Measurements of the neutral current cross sections for deep inelastic scattering in e^- p collisions at HERA with a longitudinally polarised electron beam are presented. The single-differential cross-sections dsigma/dQ^2, dsigma/dx and dsigma/dy and the double-differential cross sections in Q^2 and x are measured in the kinematic region y < 0.9 and Q^2 > 185 GeV^2 for both positively and negatively polarised electron beams and for each polarisation state separately. The measurements are based on an integrated luminosity of 169.9 pb^-1 taken with the ZEUS detector in 2005 and 2006 at a centre-of-mass energy of 318 GeV. The structure functions xF_3 and xF_3^{γZ} are determined by combining the e^- p results presented in this paper with previously measured e^+ p neutral current data. The asymmetry parameter A^- is used to demonstrate the parity violating effects of electroweak interactions at large spacelike photon virtuality. The measurements agree well with the predictions of the Standard Model.
Measurements of the cross sections for charged current deep inelastic scattering in e+p collisions with a longitudinally polarised positron beam are presented. The measurements are based on a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 132 pb^-1 collected with the ZEUS detector at HERA at a centre-of-mass energy of 318 GeV. The total cross section is presented at positive and negative values of the longitudinal polarisation of the positron beams. The single-differential cross-sections ds/dQ^2, ds/dx and ds/dy are presented for Q^2 > 200 GeV^2. The reduced cross-section is presented in the kin…
Azimuthal asymmetries in semi-inclusive production of positive (h^+) and negative hadrons (h^-) have been measured by scattering 160 GeV muons off longitudinally polarised deuterons at CERN. The asymmetries were decomposed in several terms according to their expected modulation in the azimuthal angle phi of the outgoing hadron. Each term receives contributions from one or several spin and transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution and fragmentation functions. The amplitudes of all phi-modulation terms of the hadron asymmetries integrated over the kinematic variables are found to be cons…

Inclusive e\pmp single and double differential cross sections for neutral and charged current deep inelastic scattering processes are measured with the H1 detector at HERA. The data were taken at a centre-of-mass energy of \surds = 319GeV with a total integrated luminosity of 333.7 pb-1 shared between two lepton beam charges and two longitudinal lepton polarisation modes. The differential cross sections are measured in the range of negative fourmomentum transfer squared, Q2, between 60 and 50 000GeV2, and Bjorken x between 0.0008 and 0.65. The measurements are combined with earlier published u…
New ZEUS data are added into the NLO QCD analysis of the ZEUS-JETS PDF fit. The addition of high-$Q^2$ NC and CC $e^-p$ inclusive cross-section data improves the determination of the $u$-valence quark at high $x$. The addition of high-$Q^2$ CC $e^+p$ inclusive cross-section data improves the determination of the $d$-valence quark at high $x$. The addition of lower-$Q^2$ NC $e^+p$ inclusive cross-section data, run at three different proton beam energies, improves the determination of the sea and gluon PDFs at small $x$. The new PDF fit is called the ZEUS09 PDF fit.
Inclusive e^\pm p single and double differential cross sections for neutral (NC) and charged current (CC) deep inelastic scattering processes are measured with the H1 detector at HERA. The data were taken at a centre-of-mass energy of \sqrt{s} = 319 GeV with a total integrated luminosity of 327.8 pb^{-1} shared between two lepton beam charges and two longitudinal lepton polarisation modes. The differential cross sections are measured in the range of negative four-momentum transfer squared, Q2, between 60 and 50 000 GeV2, and Bjorken x between 0.0008 and 0.65. The measurements are combined with…
The parameters of the electroweak theory are determined in a combined electroweak and QCD analysis using all deep-inelastic $e^+p$ and $e^-p$ neutral current and charged current scattering cross sections published by the H1 Collaboration, including data with longitudinally polarised lepton beams. Various fits to Standard Model parameters in the on-shell scheme are performed. The mass of the $W$ boson is determined as $m(W)=80.520\pm 0.115$ GeV. The axial-vector and vector couplings of the light quarks to the $Z$ boson are also determined. Both results improve the precision of previous H1 deter…
Polarisation asymmetries are measured for the hard exclusive leptoproduction of real photons from a longitudinally polarised hydrogen target. These asymmetries arise from the deeply virtual Compton scattering and Bethe-Heitler processes. From the data are extracted two asymmetries in the azimuthal distribution of produced real photons about the direction of the exchanged virtual photon: A_UL with respect to the target polarisation and A_LL with respect to the product of the beam and target polarisations. Results for both asymmetries are compared to the predictions from a generalised parton dis…
First measurements are presented of the diffractive cross section $σ_{ep \rightarrow eXY}$ at centre-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ of 225 and 252 GeV, together with a precise new measurement at $\sqrt{s}$ of 319 GeV, using data taken with the H1 detector in the years 2006 and 2007. Together with previous H1 data at $\sqrt{s}$ of 301 GeV, the measurements are used to extract the diffractive longitudinal structure function F_L^D in the range of photon virtualities 4.0 <= Q^2 <= 44.0 GeV^2 and fractional proton longitudinal momentum loss 5 10^{-4} <= x_{IP} <= 3 10^{-3}. The measured F_L^D is compa…
Recent Electroweak Measurements from the H1 and ZEUS Experiments
Neutral-current ({NC}) and charged-current ({CC}) deep inelastic scattering ({DIS}) reactions have been studied in $e^+p$ and $e^-p$ collisions using the {H1} and {ZEUS} detectors at {HERA I}. Following the upgrade of the {HERA} accelerator, the {HERA II} program recently started with the first data in $e^+p$ scattering with longitudinally polarised positrons. In this paper, a summary of the electroweak results from {HERA I} and the first measurement of the cross section for $e^+p$ CC {DIS} at a longitudinal polarisation value of 33% from the {ZEUS} collaboration are presented.
New measurements of neutral and charged current cross sections at large negative four-momentum transfer squared Q^2 have been performed by H1 and ZEUS, using up to the complete HERA II ep data, which was taken with polarised electron and positron beams. The data are compared to predictions of the Standard Model, based on various parton distribution function parameterisations. The polarisation asymmetry of the neutral current interaction is measured as a function of Q^2, as well as the polarisation dependence of the charged current cross section and both are found to be in agreement with the St…
This talk covers three contributions from H1: "Measurement of the inclusive e^\pm p scattering cross section at high inelasticity y and of the structure function F_L", "Determination of the integrated luminosity at HERA using elastic QED Compton events" and "Inclusive deep inelastic scattering at high Q2 with longitudinally polarized lepton beams at HERA". These are new measurements mainly based on the full HREA-II data but include also those from HERA-I in the combination whenever it is relevant. The main results of these measurements are briefly summarized here.
Neutral and charged current deep inelastic ep scattering with longitudinally polarised lepton beams has been studied with the H1 and ZEUS detectors at HERA. The differential cross sections were measured in the range of four-momentum transfer squared, Q^2, up to 50'000 GeV^2, where electroweak effects become clearly visible. The measurements were used to determine the structure function xF_3 and to constrain vector and the axial-vector couplings of the light quarks to the Z^0 boson. The polarisation dependence of the charged current total cross section was also measured. Limits on flavour chang…
Longitudinal polarisation of the lepton beam is a key ingredient to the success of the world's unique e\pmp ring collider HERA. This article aims at providing a brief introduction to the physics motivation for deep-inelastic scattering of polarised electrons or positrons off protons, the basic mechanisms to establish lepton polarisation in the high-energy storage ring and to describe briefly the three different polarimeters, which measured both the transverse and the longitudinal polarisation.
Measurements of neutral current cross sections for deep inelastic scattering in e+p collisions at HERA with a longitudinally polarised positron beam are presented. The single-differential cross-sections d(sigma)/dQ2, d(sigma)/dx and d(sigma)/dy and the reduced cross-section were measured in the kinematic region Q2 > 185 GeV2 and y < 0.9, where Q2 is the four-momentum transfer squared, x the Bjorken scaling variable, and y the inelasticity of the interaction. The measurements were performed separately for positively and negatively polarised positron beams. The measurements are based on an integ…
Single hadron azimuthal asymmetries of positive and negative hadrons produced in muon semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering off longitudinally polarised deuterons are determined using the 2006 COMPASS data and also combined all deuteron COMPASS data. For each hadron charge, the dependence of the azimuthal asymmetry on the hadron azimuthal angle $ϕ$ is obtained by means of a five-parameter fitting function that besides a $ϕ$-independent term includes four modulations predicted by theory: $\sinϕ$, $\sin 2 ϕ$, $\sin 3ϕ$ and $\cosϕ$. The amplitudes of the five terms have been extracted, first, …
