A model of generalised hybrid inflation in a supersymmetric QCD theory is proposed whose parameters are the gauge coupling and quark masses. Its gravitational coupling to another SQCD sector induces a metastable supersymmetry breaking vacuum of the ISS type as ISS quarks become massive at the end of inflation. Using a known mechanism with a gravitational breaking of the baryon number and the gauging of flavour symmetries, we find that gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking is compatible with the dynamics of the inflation sector. Reheating proceeds via the thermalization of the ISS messengers into the standard model states. This setup contains a single dimensionful parameter in the form of a quark mass term in the inflationary sector, i.e. all other scales involved are either related to this single mass parameter or dynamically generated.
We search for viable models of direct gauge mediation, where the SUSY-breaking sector is (generalized) SQCD, which has cosmologically favorable uplifted vacua even when the reheating temperature is well above the messenger scale. This requires a relatively large tadpole term in the scalar potential for the spurion field X and, consequently, we argue that pure (deformed) SQCD is not a viable model. On the other hand, in SQCD with an adjoint, which is natural e.g. in string theory, assuming an appropriate sign in the Kahler potential for X, such metastable vacua are possible.
We propose a strongly coupled supersymmetric gauge theory that can accommodate both the inflation (in the form of generalized hybrid inflation) and dark matter (DM). In this set-up, we identify the DM as the Goldstones associated with the breaking of a global symmetry ($SU(4)\times SU(4) \to SU(4)$) after inflation ends. Due to the non-abelian nature of this symmetry, the scenario provides with multiple DMs. We then construct a low energy theory which generates a Higgs portal like coupling of the DMs with Standard Model (SM), thus allowing them to thermally freeze out. While the scales involve…
In this article we compute the two-loop SQCD corrections to Higgs-quark-quark couplings in the generic MSSM generated by diagrams involving squarks and gluinos. We give analytic results for the two-loop contributions in the limit of vanishing external momenta for general SUSY masses valid in the MSSM with general flavour-structure. Working in the decoupling limit (M_SUSY >> v) we resum all chirally enhanced corrections (related to Higgs-quark-quark couplings) up to order α_s^(n+1) tan(β)^n. This resummation allows for a more precise determination of the Yukawa coupling and CKM elements of the …
We show that supersymmetry and R-symmetry can be dynamically broken in a long-lived metastable vacuum of SQCD with massive and massless flavors. The vacuum results from a competition of a (leading) two-loop effect and small "Planck" suppressed higher-dimension operators. This mechanism provides a particularly simple realization of dynamical SUSY and R-symmetry breaking, and as such it is a good starting point for building phenomenologically viable models of gauge mediation. We take a preliminary step in this direction by constructing a complete model of minimal gauge mediation. Here we find th…
The top-pair production in association with a $Z^0$-boson at a photon-photon collider is an important process in probing the coupling between top-quarks and vector boson and discovering the signature of possible new physics. We describe the impact of the complete supersymmetric QCD(SQCD) next-to-leading order(NLO) radiative corrections on this process at a polarized or unpolarized photon collider, and make a comparison between the effects of the SQCD and the standard model(SM) QCD. We investigate the dependence of the lowest-order(LO) and QCD NLO corrected cross sections in both the SM and min…
We present a complete next-to-leading order (NLO) calculation for the total cross section for inclusive Higgs pair production via bottom-quark fusion at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) and the minimal supergravity model (mSUGRA). We emphasize the contributions of squark and gluino loops (SQCD) and the decoupling properties of our results for heavy squark and gluino masses. The enhanced couplings of the b quark to the Higgs bosons in supersymmetric models with large tanb yield large NLO SQCD corrections in some regions of parameter space.
We investigate neutralino dark matter from a string/M-theory perspective. Using the Kallosh-Linde (KL) scenario to stabilize the string moduli requires supersymmetry breaking for uplifting to a de Sitter vacuum. We consider the free magnetic dual description of $\mathcal{N}=1$ SUSY QCD with massive flavours, the Intriligator-Seiberg-Shih model (ISS), as an F-term dynamical SUSY breaking sector. This framework allows for a gravitino mass in the TeV range. Moreover, due to the plethora of particles from the ISS sector, we investigate the consequences of coupling the MSSM with the KL-ISS setup to…
The similarity of massive CSW scalar vertices and quark vertices can be understood using a kind of light-cone SUSY transformation presented in this paper. We also show that the canonical transformation generating the MHV-SQCD lagrangian, can be fixed by applying this light-cone SUSY transformation to the canonical transformation for MHV-QCD obtained in paper arxiv:0805.0239. Most of the massive CSW vertices for SQCD can also be pinned down in this way.
We study the effects of O(alpha_s) supersymmetric QCD (SQCD) corrections on the total production rate and kinematic distributions of polarized and unpolarized top-pair production in pp and p anti-p collisions. At the Fermilab Tevatron p anti-p collider, top-quark pairs are mainly produced via quark-antiquark annihilation, q anti-q -> t anti-t, while at the CERN LHC pp collider gluon-gluon scattering, g g -> t anti-t, dominates. We compute the complete set of O(alpha_s) SQCD corrections to both production channels and study their dependence on the parameters of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standa…
In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, the effective b quark Yukawa coupling to the lightest neutral Higgs boson is enhanced. Therefore, the associated production of the lightest Higgs boson with a b quark is an important discovery channel. We consider the SUSY QCD contributions from squarks and gluinos and discuss the decoupling properties of these effects. A comparision of our exact Order(alpha_s) results with those of a widely used effective Lagrangian approach, the Delta_b approximation, is also presented.
We study the stability of the neutral- and charged-current Drell-Yan process in association with a jet as a standard candle at the LHC under the inclusion of O(alpha_s) supersymmetric QCD (SQCD) corrections within the MSSM. We include the decay of the electroweak gauge boson into dileptons, i.e. we consider the production of charged lepton--anti-lepton or lepton-neutrino final states with one hard jet. We find that the SQCD corrections are negligible for the integrated cross section. Only at high lepton transverse momentum can they induce effects of the percent level.
In this paper we investigate the possibility of finding models that, in the global minimum, break SUSY by a combined F and D-term effect. We find that if the superpotential is a cubic polynomial in the fields and the Kahler potential is canonical this does not happen. We then give two examples where the previous conditions do not apply and where the vacuum of the model breaks SUSY by combined F and D-term vevs: SQCD+singlet with N_C=N_F+1, and a baryon deformed ISS model. We briefly discuss the phenomenological viability of the models.
Anomalously small gaugino masses are a common feature of various models of direct gauge mediation. This problem is closely related to the vacuum structure of the theory. In this paper we show that massive SQCD can have SUSY-breaking vacua which are qualitatively different from the ISS vacuum. These novel vacua are metastable with respect to decay to the ISS vacuum. We demonstrate the possibility of addressing the gaugino mass problem in this framework. We study the properties of these vacua and construct an example of a model of direct gauge mediation.
The decay rates of metastable SQCD vacua in ISS-type models, both towards supersymmetric vacua as well as towards other nonsupersymmetric configurations arising in theories with elementary spectators, are estimated numerically in the semiclassical approximation by computing the corresponding multifield bounce configurations. The scaling of the bounce action with respect to the most relevant dimensionless couplings and ratios of scales is analyzed. In the case of the decays towards the susy vacua generated by nonperturbative effects, the results confirm previous analytical estimations of this s…
We have calculated the two-loop strong interaction corrections to the chargino pole masses in the DRbar'-scheme in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with complex parameters. We have performed a detailed numerical analysis for a particular point in the parameter space and found corrections of a few tenths of a percent. We provide a computer program which calculates chargino and neutralino masses with complex parameters including the one-loop corrections and all two-loop SQCD effects.
We briefly review the instanton-torus knot duality found in 5d SUSY gauge theories with one compact dimension. The fermion condensate turn out to be the generating function for the torus knot polynomials colored by the fundamental representation.
The associated production of a Higgs boson with a b quark is a discovery channel for the lightest MSSM neutral Higgs boson. We consider the SUSY QCD contributions from squarks and gluinos and discuss the decoupling properties of these effects. A detailed comparison of our exact order(alpha_s) results with those of a widely used effective Lagrangian approach, the Δ_b approximation, is presented. The Δ_b approximation is shown to accurately reproduce the exact one-loop SQCD result to within a few percent over a wide range of parameter space.
We study a version of Starobinsky-like inflation in no-scale supergravity (SUGRA) where a Polonyi term in the hidden sector breaks supersymmetry (SUSY) after inflation, providing a link between the gravitino mass and inflation. We extend the theory to the visible sector and calculate the soft-SUSY breaking parameters depending on the modular weights in the superpotential and choice of Kähler potential. We are led to either no-scale SUGRA or pure gravity mediated SUSY breaking patterns, but with inflationary constraints on the Polonyi term setting a strict upper bound on the gravitino mass $m_…
By the use of an effective superpotential in supersymmetric quantum chromodynamics (SQCD) with N_f flavors and N_c colors of quarks for N_f>=N_c+2, the influence of soft supersymmetry (SUSY) breakings is examined to clarify dynamics of chiral symmetry breakings near the SUSY limit. In case that SQCD triggers spontaneous chiral symmetry breakings, it is possible to show that our superpotential dynamically favors the successive formation of condensates, leaving either SU(N_f-N_c) or SU(N_f-N_c+1) unbroken as a chiral nonabelian symmetry.
In the framework of Supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories (SUSY GUTs), the universe undergoes a cascade of symmetry breakings, during which topological defects can be formed. We address the question of the probability of cosmic string formation after a phase of hybrid inflation within a large number of models of SUSY GUTs in agreement with particle and cosmological data. We show that cosmic strings are extremely generic and should be used to relate cosmology and high energy physics. This conclusion is employed together with the WMAP CMB data to strongly constrain SUSY hybrid inflation models. …
The SUSY hybrid inflation model is found to dissipate radiation during the inflationary period. Analysis is made of parameter regimes in which these dissipative effects are significant. The scalar spectral index, its running, and the tensor-scalar ratio are computed in the entire parameter range of the model. A clear prediction for strong dissipative warm inflation is found for n_S-1 \simeq 0.98 and a low tensor-scalar ratio much below 10^{-6}. The strong dissipative warm inflation regime also is found to have no η-problem and with the field amplitude much below the Planck scale. As will be di…
We propose a scenario for realizing inflation in the framework of supersymmetric B-L extension of the Standard Model. We find that one of the associated right-handed sneutrinos (the superpartner of the Standard Model singlet fermion) can provide a new non-trivial inflationary trajectory at tree level (therefore breaking B-L during inflation). As soon as the inflation ends, the right-handed sneutrino falls into the supersymmetric vacuum, with a vanishing vacuum expectation value, so that B-L symmetry is restored. In this class of models, the B-L gauge symmetry will be radiatively broken at a Te…
In this paper we consider the violation of supersymmetric equvalence among the R parity violating couplings $lamabda_{ijk}$ caused by widely split chiral supermultiplets. We find that if $λ^{\prime}_{2jk}=g$ and $λ^{\prime}_{1jk}=e$ then the violation of SUSY equivalence is of the order of $5-6%$ in heavy SQCD models. On the other hand if $λ^{\prime}_{3jk}=g$ and $λ_{ijk}=e$ then the violation of SUSY equivalence can be as large as 9.4% in 2-1 models.
We examine a non-Abelian SUSY $SU(2) \times U(1)$ gauge theory and a SUSY U(1) theory originally used to investigate the microphysics of cosmic strings in supersymmetric theories. We show that both theories automatically include hybrid inflation. In the latter theory we use a $D$ term to break the symmetry. SUSY is broken during inflation and restored afterwards. Cosmic strings are formed at the end of inflation. The temperature anisotropy is calculated and found to vary as $(M_{GUT}/M_P)^2$.
We consider dynamical models of supersymmetry breaking which naturally incorporate cosmological inflation. The inflaton plays an inevitable role in dynamical SUSY breaking and the hierarchical scales of inflation and SUSY breaking are simultaneously realized through a single dynamics.
We consider supersymmetric QCD in the free magnetic phase with massless and massive flavors. The theory has a supersymmetry breaking pseudo-moduli space of vacua and a runaway behavior far away from the origin. A two-loop computation reveals that the origin is destabilized and there is no meta-stable SUSY breaking solution. We also study the embedding of this model in type IIA string theory and find evidence for similar behavior. The perturbative brane dynamics involves simple interactions between branes, correctly predicting the two-loop result in the gauge theory. Our results also apply to t…
We consider the Standard Models of particle physics and hot big bang cosmology, and review the theoretical and experimental motivations for extending these models to include supersymmetry and inflation. An obvious extension would be to unite these two models into a single all-encompassing theory. We identify a list of theoretical challenges that such a theory must address, which we illustrate with a simple model - a variant of the next-to-minimal supersymmetric Standard Model - that addresses these challenges.
The Hubble parameter during the inflationary era must be smaller than the gravitino mass if the moduli are stabilized by the Kachru-Kallosh-Linde-Trivedi mechanism. This condition represents the difficulty to combine the low scale SUSY breaking and the high scale inflation. We propose a simple mechanism which can naturally separate the inflation scale from the SUSY breaking scale today.
The theory of inflation will be investigated as well as supersymmetry breaking in the context of supergravity, incorporating the target-space duality and the non-perturbative gaugino condensation in the hidden sector. The inflation and supersymmetry breaking occur at once by the interplay between the dilaton field as inflaton and the condensate gauge-singlet field. The model satisfies the slow-roll condition which solves the eta-problem. When the particle rolls down along the minimized trajectry of the potential V(S,Y) at a duality invariant fixed point T=1, we can obtain the e-fold value \sim…
We show how gauged flavour breaking and N = 1 supersymmetry breaking can be dynamically aligned to produce natural models. Supersymmetry is broken in a metastable vacuum, while a weakly gauged flavour symmetry is identified with an SU(3)_F subgroup of the global symmetry of the SQCD model. We find that alignment can easily occur either through strongly coupled flavour models, with SQCD bound states playing the role of flavons, or entirely weakly coupled and renormalizable models with elementary SU(3)_F adjoint flavons. In both cases it is essential that the SU(3)_F breaking, and hence all the …
The recently observed mass ~ 125 GeV for the Higgs boson suggests a high-energy scale SUSY breaking, above O(10) TeV. It is, however, very puzzling why nature chooses such a high energy scale for the SUSY breaking, if the SUSY is a solution to the hierarchy problem. We show that the pure gravity mediation provides us with a possible solution to this puzzle if the topological inflation is the last inflation in the early universe. We briefly discuss a chaotic inflation model in which a similar solution can be obtained.
The theory of inflation will be investigated as well as supersymmetry breaking in the context of supergravity, incorporating the target-space duality and the nonperturbative gaugino condensation in the hidden sector. We found an inflationary trajectory of a dilaton field and a condensate field which breaks supersymmetry at once. The model satisfies the slow-roll condition which solves the eta-problem. When the particle rolls down along the minimized trajectory of the potential V(S,Y) at a duality invariant point of T=1, we can obtain the e-fold value \sim 57. And then the cosmological paramete…
We investigate the possibility of a bosonic preheating in the simplest model of supersymmetric Hybridinflation (F-term inflation), which was considered first by Dvali et al. Here the inflationary superpotential is of the O'Raifertaigh-Witten type. The end of inflation is related to a non-thermal phase transition, which in the context of left-right symmetric models lowers the rank of the gauge group. Using the homogeneous classical field ansatz for the appearing condensates, our results indicate that the parametric creation of bosonic particles does not occure in the model under consideration.
We analyze the adjoint field inflation in supersymmetric (SUSY) SU(5) model. In minimal SUSY SU(5) hybrid inflation monopoles are produced at the end of inflation. We therefore explore the non-minimal model of inflation based on SUSY SU(5), like shifted hybrid, which provides a natural solution for the monopole problem. We find that the supergravity corrections with non-minimal Kahler potential are crucial to realize the central value of the scalar spectral index n_s ~ 0.96 consistent with the seven year WMAP data. The tensor to scalar ratio r is quite small, taking on values r < 10^{-5}. Due …
We show that Supersymmetric models with Type I seesaw neutrino masses support slow roll inflection point inflation. The inflaton is the D-flat direction labelled by the chiral invariant HLN composed of the Higgs(H), slepton(L) and conjugate sneutrino(N) superfields. The scale of inflation and fine tuning is set by the conjugate neutrino Majorana mass $M_{ν^c} \sim 10^6-10^{12}$ GeV. The cubic term in the (quartic) inflaton potential is dominantly from superpotential (not soft Susy breaking) couplings. The tuning conditions are thus insensitive to soft supersymmetry breaking parameters and are …
We briefly review several Higgs inflation models and discuss their cosmological implications. We first classify the inflation models according to the predicted value of the tensor-to-scalar ratio: (i) $r = {\cal O}(0.01-0.1)$, (ii) $r = {\cal O}(10^{-3})$, and (iii) $r \ll 10^{-3}$. For each case we study (i) the Higgs inflation with a running kinetic term, (ii) the Higgs inflation with a non-minimal coupling to gravity, and (iii) the $B-L$ Higgs inflation. In the last case we introduce supersymmetry to suppress the Coleman-Weinberg corrections for successful inflation, and derive the upper bo…
The slow roll inflation requires an extremely flat inflaton potential. The supersymmetry (SUSY) is not only motivated from the gauge hierarchy problem, but also from stabilizing that flatness of the inflaton potential against radiative corrections. However, it has been known that the Planck suppressed higher order terms in the Kähler potential receive large radiative corrections loosing the required flatness in the N = 1 supergravity. We propose to impose a global N = 2 SUSY on the inflaton sector. What we find is that the N = 2 SUSY Abelian gauge theory is exactly the same as the desired hybr…
Process of preheating for supersymmetric hybrid model of inflation is generally analyzed in two different ways known as parametric resonance and tachyonic preheating. In a common frame-work, we study both the processes from the decay or growth of homogeneous inflaton field and inhomogeneous waterfall field. We find that these two processes in SUSY hybrid F-term inflation are not parameter independent; rather one process will be more preferable than the other depending on the values of parameters and Fourier mode of the waterfall field. Parameters of the inflationary potential are constrained f…
In this paper we consider a class of inflation models on the brane where the dominant part of the inflaton scalar potential does not depend on the inflaton field value during inflation. In particular, we consider supernatural inflation, its hilltop version, A-term inflation, and supersymmetric (SUSY) D- and F-term hybrid inflation on the brane. We show that the parameter space can be broadened, the inflation scale generally can be lowered, and still possible to have the spectral index $n_s=0.96$.
We study the conditions of restoring supersymmetry (SUSY) after inflation in the supergravity-based cosmological models with a single chiral superfield and a quartic stabilization term in the Kähler potential. Some new, explicit, and viable inflationary models satisfying those conditions are found. The inflaton's scalar superpartner is dynamically stabilized during and after inflation. We also demonstrate a possibility of having small and adjustable SUSY breaking with a tiny cosmological constant.
We propose a limited class of models, describing interacting chiral multiplets with a non-minimal coupling to a vector multiplet, in curved superspace of $N=1$ supergravity. Those models are suitable for the inflationary model building in supergravity with inflaton assigned to a massive vector multiplet and spontaneous SUSY breaking in Minkowski vacuum after inflation, for any values of the inflationary parameters $n_s$ and $r$, and any scale of SUSY breaking.
The discovery of a large tensor-to-scalar ratio by the BICEP2 experiment points to large field excursions during inflation. One framework that predicts large $r$ is monodromy inflation. While discussed mainly in the context of string theory, the phenomenon can be illustrated and studied in the well-understood framework of SUSY QCD with a large number of colors. We discuss the requirements for viable inflation as well as various difficulties for model building, including tunneling, tuning, and the species problem.
We discuss how the inflation induced supersymmetry breaking affects the flat directions of SUSY vacua. We show that under general assumptions all gauge nonsinglet fields, parameterizing flat directions (and in particular squarks and sleptons), get large $radiative$ masses which are related to the value of the Hubble constant ($H$) and to the expectation value of the inflaton field. This mass (typically $\sim H$) is of ``non-gravitational'' origin and does not vanishes in the global SUSY limit. Large radiative corrections are induced by $F$-term (or $D$-term) density, which dominates the inflat…
Thermal inflation usually requires an inflationary potential with nonrenormalizable operators (NROs). We demonstrate how O'Raifeartaigh models with or without NROs can provide thermal inflation and a solution to the moduli problem, as well as provide SUSY breaking. We then discuss a scenario where generalized O'Raifeartaigh potentials (with NROs) are included in a SUGRA where the supergravity and O'Raifeartaigh potentials provide negative and a positive contributions to the cosmological constant respectively. Tuning these contributions to nearly cancel can provide the present value of the dark…
It has been argued that rather generic features of string-inspired inflationary theories with low-energy supersymmetry (SUSY) make it difficult to achieve inflation with a Hubble scale H > m_{3/2}, where m_{3/2} is the gravitino mass in the SUSY-breaking vacuum state. We present a class of string-inspired supergravity realizations of chaotic inflation where a simple, dynamical mechanism yields hierarchically small scales of post-inflationary supersymmetry breaking. Within these toy models we can easily achieve small ratios between m_{3/2} and the Hubble scale of inflation. This is possible bec…
Thermal inflation is an attractive idea to dilute cosmic density of unwanted particles such as moduli fields which cause cosmological difficulties. However, it also dilutes preexisting baryon asymmetry and some viable baryogenesis is necessary for a cosmologically consistent scenario. We investigate whether the Affleck-Dine mechanism can produce baryon asymmetry enough to survive after the dilution in gauge-mediated SUSY breaking models. Flat directions except for $LH_u$ flat direction cannot provide such huge baryon number because of Q-ball formation. We show that although the $LH_u$ flat dir…
We consider the supersymmetry breaking effects on typical inflation models with different types of Kähler potential. The critical size of supersymmetry-breaking scale, above which the flatness of the inflaton potential is spoiled, drastically changes model by model. We present the universal description of such effects in terms of a field-dependent scaling factor by which gravity-mediated supersymmetry breaking terms are suppressed or enhanced, based on the conformal supergravity framework. Such a description would be useful when we estimate them in constructing supersymmetric models of particl…
Gravitinos are generically produced by inflaton decays, which place tight constraints on inflation models as well as supersymmetry breaking scale. We revisit the gravitino production from decays of the inflaton and the supersymmetry breaking field, based on a chaotic inflation model suggested by the recent BICEP2 result. We study cosmological constraints on thermally and non-thermally produced gravitinos for a wide range of the gravitino mass, and show that there are only three allowed regions of the gravitino mass: $m_{3/2}\lesssim 16$eV, $m_{3/2}\simeq 10$--$1000$TeV and $m_{3/2}\gtrsim 10^{…
We explore the novel possibility that the inflaton responsible for cosmological inflation is a gauge non-singlet in supersymmetric (SUSY) Grand Unified Theories (GUTs). For definiteness we consider SUSY hybrid inflation where we show that the scalar components of gauge non-singlet superfields, together with fields in conjugate representations, may form a D-flat direction suitable for inflation. We apply these ideas to SUSY models with an Abelian gauge group, a Pati-Salam gauge group and finally Grand Unified Theories based on SO(10) where the scalar components of the matter superfields in the …
We consider cosmological perturbations caused by modulated inflaton velocity. During inflation, the inflaton motion is damped and the velocity is determined by the parameters such as couplings or masses that may depend on light fields(moduli). The number of e-foldings is different in different patches if there are spatial fluctuations of such parameters. Based on this simple idea, we consider ``modulated inflation'' in which the curvature perturbation is generated by the fluctuation of the inflaton velocity. This talk is based on our recent papers.
We propose a general scenario for moduli stabilization where low-energy supersymmetry can be accommodated with a high scale of inflation. The key ingredient is that the stabilization of the modulus field during and after inflation is not associated with a single, common scale, but relies on two different mechanisms. We illustrate this general scenario in a simple example, where during inflation the modulus is stabilized with a large mass by a Kahler potential coupling to the field which provides the inflationary vacuum energy via its F-term. After inflation, the modulus is stabilized, for inst…
We consider the curvaton scenario in the context of supersymmetry (SUSY) with gravity-mediated SUSY breaking. In the case of a large initial curvaton amplitude during inflation and a negative order H^2 correction to the mass squared term after inflation, the curvaton will be close to the minimum of its potential at the end of inflation. In this case the curvaton amplitude fluctuations will be damped due to oscillations around the effective minimum of the curvaton potential, requiring a large expansion rate during inflation in order to account for the observed energy density perturbations, in c…
We consider a broad class of inflationary models of two unconstrained chiral superfields, the stabilizer $S$ and the inflaton $Φ$, which can describe inflationary models with nearly arbitrary potentials. These models include, in particular, the recently introduced theories of cosmological attractors, which provide an excellent fit to the latest Planck data. We show that by adding to the superpotential of the fields $S$ and $Φ$ a small term depending on a nilpotent chiral superfield $P$ one can break SUSY and introduce a small cosmological constant without affecting main predictions of the orig…
In this paper, we consider high scale (100 TeV) supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking and realize the idea of hilltop supernatural inflation in concrete particle physics models based on flipped-SU(5) and Pati-Salam models in the framework of supersymmetric grand unified theories (SUSY GUTs). The inflaton can be a flat direction including right-handed sneutrino and the waterfall field is a GUT Higgs. The spectral index is $n_s=0.96$ which fits very well with recent data by PLANCK satellite. There is no both thermal and non-thermal gravitino problems. Non-thermal leptogenesis can be resulted from the de…
We review the realization of Starobinsky-type inflation within induced-gravity Supersymmetric (SUSY) and non-SUSY models. In both cases, inflation is in agreement with the current data and can be attained for subplanckian values of the inflaton. The corresponding effective theories retain perturbative unitarity up to the Planck scale and the inflaton mass is predicted to be 3x10^13 GeV. The supergravity embedding of these models is achieved by employing two gauge singlet chiral supefields, a superpotential that is uniquely determined by a continuous R and a discrete Zn symmetry, and several (s…
Spontaneously broken supersymmetry (SUSY) and a vanishingly small cosmological constant imply that R symmetry must be spontaneously broken at low energies. Based on this observation, we suppose that, in the sector responsible for low-energy R symmetry breaking, a discrete R symmetry remains preserved at high energies and only becomes dynamically broken at relatively late times in the cosmological evolution, i.e., after the dynamical breaking of SUSY. Prior to R symmetry breaking, the Universe is then bound to be in a quasi-de Sitter phase---which offers a dynamical explanation for the occurren…
We provide an anthropic reason that the supersymmetry breaking scale is much higher than the electroweak scale as indicated by the null result of collider experiments and observed 125 GeV Higgs boson. We focus on a new inflation model as a typical low-scale inflation model that may be expected in the string landscape. In this model, the R-symmetry is broken at the minimum of the inflaton potential and its breaking scale is related to the reheating temperature. Once we admit that the anthropic principle requires thermal leptogenesis, we obtain a lower bound on gravitino mass, which is related t…
We reconsider the Polonyi problem in gravity-mediation models for supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking. It has been argued that there is no problem in the dynamical SUSY breaking scenarios, since the Polonyi field acquires a sufficiently large mass of the order of the dynamical SUSY-breaking scale Lamada_{SUSY}. However, we find that a linear term of the Polonyi field in the Kahler potential brings us back to the Polonyi problem, unless the inflation scale is sufficiently low, H_{inf} < 10^{8} GeV, or the reheating temperature is extremely low, T_{R} < 100 GeV. Here, this Polonyi problem is more seri…
