We consider an optical quantum dot where an electron level and a hole level are coupled to respective superconducting leads. We find that electrons and holes recombine producing photons at discrete energies as well as a continuous tail. Further, the spectral lines directly probe the induced superconducting correlations on the dot. At energies close to the applied bias voltage eV, a parameter range exists, where radiation proceeds in pairwise emission of polarization correlated photons. At energies close to 2eV, emitted photons are associated with Cooper pair transfer and are reminiscent of Josephson radiation. We discuss how to probe the coherence of these photons in a SQUID geometry via single photon interference.
A Josephson diode is a non-reciprocal circuit element that supports a larger dissipationless supercurrent in one direction than in the other. In this work, we propose and theoretically study a class of Josephson diodes based on supercurrent interferometers containing mesoscopic Josephson junctions, such as point contacts or quantum dots, which are not diodes themselves but possess non-sinusoidal current-phase relations. We show that such Josephson diodes have several important advantages, like being electrically tunable and requiring neither Zeeman splitting nor spin-orbit coupling, only time-…
We report evidence of non-reciprocal dissipation-less transport in single ballistic InSb nanoflag Josephson junctions, owing to a strong spin-orbit coupling. Applying an in-plane magnetic field, we observe an inequality in supercurrent for the two opposite current propagation directions. This demonstrates that these devices can work as Josephson diodes, with dissipation-less current flowing in only one direction. For small fields, the supercurrent asymmetry increases linearly with the external field, then it saturates as the Zeeman energy becomes relevant, before it finally decreases to zero a…
We propose a realization of the superconducting diode effect in flux biased superconducting circuits of Josephson junctions. So far the observation of the superconducting diode effect has been limited to rather exotic material platforms. In theoretical proposals, it relied on a non-sinusoidal form of the current phase relation of Josephson junctions. Here, we show how the diode effect can be engineered in superconducting circuits without any such requirements. The only necessary ingredients are standard sinusoidal Josephson junctions and flux bias lines that are readily available in scalable i…
It is necessary to break both time-reversal and parity symmetries to realize a Josephson, or superconducting, diode exhibiting nonreciprocal critical direct-currents (DC). In fact, these conditions are still insufficient. The dependencies of the free energy on the phase difference across the junction and the magnetic field are classified, exhibiting the current-reversion (JR), field-reversion, and field-current reversion conditions, respectively. To exhibit the DC Josephson diode effect, all symmetries satisfying the JR condition need to be broken. The relations of critical currents with respe…

Superconducting diodes are a recently-discovered quantum analogueue of classical diodes. The superconducting diode effect relies on the breaking of both time-reversal and inversion symmetry. As a result, the critical current of a superconductor can become dependent on the direction of the applied current. The combination of these ingredients naturally occurs in proximitized semiconductors under a magnetic field, which is also predicted to give rise to exotic physics such as topological superconductivity. In this work, we use InSb nanowires proximitized by Al to investigate the superconducting …

We report single-photon emission from electrically driven site-controlled InGaN/GaN quantum dots, fabricated from a planar light-emitting diode structure containing a single InGaN quantum well using a top-down approach. The location, dimension, and height of each single-photon-emitting diode are controlled lithographically, providing great flexibility for chip-scale integration.
Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are optically active layered materials providing potential for fast optoelectronics and on-chip photonics. We demonstrate electrically driven single-photon emission from localised sites in tungsten diselenide (WSe2) and tungsten disulphide (WS2). To achieve this, we fabricate a light emitting diode structure comprising single layer graphene, thin hexagonal boron nitride and TMD mono- and bi-layers. Photon correlation measurements are used to confirm the single-photon nature of the spectrally sharp emission. These results present the TMD family as a platf…

We study the key features of the Josephson transport through a curved semiconducting nanowire. Based on numerical simulations and analytical estimates within the framework of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations we find the ground-state phase difference $φ_0$ between the superconducting leads tuned by the spin splitting field $h$ driving the system from the topologically trivial to the nontrivial superconducting state. The phase $φ_0$ vanishes for rather small $h$, grows in a certain field range around the topological transition, and then saturates at large $h$ in the Kitaev regime. Both the sub…
