Simulating SiD Calorimetry: Software Calibration Procedures and Jet Energy Resolution

Simulated calorimeter performance in the SiD detector is examined. The software calibration procedures are described, as well as the perfect pattern recognition PFA reconstruction. Performance of the SiD calorimeters is summarized with jet energy resolutions from calorimetry only, perfect pattern recognition and the SiD PFA algorithm. Presented at LCWS08[1].

SiD Letter of Intent

Letter of intent describing SiD (Silicon Detector) for consideration by the International Linear Collider IDAG panel. This detector concept is founded on the use of silicon detectors for vertexing, tracking, and electromagnetic calorimetry. The detector has been cost-optimized as a general-purpose detector for a 500 GeV electron-positron linear collider.

Beam studies of novel THGEM-based potential sampling elements for Digital Hadron Calorimetry

Beam studies of thin single- and double-stage THGEM-based detectors are presented. Several 10 x 10 cm^2 configurations with a total thickness of 5-6 mm (excluding readout electronics), with 1 x 1 cm^2 pads inductively coupled through a resistive layer to APV-SRS readout electronics, were investigated with muons and pions. Detection efficiencies in the 98% range were recorded with an average pad-multiplicity of ~1.1. Iowa Particle Flow Algorithm

The particle detectors at the future linear colliders, like ILD and SiD, use Particle Flow Algorithms (PFA)s to reach higher jet energy resolutions than the classical pure calorimetry. During the past few years, the University of Iowa group developed the Iowa PFA. This algorithm has been used to benchmark the performance of the SiD detector for the Letter Of Intent of 2009. Recently, new strategies and techniques are included in the different parts of this algorithm in order to increase its performance. The latest improvements and results of the Iowa PFA will be discussed.

Detector Systems at CLIC

The Compact Linear Collider CLIC is designed to deliver e+e- collisions at a center of mass energy of up to 3 TeV. The detector systems at this collider have to provide highly efficient tracking and excellent jet energy resolution and hermeticity for multi-TeV final states with multiple jets and leptons. Simulating a dual-recycled gravitational wave interferometer with realistically imperfect optics

We simulate the performance of a gravitational wave interferometer in the Dual Recycling (DR) configuration, as will be used for systems like Advanced-LIGO. Our grid-based simulation program models complex interferometric detectors with realistic optical deformations (e.g., fine-scale mirror surface roughness). Simulating NEMA characteristics of the modular total-body J-PET scanner -- an economic total-body PET from plastic scintillators

The purpose of the presented research is estimation of the performance characteristics of the economic Total-Body Jagiellonian-PET system (TB-J-PET) constructed from plastic scintillators.
