We consider theories where the Standard Model (SM) neutrinos acquire masses through the seesaw mechanism at the weak scale. We show that in such a scenario, the requirement that any pre-existing baryon asymmetry, regardless of its origin, not be washed out leads to correlations between the pattern of SM neutrino masses and the spectrum of new particles at the weak scale, leading to definite predictions for the LHC. For type I seesaw models with a TeV scale Z' coupled to SM neutrinos, we find that for a normal neutrino mass hierarchy, at least one of the right-handed neutrinos must be `electrophobic', decaying with a strong preference into final states with muons and tauons rather than electrons. For inverted or quasi-degenerate mass patterns, on the other hand, we find upper bounds on the mass of at least one right-handed neutrino. In particular, for an inverted mass hierarchy, this bound is 1 TeV, while the corresponding upper limit in the quasi-degenerate case is 300 GeV. Similar results hold in type III seesaw models, albeit with somewhat more stringent bounds. For the Type II seesaw case with a weak scale SU(2) triplet Higgs, we again find that an interesting range of Higgs triplet masses is disallowed by these considerations.
I review the present understanding of connection between the non-zero neutrino masses and the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. The state-of-art results are presented for the standard thermal leptogenesis.
In the inverse seesaw scenario, several fermion singlets have a small Majorana mass term. We show such Majorana masses can be suppressed by some heavy fermion and/or Higgs singlets after a global symmetry is spontaneously broken. These interactions can also accommodate a leptogenesis mechanism to explain the cosmic baryon asymmetry.
We study the possibility of connecting leptonic Dirac CP phase $δ$, lightest neutrino mass and baryon asymmetry of the Universe within the framework of a model where both type I and type II seesaw mechanisms contribute to neutrino mass. Type I seesaw gives rise to Tri-Bimaximal (TBM) type neutrino mixing whereas type II seesaw acts as a correction in order to generate non-zero $θ_{13}$. We derive the most general form of type II seesaw mass matrix which can not only give rise to correct neutrino mixing angles but also can generate non-trivial value of $δ$. Considering both the cases where type…
We compute and also compare the contributions of canonical and noncanonical mass terms towards baryon asymmetry by considering type-II seesaw mass models of neutrinos: Degenerare(3 varieties), Normal hierarchical and Inverted hierarchical(2 varieties). We have shown that for particular choices of parameter '$γ$'(the so-called discriminator) for different neutrino mass models, the baryon asymmetry is largely dominated by canonical term. Within such type-II seesaw scenario, we find normal hierarchical mass model as the most favourable choice of nature.
A simplified but very instructive analysis of the seesaw mechanism is here performed. Assuming a nearly diagonal Dirac neutrino mass matrix, we study the forms of the Majorana mass matrix of right-handed neutrinos, which reproduce the effective mass matrix of left-handed neutrinos. As a further step, the important effect of a non diagonal Dirac neutrino mass matrix is explored. The corresponding implications for the baryogenesis via leptogenesis and for the neutrinoless double beta decay are reviewed. We propose two distinct models where the baryon asymmetry is enhanced.
We discuss the correlation between the CP violating Dirac phase of the lepton mixing matrix and the cosmological baryon asymmetry based on the leptogenesis in the minimal seesaw model with two right-handed Majorana neutrinos and the trimaximal mixing for neutrino flavors. The sign of the CP violating Dirac phase at low energy is fixed by the observed cosmological baryon asymmetry since there is only one phase parameter in the model. According to the recent T2K and NO$ν$A data of the CP violation, the Dirac neutrino mass matrix of our model is fixed only for the normal hierarchy of neutrino mas…
We discuss phenomenology in a new TeV scale model which would explain neutrino oscillation, dark matter, and baryon asymmetry of the Universe simultaneously by the dynamics of the extended Higgs sector and TeV-scale right-handed neutrinos. Tiny neutrino masses are generated at the three-loop level due to the exact $Z_2$ symmetry, by which the stability of the dark matter candidate is guaranteed. The model provides various discriminative predictions in Higgs phenomenology, which can be tested at the Large Hadron Collider and the International Linear Collider.
In leptogenesis scenario, the decays of heavy Majorana neutrinos generate lepton family asymmetries, $Y_e, Y_μ$ and $Y_τ$. They are sensitive to CP violating phases in seesaw models. The time evolution of the lepton family asymmetries are derived by solving Boltzmann equations. By taking a minimal seesaw model, we show how each family asymmetry varies with a CP violating phase. For instance, we find the case that the lepton asymmetry is dominated by $Y_μ$ or $Y_τ$ depending on the choice of the CP violating phase. We also find the case that the signs of lepton family asymmetries $Y_μ$ and $Y_τ…
We study the possibility that the baryon asymmetry of the universe is generated in a minimal seesaw scenario where two right-handed Majorana neutrinos with degenerate masses are added to the standard model particle content. In the usual framework of thermal leptogenesis, a nonzero $CP$ asymmetry can be obtained through the mass splitting induced by the running of the heavy Majorana neutrino masses from their degeneracy scale down to the seesaw scale. Although, in the light of the present neutrino oscillation data, the produced baryon asymmetry turns out to be smaller than the experimental valu…
The seesaw mechanism to derive the light masses of left-handed neutrinos using heavy masses of right-handed neutrinos gives rise to a connection between low-energy measurables and GUT-scale mechanism. We expresses the neutrino mixing angles in terms of a single variable $\sinθ_{13}$, whose size was measured recently. The lepton asymmetry from heavy neutrinos via Yukawa coupling is described by CP phases in both Dirac and Majorana type. It is shown that the seesaw scale relevant to the lepton asymmetry can be constrained by CP phase in this minimal model.
In type I seesaw models with flavor symmetries accounting for the lepton mixing angles the CP asymmetry in right-handed neutrino decays vanishes in the limit in which the mixing pattern is exact. We study the implications that additional degrees of freedom from type II seesaw may have for leptogenesis in such a limit. We classify in a model independent way the possible realizations of type I and II seesaw schemes, differentiating between classes in which leptogenesis is viable or not. We point out that even with the interplay of type I and II seesaws there are generic classes of minimal models…
We show that the type-I seesaw, responsible for generating the light neutrino mass, itself is capable of accommodating one of the three right handed neutrinos as a freeze-in type of dark matter (DM) where the required smallness of the associated coupling is connected to the lightness of the (smallest) active neutrino mass. It turns out that (a) the non-thermal production of DM having mass $\lesssim \mathcal{O}(1)$ MeV (via decays of $W, Z$ bosons and SM Higgs) consistent with relic density as well as (b) its stability determine this smallest active neutrino mass uniquely $\sim {\mathcal{O}}(10…
We attempt to understand the baryon-dark-matter coincidence problem within the quark seesaw extension of the standard model where parity invariance is used to solve the strong CP problem. The $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R\times U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry of this model is extended by a dark $U(1)_X$ group plus inclusion of a heavy neutral vector-like fermion $χ_{L,R}$ charged under the dark group which plays the role of dark matter. All fermions are Dirac type in this model. Decay of heavy scalars charged under $U(1)_X$ leads to simultaneous asymmetry generation of the dark matter and baryons after sp…
We have explored an extended seesaw model accommodating a keV sterile neutrino adopting $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry. This model provides a natural platform for achieving resonant leptogenesis to account for the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe. The required lepton asymmetry is sourced by the CP violating decay of the lightest heavy right handed neutrino to Standard Model leptons and Higgs. The presence of the light sterile neutrino in the model brings out an enhancement in the final lepton asymmetry through an additional self-energy contribution. Adopting a proper treatment for all the wash…
We present an S$_4$ flavour symmetric model within a minimal seesaw framework resulting in mass matrices that leads to TM$_1$ mixing. Minimal seesaw is realized by adding two right-handed neutrinos to the Standard Model. The model predicts Normal Hierarchy (NH) for neutrino masses. Using the constrained six-dimensional parameter space, we have evaluated the effective Majorana neutrino mass, which is the parameter of interest in neutrinoless double beta decay experiments. The possibility of explaining baryogenesis via resonant leptogenesis is also examined within the model. A non-zero, resonant…
We require that the primordial baryon asymmetry is not washed out in the seesaw model compatible with the recent results of WMAP and the neutrino oscillation experiments including the first results of KamLAND. We find that only the case of the normal neutrino mass hierarchy with an approximate $L_{e}$-symmetry satisfies the requirement. We further derive, depending on the signs of neutrino mass eigenvalues, three types of neutrino mass matrixes, where the values of each element are rather precisely fixed.
We extend the DFSZ invisible axion model to simultaneously explain small Dirac neutrino masses and cosmic matter-antimatter asymmetry. After the Peccei-Quinn and electroweak symmetry breaking, the effective Yukawa couplings of the Dirac neutrinos to the standard model Higgs scalar can be highly suppressed by the ratio of the vacuum expectation value of an iso-triplet Higgs scalar over the masses of some heavy gauge-singlet fermions, iso-doublet Higgs scalars or iso-triplet fermions. The iso-triplet fields can carry a zero or nonzero hypercharge. Through the decays of the heavy gauge-singlet fe…
In the context of $SO(10) \to SU(5) \times U(1)_χ$, it is shown how seesaw Dirac neutrinos may be obtained. In this framework, $U(1)$ lepton number is conserved, with which self-interaction dark matter with a light scalar dilepton mediator may be implemented. In addition, $U(1)$ baryon number may be broken to $(-1)^{3B}$, thereby generating a baryon asymmetry of the Universe. The axionic solution to the strong $CP$ problem may also be incorporated.
The inverse seesaw mechanism allows the neutrino masses to be generated by new physics at an experimentally accessible scale, even with O(1) Yukawa couplings. In the inverse seesaw scenario, the smallness of neutrino masses is linked to the smallness of a lepton number violating parameter. This parameter may arise radiatively. In this paper, we study the cosmological implications of two contrasting radiative inverse seesaw models, one due to Ma and the other to Law and McDonald. The former features spontaneous, the latter explicit lepton number violation. First, we examine the effect of the le…
We study the possibility of generating non-zero reactor mixing angle $θ_{13}$ and baryon asymmetry of the Universe within the framework of an $A_4$ flavour symmetric model. Using the conventional type I seesaw mechanism we construct the Dirac and Majorana mass matrices which give rise to the correct light neutrino mass matrix. Keeping the right handed neutrino mass matrix structure trivial so that it gives rise to a (quasi) degenerate spectrum of heavy neutrinos suitable for resonant leptogenesis at TeV scale, we generate the non-trivial structure of Dirac neutrino mass matrix that can lead to…
We discuss the phenomenology of type-II seesaw by extending the Standard Model with additional Higgs doublets and scalar triplets additionally invoked with $Δ(27)$ flavor symmetry for the explanation of non-zero neutrino masses and mixings, matter-antimatter asymmetry and lepton flavor violation. The non-zero neutrino masses can be realized via type-II seesaw mechanism by introducing scalar triplets transforming as triplets under $Δ(27)$ while we add additional $SU(2)_L$ scalar doublets to have correct charge lepton masses. We further demonstrate with detailed numerical analysis in agreement w…
By inverting the seesaw formula we determine the heavy neutrino mass matrix. The impact on the baryogenesis via leptogenesis and the radiative lepton decays in supersymmetric models is described. Links to neutrinoless double beta decay are also briefly discussed. The analysis leads to two distinct matrix models. One has small mixings while the other has one maximal mixing. Both cannot give a sufficient amount of baryon asymmetry. Then we also comment on a different form of the Dirac neutrino mass matrix, which does provide sufficient baryon asymmetry. In a supersymmetric scenario the branching…
We propose a non-thermal scenario for the generation of baryon number asymmetry in a radiative neutrino mass model which is modified to realize inflation at the early Universe. In this scenario, inflaton plays a crucial role in both generation of neutrino masses and lepton number asymmetry. Lepton number asymmetry is firstly generated in the dark matter sector through direct decay of inflaton. It is transferred to the lepton sector via the dark matter annihilation and then converted to the baryon number asymmetry due to the sphaleron interaction. All of the neutrino masses, the baryon number a…
We study the prediction of maximal zeros of the Dirac mass matrix on neutrino phenomenology and baryon asymmetry of the universe (BAU) within the framework of an inverse seesaw ISS $(2,3)$. We try to find the origin of the allowed two zero textures of the Dirac mass matrix from $S_{4}$ flavor symmetry. ISS $(2,3)$ model contains two pairs of quasi-Dirac particles and one sterile state in the keV scale along with three active neutrinos. The decays of the quasi-Dirac pairs create lepton asymmetry that can be converted to baryon asymmetry of the universe by the sphaleron process. Thus, BAU can be…
We propose a minimal type II seesaw model by introducing only one right-handed neutrino besides the $SU(2)_{L}$ triplet Higgs to the standard model. In the usual type II seesaw models with several right-handed neutrinos, the contributions of the right-handed neutrinos and the triplet Higgs to the CP asymmetry, which stems from the decay of the lightest right-handed neutrino, are proportional to their respective contributions to the light neutrino mass matrix. However, in our minimal type II seesaw model, this CP asymmetry is just given by the one-loop vertex correction involving the triplet Hi…
The Minimal Flavor Violation hypothesis (MFV) is extended to the R-parity violating MSSM, supplemented with a simple seesaw mechanism. The requirement of MFV is shown to suppress lepton and baryon-number violating couplings sufficiently to pass all experimental bounds, in particular those for proton decay, and is thus a viable alternative to R-parity. The phenomenological consequences for FCNC, LFV and colliders are briefly discussed. Typically, MFV predicts sizeable baryon-number violation in some characteristic channels, like single stop resonant production.
We present the various leptogenesis scenarios which may occur if, in addition to the ordinary heavy right-handed neutrinos, there exists a heavy scalar SU(2)_L triplet coupled to leptons. We show that the contributions of the right-handed neutrinos and the triplet to the lepton asymmetry are proportional to their respective contributions to the neutrino mass matrix. A consequence of the triplet contribution to the lepton asymmetry is that there is no more upper bound on the neutrino masses from leptogenesis due to the fact that the neutrino mass constraints do not necessarily induce asymmetry …
The seesaw enhancement of the bi-large mixings are discussed for the two-zero textures of the neutrino mass matrix. There are no large mixings in both Dirac neutrino mass matrix $m_D$ and right-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrix $M_R$, however, the bi-large mixing is realized via the seesaw mechanism. We present twelve sets of $m_D$ and $M_R$ for the seesaw enhancement and discuss the related phenomena, the $μ\to e+γ$ process and the leptogenesis. The decay rate of $μ\to e+γ$ is enough suppressed due to zeros in the Dirac neutrino mass matrix. Six $m_D$ lead to the lepton asymmetry, which ca…
A novel contribution to the leptonic CP asymmetries in type II seesaw leptogenesis scenarios is obtained for the cases in which flavor effects are relevant for the dynamics of leptogenesis. In the so-called flavoured leptogenesis regime, the interference between the tree-level amplitude of the scalar triplet decaying into two leptons and the one-loop wave-function correction with leptons in the loop, leads to a new nonvanishing CP asymmetry contribution. The latter conserves total lepton number but violates lepton flavour. Cases in which this novel contribution may be dominant in the generatio…
The baryon to photon ratio in the present Universe is very accurately measured to be $(6.065 \pm 0.090) \times 10^{-10}$. We study the possible origin of this baryon asymmetry in the neutrino sector through the generic mechanism of baryogenesis through leptogenesis. We consider both type I and type II seesaw origin of neutrino masses within the framework of left right symmetric models (LRSM). Using the latest best fit global neutrino oscillation data of mass squared differences, mixing angles and Dirac CP phase, we compute the predictions for baryon to photon ratio keeping the Majorana CP phas…
Discrete symmetries being preferred to explain the neutrino phenomenology, we chose the simplest $S_3$ group and explore the implication of its modular form on neutrino masses and mixing. Non-trivial transformations of Yukawa couplings under this symmetry, make the model phenomenologically interesting by reducing the requirement of multiple scalar fields. This symmetry imposes a specific flavor structure to the neutrino mass matrix within the framework of less frequented type III seesaw mechanism and helps to explore the neutrino mixing consistent with the current observation. Apart, we also e…
We suppose that the baryon asymmetry is produced by thermal leptogenesis (with flavour effects), at temperatures $\sim 10^{9} - 10^{10}$ GeV, in the supersymmetric seesaw with universal and real soft terms. The parameter space is restricted by assuming that $l_α\to l_βγ$ processes will be seen in upcoming experiments. We study the sensitivity of the baryon asymmetry to the phases of the lepton mixing matrix, and find that leptogenesis can work for any value of the phases. We also estimate the contribution to the electric dipole moment of the electron, arising from the seesaw, and find that it …
A leptogenesis scenario in a supersymmetric standard model extended with introducing right-handed neutrinos is reconsidered. Lepton asymmetry is produced in the condensate of a right-handed sneutrino via the Affleck-Dine mechanism. The LH_u direction develops large value due to a negative effective mass induced by the right-handed sneutrino condensate through the Yukawa coupling of the right-handed neutrino, even if the minimum during the inflation is fixed at the origin. The lepton asymmetry is nonperturbatively transfered to the LH_u direction by this Yukawa coupling.
We extend the visible content of the standard model (SM) with a hidden sector composed of three right-handed singlet neutrinos and one singlet Higgs. These extra singlets are charged under a new U(1)_X gauge symmetry while the SM particles are not. Two heavy scalar doublets are introduced to play the role of the messengers between the visible and hidden sectors. The neutrinos naturally acquire tiny Dirac masses because the ratio of weak scale over the heavy messenger masses is highly suppressed. Furthermore, the heavy messengers simultaneously generate baryon asymmetry of the universe through …
We study $S_{4}$ flavor symmetric inverse seesaw model which has the possibility of simultaneously addressing neutrino phenomenology, dark matter (DM) and baryon asymmetry of the universe (BAU) through leptogenesis. The model is the extension of the standard model by the addition of two right handed neutrinos and three sterile fermions leading to a keV scale sterile neutrino dark matter and two pairs of quasi-Dirac states. The CP violating decay of the lightest quasi- Dirac pair present in the model generates lepton asymmetry which then converts to baryon asymmetry of the universe. Thus this m…
In this paper, we incorporate the modular $S^{}_4$ flavor symmetry into the supersymmetric version of the minimal type-I seesaw model, in which only two right-handed neutrino singlets are introduced to account for tiny Majorana neutrino masses, and explore its implications for the lepton mass spectra, flavor mixing and CP violation. The basic idea is to assign two right-handed neutrino singlets into the unique two-dimensional irreducible representation of the modular $S^{}_4$ symmetry group. Moreover, we show that the matter-antimatter asymmetry in our Universe can be successfully explained vi…
Recently it has been found that introducing a triplet Higgs to the standard model could provide a feasible leptogenesis to generate the baryon asymmetry of our universe, providing that the inflation is driven by the mixing state of the triplet Higgs and SM Higgs. In this work, we survey the viable parameter space satisfying the vacuum stability and perturbativity in this model. We find that the introduction of the triplet Higgs would also ameliorate the problem of the Higgs vacuum instability. We present two representative parameter regions where the origin of neutrino masses, baryon asymmetry…
In this paper, we investigate the implication of modular $Γ^{\prime}_5 \simeq A^{\prime}_5$ symmetry on neutrino oscillation phenomenology in the linear seesaw framework. In order to achieve the well defined mass structure for the light active neutrinos as dictated by the linear seesaw mechanism, we introduce six heavy fermion fields along with a pair of weightons to retain the holomorphic nature of the superpotential. The notable feature of modular symmetry is that, it reduces the usage of flavon fields significantly. In addition, the Yukawa couplings transform non-trivially under the flavor …
A successful baryogenesis theory requires a baryon-minus-lepton number violation if it works before the electroweak phase transition. The baryon-minus-lepton number violation could also exist in some proton decay modes. We propose a model to show that the cosmological baryon asymmetry and the proton decay could have a common origin. Specifically, we introduce an isotriplet and two isosinglet leptoquark scalars as well as two isotriplet Higgs scalars to the canonical seesaw model. The decays of the Higgs triplets can generate a desired baryon-minus-lepton asymmetry in the leptoquarks. After the…
We present a study of resonant leptogenesis in a radiative seesaw model. We consider the case where two quasi-degenerate right-handed neutrinos realize resonant leptogenesis, and the CP violation necessary to achieve leptogenesis occurs through the CP phases present in the neutrino mixing matrix. A numerical analysis is performed by taking the best-fit values from the current global data for three neutrino mixing angles and two mass-squared differences. We have shown how the predicted value of baryon asymmetry depends on the Dirac and Majorana CP phases. With the particular choice for the mass…
We present a comparison of the numerical prediction on baryon asymmetry of the Universe in different neutrino mass models. We start with a very brief review on the main formalism of baryogenesis via leptogenesis through decay of heavy right-handed Majorana neutrinos, and then calculate the baryon asymmetry of the universe for known six neutrino mass models viz., three quasi-degenerate, two inverted and one normal hierarchical models, which are derived from canonical seesaw formula. The corresponding mass matrices for the right-handed Majorana neutrino as well as the Dirac neutrino, which are f…
In the framework of seesaw models with only two heavy Majorana neutrinos, nonzero leptonic asymmetries can be radiatively generated when exact heavy neutrino mass degeneracy ($M_1=M_2=M$) is imposed at a scale $Λ_D > M$. For a specific case, we show that an acceptable value for the baryon asymmetry of the Universe can be obtained considering thermal leptogenesis.
We present a purely linear seesaw mechanism in a left-right symmetric framework and then realize a novel leptogenesis scenario for parametrizing the cosmic baryon asymmetty by the charged lepton masses and the light Majorana neutrino mass matrix up to an overall factor. Through the same Yukawa couplings, the lepton-number-conserving decays of the mirror charged leptons can generate three individual lepton asymmetries stored in the ordinary lepton flavors, while the lepton-number-violating processes for the Majorana neutrino mass generation can wash out part of these lepton asymmetries. The rem…
We consider an SU(3)'_c\times SU(2)'_L\times U(1)'_Y mirror sector where the field content and dimensionless couplings are a copy of the SU(3)_c\times SU(2)_L\times U(1)_Y ordinary sector. Our model also contains three gauge-singlet fermions with heavy Majorana masses and an [SU(2)_L\times SU(2)'_L]-bidoublet Higgs scalar with seesaw-suppressed vacuum expectation value. The mirror sterile neutrino masses will have a form of canonical seesaw while the ordinary active neutrino masses will have a form of double and linear seesaw. In this canonical and double-linear seesaw scenario, we can expect …
We point out that, in a class of SO(10) models with matter fields in 16 and 10 representations and type II realization of the seesaw mechanism, the light neutrino masses and the CP asymmetry needed for leptogenesis are controlled by one and the same set of couplings. The generated baryon asymmetry then directly depends on the low-energy neutrino parameters, with no unknown seesaw-scale flavour parameters involved; in particular, the necessary CP violation is provided by the CP-violating phases of the lepton mixing matrix. We compute the CP asymmetry in triplet decays for this scenario and show…
Successful leptogenesis within the simplest type I supersymmetric seesaw mechanism requires the lightest of the three right-handed neutrino supermultiplets to be heavier than $\sim10^9$ GeV. Thermal production of such (s)neutrinos requires very high reheating temperatures which result in an overproduction of gravitinos with catastrophic consequences for the evolution of the universe. In this letter, we let R-parity be violated through a $λ_i \hat{N}_i \hat{H}_u \hat{H}_d$ term in the superpotential, where $\hat{N}_i$ are right-handed neutrino supermultiplets. We show that in the presence of th…
The standard model left-handed neutrinos and several right-handed neutrinos can obtain a tiny Dirac mass matrix through their mixings with relatively heavy Dirac fermions. In this Dirac seesaw scenario, the mixings involving the left-handed neutrinos can be allowed much larger than those involving the right-handed neutrinos. This undemocratic parameter choice is attractive to phenomenology. We show that the small mixings between the heavy Dirac fermions and the right-handed neutrinos can have a common origin with the observed baryon asymmetry in the universe. We also connect the introduction o…
It is well known that a Weinberg dimension-5 operator for small neutrino masses can be realized at tree level in three types of renormalizable models: (i) the type-I seesaw mediated by fermion singlets, (ii) the type-II seesaw mediated by Higgs triplets, (iii) the type-III seesaw mediated by fermion triplets. We here point out such operator can be also induced at tree level by vector-like lepton doublets in association with unusual fermion singlets, Higgs triplets or fermion triplets. If these unusual fermion singlets, Higgs triplets or fermion triplets are heavy enough, their decays can gener…
We study leptogenesis in two seesaw models where maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing and $U_{e3} = 0$ result from symmetries. Salient features of those models are the existence of three Higgs doublets and a twofold degeneracy of the neutrino Dirac mass matrix. We find that in those models both leptogenesis and neutrinoless double beta decay depend on the same unique Majorana phase. Leptogenesis can produce a baryon asymmetry of the universe of the right size provided the mass of the heavy neutrino whose decays generate the lepton asymmetry is in the range $10^{11}$--$10^{12} \mathrm{GeV}$. Mor…
We discuss the minimal seesaw model for the Dirac CP violating phase of the lepton mixing matrix. We introduce two right-handed Majorana neutrinos and obtain several textures of the tri-maximal lepton mixing matrices. Moreover, we discuss the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe through the leptogenesis mechanism. As the result, we obtain the specific model which predicts the negative sign of maximal Dirac CP violating phase and normal hierarchy of neutrino masses.
Successful leptogenesis within the conventional TeV-scale left-right implementation of type-I seesaw has been shown to require that the mass of the right-handed $W_R^\pm$ boson should have a lower bound much above the reach of the Large Hadron Collider. This bound arises from the necessity to suppress the washout of lepton asymmetry due to $W_R^\pm$-mediated $ΔL\neq 0$ processes. We show that in an alternative quark seesaw realization of left-right symmetry, the above bound can be avoided. Lepton asymmetry in this model is generated not via the usual right-handed neutrino decay but rather via …
In the type-II seesaw mechanism, the neutrino mass generation could be tested experimentally if the Higgs triplet is at the TeV scale and has a small cubic coupling to the standard model Higgs doublet. We show such small triplet-doublet coupling and the cosmic baryon asymmetry can be simultaneously induced by an additional seesaw mechanism involving a $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry. Meanwhile, three neutral fermions for cancelling the gauge anomalies can form a stable Dirac fermionic dark matter besides an acceptably massless fermion.
We compute the baryon asymmetry in the Universe in the framework of the standard model with the only source of CP violation in the CKM matrix. Our result is within and very close to the theoretical limits for baryon asymmetry found in the literature and too small to account for the experimentally required baryon asymmetry in standard cosmologies. The method can be easily extended to beyond standard model theories.
The type-I seesaw represents one of the most popular extensions of the Standard Model. Previous studies of this model have mostly focused on its ability to explain neutrino oscillations as well as on the generation of the baryon asymmetry via leptogenesis. Recently, it has been pointed out that the type-I seesaw can also account for the origin of the electroweak scale due to heavy-neutrino threshold corrections to the Higgs potential. In this paper, we show for the first time that all of these features of the type-I seesaw are compatible with each other. Integrating out a set of heavy Majorana…
