We prove the Bisognano-Wichmann and CPT theorems for massive particles obeying braid group statistics in three-dimensional Minkowski space. We start from first principles of local relativistic quantum theory, assuming Poincare covariance and asymptotic completeness. The particle masses must be isolated points in the mass spectra of the corresponding charged sectors, and may only be finitely degenerate.

The Bisognano-Wichmann Theorem for Massive Theories

The geometric action of modular groups for wedge regions (Bisognano-Wichmann property) is derived from the principles of local quantum physics for a large class of Poincare covariant models in d=4. As a consequence, the CPT theorem holds for this class. The models must have a complete interpretation in terms of massive particles. The corresponding charges need not be localizable in compact regions: The most general case is admitted, namely localization in spacelike cones.

An algebraic condition for the Bisognano-Wichmann Property

The Bisognano-Wichmann property for local, Poincaré covariant nets of standard subspaces is discussed. We present a sufficient algebraic condition on the covariant representation ensuring Bisognano-Wichmann and Duality properties without further assumptions on the net. Our modularity condition holds for direct integrals of scalar massive and massless representations. We conclude that in these cases the Bisognano-Wichmann property is much weaker than the Split property. Furthermore, we present a class of massive modular covariant nets not satisfying the Bisognano-Wichmann property.

The Bisognano-Wichmann property for asymptotically complete massless QFT

We prove the Bisognano-Wichmann property for asymptotically complete Haag-Kastler theories of massless particles. These particles should either be scalar or appear as a direct sum of two opposite integer helicities, thus, e.g., photons are covered. The argument relies on a modularity condition formulated recently by one of us (VM) and on the Buchholz' scattering theory of massless particles.

Complex velocity transformations and the Bisognano--Wichmann theorem for quantum fields acting on Krein spaces

It is proven that in indefinite metric quantum field theory there exists a dense set of analytic vectors for the generator of the one parameter group of x^0-x^1 velocity transformations. This makes it possible to define complex velocity transformations also for the indefinite metric case. In combination with the results of Bros -- Epstein -- Moschella, proving Bisognano--Wichmann (BW) analyticity within the linear program, one then obtains a suitable generalization of the BW theorem for local, relativistic quantum fields acting on Krein spaces ("quantum fields with indefinite metric").

The Bisognano-Wichmann Theorem for Charged States and the Conformal Boundary of a Black Hole

Recent applications of Operator Algebras to Quantum Field Theory on a Curved Spacetime show that the incremental entropy associated with a quantum black hole, due the addition of a short range charge, is quantized proportionally to the logarithm of an integer. This talk first reviews the case of a Rindler black hole and then sketches the case of a spacetime with bifurcate Killing horizon and charges localizable on the horizon. An important tool is the construction of the conformal symmetries on the horizon.

Bisognano-Wichmann property for rigid categorical extensions and non-local extensions of conformal nets

Given an (irreducible) Mobius covariant net $\mathcal A$, we prove a Bisognano-Wichmann theorem for its categorical extension $\mathscr E^{\textrm{d}}$ associated to the braided $C^*$-tensor category $\textrm{Rep}^{\textrm{d}}(\mathcal A)$ of dualizable (more precisely "dualized") Mobius covariant $\mathcal A$-modules. Modular Theory and Eyvind Wichmann's Contributions to modern Particle Physics Theory

Some of the consequences of Eyvind Wichmann's contributions to modular theory and the QFT phase-space structure are presented. In order to show the power of those ideas in contemporary problems, I selected the issue of algebraic holography as well as a new nonperturbative constructive approach (based on the modular structur of wedge-localized algebras and modular inclusions) and show that these ideas are recent consequences of the pathbreaking work which Wichmann together with his collaborator Bisognano initiated in the mid 70$^{ies}.
