Plateau border bulimia transition: discontinuities expected in three simple experiments on 2D liquid foams

We describe the geometry of foams squeezed between two solid plates (2D GG foams) in two main asymptotic regimes: fully dry floor tiles and dry pancakes. We predict an abrupt transition between both regimes, with a substantial change in the Plateau border radius. This should be observable in different types of experiments on such 2D GG foams: when foam is being progressively dried or wetted, when it is being squeezed further or stretched, when it coarsens through film breakage or Oswald ripening.

Capillary Flow of Oil in a Single Foam Microchannel

When using appropriate surfactants, oil and aqueous foam can be intimately mixed without the foam being destroyed. In this Letter, we show that a foam, initially free of oil, can draw an oil drop under the action of capillary forces and stretch it through the aqueous network. We focus on the suction of oil by a single horizontal foam channel, known as a Plateau border. Note and calculations concerning elastic dilatancy in 2D glass-glass liquid foams

When deformed, liquid foams tend to raise their liquid contents like immersed granular materials, a phenomenon called dilatancy. We have aready described a geometrical interpretation of elastic dilatancy in 3D foams and in very dry foams squeezed between two solid plates (2D GG foams). Here, we complement this work in the regime of less dry 2D GG foams. In particular, we highlight the relatively strong dilatancy effects expected in the regime where we have predicted rapid Plateau border variations.

Switching Reversibly between Ultrastable and Unstable Foams

Ultrastable foams with an optimal foamability have been obtained using hydroxyl fatty acids tubes. The stabilization results from the adsorption of monomers at the air-water interface preventing coalescence and coarsening and from the presence of tubes in the Plateau borders limiting the drainage. Upon heating, tubes transit to micelles, which induces foam destabilization. Such foams are thus the first to have a temperature tunable stability.

We study the topology and geometry of two dimensional coarsening foams with arbitrary liquid fraction. We describe the extension of a "viscous froth" model to the dynamics of a wet foam in a Hele-Shaw cell. Structure and coarsening at the surface of a dry three-dimensional aqueous foam

We utilize total-internal reflection to isolate the two-dimensional `surface foam' formed at the planar boundary of a three-dimensional sample. The resulting images of surface Plateau borders are consistent with Plateau's laws for a truly two-dimensional foam. Roughness-induced friction in liquid foams

Complex liquids flow is known to be drastically affected by the roughness condition at the interfaces. We combined stresses measurements and observations of the flow during the motion of different rough surfaces in dry liquid foams.
