We construct a supersymmetric model with the flavor symmetry D14 in which the CKM matrix element |V_{ud}| can take the value |V_{ud}| =cos (pi/14) = 0.97493 implying that the Cabibbo angle theta_C is sin (theta_C) = |V_{us}| = sin (pi/14) = 0.2225. These values are very close to those observed in experiments. The value of |V_{ud}| (theta_C) is based on the fact that different Z2 subgroups of D14 are conserved in the up and down quark sector. In order to achieve this, D14 is accompanied by a Z3 symmetry. The spontaneous breaking of D14 is induced by flavons, which are scalar gauge singlets. The quark mass hierarchy is partly due to the flavor group D14 and partly due to a Froggatt-Nielsen symmetry U(1)_{FN} under which only the right-handed quarks transform. The model is completely natural in the sense that the hierarchies among the quark masses and mixing angles are generated with the help of symmetries. The issue of the vacuum alignment of the flavons is solved up to a small number of degeneracies, leaving four different possible values for |V_{ud}|. Out of these, only one of them leads to a phenomenological viable model. A study of the Z2 subgroup breaking terms shows that the results achieved in the symmetry limit are only slightly perturbed. At the same time they allow |V_{ud}| (theta_C) to be well inside the small experimental error bars.
The use of the binary tetrahedral group ($T^{'}$) as flavor symmetry is discussed. I emphasize the CKM quark and PMNS neutrino mixings. I present a novel formula for the Cabibbo angle.
The quark mixing matrix is parameterised such that its "Cabibbo substructure" is emphasised. One can choose one of the parameters to be an arbitrarily chosen angle of the unitarity triangle, for example the angle $β$ (also called $Φ_1$).
Recent measurements of the neutrino mixing angles cast doubt on the validity of the so-far popular tri-bimaximal mixing ansatz. We propose a parametrization for the neutrino mixing matrix where the reactor angle seeds the large solar and atmospheric mixing angles, equal to each other in first approximation. We suggest such bi-large mixing pattern as a model building standard, realized when the leading order value of the reactor angle equals the Cabibbo angle.
It has been shown that the Cabibbo angle can be predicted in terms of group theoretical quantities, if the dihedral group D14 plays the role of a flavor symmetry. We extend a supersymmetric D14 model to the lepton sector and show that theta^nu_13 and the deviation of theta^nu_23 from maximal mixing in the neutrino sector originate, similar to the Cabibbo angle in the quark sector, from a mismatch of different subgroups of D14 and are of the size of the Cabibbo angle. The mixing angles in the charged lepton sector are small. Thus, the lepton mixing angle theta^l_13 is naturally in its experimen…
We point out that testing the equality of the Cabibbo angle as extracted from $Γ(K\rightarrow πlν)$, the ratio $Γ(K\rightarrow lν)/Γ(π\rightarrow lν)$ and nuclear $β$ decays is not identical to a test of first row unitarity of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix. The reason is that a CKM unitarity test involves only two parameters, while the degrees of freedom for the assessment of the goodness-of-fit of the universality of the Cabibbo angle entailed by the Standard Model (SM) is equal to the number of measurements minus one. Beyond the SM all different processes could in principle give…
The Cabibbo Angle Anomaly, an apparent deficit in first-row CKM unitarity, can be addressed by leptophilic Standard Model extensions that generate new contributions to the Fermi constant and affect the determination of the CKM element $V_{ud}$. We focus on simplified models with this property, including the Standard Model extended by vectorlike leptons, by the singly charged scalar singlet, or by a leptophilic $Z'$ boson.
In a two Higgs-doublet model with $D_4$ flavor symmetry, we establish a relation between $\tanβ$ and the Cabibbo angle. Due to a small number of parameters, the quark Yukawa sector of the model is very predictive. The flavor changing neutral currents are small enough to allow for relatively light nonstandard scalars to pass through the flavor constraints.
In a simplified renormalizable model where the neutrinos have PMNS (Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata) mixings tan$^{2} θ_{12} = {1/2}, θ_{13}=0, θ_{23} = π/4$ and with flavor symmetry $T^{'}$ there is a corresponding prediction where the quarks have CKM (Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa) mixings tan$2 Θ_{12} = \frac{\sqrt{2}}{3}, Θ_{13}=0, Θ_{23} =0$.
A model-independent ansatz to describe lepton and quark mixing in a unified way is suggested based upon the Cabibbo angle. In our framework neutrinos mix in a "Bi-Large" fashion, while the charged leptons mix as the "down-type" quarks do. In addition to the standard Wolfenstein parameters (lambda, A) two other free parameters are needed to specify the physical lepton mixing matrix. Through this simple assumption one makes specific predictions for the atmospheric angle as well as leptonic CP violation in good agreement with current observations.
Significant deviations from the Standard Model are observed in semileptonic charged and neutral-current B-decays, the muon magnetic moment, and the extraction of the Cabibbo angle. We propose that these deviations point towards a coherent pattern of New Physics effects induced by two scalar mediators, a leptoquark $S_1$ and a charged singlet $ϕ^+$. While $S_1$ can provide solutions to charged-current $B$-decays and the muon magnetic moment, and $ϕ^+$ can accommodate the Cabibbo-angle anomaly independently, their one-loop level synergy can also address neutral-current $B$-decays. This framework…
We explore the generation of fermion masses and quark mixing angles within flavored gauge mediation models of supersymmetry breaking in which the Higgs and messenger doublets are connected by a discrete non-Abelian symmetry. In this framework, the Higgs-messenger symmetry, which we take for concreteness to be the discrete group $\mathcal{S}_3$, also plays the role of a (partial) family symmetry. We investigate mechanisms for generating mass hierarchies for the lighter quark generations and generating the Cabibbo angle within this class of models. While perturbations of the couplings at the ren…
Maximally extending the Higgs sector of the Glashow-Salam-Weinberg model by including all scalar and pseudoscalar J=0 states expected for 2 generations of quarks, I demonstrate that the Cabibbo angle is given by tan^2(theta_c) = (1/m_K^2-1/m_D^2)/(1/m_π^2-1/m_{D_s}^2) \approx (m_π^2 /m_K^2)(1-m_K^2/m_D^2 + m_π^2/m_{D_s}^2).
We phenomenologically build a neutrino mass matrix obeying $μ-τ$ symmetry with only two parameters, Cabibbo angle $(λ)$ and a flavour twister parameter $(η)$. For vanishing $η$, the model assumes TBM mixing. When $η=λ$, the model generates a solar mixing angle and solar mass squared difference that coincide with the experimental best-fits. It motivates us to propose a mixing matrix in the neutrino sector with $ sinθ_{12}<\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}$, $θ_{13}=0$ and $θ_{23}=π/4$. The corrections in $θ_{13}$ and $θ_{23}$ are conducted following the breaking of $μ-τ$ symmetry, by choosing a proper unitary…
We review the recent experimental and theoretical progress in the determination of |V_{ud}| and |V_{us}|, and the status of the most stringent test of CKM unitarity. Future prospects on |V_{cd}| and |V_{cs}| are also briefly discussed.
We explore the hypothesis that the Cabibbo angle is an expansion parameter for lepton as well as quark mixing. Cabibbo effects are deviations from zero mixing for the quarks but are deviations from unknown mixings for the leptons, such that lepton mixing is veiled by a Cabibbo haze. We present a systematic classification of parametrizations and catalog the leading order Cabibbo effects. We find that the size of the CHOOZ angle is not always correlated with the observability of CP violation. This phenomenological approach has practical merit both as a method for organizing top-down flavor model…
We adopt a bottom-up approach to reconstruct the possible neutrino mass matrix patterns, in the hypothesis that $λ= \sin θ_C$, where $θ_C$ is the Cabibbo angle, is a useful expansion parameter in the neutrino sector as it is in the quark sector. A numerical analysis of these Cabibbo structures shows that an inverted hierarchy spectrum is statistically favored by the neutrino oscillation data. We then discuss how apparently conflicting mass and mixing data for quarks, charged leptons and neutrinos can fit in a unified perspective. We show that large mixing angles can appear through the seesaw m…
Quark-lepton unification suggests Cabibbo-sized effects in lepton mixings, which we call Cabibbo haze. We give simple examples and explore possible Wolfenstein-like parametrizations of the MNSP matrix which incorporate leptonic Cabibbo shifts. We find that the size of the CHOOZ angle is not always correlated with the observability of CP violation.
We present a flavor model of quarks and leptons with the non-Abelian discrete symmetry $S_4$ in the framework of the SU(5) SUSY GUT. Three generations of $\bar 5$-plets in SU(5) are assigned to ${\bf 3}$ of $S_4$ while the first and second generations of 10-plets in SU(5) are assigned to ${\bf 2}$ of $S_4$, and the third generation of 10-plet is assigned to ${\bf 1}$ of $S_4$. Right-handed neutrinos are also assigned to ${\bf 2}$ for the first and second generations and ${\bf 1}'$ for the third generation. We predict the Cabibbo angle as well as the tri-bimaximal mixing of neutrino flavors. We…
I discuss some general aspects of diagonalizing the quark mass matrices and list all possible parametrizations of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix (CKM) in terms of three rotation angles and a phase. I systematically study the relation between the rotations needed to diagonalize the Yukawa matrices and various parametrizations of the CKM.
Recent measurements of the lepton mixing angle $θ_{13}$ by the Daya Bay and RENO reactor experiments are consistent with the relationship $θ_{13}\approx θ_C/\sqrt{2}$ where $ θ_C$ is the Cabibbo angle. We propose Tri-bimaximal-Cabibbo (TBC) mixing, in which $\sin θ_{13}= \sin θ_C/\sqrt{2}$, $\sin θ_{23}= 1/\sqrt{2}$ and $\sin θ_{12}= 1/\sqrt{3}$. We show that TBC mixing may arise approximately from Tri-bimaximal, Bi-maximal or Golden Ratio neutrino mixing, together with Cabibbo-like charged lepton corrections arising from a Pati-Salam gauge group, leading to predictions for the CP-violating ph…
Based on the relation between CP-violation phase and the other three mixing angles in Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix postulated by us before, a new constraint on the parameters of Wolfenstein's parametrization is given. The result is consistent with the relative experimental results and can be further put to the more precise tests in future.
We examine the problem of generation mixing in realistic superstring derived standard--like models, constructed in the free fermionic formulation. We study the possible sources of family mixing in these models . In a specific model we estimate the Cabibbo angle. We argue that a Cabibbo angle of the correct order of magnitude can be obtained in these models.
In this work, the postulation that weak CP phase originates in a certain geometry, is further discussed. According to this postulation, the weak CP phase is determined by three mixing angles. So, if we can determine experimentally three elements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, we can then determine the whole CKM matrix and correspondingly, the unitarity triangle. We find that the angle gamma is about pi/2 and the weak CP phase delta (delta_{13}) only can exist in the first or fourth quadrant. The conclusions coincide with the relevant analysis. Some other predictions are given in this…
We show that the Cabibbo angle theta\_c satisfies the relation tan(2 theta\_c)=-+/- 1/2 when universality for diagonal neutral currents of mass eigenstates is satisfied at the same level of accuracy as the absence of their off-diagonal counterparts. The predicted value is cos theta\_c \approx 0.9732, only 7/10000 away from experimental results. No mass ratio appears in the calculation. theta\_c occurs a priori for both quark species, and, showing that one recovers the standard dependence of leptonic and semi-leptonic decays of pseudoscalar mesons, we advocate, like for neutrinos and charged le…
We propose a simple model to simultaneously explain four observed flavor anomalies while generating the neutrino mass at the one-loop level. Specifically, we address the measured anomalous magnetic dipole moments of the muon, $Δa_μ$ , and electron, $Δa_e$, the observed anomaly of $b\rightarrow s l^+ l^-$ in the $B$-meson decays, and the Cabibbo-angle anomaly. The model consists of four colorful new degrees of freedom: three scalar leptoquarks with the Standard Model quantum numbers $(3,3,-1/3),(3,2,1/6)$, and $(3,1,2/3)$, and one pair of down-quark-like vector fermion in $(3,1,-1/3)$. The bary…
From two different modifications of the Gell-Mann-Okubo mass relation for (1/2)^+ baryons: the first one given by a version of diquark-quark model and the second one being the optimal mass sum rule obtained by using quantum groups U_q(su_n) for the role of hadronic flavor symmetries, we find direct connection of the mass parameters of the diquark-quark model of Lichtenberg, Tassie and Keleman to the (proper value of) q-parameter and then to the Cabibbo angle.
We study two-body weak hadronic decays of ψand Upsilon employing the factorization scheme. Branching ratios for ψ-> PP/PV and Υ-> PP/PV decays in the Cabibbo-angle-enhanced and Cabibbo-angle-suppressed modes are predicted.
A grand unified $SU(5)$ theory is constructed with a hierarchical breaking of a $U(2)$ flavor symmetry. The small parameters of the squark and slepton mass matrices, necessary to solve the supersymmetric flavor-changing problem, and the inter-generational quark and lepton mass hierarchies are both generated from the $U(2)$ symmetry breaking parameters. The flavor interactions of the theory are tightly constrained, with just 10 free real parameters for both the fermion and scalar sectors. All but one of the 8 small fermion mass ratios, and all of the 3 small Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa mixing ang…
In view of the new data from the Daya Bay and RENO collaborations, King has presented a very natural deformation of tri-bimaximal mixing. Here we show that L/E flatness of the e-like event ratio in the atmospheric neutrino data, when coupled with King's observation that the smallest neutrino mixing angle, θ_{13}, seems to be related to the largest quark mixing angle (the Cabibbo angle θ_C), leads to a CP violating tri-bimaximal-Cabibbo mixing. King's tri-bimaximal-Cabibbo mixing follows as a leading order approximation from our result.
We present neutrino mass matrix textures in a minimal framework of the type-I seesaw mechanism where two right-handed Majorana neutrinos are introduced in order to reproduce experimental results of neutrino oscillations. The textures can lead to experimentally favored leptonic mixing angles described by the tri-bimaximal mixing with one additional rotation. We present minimal and next to minimal textures for the normal mass hierarchy case in a context of the texture zero. A minimal texture in the inverted hierarchy case is also constructed, which does not have any vanishing entries in a Dirac …
We show that 1-loop transitions between two quasi-degenerate fermions can induce a potentially large renormalization of their mixing angle, and a large renormalized Cabibbo (or PMNS) angle when the second fermion pair in the same two generations is far from degeneracy. At the resonance, the "Cabibbo angle" gets maximal and simply connected to masses without invoking any new physics beyond the standard model. This solution appears as the only one "perturbatively stable" (mixing angles are then renormalized with respect to their classical values by small amounts).
The singly charged $SU(2)_L$ singlet scalar, with its necessarily flavour violating couplings to leptons, lends itself particularly well for an explanation of the Cabibbo Angle Anomaly and of hints for lepton flavour universality violation in $τ\to μ\bar νν$. In a setup addressing both anomalies, we predict loop-induced effects in $τ\to eγ$ and in $τ\to eμμ$. A recast of ATLAS selectron and smuon searches allows us to derive a coupling-independent lower limit of $\approx 200$ GeV on the mass of the singly charged singlet scalar. At a future $e^+e^-$ collider, dark matter mono-photon searches c…
Spontaneously broken flavor symmetry involving the binary tetrahedral group $T^{'}$ relates parameters in the standard model. In one example the CP violating Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata phase $δ_{PMNS}$ and atmospheric mixing angle $θ_{23}$ of neutrinos are related to the Cabibbo mixing angle $Θ_C$ for quarks. A second formula relates a ratio of neutrino mass eigenvalues to the Cabibbo angle.
A natural procedure is presented to measure the angle $γ$ from the decay $B^{\pm} \to π^{\pm}π^+π^-$. It is based in the Dalitz plot fitting analysis. Neither amplitudes nor strong phases have to be known a priori. We present simulations of this decay computing both statistical and theoretical uncertainties and analyze the experimental feasibility. We found that $γ$ could be measured with a combined error of the order of 20$^o$ with 90% of CL after about a couple of years of running of the first generation of B factories.
The determinations of the Cabibbo angle from kaon, pion, $D$ and tau decays disagree with the one from super-allowed beta decays. The resulting $\approx 3\,σ$ deficit in first row (but also first column) CKM unitarity is known as the Cabibbo angle anomaly (CAA). Determining $V_{ud}$ from beta decays requires knowledge of the Fermi constant $G_F$, usually extracted from muon decay. However, because new physics might also affect muon decay, and thus the determination of the Fermi constant, an interesting interplay with the global electroweak fit arises where $G_F$ is a crucial input. In these pr…
The interference between Cabibbo-favoured and Cabibbo-suppressed $B\to Dπ$ decay amplitudes provides sensitivity to the CKM angle $γ$. The relative size of the interfering amplitudes is an important ingredient in the determination of $γ$. Using branching fractions from various $B\to Dh$ decays, and the measured value for $r_{B}^{DK}$, the magnitude of the amplitude ratio of $B^+\to D^0π^+$ and $B^+\to \bar{D}^0π^+$ decays is estimated to be $r_{B}^{Dπ} = 0.0053 \pm 0.0007$.
Recently, discrepancies of up to $4\,σ$ between the different determinations of the Cabibbo angle were observed. This "Cabibbo-angle anomaly" could be explained by lepton flavour universality (LFU) violating New Physics (NP) in the neutrino sector. However, modified neutrino couplings to Standard Model gauge bosons also affect many other observables sensitive to LFU violation which have to be taken into account in order to assess the viability of this explanation. Therefore, we perform a model-independent global analysis in a Bayesian approach and find that the tension in the Cabibbo angle is …

We examine the problem of three generation quark flavor mixing in realistic, superstring derived standard--like models, constructed in the free fermionic formulation. We study the sources of family mixing in these models and discuss the necessary conditions to obtain a realistic Cabibbo--Kobayashi--Maskawa (CKM) mixing matrix. In a specific model, we estimate the mixing angles and discuss the weak CP violating phase. We argue that the superstring standard--like models can produce a realistic CKM mixing matrix. We discuss the possible textures of quark mass matrices that may be obtained in thes…
Investigating, in direct continuation of our previous paper hep-ph/0606303 the implications of the non-unitarity of mixing matrices for non-degenerate coupled systems that we demonstrated there, we examine more accurately the vicinity of Cabibbo-like mixing in quantum field theory. We show that it is possible to preserve one of its main features, namely that, in the space of mass eigenstates, the two requirements -- of universality for weak diagonal currents and -- of the absence of their non-diagonal counterparts, although not fulfilled separately any more, can however reduce to a single cond…
We propose a first model of quarks based on the discrete family symmetry Delta (6N^2) in which the Cabibbo angle is correctly determined by a residual Z_2 times Z_2 subgroup, and the smaller quark mixing angles may be qualitatively understood from the model. The present model of quarks may be regarded as a first step towards formulating a complete model of quarks and leptons based on Delta (6N^2), in which the lepton mixing matrix is fully determined by a Klein subgroup. For example, the choice N=28 provides an accurate determination of both the reactor angle and the Cabibbo angle.
We propose a model of quark and lepton mixing based on the tetrahedral A(4) family symmetry with quark-lepton unification via the tetra-colour Pati-Salam gauge group SU(4)_{PS}, together with SU(2)_L x U(1)_R. The "tetra-model" solves many of the flavour puzzles and remarkably gives ten predictions at leading order, including all six PMNS parameters. The Cabibbo angle is approximately given by 1/4, due to the tetra-vacuum alignment (1,4,2), providing the Cabibbo connection between quark and lepton mixing. Higher order corrections are responsible for the smaller quark mixing angles and CP viola…
The Cabibbo-Cobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix parametrizes the misalignement between the up- and down-quark mass basis in the Standard Model (SM). The observation of first row CKM unitarity violation has recently emerged as a new anomaly of the SM, known as the "Cabibbo Angle Anomaly" (CAA). With current measurements, comparing the elements $V_{ud}$ and $V_{us}$ extracted from beta and kaon decays respectively, the tension with the SM prediction amounts to $\sim$$3\,σ$. Recently, it has been pointed out that this anomaly can also be seen as a discrepancy in the determination of the Fermi constant…
We present a framework to generate the quark mass hierarchies and mixing angles by extending the Standard Model with one extra Higgs doublet. The charm and strange quark masses are generated by small quantum effects, thus explaining the hierarchy between the second and third generation quark masses. All the mixing angles are also generated by small quantum effects: the Cabibbo angle is generated at zero-th order in perturbation theory, while the remaining off-diagonal entries of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix are generated at first order, hence explaining the observed hierarchy $|V_{ub}|…
We study the general dependence of mixing angles on heavy fermion masses when mass hierarchies exist among the fermions. For two generations and small Cabibbo angle, this angle is directly shown to scale like $μ_1/m_s \pm μ_2/m_c$, where $|μ_1| \ll m_s, |μ_2| \ll m_c$ are independent mass scales. For $n=3$ generations, we extend to the Yukawa matrices of $u$- and $d$-type quarks the property that the $2\times 2$ upper-left sub-matrix of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix $K$ is a good approximation to the Cabibbo matrix $C$. Then, without any additional Ansatz concerning the existence of mas…
A parameter free, model independent analysis of quark mass matrices is carried out. We find a representation in terms of a diagonal mass matrix for the down (up) quarks and a suitable matrix for the up (down) quarks, such that the mass parameters only depend on the six quark masses and the three angles and phase appearing in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix. The results found may also be applied to the Dirac mass matrices of the leptons.
There are two tensions related to the Cabibbo angle of the CKM matrix. First, the determinations of $V_{us}$ from $K_{μ2}$, $K_{\ell3}$, and $τ$ decays disagree at the $3σ$ level. Second, using the average of these results in combination with $β$ decays (including super-allowed $β$ decays and neutron decay), a deficit in first-row CKM unitarity with a significance of again about $3σ$ is found. These discrepancies, known as the Cabibbo Angle anomaly, can in principle be solved by modifications of $W$ boson couplings to quarks. However, due to $SU(2)_L$ invariance, $Z$ couplings to quarks are al…
New developments in both the theories and experiments related to the extraction of the top-row Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements $V_{ud}$ and $V_{us}$ led to a series of new anomalies, for instance the apparent violation of the top-row unitarity relation. It is important to further reduce all the associated Standard Model theory uncertainties in order to better understand whether such observations point towards the possibility of physics beyond the Standard Model, or rather some unexpectedly large Standard Model effects. This requires improved studies of tree-level and higher-order Sta…
We establish the existence of one-loop finite relations between the Cabibbo angle and the quark mass ratios, in the Standard Model with one Higgs doublet and two quark generations. Assuming a simple quark-lepton universality, we use the recent SNO results to predict the two-flavour mass spectrum of the neutrinos.
We give the detailed analysis of effects of flavor dependence of average transverse quark momentum inside a meson on J/psi --> P and Υ--> Bc transition form factors and two-body weak hadronic decays of J/psi and Υemploying the factorization scheme. We predict the branching ratios of semileptonic and nonleptonic weak decays of J/psi and Υmesons in Cabibbo-angle-enhanced and Cabibbo-angle-suppressed modes.
The Gronau-London-Wyler (GLW) method extracts the CKM angle $γ$ by measuring $B^\pm$ decay rates involving $D^0/\overline D^0$ mesons. Since that method necessitates the interference between two amplitudes that are significantly different in magnitude, the resulting asymmetries tend to be small. CP violation can be greatly enhanced for decays to final states that are common to both D^0 and $\overline D^0$ and that are not CP eigenstates. In particular, large asymmetries are possible for final states f such that $D^0\to f$ is doubly Cabibbo suppressed while $\overline D^0\to f$ is Cabibbo allow…
Treating hadronic flavor symmetries with quantum algebras U_q(su_n) leads to interesting consequences such as: new mass sum rules for hadrons 1^-, (1/2)^+, (3/2)^+ of improved accuracy; possibility to label different flavors topologically - by torus winding number; properly fixed deformation parameter q in case of baryons is linked in a simplest way to the Cabibbo angle θ_C, that suggests for θ_C the exact value π/{14}. In this connection, we discuss the possibility that this angle and the Cabibbo mixing as a whole take its origin in noncommutativity of some additional, with regard to 3+1, spa…
We perform a systematical and analytical study of lepton mixing which can be derived from the subgroups of $SU(3)$ under the assumption that neutrinos are Dirac particles. We find that type D groups can predict lepton mixing patterns compatible with the experimental data at $3σ$ level. The lepton mixing matrix turns out to be of the trimaximal form, and the Dirac CP violating phase is trivial. Moreover, we extend the flavor symmetry to the quark sector. The Cabibbo mixing between the first two generations of quarks can be generated by type D groups. Since all the finite subgroups of $U(3)$ whi…
The most statistically significant hints for new physics in the flavor sector are discrepancies between theory and experiment in $B$ decays to lepton pairs ($b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$) and a deficit in $1^{\rm st}$ row CKM unitarity (the Cabibbo Angle anomaly). We propose that these anomalies can be reconciled by a simplified model with massive gauge bosons transforming in the adjoint representation of $SU(2)_L$. After calculating the impact of this model on $B$ decays, observables testing charged current lepton flavor universality (LFU), electro-weak precision observables and LHC searches we perfor…
There is experimental evidence for a direct CP asymmetry in singly Cabibbo suppressed D decays, ΔA_{CP} \sim 0.006. Naive expectations are that the Standard Model contribution to ΔA_{CP} is an order of magnitude smaller. We explore the possibility that a major part of the symmetry comes from supersymmetric contributions. The leading candidates are models where the flavor structure of the trilinear scalar couplings is related to the structure of the Yukawa couplings via approximate flavor symmetries, particularly U(1), [U(1)]^2 and U(2). The recent hints for a lightest neutral Higgs boson with …
In addition to the existing strong indications for lepton flavour university violation (LFUV) in low energy precision experiments, CMS recently released an analysis of non-resonant di-lepton pairs which could constitute the first sign of LFUV in high-energy LHC searches. In this article we show that the Cabibbo angle anomaly, an (apparent) violation of first row and column CKM unitarity with $\approx3\,σ$ significance, and the CMS result can be correlated and commonly explained in a model independent way by the operator $[Q_{\ell q}^{(3)}]_{1111} = (\bar{\ell}_1γ^μσ^I\ell_1)(\bar{q}_1γ_μσ^Iq_1…
