In quantum information theory, von Neumann entropy plays an important role. The entropies can be obtained analytically only for a few states. In continuous variable system, even evaluating entropy numerically is not an easy task since the dimension is infinite. We develop the perturbation theory systematically for calculating von Neumann entropy of non-degenerate systems as well as degenerate systems. The result turns out to be a practical way of the expansion calculation of von Neumann entropy.
We explore the relation between the von Neumann entropy and the Renyi entropies of integer orders for shift-invariant quasi-free Fermionic lattice systems. We investigate approximating the von Neumann entropy by a combination of integer-order Renyi entropies and give an estimate for the quality of such an approximation.

In this paper, we derive a general formula of the tangle for pure states of three qubits, and present three explicit local unitary (LU) polynomial invariants. Our result goes beyond the classical work of tangle, 3-tangle and von Neumann entropy of entanglement for Ac\'ın et al.' Schmidt decomposition (ASD) of three qubits by connecting the tangle, 3-tangle, and von Neumann entropy for ASD with Ac\'ın et al.'s LU invariants. We present an optical scheme that realizes the standard von Neumann measurement model, providing an indirect measurement of a quadrature of the field with controllable Gaussian state-reduction. The scheme is made of simple optical elements, as laser sources, beam splitters, and phase sensitive amplifiers, along with a feedback mechanism that uses a Pockels cell. We show that the von Neumann measurement is achieved without the need of working in a ultra-short pulsed regime.

We review the famous no-hidden-variables theorem in John von Neumann's 1932 book on the mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics. We describe the notorious gap in von Neumann's argument, pointed out by Grete Hermann in 1935 and, more famously, by John Bell in 1966. We used the von Neumann entropy to study the single and many-particle on-site localizations of stationary states for an anisotropic Heisenberg spin-1/2 chain. With a constructed bounded sequence of on-site energies for single and many-particle systems we demonstrate that the von Neumann entropy approaches zero indicating strong on-site localizations for all states. On the contrary, random on-site energy sequence does not lead to strong on-site confinement of all states. In this paper we describe the structure of all sequential isomorphisms between the sets of von Neumann algebra effects. It turns out that if the underlying algebras have no commutative direct summands, then every sequential isomorphism between the sets of their effects extends to the direct sum of a *-isomorphism and a *-antiisomorphism between the underlying von Neumann algebras.
For von Neumann algebras M, N not isomorphic to C^2 and without type I_2 summands, we show that for an order-isomorphism f:AbSub(M)->AbSub(N) between the posets of abelian von Neumann subalgebras of M and N, there is a unique Jordan *-isomorphism g:M->N with the image g[S] equal to f(S) for each abelian von Neumann subalgebra S of M. The converse also holds. A new form of a binary Darboux transformation is used to generate analytical solutions of a nonlinear Liouville-von Neumann equation. General theory is illustrated by explicit examples.
Quantum bialgebras derivable from Uq(sl2) which contain idempotents and von Neumann regular Cartan-like generators are introduced and investigated.
