We use the semi-classical (Doppler shift) approximation to calculate magnetic field angle-dependent density of states and thermal conductivity kappa_zz for a superconductor with a quasi-two-dimensional Fermi surface and line nodes along k_x=0 and k_y=0. We theoretically discuss the magnetic-field-angle dependence of the zero-energy density of states (ZEDOS) in superconductors. Point-node and line-node superconducting gaps on spherical and cylindrical Fermi surfaces are considered. The Doppler-shift (DS) method and the Kramer-Pesch approximation (KPA) are used to calculate the ZEDOS. Numerical results show that consequences of the DS method are corrected by the KPA.
A multiband superconductor with a conventional phonon mechanism can develop an unconventional state with a nontrivial order parameter phase relation between the individual bands. We propose that such a state can explain recent experimental results on MgCNi3, which are suggestive of both s-wave pairing symmetry and of unconventional superconductivity. We show that such a state gives rise to Andreev bound states, and to spontaneous currents, at surfaces and around impurities. Superconductive properties of the two-leg ladder compounds are studied theoretically. The antiferromagnetic fluctuations are considered because of the good nesting of the Fermi surfaces. The attractive interaction which is most likely due to the electron-phonon coupling is also taken into account. A brief review of unconventional superconductivity is given, stretching from the halcyon days of helium-3 to the modern world of Majorana fermions. Along the way, we will encounter such strange beasts as heavy fermion superconductors, cuprates, and their iron-based cousins. High-Tc superconductivity in layered cuprates is described in a BCS-BEC formalism with linearly-dispersive s- and d-wave Cooper pairs moving in quasi-2D finite-width layers about the CuO_2 planes. This yields a closed formula for Tc determined by the layer width, the Debye frequency, the pairing energy, and the in-plane penetration depth. Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides entwine interaction, spin-orbit coupling, and topology. Hole-doped systems lack spin degeneracy: states are indexed with spin and valley specificity. We realize an unconventional superconducting pairing phase which is an equal mixture of a spin singlet and the $m = 0$ spin triplet. We have evaluated the total carrier mass enhancement factor f_{t} for MgB_{2} from two independent experiments (specific heat and upper critical field). These experiments consistently show that f_{t} = 3.1\pm0.1. The unusually large f_{t} is incompatible with the measured reduced gap (2Δ(0)/k_{B}T_{c} = 4.1) and the total isotope-effect exponent (α= 0.28\pm0.04) within the conventional phonon-mediated model. We propose an unconventional phonon-mediated mechanism, which is able to quantitatively explain the values of T_{c}, f_{t}, α, and the reduced energy gap in a consistent way.

We demonstrate how potential impurities are a very powerful tool for determining the pairing symmetry in graphene proximity-coupled to a spin-singlet superconductor. All d-wave states are characterized by subgap resonances, with spatial patterns clearly distinguishing between nodal and chiral d-wave symmetry, while s-wave states have no subgap resonances. We also find strong supergap impurity resonances associated with the normal state Dirac point. Sub- and supergap resonances only interact at very low doping levels, then causing suppression of the supergap resonances.

We report the discovery of a low-temperature phase transition in Bi_2Sr_2Ca(Ni_xCu_{1-x})_20_8 high temperature superconductor. This transition manifests itself as a sharp reduction of the thermal conductivity of the samples at a temperature of T_c* \approx 200 mK. The temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity changes dramatically from T^αwith αbetween 1.6 and 1.75 above the transition to T-linear behavior below the transition. The iron-based LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_x$ recently discovered by Hosono's group is a fresh theoretical challenge as a new class of high-temperature superconductors.
