \begin{aligned} & \mathrm{d}u(t,x) = \frac{1}{2}Δu(t,x)\,\mathrm{d}t+ b(u(t,x)) \,\mathrm{d}t \nonumber\\ & ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ + σ(u(t,x)) \,W(\mathrm{d}t,\mathrm{d}x), \ t>0, x\in I , \\ & u(0,x)=u_0(x), \quad x\in I .\nonumber \end{aligned} \right. \end{align} When $I$ is a compact interval, say $I=[0,1]$, the well-posedness of the above equation was established in [DKZ] (Ann. Prob. 47:1,2019). The case where $I=\mathbb{R}$ was left open. The esse…

We prove the existence of density for the solution to the multiplicative semilinear stochastic heat equation on an unbounded spatial domain, with drift term satisfying a half-Lipschitz type condition. The methodology is based on a careful analysis of differentiability for a map defined on weighted functional spaces.
We study the stability of reaction-diffusion equations in presence of noise. The relationship of stability of solutions between the stochastic ordinary different equations and the corresponding stochastic reaction-diffusion equation is firstly established. Then, by using the Lyapunov method, sufficient conditions for mean square and stochastic stability are given. The results show that the multiplicative noise can make the solution stable, but the additive noise will be not.
The Freidlin-Wentzell large deviation principle is established for the distributions of stochastic evolution equations with general monotone drift and small multiplicative noise. As examples, the main results are applied to derive the large deviation principle for different types of SPDE such as stochastic reaction-diffusion equations, stochastic porous media equations and fast diffusion equations, and the stochastic p-Laplace equation in Hilbert space. The weak convergence approach is employed in the proof to establish the Laplace principle, which is equivalent to the large deviation principl…
We extend the result on the stability of travelling waves for stochastic Nagumo equations in [St] to general bistable reaction-diffusion equations with both additive and multiplicative noise, using a variational approach based on functional inequalities. Our analysis yields explicit estimates on the rate of stability that can be shown in special examples to be optimal. We consider a reaction-diffusion equation on a network subjected to dynamic boundary conditions, with time delayed behaviour, also allowing for multiplicative Gaussian noise perturbations. Exploiting semigroup theory, we rewrite the aforementioned stochastic problem as an abstract stochastic partial differential equation taking values in a suitable product Hilbert space, for which we prove the existence and uniqueness of a mild solution. Eventually, a stochastic optimal control application is studied.
In this paper we develop a metastability theory for a class of stochastic reaction-diffusion equations exposed to small multiplicative noise. We consider the case where the unperturbed reaction-diffusion equation features multiple asymptotically stable equilibria. When the system is exposed to small stochastic perturbations, it is likely to stay near one equilibrium for a long period of time, but will eventually transition to the neighborhood of another equilibrium. We are interested in studying the exit time from the full domain of attraction (in a function space) surrounding an equilibrium a…
We consider the stochastic heat equation with multiplicative noise $u_t={1/2}Δu+ u \diamond \dot{W}$ in $\bR_{+} \times \bR^d$, where $\diamond$ denotes the Wick product, and the solution is interpreted in the mild sense. The noise $\dot W$ is fractional in time (with Hurst index $H \geq 1/2$), and colored in space (with spatial covariance kernel $f$). We prove that if $f$ is the Riesz kernel of order $α$, or the Bessel kernel of order $α<d$, then the sufficient condition for the existence of the solution is $d \leq 2+α$ (if $H>1/2$), respectively $d<2+α$ (if $H=1/2$), whereas if $f$ is the he…
We consider strong convergence of the finite differences approximation in space for stochastic reaction diffusion equations with multiplicative noise under a one-sided Lipschitz condition only. We derive convergence with an implicit rate depending on the regularity of the exact solution. This can be made explicit if the variational solution has more than its canonical spatial regularity. As an application, spatially extended FitzHugh-Nagumo systems with noise are considered.
We investigate stochastic reaction-diffusion equations on finite metric graphs. On each edge in the graph a multiplicative cylindrical Gaussian noise driven reaction-diffusion equation is given. The vertex conditions are the standard continuity and generalized, non-local Neumann-Kirchhoff-type law in each vertex. The reaction term on each edge is assumed to be an odd degree polynomial, not necessarily of the same degree on each edge, with possibly stochastic coefficients and negative leading term. The model is a generalization of the problem in [14] where polynomials with much more restrictive…
Fokker-Planck equations describe time evolution of probability densities of stochastic dynamical systems and play an important role in quantifying propagation and evolution of uncertainty. Although Fokker-Planck equations can be written explicitly for nonlinear dynamical systems excited by Gaussian white noise, they are not available in general for nonlinear dynamical systems excited by multiplicative non-Gaussian white noise. Marcus stochastic differential equations are often appropriate models in engineering and physics for stochastic dynamical systems excited by non-Gaussian white noise. In…
The convective Brinkman-Forchheimer equations describe the motion of incompressible fluid flows in a saturated porous medium. This work examines the multiscale stochastic convective Brinkman-Forchheimer (SCBF) equations perturbed by multiplicative Gaussian noise in two and three dimensional bounded domains. We establish a strong averaging principle for the stochastic 2D SCBF equations, which contains a fast time scale component governed by a stochastic reaction-diffusion equation with damping driven by multiplicative Gaussian noise. We exploit the Khasminkii's time discretization approach in t…
In 2010, Anderson, Craciun, and Kurtz showed that if a deterministically modeled reaction network is complex balanced, then the associated stochastic model admits a stationary distribution that is a product of Poissons \cite{ACK2010}. That work spurred a number of followup analyses. In 2015, Anderson, Craciun, Gopalkrishnan, and Wiuf considered a particular scaling limit of the stationary distribution detailed in \cite{ACK2010}, and proved it is a well known Lyapunov function \cite{ACGW2015}. In 2016, Cappelletti and Wiuf showed the converse of the main result in \cite{ACK2010}: if a reaction …
