In this talk I review recent advances on the structure of the meson and baryon resonances which can be dynamically generated from the interaction of mesons or mesons and baryons. Particular emphasis is put on results involving vector mesons, which bring new light into the nature of some of the observed higher mass mesons and baryons and make predictions for new states.
Expansion of model Nambu-Jona-Lasinio is considered and on its basis an effective lagrangian for mesons, baryons and baryon - meson interaction has been obtained.
In this paper we give a computation of the mass spectrum of mesons and baryons. By this computation we show that there is a consecutive numbering of the mass spectrum of mesons and baryons. We show that in this numbering many stable mesons and baryons are assigned with a prime number. PACS numbers: 12.40.Yx, 14.20Gk, 14.40A, 14.40Cs.
We compute the polarization of the final-state baryon, in its rest frame, in low-energy meson--baryon scattering with unpolarized initial state, in Unitarized BChPT. Free parameters are determined by fitting total and differential cross-section data (and spin-asymmetry or polarization data if available) for $pK^-$, $pK^+$ and $pπ^+$ scattering. We also compare our results with those of leading-order BChPT.
We show that energetically favored meson-baryon fluctuations present in the light-cone wave function of a transversely polarized proton can account for the left-right asymmetries measured in inclusive meson production processes.
The original results for the baryon-pion couplings in the large $N_c$ QCD can be understood in a simpler way in the Hartree-Fock picture. The large $N_c$ relation and its $1/N_c$ correction between the heavy baryon-meson coupling and the light baryon-meson coupling are emphasized. Application to the baryon-$ρ$ meson interactions is straightforward. The implications of recent experimental result for the strong coupling constants of the heavy baryon chiral lagrangian are discussed.
We compute the spin asymmetry and polarization of the final-state baryon in its rest frame in two-body meson--baryon low-energy scattering with unpolarized initial state, to lowest non-trivial order in BChPT. The required absorptive amplitudes are obtained analytically at one-loop level. We discuss the polarization results numerically for several meson--baryon processes. Even at low energies above threshold, where BChPT can reasonably be expected to be applicable, sizable values of polarization are found for some processes.
Using the calculated values of the strong coupling constants of the heavy sextet spin-3/2 baryons to sextet and antitriplet heavy spin-1/2 baryons with light mesons within the light cone QCD sum rules method, and vector meson dominance assumption, the radiative decay widths are calculated. These widths are compared with the "direct" radiative decay widths predicted in the framework of the light cone QCD sum rules.
We study the spectra of mesons and baryons, composed of light quarks, in the framework of a semirelativistic potential model including instanton induced forces. We show how a simple modification of the instanton interaction in the baryon sector allows a good description of the meson and the baryon spectra using an interaction characterized by a unique set of parameters.
A new crossing symmetric unitarization scheme conveniently applied to meson-meson and meson-baryon scattering amplitudes is shortly proposed which can be not only used by theoreticians to unitarize arbitrary theoretical reaction amplitudes resulting from phenomenological Lagrangeans for mesons and baryons, yet also by experimentalists to generate realistic unitary fitting formulae for meson-meson and meson-baryon scattering observables sharing on one hand all the features of the underlying theoretical amplitudes, on the other hand allowing direct comparison to these amplitudes. The new unitari…
The chiral SU(3) Lagrangian with pseudoscalar and vector $D$ mesons and with the octet and decuplet baryons is considered. The leading two-body counter terms involving two baryon fields and two $D$ meson fields are constructed in the open-charm sector. There are 26 terms. A combined expansion in the inverse of the charm quark mass and in the inverse of the number of colors provides sum rules that reduce the number of free parameter down to 5 only. Our result shows the feasibility of a systematic computation of the open-charm baryon spectrum based on coupled-channel dynamics.
A constituent-quark (CQ) mapping of all the baryon and meson resonances is listed for < 3000 MeV. The Isotopic Tables of the Baryons and Mesons (2003) are based upon the CQ Model of M. H. Mac Gregor. Hadrons in boldface are predictions of Mac Gregor. Hadrons in blue indicate rotational states. Predicted hadrons and their spins are indicated in red color. Underlined baryons indicate SU(3) decuplet for J = 3/2. The tables may be extended to charmed and bottom baryons or mesons at a later date. The table for the baryons is expanded to incorporate the recently discovered S = + 1 baryon. Additional…
Using the most general form of the interpolating current for baryons, the strong electric and magnetic coupling constants of light vector mesons $ ρ$ and $ K^* $ with doubly heavy baryons are computed within the light-cone sum rules. We consider 2- and 3-particle distribution amplitudes of the aforementioned vector mesons. The obtained results can be useful in the analysis of experimental data on the properties of doubly heavy baryons conducted at LHC.
We show that the recently constructed complete and ``minimal'' third order meson-baryon effective chiral Lagrangian can be further reduced from 84 to 78 independent operators.
It has long been known that nonstrange baryon-meson scattering in the 1/N_c expansion of QCD greatly simplifies when expressed in terms of t-channel exchanges: The leading-order amplitudes satisfy the selection rule I_t = J_t. We show that I_t = J_t, as well as Y_t = 0, also hold for the leading amplitudes when the baryon and/or meson contain strange quarks, and also characterize their 1/N_c corrections, thus opening a new front in the phenomenological study of baryon-meson scattering and baryon resonances.
We have systematically calculated the S-wave pseudoscalar meson and decuplet baryon scattering lengths to the third order in the small scale expansion scheme of the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We hope the future study may test the framework and the present predictions.
We give the first estimate of charmless scalar meson emitting weak hadronic decays of 0 $\Lembda_{b}^{0}$, $Ξ_{b}^{0}$ and $Ξ_{b}^{-}$ bottom baryons employing the pole model and consequently predict their branching ratios.
It is shown that the empirical rule that the masses of the stable mesons and baryons of the gamma-branch are integer multiples of the mass of the pi0 meson with a maximal deviation of 3.3% holds also for the meson and baryon resonances, regardless whether the spin of the particles is 0 or 1/2. It is also shown that the masses of the particles with weak decay are integer multiples of the mass of the charged mesons times a common factor 0.853.
In a particle theory model whose most readily discovered new particle is the $\sim 1$TeV bilepton resonance in same-sign leptons, currently being sought at CERN's LHC, there exist three quarks ${\cal D, S, T}$ which will be bound by QCD into baryons and mesons. We consider the decays of these additional baryons and mesons whose detailed experimental study will be beyond the reach of the 14 TeV CERN collider and accessible only at an O(100 TeV) collider.
We construct the three-flavor Lorentz-invariant meson-baryon chiral Lagrangians at the order $p^4$, with which a full one-loop investigation may be performed. One obtains 540 independent terms. The processes with the minimal number of mesons and photons that this order Lagrangians may contribute to are also presented.
We present explicit formulae for the SU(3) Clebsch-Gordan coefficients that are relevant for the couplings of large N_c baryons to mesons. In particular, we compute the Clebsch-Gordan series for the coupling of the octet (associated with mesons, and remains the correct representation at large N_c) to the large N_c analogs of the baryon octet and decuplet representations.
Using phenomenological formulae, we deduce the masses and quantum numbers of the quarks from two elementary quarks ($ε_{u}$ and $ε_{d}$) first. Then using the sum laws and a binding energy formula, in terms of the qqq baryon model and SU(4), we deduce the masses and quantum numbers of the important baryons from the deduced quarks. At the same time, using the sum laws and a binding energy formula, in terms of the quark-antiquark bound state meson model, we deduce the masses and quantum numbers of the mesons from the deduced quarks. The deduced masses of the baryons and mesons are 98% consistent…
The large-$N_c$ limit of the meson-baryon effective Lagrangian is shown to reduce to a semiclassical field theory. A chiral bag structure emerges naturally in the $N_c\rightarrow \infty$ limit. A possible connection between the chiral bag picture and the Skyrme model is discussed. The classical meson-baryon theory is used to reproduce the $M_π^3$ non-analytic correction to the baryon mass obtained previously as a loop correction in chiral perturbation theory.
The chiral expansion of the one-loop corrections to baryon masses is examined in a generic meson-cloud model with meson-baryon form factors. For pion loops, the expansion is rapidly convergent and at fourth order in $m_π$ accurately reproduces the full integral. In contrast, the expansion is found to converge very slowly for kaon loops, raising questions about the usefulness of chiral expansions for kaon-baryon physics. Despite the importance of high-order terms, relations like that of Gell-Mann and Okubo are well satisfied by the baryon masses calculated with the full integral. The pion cloud…
The existence of hadronic molecular-type hybrids consisting of a baryon and a meson is argued. Long-range interactions due to one-pion exchange is shown to be strong enough to produce a loosely bound state. Specific features of a molecular hybrid are discussed.
The strong coupling constant of doubly heavy baryons with light pseudoscalar mesons $ π$ and $ K $ are computed within the light cone sum rules. We take into account two-particle and three-particle distribution amplitudes of the said pseudoscalar mesons. We compare our result with the one existing in the literature.
The approach of path integral hadronization, applied to a quark-diquark toy model, is used to derive an effective chiral meson-baryon Lagrangian. In this approach the Goldberger-Treiman relation, found at the quark-meson level, is re-established at the composite hadron level. For illu- strations, electromagnetic low energy characteristics of composite nucleons are estimated.
We apply an extension of the Weinberg compositeness condition on partial waves of $L=1$ and resonant states to determine the weight of meson-baryon component in the $Δ(1232)$ resonance and the other members of the $J^P= \frac{3}{2}^+$ baryon decuplet. We obtain an appreciable weight of $πN$ in the $Δ(1232)$ wave function, of the order of 60 \%, which looks more natural when one recalls that experiments on deep inelastic and Drell Yan give a fraction of $πN$ component of 34 \% for the nucleon. We also show that, as we go to higher energies in the members of the decuplet, the weights of meson-ba…
We calculate the coupling constants between the light vector mesons and heavy baryons within the framework of the light-cone QCD sum rule in the leading order of heavy quark effective theory. Most resulting sum rules are stable with the variations of the Borel parameter and the continuum threshold. The extracted couplings will be useful in the study of the possible heavy baryon molecular states.
I describe a special class of meson-like Λ_Q excited states and present evidence supporting the similarity of their spin-independent spectra to those of mesons. I then examine spin-dependent forces in these baryons, showing that predicted effects of spin-orbit forces are small for them for the same reason they are small for the analogous mesons: a fortuitous cancellation between large spin-orbit forces due to one-gluon-exchange and equally large inverted spin-orbit forces due to Thomas precession in the confining potential. In addition to eliminating the baryon spin-orbit puzzle in these state…
Mesonic baryon resonance decays are calculated from constituent quark models along a Poincaré-invariant generalization of the elementary emission model. Covariant results of pionic decay widths are presented for the Goldstone-boson-exchange constituent quark model.
In the framework of percolation of strings, we present predictions for the $R_{AA}$ and $R_{CP}$ for mesons and baryons and for $\bar{p}/π^{0}$ ratios at LHC energies.
An extended chiral constituent quark approach, which embodies higher Fock five-quark components in the baryons wave-functions, is employed to study the sea quark content of the octet baryons. We report on the probabilities of $\bar{u}$, $\bar{d}$ and $\bar{s}$ in the nucleon, $Λ$, $Σ$ and $Ξ$ baryons, arising from the intrinsic five-quark states in the baryons wave functions. Based on those probabilities, results for meson-nucleon $σ$-terms; namely $σ_{πN}, σ_{K N}$ and $σ_{ηN}$, are presented.
The heavy spin--3/2 baryon--heavy spin--1/2 baryon vertices with light vector mesons are studied within the light cone QCD sum rules method. These vertices are parametrized in terms of three coupling constants. These couplings are calculated for all possible transitions. It is shown that correlation functions for these transitions are described by only one invariant function for every Lorenz structure. The obtained relations between the correlation functions of the different transitions are structure independent while explicit expressions of invariant functions depend on the Lorenz structure.
Using the general form of the baryon currents, we calculate the meson-baryon coupling constants and the F/D ratio within the framework of light cone QCD sum rules in the SU(3) flavor symmetry limit. The dependence of the results on the Dirac structure and on the free parameter (b) appearing in the general baryon current is considered. Comparison of our results on F/D ratio with the existing results is presented.
New equations are derived for meson and baryon Green's functions in a systematic method using the QCD Lagrangian and large N_c approximation as a starting point. The equations are shown to contain both confinement dynamics and chiral symmetry breaking. Linear Regge trajectories are demonstrated for the solutions.
Introductory lectures (delivered at TASI, June 1994) on heavy quarks and heavy quark effective field theory. Applications to inclusive semileptonic decays and to interactions with light mesons are covered in detail.
We calculate the two-pion exchange potential between a heavy meson and a heavy baryon. We find this potential is as strong as the one-pion exchange potential between two heavy mesons and is enough to bind $Λ_b-\bar B$. Though our result is sensitive to the cut-off, the value of the cut-off is in the reasonable region.
It is shown in the work of one of the authors in 1979 (MKV) that the contribution to the amplitude of this decay from diagrams with one baryon loop is equal to zero and contributions from diagrams with meson loops appear very small. However, pole diagrams with intermediate vector mesons were not considered there. Here it is shown that contributions of these pole diagrams dominate. The meson-baryon chiral model used here is compared with known quark chiral models. The obtained results are in satisfactory agreement with recent experimental data.
The strong coupling form factors related to the strong vertices of the positive and negative parity nucleons with the heavy $Λ_{b[c]}[Σ_{b[c]}]$ baryons and heavy $B^*[D^*]$ vector mesons are calculated using a three-point correlation function. Using the values of the form factors at $Q^2=-m^2_{meson}$ we compute the strong coupling constants among the participating particles.
A new Hamiltonian model is introduced to study the spectrum of light hadrons. It combines relativistic field theory with elements of the constituent quark model. In addition to the standard linear confining and pseudoscalar meson exchange interactions with predetermined parameters, an additional interaction with different covariant spin structures is examined. Using a large scale Monte Carlo variational procedure, the resulting model Hamiltonian provides a very good, unified description of the light quark baryon (both octet and decuplet) and meson spectra.
The thermal and quark/baryon chemical potential dependences of quark condensate and masses of $π$- and $σ$-mesons are studied in the instanton model of the QCD vacuum in precritical region. The impact of phonon-like excitations of instanton liquid on the characteristics of $σ$-meson in such an environment is also examined.
We construct a spectral representation for the baron to meson transition distribution amplitudes (TDAs), i.e. matrix elements involving three quark correlators which arise in the description of baryon to meson transitions within the factorization approach to hard exclusive reactions. We generalize for these quantities the notion of double distributions introduced in the context of generalized parton distributions. We propose the generalization of A.Radyushkin's factorized Ansatz for the case of baryon to meson TDAs. Our construction opens the way to modeling of baryon to meson TDAs in their co…
Sum rules relating the masses of ground-state baryons and mesons are obtained in a constituent quark model. The interaction is assumed to be independent of quark spins except for a spin-dependent part that can be treated as a perturbation. Where data are available, the sum rules agree with experiment to better than 1\%.
The strong coupling constants of the $π$ and $K$ mesons with negative parity octet baryons are estimated within the light cone QCD sum rules. It is observed that all strong coupling constants, similar to the case for the positive parity baryons, can be described in terms of three invariant functions, where two of them correspond to the well known $F$ and $D$ couplings in the $SU(3)_f$ symmetry, and the third function describes the $SU(3)_f$ symmetry violating effects. We compare our predictions on the strong coupling constants of pseudoscalar mesons of negative parity baryons with those corres…
In this paper, we analyze the doubly heavy spin-3/2--spin-1/2 baryons and light meson vertices within the method of light-cone QCD sum rules. These vertices are parametrized in terms of one (three) coupling constant(s) for the pseudoscalar (vector) mesons. The said coupling constants are calculated for all possible transitions. The results presented here can serve to be useful information in experimental as well as theoretical studies of the properties of doubly heavy baryons.
We report on recent progress on the chiral unitary approach, which is shown to have a much larger convergence radius than ordinary chiral perturbation theory, allowing one to reproduce data for meson meson interaction up to 1.2 GeV and meson baryon interaction up to the first baryonic resonances. Applications to physical processes so far unsuited for a standard chiral perturbative approach are presented, concretely the K^- p\toΛ(1405)γreaction and the N^\ast (1535)N^\ast(1535)πand ηcouplings.
Making use of numerous resonances discovered by the Crystal Barrel Collaboration we discuss some possible relations between the baryon and meson spectra of resonances composed of the light non-strange quarks. Our goal is to indicate new features that should be reproduced by the realistic dynamical models describing the hadron spectrum in the sector of light quarks.
The strong coupling constants of heavy baryons with light vector mesons are calculated in the framework of the light cone QCD sum rules using the most general form of the interpolating currents for the heavy baryons. It is shown that the sextet--sextet, sextet--antitriplet and antitriplet--antitriplet transitions are described by one invariant function for each class of transitions. The values of the electric and magnetic coupling constants for these transitions are obtained.
We discuss a holographic soft-wall model developed for the description of mesons and baryons with adjustable quantum numbers n, J, L, S. This approach is based on an action which describes hadrons with broken conformal invariance and which incorporates confinement through the presence of a background dilaton field.
In this talk we report on the use of a chiral unitary approach for the interaction of the octets of meson and baryon and the octet of mesons with the decuplet of baryons. Two octets of $J^π=1/2^-$ baryon states and a singlet are generated dynamically in the first case, resulting in the case of strangeness $S=-1$ in two poles of the scattering matrix close to the nominal $Λ(1405)$ resonance. In the second case many resonances are also generated, among them an exotic baryon with S=1 corresponding to a $ΔK$ resonance. We make suggestions of experiments which could show evidence for the existence …
Mesons and baryons are considered in soft-wall holographic approach based on the correspondence of string theory in AdS space and conformal field theory in physical space-time. The model generates Regge trajectories linear in n and J (L) for the hadronic mass spectrum. Results obtained for heavy-light meson masses and decay constants are consistent with predictions of HQET. In the baryon sector applications to the nucleon electromagnetic form factors and generalized parton distributions are discussed.
The strong coupling constants between light vector mesons and octet-decuplet baryons are calculated in framework of the light cone QCD sum rules, taking into account SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking effects. It is shown that all strong coupling constants can be represented in terms of a single universal function. Size of the SU(3) symmetry breaking effects are estimated.
The chiral SU(3) Lagrangian with the baryon octet and decuplet fields is considered. The Q^2 counterterms involving the decuplet fields are constructed. We derive the correlation of the chiral parameters implied by the 1/N_c expansion at leading order in QCD.
In the paper we discuss contribution of the doubly intrinsic heavy mechanism into the production of $B_c$ meson, the doubly heavy baryons and the all-charm tetraquark at a future fixed-target experiment at the LHC (AFTER@LHC). The production cross sections and the mean values of Feynman-x for the finale states are presented.
We calculate the strong coupling constants of light pseudoscalar mesons with heavy baryons within the light cone QCD sum rules method. It is shown that sextet--sextet, sextet--antitriplet and antitriplet--antitriplet transitions are described by one universal invariant function for each class. A comparison of our results on the coupling constants with the predictions existing in literature is also presented.
The strong coupling constants of light pseudoscalar $π$, $K$ and $η$ mesons with decuplet--octet baryons are studied within light cone QCD sum rules, where $SU(3)_f$ symmetry breaking effects are taken into account. It is obtained that all coupling constants under the consideration are described by only one universal function even if $SU(3)_f$ symmetry breaking effects are switched into the game.
We perform the complete regularization of all Green functions with a single incoming and outgoing baryon to order q^3 in the low energy expansion for the SU(3) meson-baryon system in chiral perturbation theory. The divergences can be extracted in a chiral invariant manner by making use of the heat kernel representation of the propagators in d-dimensional Euclidean space.
Using a constituent quark model we study the mass and decay channels of meson meson and meson baryon structures in the charm sector. We show that the $X(3872)$ and $X(3940)$ resonances can be described as mixed charmonium-molecular states with $J^{PC}=1^{++}$, whereas the $X(3915)$ and the $Y(3940)$ can be assigned to similar mixed states with $J^{PC}=0^{++}$. In the baryon spectrum we identify the $Λ^+_c(2940)$ as a $D^*N$ molecule with $(I)J^P=(0)3/2^-$ and the recently reported $X_c(3250)$ as a $D^*Δ$ resonance with $(I)J^P=(1)5/2^-$ or $(I)J^P=(2)3/2^-$.
The strong coupling constants among members of the heavy spin--3/2 baryons containing single heavy quark with light pseudoscalar mesons are calculated in the framework of the light cone QCD sum rules. Using symmetry arguments, the structure independent relations among different correlation functions are obtained. It is shown that all possible transitions can be described in terms of one universal invariant function whose explicit expression is Lorenz structure dependent.
