We give an overview of the experimental measurements and the theoretical understanding of the branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetries of charmless B-meson decays. Most experimetal results are from the BABAR and Belle experiments during the past decade. The global features of these experimental results are typically well described by the QCD-motivated theories such as QCD factorization, pQCD and soft-collinear effective theory. The agreement between theory and experiment is generally satisfactory, though there remain some unsolved puzzles that pose a great challenge to both theorists and experimentalists.
A way of circumventing the gauge and infrared problems with effective Wilson coefficients is shown. Implications of experimentally measured charmless $B$ decays are discussed.
I introduce the properties of the light axial-vector mesons. The branching ratios, longitudinal fractions and direct CP asymmetries of the related charmless two-body B decays into final states involving two axial-vector mesons ($AA$) or one vector and one axial-vector meson ($VA$) are discussed within the framework of QCD factorization.
We perform a model dependent fit to recent data on charmless hadronic B decays and determine $γ$, the phase of $V^*_{ub}$. We find $γ= 114^{+25}_{-21}$ degrees, which disfavors the often quoted $γ\sim 60^\circ$ at the two standard deviation level. We also fit for the form factors $F_0^{Bπ}$ and $A_0^{Bρ}$, and the strange-quark mass. They are consistent with theoretical expectations, although $m_s$ is somewhat low. Such agreement and the good $χ^2$ for the fit may be interpreted as a confirmation of the adequacy of our model assumptions.
Status of nonfactorizable effects in hadronic charmless B decays is reviewed. Implications of new CLEO measurements on $B^0\toπ^+π^-$ and $B\toη' K$ are discussed. Nonfactorizable effects due to color ocet 4-quark operators are calculated using renormalization group improved QCD sum rules. The resultant B-meson lifetime ratio $τ(B^-)/τ(B_d)$ agrees with experiment.
Flavor SU(3) analysis of heavy meson ($B$ and $D$) hadronic charmless decays can be formulated in two different ways. One is to construct the SU(3) irreducible representation amplitude (IRA) by decomposing effective Hamiltonian according to the SU(3) transformation properties. The other is to use the topological diagrams (TDA). These two methods should give equivalent physical results in the SU(3) limit. Using $B \to PP$ decays as an example, we point out that previous analyses in the literature using these two methods do not match consistently in several ways, in particular a few SU(3) indepe…
We give the first estimate of charmless scalar meson emitting weak hadronic decays of 0 $\Lembda_{b}^{0}$, $Ξ_{b}^{0}$ and $Ξ_{b}^{-}$ bottom baryons employing the pole model and consequently predict their branching ratios.
We report on the status of the perturbative calculation in the QCD factorization framework to charmless hadronic B meson decays and present a compilation of available NNLO results.
Nonleptonic two body B decays including radially excited $π(1300)$ or $ρ(1450)$ mesons in the final state are studied using the framework of generalized naive factorization approach. Branching ratios and CP asymmetries of $B\to Pπ(1300)$, $B\to Vπ(1300)$, $B\to Pρ(1450)$ and $B\to Vρ(1450)$ decays are calculated, where P and V stand for pseudoscalar and vector charmless mesons. Form factors for $B\to π(1300)$ and $B\to ρ(1450)$ transitions are estimated in the improved version of the Isgur-Scora-Grinstein-Wise quark model. In some processes, CP asymmetries of more than 10% and branching ratios…
Global fits to charmless B --> PP decays in the framework of flavor SU(3) symmetry are updated and improved without reference to the \sin2βmeasured from the charmonium decay modes. Fit results directly constrain the (\barρ,\barη) vertex of the unitarity triangle, and are used to predict the branching ratios and CP asymmetries of all decay modes, including those of the B_s system. Different schemes of SU(3) breaking in decay amplitude sizes are analyzed. The major breaking effect between strangeness-conserving and strangeness-changing decays can be accounted for by including a ratio of decay co…
We make an analysis of the hadronic invariant mass spectrum in inclusive charmless semileptonic B meson decays in a QCD-based approach. The decay width is studied as a function of the invariant mass cut. We examine their sensitivities to the parameters of the theory. The theoretical uncertainties in the determination of $|V_{ub}|$ from the hadronic invariant mass spectrum are investigated. A strategy for improving the theoretical accuracy in the value of $|V_{ub}|$ is described.
Using the next-to-leading order QCD-corrected effective Hamiltonian, charmless exclusive nonleptonic decays of the $B_s$ meson into $η$ or $η'$ are calculated within the generalized factorization approach. Nonfactorizable contributions are included with two different treatments. Some subtleties involved are discussed.
We report OPE predictions for hadronic mass and q^2 moments in inclusive semileptonic B decays without charm, taking into account experimental cuts on the charged lepton energy and on the hadronic invariant mass, and address the related theoretical uncertainty.
Utilizing all the experimental measured charmless $B \to PP$, $PV$ decay modes, where $P(V)$ denotes a light pseudoscalar (vector) meson, we extract the CKM angle $γ$ by global fit. All the unknown hadronic parameters are fitted with $γ$ together from experimental data, so as to make the approach least model dependent. The different contributions for various decay modes are classified by topological weak Feynman diagram amplitudes, which are to be determined by the global fit. To improve the precision of this approach, we consider flavor SU(3) breaking effects of topological diagram amplitudes…
The weak phase $γ$ is extracted from three-body charmless decays of $B$ mesons following a method proposed by Bhattacharya, Imbeault \& London. The result is obtained by combining the BABAR amplitude analyses for the processes $B^0 \rightarrow K^+ π^0 π^-$, $B^0 \rightarrow K_S^0 π^+ π^-$, $B^0 \rightarrow K_S^0 K_S^0 K_S^0$, $B^0 \rightarrow K^+ K_S^0 K^-$ and $B^+ \rightarrow K^+ π^+ π^-$, under the assumption of $α_{\rm{SU(3)}}$ flavour symmetry. Six possible solutions are found. One solution is compatible with the Standard Model while the others are not. It is also found that, when average…
Based on the assumption of two-quark structure of the scalar $K_0^*(1430)$, the CP-averaged branching ratios(BRs) and CP-violating asymmetries of charmless hadronic $B_q(q=u,d,s,c) \to \kst \kstb$ decays are studied in the standard model(SM) by employing the perturbative QCD(pQCD) factorization approach. Our predictions are the following: (1) the CP-averaged BRs for $B_{q} \to \kst \kstb$ decays in both scenarios vary in the range of $10^{-6} \sim 10^{-4}$ in the SM; (2) the magnitudes of $\acp^{\rm dir}(B_u \to {\kst}^+ {\kstb}^0)$ and $\acp^{\rm dir}(B_{d,s} \to {\kst}^+ {\kst}^-)$ in Scenar…
By choosing two typical input parameter points in the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model and using the QCD factorization (QCDF) approach, we studied the supersymmetric effects to the CP violation of the two-body charmless hadronic $B$ meson decays. We found that though the SUSY contributions can give large corrections to the CP asymmetries for some decay channels, they could not be distinguished experimentally from the SM values because of the large theoretical errors dominated by calculating the annihilation contributions in the QCDF approach.
Recently Belle collaboration reported new measurements for the branching fractions with the first observing two processes of $\mathcal{B}(Ξ_c^0\toΛK^0_S)$, $\mathcal{B}(Ξ_c^0\toΣ^0 K^0_S)$ and updating data for $\mathcal{B}(Ξ_c^0\toΣ^+ K^-)$. Combined with other known data on charmless two body decays of anti-triplet charmed baryons, a lot of information can be derived with the assistance of $SU(3)$ flavour symmetry. Using $SU(3)$ relations between different decay modes, we can give some predictions based on the new measurements which can be tested with the high luminosity experiments in the f…
The CLEO collaboration has studied two-body charmless hadronic decays of $B$ mesons into final states containing two pseudo-scalar mesons, or a pseudo-scalar and a vector meson. We summarize and discuss results presented during the winter/spring 1999 conference season, and provide a brief outlook towards future attractions to come. In particular, CLEO presented preliminary results on the decays $B^\pm \to π^\pmρ^0$ ($Br(B^\pm \to π^\pmρ^0) = (1.5 \pm 0.5 \pm 0.4)\times 10^{-5}$), $B\to π^\pmρ^\mp$ ($Br(B\to π^\pmρ^\mp)=(3.5^{+1.1}_{-1.0}\pm 0.5)\times 10^{-5}$), $B\to π^\pm K^{\star\mp}$ ($Br(…
Charmless hadronic decays of B mesons to a vector meson (V) and a tensor meson (T) are analyzed in the frameworks of both flavor SU(3) symmetry and generalized factorization. We also make comments on B decays to two tensor mesons in the final states. Certain ways to test validity of the generalized factorization are proposed, using $B \to VT$ decays. We calculate the branching ratios and CP asymmetries using the full effective Hamiltonian including all the penguin operators and the form factors obtained in the non-relativistic quark model of Isgur, Scora, Grinstein and Wise.
We review the perturbative QCD approach study of hadronic B decays. Utilizing the constrained parameters in these well measured decay channels, we study most of the possible charmless $B_s \to PP$, $PV$ and $VV$ decay channels in the perturbative QCD approach. In addition to the branching ratios and CP asymmetries, we also give predictions to the polarization fractions of the vector meson final states. The size of SU(3) breaking effect is also discussed. These predictions can be tested by the future LHCb experiment.
We compute the real part of the 2-loop vertex corrections for charmless hadronic B decays, completing the NNLO calculation of the topological tree amplitudes in QCD factorization. Among the technical aspects we show that the hard-scattering kernels are free of soft and collinear infrared divergences at the 2-loop level, which follows after an intricate subtraction procedure involving evanescent four quark operators. The numerical impact of the considered corrections is found to be moderate, whereas the factorization scale dependence of the topological tree amplitudes is significantly reduced a…
The perturbative QCD approach has achieved great success in the study of hadronic B decays. All of these predictions can be tested by the future LHCb experiment.
The charmless decay processes of $X(3872)$ provide us a good platform to study the nature and the decay mechanism of $X(3872)$. Based on a molecular nature of $X(3872)$ as a $\bar{D}D^*$ bound state, we have investigated the charmless decays $X(3872) \to VV$ and $VP$ via intermediate $D^*{\bar D} +c.c.$ meson loops, where $V$ and $P$ stand for light vector and pseudoscalar mesons, respectively. We discuss three cases, i.e., pure neutral components ($θ=0$), isospin singlet ($θ=π/4$) and neutral components dominant ($θ= π/6$), where $θ$ is a phase angle describing the proportion of neutral and c…
The decays of $B$ mesons to a pair of charmless pseudoscalar mesons ($PP$ decays) or to a vector and pseudoscalar meson ($VP$ decays) have been analyzed within the framework of flavor SU(3) symmetry and the Kobayashi-Maskawa mechanism of CP violation. Separate $PP$ and $VP$ fits proved to be successful in describing the experimental data (branching ratios, CP asymmetries and time-dependent parameters). Decay magnitudes and relative weak and strong phases have been extracted from the fits. Values of the weak phase $γ$ were found to be consistent with the current indirect bounds from other analy…

Within the framework of perturbative QCD factorization, we investigate the nonfactorizable contributions to these factorization-forbidden Quasi-two-body decays $B_{(s)}\rightarrow hχ_{c0}\rightarrow hπ^+π^-(K^+K^-)$ with $ h=π, K$. We compare our predicted branching ratios for the $B_{(s)}\rightarrow Kχ_{c0}\rightarrow Kπ^+π^-(K^+K^-)$ decay with available experiment data as well as predictions by other theoretical studies. The branching ratios of these decays are consistent with data and other theoretical predictions. In the Cabibbo-suppressed decays $B_{(s)}\rightarrow hχ_{c0}\rightarrow hπ^…
We discuss a novel pertubative QCD approach on the exclusive non-leptonic two body B-meson decays. We briefly review its ingredients and some important theoretical issues on the factorization approaches. We show numerical results which is compatible with recent experimantal data for the charmless B-meson decays.
In this paper, with the framework of (p)NRQCD and SCET, the processes $B_c\to M_1 M_2$ are investigated. Here $M_{1(2)}$ denotes the light charmless meson, such as $π$, $ρ$, $K$ or $K^*$. Based on the SCET power counting rules, the leading transition amplitudes are picked out, which include $A_{wA}^2$, $A_{wB}^2$, $A_{wC}^2$, $A_{wD}^2$ and $A_{c}^0$. From SCET, their factorization formulae are proven. Based on the obtained factorization formulae, in particular, the numerical calculation on $A_{wB}^2$ is performed.
Two-body charmless hadronic B decays involving a tensor meson in the final state are studied within the framework of QCD factorization (QCDF). Due to the G-parity of the tensor meson, both the chiral-even and chiral-odd two-parton light-cone distribution amplitudes of the tensor meson are antisymmetric under the interchange of momentum fractions of the quark and anti-quark in the SU(3) limit. Our main results are: (i) In the naive factorization approach, the decays such as $B^-\to \bar K_2^{*0}π^-$ and $\bar B^0\to K_2^{*-}π^+$ with a tensor meson emitted are prohibited owing to the fact that …
Charmless three-body decays of B mesons is studied using a simple model based on the framework of the factorization approach. Hadronic three-body decays receive both resonant and nonresonant contributions. Dominant nonresonant contributions to tree-dominated three-body decays arise from the $b\to u$ tree transition which can be evaluated using heavy meson chiral perturbation theory valid in the soft meson limit. For penguin-dominated decays, nonresonant signals come mainly from the penguin amplitude governed by the matrix elements of scalar densities $<M_1M_2|\bar q_1 q_2|0>$. We use the measu…
We study two-body charmless hadronic decays of $B$ mesons to a pseudoscalar meson ($P$) and a tensor meson ($T$) in the frameworks of both flavor SU(3) symmetry and generalized factorization. Certain ways to test validity of the generalized factorization are proposed, based on the flavor SU(3) analysis. We present a set of relations between a flavor SU(3) amplitude and a corresponding amplitude in the generalized factorization which bridge both approaches in $B \to PT$ decays. The branching ratios and CP asymmetries are calculated using the \emph{full} effective Hamiltonian including all the \…
We first study the charmless two-body $Λ_b$ decays with the scalar mesons as the final states and predict that ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to Λf_0(980,1500))=(2.9\pm 0.7,12.4\pm 3.8)\times 10^{-6}$ and ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to p K^{*-}_0(800,1430))=(1.9\pm 0.5,14.1\pm 4.5)\times 10^{-6}$. With the resonant $f_0(980,1500)\to (π^+π^-,K^+K^-)$ and $K^{*-}_0\to \bar K^0 π^-$ decays, we then obtain ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to Λ(π^+π^-,K^+K^-))=(4.2\pm 1.0,3.5\pm0.7)\times 10^{-6}$ and ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to p\bar K^0 π^-)=(10.4\pm2.9)\times 10^{-6}$, in comparison with the data of $(4.6\pm 1.9,15.9\pm2.6)\times 10^{-6}$ and $(12.6\pm 4.…
We study constraints on the CP violating phase $γ$ in the Kobayashi-Maskawa model using available experimental data. We first follow the conventional method to up date the constraint on $γ$ by performing a $χ^2$ analysis using data from $|ε_K|$, $Δm_{B_{d,s}}$ and $|V_{ub}/V_{cb}|$. We also include the recent information on $\sin2β$ in the analysis. We obtain the best fit for $γ$ to be $66^\circ$ and the 95% C.L. allowed range to be $42^\circ \sim 87^\circ$. We then develop a method to carry out a $χ^2$ analysis based on SU(3) symmetry using data from $B\to ππ$ and $B\to K π$. We also discuss …
Within the framework of QCD factorization (QCDF), we consider two different types of power correction effects in order to resolve the CP puzzles and rate deficit problems with penguin-dominated two-body decays of B mesons and color-suppressed tree-dominated $π^0π^0$ and $ρ^0π^0$ modes: penguin annihilation and soft corrections to the color-suppressed tree amplitude. We emphasize that the electroweak penguin solution to the $B\to Kπ$ CP puzzle via New Physics is irrelevant for solving the CP and rate puzzles related to tree-dominated decays. While some channels e.g. $K^-π^+,K^-ρ^0,π^+π^-,ρ^\pmπ…
The hadronic charmless B decays into a scalar meson and a pseudoscalar meson are studied within the framework of QCD factorization. Although the light scalar mesons $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ are widely perceived as primarily the four-quark bound states, in practice it is difficult to make quantitative predictions based on the four-quark picture for light scalars. Hence, predictions are made in the 2-quark model for the scalar mesons. Based on the QCD sum rule method, we have derived the leading-twist light-cone distribution amplitudes of scalar mesons and their decay constants. The short-dista…
Charmless 3-body decays of B mesons are studied in the framework of the factorization approach. The nonresonant contributions arising from $B\to P_1P_2$ transitions are evaluated using heavy meson chiral perturbation theory (HMChPT). The momentum dependence of nonresonant amplitudes is assumed to be in the exponential form $e^{-α_{NR}} p_B\cdot(p_i+p_j)}$ so that the HMChPT results are recovered in the soft meson limit $p_i, p_j\to 0$. In addition, we have identified another large source of the nonresonant signal in the matrix elements of scalar densities, e.g. $<K\bar K|\bar ss|0>$, which can…
In this work, we calculate the branching ratios (BRs) and the polarization fractions of sixty two charmless two-body $B_c$ meson decays into final states involving one vector and one axial-vector meson ($VA$) or two axial-vector mesons($AA$) within the framework of perturbative QCD (pQCD) approach systematically, where $A$ is either a $^3P_1$ or $^1P_1$ axial-vector meson. All considered decay channels can only occur through the annihilation topologies in the standard model. Based on the perturbative calculations and phenomenological analysis, we find the following results: (i) the CP-averaged…
Nonleptonic charmless B decays into a pseudoscalar (P) or a vector (V) meson accompanying a tensor (T) meson are re-analyzed. We scrutinize the hadronic uncertainties and ambiguities of the form factors which appear in the literature. The Isgur-Scora-Grinstein-Wise updated model (ISGW2) is adopted to evaluate the relevant hadronic matrix elements. We calculate the branching ratios and CP asymmetries for various $B\to P(V)T$ decay processes. With the ISGW2 model, the branching ratios are enhanced by about an order of magnitude compared to the previous estimates. We show that the ratios $\calB(B…
Implications of recent CLEO measurements of hadronic charmless B decays are discussed. (i) Employing the Bauer-Stech-Wirbel (BSW) model for form factors as a benchmark, the $B\toπ^+π^-$ data indicate that the form factor $F_0^{Bπ}(0)$ is smaller than that predicted by the BSW model, whereas the data of $B\toωπ, K^*η$ imply that the form factors $A_0^{Bω}(0), A_0^{BK^*}(0)$ are greater than the BSW model's values. (ii) The tree-dominated modes $B\toπ^+π^-, ρ^0π^\pm, ωπ^\pm$ imply that the effective number of colors N_c(LL) for (V-A)(V-A) operators is preferred to be smaller, while the current l…
We compute the imaginary part of the 2-loop vertex corrections in the QCD Factorization framework for hadronic two-body decays as B -> pi pi. This completes the NNLO calculation of the imaginary part of the topological tree amplitudes and represents an important step towards a NNLO prediction of direct CP asymmetries in QCD Factorization. Concerning the technical aspects, we find that soft and collinear infrared divergences cancel in the hard-scattering kernels which demonstrates factorization at the 2-loop order. All results are obtained analytically including the dependence on the charm quar…
We reanalyzed nonleptonic charmless two-body B decays involving tensor mesons in final state motivated by the disagreement between current experimental information and theoretical predictions obtained in ISGW2 model for some $\mathcal{B}(B \to P(V)T)$ (where $P$, $V$ and $T$ denote a pseudoscalar, a vector and a tensor meson, respectively). We have calculated branching ratios of charmless $B \to PT$ and $B\to VT$ modes, using $B \to T$ form factors obtained in the covariant light-front (CLF) approach and the full effective Hamiltonian. We have considered the $η-η^{\prime}$ two-mixing angle for…
We discuss the determination of the CKM angle $α$ using the non-leptonic two-body decays $B\to ππ$, $B\to ρρ$ and $B\to ρπ$ using the latest data available. We illustrate the methods used in each case and extract the corresponding value of $α$. Combining all these elements, we obtain the following determination of $α_{\rm dir}=( 86.2^{+4.4}_{-4.0}~~ \cup~~ 178.4^{+3.9}_{-5.1})^\circ$. We assess the uncertainties associated to the breakdown of the isospin hypothesis and the choice of statistical framework in detail. We also determine the hadronic amplitudes (tree and penguin) describing the QCD…
The problem of hadronic input in charmless nonleptonic B decays is discussed. QCD sum rules and their light-cone versions (LCSR) provide an important part of this input, such as the decay constant $f_B$ and $B\to π$ form factor. Employing the LCSR technique, the $B\to ππ$ hadronic matrix elements with emission, penguin and annihilation topologies are calculated, with no evidence for large nonfactorizable effects and/or strong phases.
Two-body charmless nonleptonic decays of B_u and B_d mesons are studied within the framework of generalized factorization in which the effective Wilson coefficients $c^{eff}_i$ are renormalization-scale and -scheme independent while factorization is applied to the tree-level hadronic matrix elements. Contrary to previous studies, our $c_i^{eff}$ do not suffer from gauge and infrared problems. Nonfactorizable effects are parametrized in terms of N_c(LL) and N_c(LR), the effective numbers of colors arising from (V-A)(V-A) and (V-A)(V+A) four-quark operators, respectively. Tree and penguin transi…
The charmless bottom meson decays are systematically investigated based on an approximate six quark operator effective Hamiltonian from perturbative QCD. It is shown that within this framework the naive QCD factorization method provides a simple way to evaluate the hadronic matrix elements of two body mesonic decays. The singularities caused by on mass-shell quark propagator and gluon exchanging interaction are appropriately treated. Such a simple framework allows us to make theoretical predictions for the decay amplitudes with reasonable input parameters. The resulting theoretical predictions…
We study 20 charmless hadronic $B \to f_1 P$ decays in the perturbative QCD(pQCD) formalism with $f_1$ representing axial-vector mesons $f_1(1285)$ and $f_1(1420)$ that result from a mixing of quark-flavor $f_{1q}$ and $f_{1s}$ states with the angle $ϕ_{f_1}$. The estimations of branching ratios and CP asymmetries of the considered $B \to f_1 P$ decays are presented in the pQCD approach with $ϕ_{f_1} \sim 24^\circ$ from recently measured $B_{d/s} \to J/ψf_1(1285)$ decays. It is found that (a) the tree(penguin) dominant $B^+ \to f_1 π^+(K^+)$ decays with large branching ratios[${\cal O}(10^{-6}…
With the generalized factorization approximation, we calculate the branching ratios and CP asymmetries in B meson decays into two charmless pseudoscalar mesons. We give a new estimation of the matrix elements of (S+P)(S-P) current products with the PQCD method instead of equation of motion. We find that our results are comparatively smaller than those in the literature.
The form factors of the weak $B_s$ transitions to the ground state and orbitally excited strange mesons are calculated in the framework of the QCD-motivated relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach. These form factors are expressed through the overlap integrals of meson wave functions found in their mass spectrum evaluations. The momentum dependence of the form factors is determined in the whole accessible kinematical range without any additional assumptions and extrapolations. Relativistic effects, including the wave function transformation from the rest to a moving refer…
I summarize results and performance of the dynamical theory of charmless hadronic B decays, based on QCD factorization in the heavy quark limit. On the theoretical side, a number of NNLO (alpha_s^2) amplitudes are now available, all showing a well-behaved perturbative expansion. The large observed branching fraction in B0 -> pi0 pi0 remains a challenge, implying either a large inverse moment of the B-meson wave function or a sizable power correction (or unexpected new physics). B-factory/Belle2 analyses of B -> gamma l nu may shed light on this. On the other hand, the new Belle and LHCb measur…
We compare the factorization approach, the perturbative QCD approach and the Beneke-Buchalla-Neubert-Sachrajda approach to nonleptonic charmless $B$ meson decays. We discuss their treatments of factorizable, nonfactorizable, and annihilation contributions, infrared-cutoff and scale dependences, and strong phases. It is proposed that measurement of CP asymmetries in two-body $B$ meson decays provides an appropriate test of the these approaches.
Using a theoretical framework based on the next-to-leading order QCD improved effective Hamiltonian, we have estimated the branching ratios and asymmetry parameters for the two body charmless nonleptonic decay modes of $Λ_b$ baryon i.e. $Λ_b \to p (π/ρ),~p(K/K^*)$ and $Λ(π/ρ)$, within the framework of generalized factorization. The nonfactorizable contributions are parametrized in terms of the effective number of colors, $N_c^{eff}$. So in addition to the naive factorization approach ($N_c^{eff}=3 $), here we have taken two more values for $N_c^{eff}$ i.e., $N_c^{eff}=2 $ and $\infty $. The ba…
Hadronic charmless B decays to scalar mesons are studied within the framework of QCD factorization (QCDF). Considering two different scenarios for scalar mesons above 1 GeV, we find that the data favor the scenario in which the scalars $a_0(1450)$ and $K_0^*(1430)$ are the lowest lying $q\bar q$ bound states. This in turn implies a preferred four-quark nature for light scalars below 1 GeV. Assuming $K_0^*(1430)$ being a lowest lying $q\bar s$ state, we show that the data of $B\to K_0^*(1430)η^{(')}$ and $B\to K_0^*(1430)(ρ,ω,ϕ)$ can be accommodated in QCDF without introducing power corrections…
Nonfactorizable effects in hadronic charmless B -> PP, VP decays can be parametrized in terms of the effective number of colors N_c in the effective parameters $a_i^{eff}$ that are linear combinations of Wilson coefficients. It is shown that N_c(V+A) in the penguin amplitudes induced by the (V-A)(V+A) four-quark operators is different from N_c(V-A) in the decay amplitudes arising from the (V-A)(V-A) operators. Central values of the branching ratios of $B^\pm\toωπ^\pm$ and $B\toππ$ decays favor $N_c(V-A)\approx 2$, in accordance with the nonfactorizable effect observed in $B\to D^{(*)}π(ρ)$. Me…
We discuss the decay of Bc mesons into two light mesons (pi, K^(*), eta', rho, omega, phi). All these decay channels come from a single type of diagram, namely tree annihilation. This allows us to derive extremely simple SU(3) relations among these processes. The size of annihilation contributions is an important issue in B physics, and we provide two different estimates in the case of non-leptonic charmless Bc decays, either a comparison with annihilation decays of heavy-light mesons or a perturbative model inspired by QCD factorisation. We finally discuss a possible search for these channels…
