The spin-stiffness ρ_s of a 2D Heisenberg antiferromagnet depends non-analytically on external magnetic field. We demonstrate that the hydrodynamic relation between ρ_s, the uniform susceptibility χ, and the spin-wave velocity $c$ is not violated by such a behavior because similar non-analytic terms from all three quantities mutually cancel out. In this work, explicit expressions for the field-dependent spin stiffness and for the magnon velocity of the 2D square lattice antiferromagnet are obtained by direct calculation to order 1/S and in the whole range of magnetic fields.
We study the O(N) quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet using a parametrisation in terms of real fermions. The N->infinity limit of the model is controlled by a saddle point that is infinitely degenerate in many cases and which represents singlet states on dimers that cover the lattice. Our results are similar to results reported previously on an SU(N) generalisation of the quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet for N->infinity.
Using an exact diagonalization treatment of Ising and Heisenberg model Hamiltonians, we study field-induced phase transition for two-dimensional antiferromagnets. For the system of Ising antiferromagnet the predicted field-induced phase transition is of first order, while for the system of Heisenberg antiferromagnet it is the second-order transition. We find from the exact diagonalization calculations that the second-order phase transition (metamagnetism) occurs through a spin-flop process as an intermediate step.
We use linked cluster series expansion methods to estimate the values of various short distance correlation functions in $S=1/2$ Heisenberg antiferromagnets at T=0, for dimension $d=1,2,3$. The method incorporates the possibility of spontaneous symmetry breaking, which is manifest in $d=2,3$. The results are important in providing a test for approximate theories of the antiferromagnetic ground state.
In this paper we discuss the construction and the dynamics of vortex-like topological spin excitations in the Schwinger-boson description of Heisenberg antiferromagnets in two dimensions. The topological spin excitations are Dirac fermions (with gap) when spin value $S$ is a half-integer. Experimental and theoretical implications of these excitations are being investigated.
We apply the coupled cluster method and exact diagonalzation to study the uniform susceptibility and the ground-state magnetization curve of the triangular-lattice spin-1 Heisenberg antiferromagnet. Comparing our theoretical data for the magnetization curve with recent measurements on the s=1 triangular lattice antiferromagnet Ba3NiSb2O9 we find a very good agreement.
muSR and 7Li NMR relaxation measurements in frustrated two-dimensional S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets on a square lattice are presented. It is found that both in Li2VOSiO4 and Li2VOGeO4, spin dynamics at frequencies well below the Heisenberg exchange frequency are present. These dynamics are associated with the motions of walls separating coexisting collinear domains with a magnetic wave vector rotated by 90 degrees.
We report magnetization, specific heat, muon spin rotation and Na NMR measurements on the S=3/2 rhombohedrally stacked Heisenberg antiferromagnet NaCrO2. This compound appears to be an ideal candidate for the study of triangular Heisenberg antiferromagnets with very weak interlayer coupling. While specific heat and magnetization measurements indicate the occurrence of a transition in the range 40-46 K, both muon spin rotation and NMR reveal a fluctuating regime extending well below T_c, with a peak of relaxation rate 1/T1 around 30 K. This novel finding is discussed within the context of excit…
We find evidence for decaying magnons at strong magnetic field in the square lattice spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet. The results are obtained using Quantum Monte Carlo simulations combined with a Bayesian inference technique to obtain dynamics and are consistent with predictions from spin wave theory.
We present an analytical result for the ratio of the physical correlation length in a 2D Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a square lattice, and the one which is actually computed in numerical simulations. This last correlation length is deduced from the second moment of the structure factor at the antiferromagnetic momentum Q. We show that the ratio is very close to one in agreement with previously obtained numerical result of the 1/N expansion.
We investigate quantum phase transitions for the $s=1/2$ antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a pyrochlore lattice. By means of a series expansion starting from isolated tetrahedra, the ground-state phase diagram is determined. When the ratio of the two competing exchange couplings is varied, the first-order (second-order) quantum phase transition occurs between the two spin gap phases (the spin-gap and the antiferromagnetic phases). We also discuss some properties expected for the s=1 pyrochlore spin system.
We consider the magnetic-field dependent spatial magnetization pattern around a general impurity embedded in a Heisenberg antiferromagnet using both an analytical and a numerical spin wave approach. The results are compared to quantum Monte Carlo simulations. The decay of the magnetization pattern away from the impurity follows a universal form which reflects the properties of the pure antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model. Only the overall magnitude of the induced magnetization depends also on the size of the impurity spin and the impurity coupling.
Magnetic excitations and spin correlations near the interface of two spin-$\frac12$ Heisenberg antiferromagnets are considered using the spin-wave approximation. When the interaction between boundary spins differs essentially from exchange constants inside the antiferromagnets, quasi-two-dimensional spin waves appear in the near-boundary region. They eject bulk magnons from this region, thereby dividing the antiferromagnets into areas with different magnetic excitations. The decreased dimensionality of the near-boundary modes leads to amplified nearest-neighbor spin correlations in the interfa…
We investigate the zero- and finite-temperature properties of the bond-random $s=1/2$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the pyrochlore lattice by the exact diagonalization and the Hams--de Raedt methods. We find that the randomness induces the gapless quantum spin liquid (QSL) state, the random-singlet state. Implications to recent experiments on the mixed-anion pyrochlore-lattice antiferromagnet Lu$_2$Mo$_2$O$_5$N$_2$ exhibiting gapless QSL behaviors are discussed.
We investigate the zero-temperature phase diagram of the one-dimensional S=1 Heisenberg antiferromagnet with single-ion anisotropy. By employing high-order series expansions and quantum Monte Carlo simulations we obtain accurate estimates for the critical points separating different phases in the quantum phase diagram. Additionally, excitation spectra and gaps are obtained.
Using the spin-wave approximation elementary excitations of a semi-infinite two-dimensional $S=\frac12$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet are considered. The spectrum consists of bulk modes -- standing spin waves and a quasi-one-dimensional mode of boundary spin waves. These latter excitations eject bulk modes from two boundary rows of sites, thereby dividing the antiferromagnet into two regions with different dominant excitations. As a result absolute values of nearest-neighbor spin correlations on the edge exceed the bulk value.
We find using Monte Carlo simulations of the spin-1/2 2D square lattice nearest neighbour quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet that the high energy peak locations at (pi,0) and (pi/2,pi/2) differ by about 6%, (pi/2,pi/2) being the highest. This is a deviation from linear spin wave theory which predicts equal magnon energies at these points.
We propose a general non-perturbative scheme that quantitatively maps the low-energy sector of spin-1/2 frustrated Heisenberg antiferromagnets to effective Generalized Quantum Dimer Models. We develop the formal lattice independent frame and establish some important results on (i) the locality of the generated Hamiltonians (ii) how full resummations can be performed in this renormalization scheme. The method is then applied to the much debated kagome antiferromagnet for which a fully resummed effective Hamiltonian - shown to capture the essential properties and provide deep insights on the mic…
A simple derivation of an explicitly rotational invariant Lagrangian describing the dynamics of an antiferromagnetic spin system is presented. The scope of the derived Lagrangian is analysed in the context of schematic models. It is shown that the Lagrangian describes the behaviour of spin systems from the anti-ferromagnetic to the ferromagnetic regimes.
We study the quenching of the Haldane gap in quasi-one-dimensional systems of weakly coupled spin-1 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chains. The critical interchain coupling Jc required to stabilize long range magnetic order can be accurately determined from large scale quantum Monte Carlo calculations. Several different geometries of coupled chains are studied, illustrating the dependence of Jc on the coordination of chains. For bipartite geometries, ferromagnetically coupled chains yield similar magnitudes for Jc.
The magnetization process of the isotropic Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the kagome lattice is studied. Data obtained from the numerical-diagonalization method are reexamined from the viewpoint of the derivative of the magnetization with respect to the magnetic field. We find that the behavior of the derivative at approximately one-third of the height of the magnetization saturation is markedly different from that for the cases of typical magnetization plateaux. The magnetization process of the kagome-lattice antiferromagnet reveals a new phenomenon, which we call the "magnetization ramp".
We study the phase diagram of the spin-1 quantum bilinear-biquadratic antiferromagnet on the kagome lattice using exact diagonalization and the density matrix renormalization group algorithm. The SU(3)-symmetric point of this model Hamiltonian is a spontaneously trimerized state whose qualitative nature persists even at the Heisenberg point, a finding that contrasts previous proposals. We report the ground state energy per site of the Heisenberg model to be -1.410(2) and establish the presence of a spin gap.
We investigate the magnetic reorientation in a two-dimensional anisotropic antiferromagnet due to a transverse magnetic field. Using a many-body Green's function approach, we show that the magnetization component perpendicular to the applied field (and along the easy-axis of the antiferromagnet) initially increases with increasing field strength. We show that this unexpected result arises from the suppression of quantum and thermal fluctuations in the antiferromagnet. Above the Néel temperature, this effect leads to a reappearance of a magnetic moment along the easy-axis.
We report the results of magnetization and specific heat measurements on Ba$_3$CoSb$_2$O$_9$, in which the magnetic Co$^{2+}$ ion has a fictitious spin-1/2, and show evidence that a spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a regular triangular lattice is actually realized in Ba$_3$CoSb$_2$O$_9$. We found that the entire magnetization curve including the one-third quantum magnetization plateau is in excellent agreement with theoretical calculations at a quantitative level.
This short note documents some of the pyrochlore magnetization plateaus resulting from the arguments of Pal & Lal that were not mentioned in arxiv:1902.06475v1. These are (layered) "Kagome"-like plateaus that are commensurate with the pyrochlore lattice, including an exact wavefunction for the $\frac{m}{m_s} = \frac{5}{6}$ plateau state.
We investigate the two-magnon Raman scattering from an anisotropic S=1/2 triangular Heisenberg antiferromagnet Cs2CuCl4. We find that the Raman response is very sensitive to magnon-magnon interactions and to scattering geometries, a feature that is in remarkable contrast with the polarization-independent Raman signal from the isotropic triangular Heisenberg antiferromagnet. Since a spin-liquid ground state gives rise to a similar rotationally invariant Raman response, our results on the polarization dependence of the scattering spectrum suggest that Raman spectroscopy provides a useful probe, …
Using the density-matrix renormalization group, we determine the phase diagram of the spin 1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a honeycomb lattice with a nearest neighbor interaction J1 and a frustrating, next-neighbor exchange J2. As frustration increases, the ground state exhibits Neel, plaquette and dimer orders, with critical points at J2/J1 = 0.22 and 0.35. We observe that both the spin gap and the corresponding order parameters vanish continuously at both the critical points, indicating the presence of deconfined quantum criticality.
We study the quasi-one-dimensional limit of the spin-1/2 quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the kagome lattice. The lattice is divided into antiferromagnetic spin-chains (exchange J) that are weakly coupled via intermediate "dangling" spins (exchange J'). Using one-dimensional bosonization, renormalization group methods, and current algebra techniques the ground state is determined in the limit J'<<J. We find that the dangling spins and chain spins form a spiral with O(1) and O(J'/J) static moments, respectively, atop of which the chain spins exhibit a smaller O[(J'/J)^2] antiferromagnetica…
Magnetic excitations in the triangular-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet (TLHA) CuCrO2 were studied using single-crystal inelastic neutron scattering. A diffusive quasielastic component that persisted without developing a correlation length over a wide temperature range both below and above the ordering temperature was observed. Furthermore, characteristic momentum dependence was observed that was reproduced using minimum spin clusters. The robust spin clusters contrast with conventional magnetic ordering and may be universal in TLHAs.
We clarify the existence of several magnetization plateaux for the kagome $S=1/2$ antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model in a magnetic field. Using approximate or exact localized magnon eigenstates, we are able to describe in a similar manner the plateau states that occur for magnetization per site $m=1/3$, $5/9$, and $7/9$ of the saturation value. These results are confirmed using large-scale Exact Diagonalization on lattices up to 63 sites.
We work out the magnetization and susceptibility of Heisenberg- and XXZ-model antiferromagnet spin-1/2 systems in $D$ dimensions under a rigorous constraint of single particle site occupancy. Quantum fluctuations are taken into account up to the first order in a loop expansion beyond the Néel state mean field solution. We discuss the results, their validity in the vicinity of the critical point and compare them with the results obtained by means of a spin wave approach.
We use a quantum Monte Carlo method (stochastic series expansion) to study the effects of a magnetic or nonmagnetic impurity on the magnetic susceptibility of the two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet. At low temperatures, we find a log-divergent contribution to the transverse susceptibility. We also introduce an effective few-spin model that can quantitatively capture the differences between magnetic and nonmagnetic impurities at high and intermediate temperatures.
The spin liquid state of the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a triangular lattice is studied within the self-consistent Green's function method. It is shown that the spin excitation spectra is gapless, and ground-state energy per site is $E_{g}/NJ=-0.966$, which is in very good agreement with the results obtained within the variational Monte Carlo method based on the resonating-valence-bond state. Some thermodynamic properties are also discussed.
We construct a phenomenological Z_2 lattice gauge theory to describe the spin-liquid state of the S=1/2 kagome Heisenberg antiferromagnet in the sector with zero total spin. The model is a natural generalization of the Misguich-Serban-Pasquier Hamiltonian with added interactions that are strongly constrained by lattice symmetries. We are able to reproduce qualitatively many of the characteristic features observed in recent numerical studies. We also make connections to the previous works along similar lines.
The spin-wave excitation spectrum, the magnetization, and the Néel temperature for the quasi-two-dimensional spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model with compass-model interaction in the plane proposed for iridates are calculated in the random phase approximation. The spin-wave spectrum agrees well with data of Lanczos diagonalization. We find that the Neel temperature is enhanced by the compass-model interaction and is close to the experimental value for Ba2IrO4.
Using a lattice-gas description of the low-energy degrees of freedom of the quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the frustrated two-leg ladder and bilayer lattices we examine the magnetization process at low temperatures for these spin models. In both cases the emergent discrete degrees of freedom implicate a close relation of the frustrated quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet to the classical lattice gas with finite nearest-neighbor repulsion or, equivalently, to the Ising antiferromagnet in a uniform magnetic field. Using this relation we obtain analytical results for thermodynamically large…
The antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain is expected to have an extended symmetry, [SU(2)xSU(2)]/Z 2 , in the infrared limit, whose physical interpretation is that the spin and dimer order parameters form the components of a common 4-dimensional vector. Here we numerically in- vestigate this emergent symmetry using quantum Monte Carlo simulations of a modified Heisenberg chain (the J-Q model) in which the logarithmic scaling corrections of the conventional Heisenberg chain can be avoided. We show how the two- and three-point spin and dimer correlation func- tions approach their forms constrained…
We consider a quasi-one-dimensional system of spin-1 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chains in 2D and 3D hypercubic lattices with interchain coupling $J$ and uniaxial single-ion anisotropy $D$. Using large scale numerical simulations, we map out the $J-D$ phase diagram and investigate the low lying excitations of the Haldane phase in the $J\ll1$ limit. We also provide direct evidence that the Haldane phase remains a non-trivial symmetry protected topological state for small but finite $J$.
We study the quantum phase transition of an $S=1/2$ anisotropic $α$ $(\equiv J_z/J_{xy})$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a triangular lattice. We calculate the sublattice magnetization and the long-range helical order-parameter and their Binder ratios on finite systems with $N \leq 36$ sites. The $N$ dependence of the Binder ratios reveals that the classical 120$^{\circ}$ Néel state occurs for $α\lesssim 0.55$, whereas a critical collinear state occurs for $1/α\lesssim 0.6$. This result is at odds with a widely-held belief that the ground state of a Heisenberg antiferromagnet is the 120$^{\circ…
We have extended our previous series studies of quantum antiferromagnets at zero temperature by computing the one-magnon dispersion curves and various structure factors for the linear chain, square and simple cubic lattices. Many of these results are new; others are a substantial extension of previous work. These results are directly comparable with neutron scattering experiments and we make such comparisons where possible.
We report zero and longitudinal magnetic field muon spin relaxation measurements of the spin S=1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain material SrCuO2. We find that in a weak applied magnetic field B the spin-lattice relaxation rate follows a power law B^n with n=-0.9(3). This result is temperature independent for 5K < T < 300 K. Within conformal field theory and using the Müller ansatz we conclude ballistic spin transport in SrCuO2.
Within Dyson-Maleev (DM) transformation and self-consistent mean-field treatment, the Néel order/disorder transition is studied for an antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model which is defined on a square lattice with a nearest neighbour exchange $J_1$ and a next-nearest neighbour exchange $J_2$ along only one of the diagonals. It is found that the Néel order may exist up to $J_2/J_1=0.572$, beyond its classically stable regime. This result qualitatively improves that from linear spin-wave theory based on Holstein-Primakoff transformation.
Nearest-neighbor spin correlations are considered near the surface of a semi-infinite spin-$\frac12$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a simple cubic lattice. In the spin-wave approximation, the excitation spectrum of this model involves bulk modes -- standing spin waves and a quasi-two-dimensional mode of surface spin waves. These latter excitations eject the bulk excitations from the surface region thus dividing the antiferromagnet into two parts with different excitations. As a result absolute values of the spin correlations near the surface exceed the bulk value. In the surface region, the pat…
We use quantum Monte Carlo simulations to study effects of free edges in the two-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet. We find that the magnetic response of an edge is smaller than the bulk susceptibility. This counter-intuitive quantum effect can be traced to enhanced antiferromagnetic nearest-neighbor spin correlations, i.e., tendency to local singlet formation, at and close to the edge. These correlations form a comb-like pattern, which can be reproduced with a simple variational valence-bond state. We also study rough edges, and find that these instead significantly enhance the …
Magnetic properties of spin $\frac 12$ $J_1-J_2$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet on body centered cubic lattice are investigated. By using two-time temperature Green's functions, sublattice magnetization and critical temperature depending on the frustration ratio $p=J_2/J_1$ are obtained in both stripe and Néel phase. The analysis of ground state sublattice magnetization and phase diagram indicates the critical end point at $J_2/J_1 =0.714$, in agreement with previous studies.
The low-temperature magnetic excitations of the two-dimensional spin-5/2 square-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet Rb2MnF4 have been probed using pulsed inelastic neutron scattering. In addition to dominant sharp peaks identified with one-magnon excitations, a relatively weak continuum scattering is also observed at higher energies. This is attributed to neutron scattering by pairs of magnons and the observed intensities are consistent with predictions of spin wave theory.
We consider the two-dimensional (2D) quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet at zero temperature with two types of locally frustrating perturbations - an isolated ferromagnetic bond (FMB) and a quantum impurity spin, coupled symmetrically to the two sublattices. An analytic technique is developed to study strong defect-environment interaction. In the case of a FMB we find that, contrary to the previous linear spin-wave result, the local magnetization stays finite even for strong frustration. For an antiferromagnetic coupling of a quantum impurity spin with its environment, we find a local ground st…
We have performed electron spin resonance measurements over a wide frequency and magnetic field range on a single crystal of the S=1 quasi-one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet $\rm Ni(C_5H_{14}N_2)_2N_3(PF_6)$. We observed gapped excitation branches above the critical field ($H_{\rm c}$) where the Haldane gap closes. These branches are analyzed by a phenomenological field-theory using complex-field $ϕ^{4}$ model. A satisfactory agreement between experiment and theory is obtained.
We review the basic properties of the Haldane phase in spin-1 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chains, including its persistence in quasi-one-dimensional geometries. Using large-scale numerical simulations, we map out the phase diagram for a realistic model applicable to experimental Haldane compounds. We also investigate the effect of different chain coupling geometries and confirm a general mean field universality of the critical coupling times the coordination number of the lattice. Inspired by the recent development of characterization of symmetry protected topological states, of which the Hal…
We present numerical evidence for the emergence of an extended valence bond solid (VBS) phase at $T=0$ in the kagome $S=1/2$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet with ferromagnetic further-neighbor interactions. The VBS is located at the boundary between two magnetically ordered regions and extends close to the nearest-neighbor Heisenberg point. It exhibits a diamond-like singlet covering pattern with a $12$-site unit-cell. Our results suggest the possibility of a direct, possibly continuous, quantum phase transition from the neighboring $\mathbf{q}=0$ coplanar magnetically ordered phase into the VBS ph…
To check the reliability of the Majorana representation of quantum spin systems, we use it to compute the ground state energy of an antiferromagnetic spin 1/2 chain to one loop order. We find a very small one loop correction of the mean field energy and a discrepancy of >100% compared to the Bethe Ansatz result. We conclude that a careful handling of the gauge degrees of freedom of this representation is crucial to get correct results.
We present functional Schrödinger representations of Holstein-Primakoff boson and slave-boson theories for the Heisenberg Hamiltonian and the $t-J$ Hamiltonian respectively. Based on these representations we obtain the dispersion relations of magnons for two dimensional antiferromagnets. By applying the functional Schrödinger representation of the Holstein-Primakoff boson theory to the Heisenberg Hamiltonian, the exchange energy is correctly predicted and the self-energy of quasi-hole is obtained. From the use of the functional Schrödinger representation of the $t-J$ Hamiltonian it is shown th…
We study the ground state of a spin-half Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the stacked kagome lattice by using a spin-rotation-invariant Green's-function method. Since the pure two-dimensional kagome antiferromagnet is most likely a magnetically disordered quantum spin liquid, we investigate the question whether the coupling of kagome layers in a stacked three-dimensional system may lead to a magnetically ordered ground state. We present spin-spin correlation functions and correlation lengths. For comparison we apply also linear spin wave theory. Our results provide strong evidence that the system…
We analyze the ground state properties of the two-dimensional quantum antiferromagnet with a S=1/2 Kondo impurity. Perturbation theory around the strong Kondo coupling limit is developed and the results compared with studies, based on exact diagonalization of small clusters. We find that at intermediate coupling the impurity is partially screened and the magnetization locally suppressed. A local singlet between the impurity and the host spin is formed asymptotically.
Inelastic neutron scattering is used to investigate magnetic excitations in the quasi-one-dimensional quantum spin-liquid system Cu2Cl4 D8C4SO2. Contrary to previously conjectured models that relied on bond-alternating nearest neighbor interactions in the spin chains, the dominant interactions are actually next-nearest-neighbor in-chain antiferromagnetic couplings. The appropriate Heisenberg Hamiltonian is equivalent to that of a S = 1/2 4-leg spin-tube with almost perfect one dimensionality and no bond alternation. A partial geometric frustration of rung interactions induces a small incommens…
The antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on icosahedral symmetry $I_{h}$ fullerene clusters exhibits unconventional magnetic properties, despite the lack of anisotropic interactions. At the classical level, and for number of sites $n \leq 720$, the magnetization has two discontinuities in an external magnetic field, except from the dodecahedron where it has three, emphasizing the role of frustration introduced by the pentagons in the unusual magnetic properties. For spin magnitudes $s_{i}={1/2}$ there is a discontinuity of quantum character close to saturation for $n \leq 80$. This common magnet…
We have studied the effect of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction on kagome Heisenberg anti-ferromagnet using Schwinger boson mean field theory (SBMFT). Within SBMFT framework, Messio et al had argued that the ground state of kagome antiferromagnet is possibly a chiral topological spin liquid (Phys. Rev. Lett. 108, 207204 (2012)). Thus, we have computed zero-temperature ground state phase diagram considering the time-reversal breaking states as well as fully symmetric Ansätze. We discuss the relevance of these results in experiments and other studies. Finally, we have computed the static and…
The antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a pyrochlore lattice under external magnetic field is studied by classical Monte Carlo simulation. The model includes bilinear and biquadratic interactions; the latter effectively describes the coupling to lattice distortions. The magnetization process shows a half-magnetization plateau at low temperatures, accompanied with strong suppression of the magnetic susceptibility. Temperature dependence of the plateau behavior is clarified. Finite-temperature phase diagram under the magnetic field is determined. The results are compared with recent experiment…
We consider the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the two-dimensional square-kagome lattice with almost dispersionless lowest magnon band. For a general exchange coupling geometry we elaborate low-energy effective Hamiltonians which emerge at high magnetic fields. The effective model to describe the low-energy degrees of freedom of the initial frustrated quantum spin model is the (unfrustrated) square-lattice spin-1/2 $XXZ$ model in a $z$-aligned magnetic field. For the effective model we perform quantum Monte Carlo simulations to discuss the low-temperature properties of the squa…
The energy spectrum of the two-magnon bound states in the Heisenberg-Ising antiferromagnet on the square lattice are calculated using series expansion methods. The results confirm an earlier spin-wave prediction of Oguchi and Ishikawa, that the bound states vanish into the continuum before the isotropic Heisenberg limit is reached.
Effects of the site dilution on spin-gapped Heisenberg antiferromagnets with $S=1/2$ and S=1 on a square lattice are investigated by means of the quantum Monte Carlo method. It is found that effective magnetic moments induced around the diluted sites exhibit the antiferromagnetic long-range order in the medium of spin-singlet pairs. Their microscopic structure is examined in detail and important roles of the higher dimensionality than one on the phenomenon are discussed.
