The thermodynamic and transport properties of intermetallic compounds with Ce, Eu, and Yb ions are discussed using the periodic Anderson model with an infinite correlation between $f$ electrons. The slave boson solution of the periodic model shows that the Fermi liquid scale T$_0$ and the Kondo scale T$_K$ depend on the shape of the conduction electrons density of states ($c$ DOS) in the vicinity of the chemical potential, that the details of the band structure determine the ratio T$_0$/T$_K$, and that the crossover between the high- and low-temperature regimes in ordered compounds is system-dependent.
A sharp peak in the $c$ DOS yields T$_0 \ll$T$_K$ and explains the 'slow crossover' observed in YbAl$_3$ or YbMgCu$_4$. A minimum in the $c$ DOS yields T$_0 \gg$T$_K$, which leads to the abrupt transition between the high- and low-temperature regimes in YbInCu$_4$. In the case of CeCu$_2$Ge$_2$ and CeCu$_2$Si$_2$, where T$_0 \simeq T_K$, the slave boson solution explains the pressure experiments which reveal sharp peaks in the T$^2$ coefficient of the electrical resistance, $A=ρ(T)/T^2$, and the residual resistance. These peaks are due to the change in the degeneracy of the $f$ states induced by the applied pressure.
We show that the low-temperature response of the periodic Anderson model can be enhanced (or reduced) with respect to the predictions based on the single-impurity models that give the same high-temperature behavior.
We show that a generic single-orbital Anderson impurity model, lacking for instance any kind of particle-hole symmetry, can be exactly mapped without any constraint onto a resonant level model coupled to two Ising variables, which reduce to one if the hybridisation is particle-hole symmetric. The mean-field solution of this model is found to be stable to unphysical spontaneous magnetisation of the impurity, unlike the saddle-point solution in the standard slave-boson representation. Remarkably, the mean-field estimate of the Wilson ratio approaches the exact value $R_\text{W}=2$ in the Kondo r…
We find the dynamical exponent $z = 3$ antiferromagnetic (AF) quantum critical point (QCP) in the heavy fermion quantum transition beyond the standard framework of the Hertz-Moriya-Millis theory with $z = 2$. Based on the U(1) slave-fermion representation of the Anderson lattice model, we show the continuous transition from an antiferromagnetic metal to a heavy fermion Fermi liquid, where the heavy fermion phase consists of two fluids, differentiated from the slave-boson theory. Thermodynamics and transport of the $z = 3$ AF QCP are shown to be consistent with the well known non-Fermi liquid p…
The Barnes slave boson approach to the $U=\infty$ single impurity Anderson model extended by a non-local Coulomb interaction is revisited. We demonstrate first that the radial gauge representation facilitates the treatment of such a non-local interaction by performing the \emph{exact} evaluation of the path integrals representing the partition function, the impurity hole density and the impurity hole density autocorrelation function for a two-site cluster. The free energy is also obtained on the same footing. Next, the exact results are compared to their approximations at saddle-point level, a…
The infinite-$U$ Anderson-Holstein impurity model is studied with a focus on the interplay between the strong electron correlation and the weak electron-phonon interaction. The slave boson method has been employed in combination with the large degeneracy expansion (1/N) technique. The charge and spin susceptibilities and the phonon propagator are obtained in the approximation scheme where the saddle point configuration and the Gaussian 1/N fluctuations are taken into account. The spin susceptibility is found not to be renormalized by electron-phonon interaction, while the charge susceptibility…
In this Letter we study the periodic Anderson model, employing both the slave-boson and the X-boson approaches in the mean field approximation. We investigate the breakdown of the slave-boson at intermediate temperatures when the total occupation number of particles Nt = Nf + Nc is keep constant, where Nf and Nc are respectively the occupation numbers of the localized and conduction electrons, and we show that the high-temperature limit of the slave-boson is Nf = Nc = Nt /2. We also compare the results of the two approaches in the Kondo limit and we show that at low-temperatures the X-boson ex…
We present functional Schrödinger representations of Holstein-Primakoff boson and slave-boson theories for the Heisenberg Hamiltonian and the $t-J$ Hamiltonian respectively. Based on these representations we obtain the dispersion relations of magnons for two dimensional antiferromagnets. By applying the functional Schrödinger representation of the Holstein-Primakoff boson theory to the Heisenberg Hamiltonian, the exchange energy is correctly predicted and the self-energy of quasi-hole is obtained. From the use of the functional Schrödinger representation of the $t-J$ Hamiltonian it is shown th…
We demonstrate that a recently introduced slave-boson mean-field theory is equivalent to our Gutzwiller theory for multi-band Hubbard models with general onsite interactions. We relate the different objects that appear in both approaches at zero temperature and discuss the limitations of both methods.
Motivated by recent experimental measurements of the tunneling characteristics of high T_{c} materials using scanning tunneling spectroscopy, we have calculated the IV and differential conductance curves in the superconducting state at zero temperature. Comparing the two results obtained via BCS-like d-wave pairing and the SU(2) slave boson approach, we find that the slave-boson model can explain the asymmetric background observed in experiments. The slave-boson model also predicts that the height of the conductance peak relative to the background is proportional to the hole doping concentrati…
We introduce a new slave-boson mean-field theory which allows the investigation of general multi-band Hubbard models. Unlike earlier attempts of such a generalisation, in our approach the quantum-mechanical problem is exactly reformulated in an extended Hilbert space of Fermions and Bosons before a mean-field approximation is applied. Systems with superconducting order parameters are naturally included in our formalism. Our ground-state energy functional agrees with the corresponding quantity derived within the Gutzwiller theory.
We introduce a set of generalized slave-particle models for extended Hubbard models that treat localized electronic correlations using slave-boson decompositions. Our models automatically include two slave-particle methods of recent interest, the slave-rotor and slave-spin methods, as well as a ladder of new intermediate models where one can choose which of the electronic degrees of freedom (e.g., spin or orbital labels) are treated as correlated degrees of freedom by the slave bosons. In addition, our method removes the aberrant behavior of the slave-rotor model at weak correlation strength b…
The Periodic Anderson Model (PAM) can be studied in the infinite U limit by employing the Hubbard X operators to project out the unwanted states. We have already studied this problem employing the cumulant expansion with the hybridization as perturbation, but the probability conservation of the local states (completeness) is not usually satisfied when partial expansions like the Chain Approximation (CHA) are employed. Here we treat the problem by a technique inspired in the mean field approximation of Coleman's slave-bosons method, and we obtain a description that avoids the unwanted phase tra…
Based on the Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave-boson scheme we develop a configuration-interaction (CI) approach which is suitable to improve the energy of symmetry-broken saddle-point solutions. The theory is applied to spin-polaron states in the Hubbard model and compared with analogous results obtained within the Hartree-Fock approximation. In addition we show that within the infinite ${\cal D}$ prescription of the Gutzwiller method a CI approach does not improve the variational result since in the thermodynamic limit matrix elements between different inhomogeneous states vanish due to an 'orthogon…
We present a unified perspective on Dynamical Mean Field Theory (DMFT), Density-Matrix Embedding Theory (DMET) and Rotationally Invariant Slave Bosons (RISB). We show that DMET can be regarded as a simplification of the RISB method where the quasiparticle weight is set to unity. This relation allows to easily transpose extensions of a given method to another: for instance, a temperature-dependent version of RISB can be used to derive a temperature-dependent free-energy formula for DMET.
We perform a comparative study of the finite temperature behavior of ultracold Bose atoms in optical lattices by the slave fermion and the slave boson approaches to the Bose Hubbard model. The phase diagram of the system is presented. Although both approaches are equivalent without approximations, the mean field theory based on the slave fermion technique is quantitatively more appropriate. Conceptually, the slave fermion approach automatically excludes the double occupancy of two identical fermions on the same lattice site. By comparing to known results in limiting cases, we find the slave fe…
In the present paper, we systematically studied the possible Orbital selective Mott transition (OSMT) in the $t_{2g}$ system, which has three orbital degeneracy. The slave Boson mean field theory is generalized to the three band systems with full Hund's rule coupling including spin flip and pair hopping terms. A new type of Mott transition which is driven by the crystal field splitting or the lattice distortion is found is this model. We argue that this new type of Mott transition may relate to the puzzling phase in $Sr_{x}Ca_{2-x}RuO_4$.
We propose an operatorially-exact formalism for describing the equilibrium and quantum-dynamical properties of many-electron systems interacting locally on a lattice, called "ghost rotationally-invariant slave-Boson theory" (g-RISB). We demonstrate that our theoretical framework reduces to the recently-developed ghost Gutzwiller approximation (g-GA) at the mean-field level. Furthermore, we introduce the time-dependent mean-field g-RISB action, generalizing the time-dependent GA theory. Since the g-RISB is based on exact reformulation of the many-body problem, it may pave the way to the develop…
We introduce a new path integral representation for slave bosons in the radial gauge which is valid beyond the conventional fluctuation corrections to a mean-field solution. For electronic lattice models, defined on the constrained Fock space with no double occupancy, all phase fluctuations of the slave particles can be gauged away if the Lagrange multipliers which enforce the constraint on each lattice site are promoted to time-dependent fields. Consequently, only the amplitude (radial part) of the slave boson fields survives. It has the special property that it is equal to its square in the …
We present a simple modification of the standard U(1) slave boson construction for the single band t-J model which accounts for two-particle bound states of spinons and holons. This construction naturally gives rise to fractionalized Fermi liquid ground states, featuring small, hole-like pocket Fermi surfaces with an anisotropic quasiparticle weight in the absence of broken symmetries. In a specific parameter regime our approach maps the square lattice t-J model to a generalized quantum dimer model, which was introduced as a toy model for the metallic pseudogap phase in hole-doped cuprates in …
We use two different methods, the Hirsch-Fye quantum Monte Carlo simulation and the slave-boson mean field analysis to estimate the effect of spin-orbit coupling on the Kondo temperature in a quantum wire. In quantum Monte Carlo simulation, we calculate the product of spin susceptibility and temperature for different spin-orbit couplings and impurity energies. The variation of the Kondo temperature is estimated via the low temperature universal curves. In the mean field analysis, the Kondo temperature is estimated as the condensation temperature of slave-boson. Both the two methods demonstrate…
The mean-field theory with the use of the slave-boson functional method is generalized to take account of the spin- and orbital-ordered state in the doubly degenerate Hubbard model. Some numerical calculations are presented of the antiferromagnetic orbital-ordered state in the half-filled simple-cubic model. The orbital order in the present theory is much reduced compared with that in the Hartree-Fock approximation because of the large orbital fluctuations. From a comparison of the ground-state energy, the antiferromagnetic orbital state is shown to be unstable against the antiferromagnetic sp…
We present detailed benchmark ground-state calculations of the one- and two-dimensional Hubbard model utilizing the cluster extensions of the rotationally invariant slave-boson (RISB) mean-field theory and the density matrix embedding theory (DMET). Our analysis shows that the overall accuracy and the performance of these two methods are very similar. Furthermore, we propose a unified computational framework that allows us to implement both of these techniques on the same footing. This provides us with a new line of interpretation and paves the ways for developing systematically new generaliza…
The question of Fermi liquid vs. non-Fermi liquid behavior induced by strong correlations is one of the prominent problems in metallic local moment systems. As standard models for such systems, the SU(N)xSU(M) Anderson impurity models exhibit both Fermi liquid and non-Fermi liquid behavior, depending on their symmetry. Taking the Anderson model as an example, these lectures first give an introduction to the auxiliary boson method to describe correlated systems governed by a strong, short-range electronic repulsion. It is then shown how to include the relevant low-lying excitations (coherent sp…
Radial slave boson representations have the particular advantage that the expectation values of their respective fields are finite even without the formal introduction of spurious Bose condensates for each of the bosonic fields. The expectation values of the radial (real) fields are in fact to be interpreted as the density of empty or singly occupied sites. Whereas the radial representation of the Barnes slave bosons has been investigated before, a setup for the functional integral of radial bosonic fields in the more physical Kotliar-Ruckenstein representation has not been accomplished to dat…
We derive an exact operatorial reformulation of the rotational invariant slave boson method and we apply it to describe the orbital differentiation in strongly correlated electron systems starting from first principles. The approach enables us to treat strong electron correlations, spin-orbit coupling and crystal field splittings on the same footing by exploiting the gauge invariance of the mean-field equations. We apply our theory to the archetypical nuclear fuel UO$_2$, and show that the ground state of this system displays a pronounced orbital differention within the $5f$ manifold, with Mot…
Using a slave boson representation of multi-band Hubbard models, we investigate a two-band model relevant to layered perovskites in the vicinity of half-filling. Beside the strong influence of the Hund's rule coupling, we obtain that the phase diagram separates into two regions: a weak to moderate coupling region where the effective mass is weakly renormalized, and a strong coupling regime where it is strongly renormalized. The transition between these two regimes is very sharp. It takes place in a (vanishingly) small domain. A ferromagnetic instability in only found in the strongly correlated…
The standard mean field slave-boson solution for the infinite-$U$ Hubbard model is revised. A slightly modified version is proposed which includes properly the incoherent contribution of the localized states. In contrast to the standard mean field result, this new proposed solution defines a unique spectral function to be used in the calculation of local and not local quantities, and satisfies the correct thermodynamic relations. The same approach is applied also to the mean field approximation in terms of Hubbard operators. As a byproduct of this analysis, Luttinger's theorem is shown to be f…
It has been recently shown by Nakatsuji, Pines, and Fisk [S. Nakatsuji, D. Pines, and Z. Fisk, Phys. Rev. Lett. 92, 016401 (2004)] from the phenomenological analysis of experiments in Ce1-xLaxCoIn5 and CeIrIn5 that thermodynamic and transport properties of Kondo lattices below coherence temperature can be very successfully described in terms of a two-fluid model, with Kondo impurity and heavy electron Fermi liquid contributions. We analyze thermodynamic properties of Kondo lattices using 1/N slave boson treatment of the periodic Anderson model and show that these two contributions indeed arise…
A slave-boson functional-integral method has been developed for the Hubbard model with arbitrary, orbital degeneracy $D$. Its saddle-point mean-field theory is equivalent to the Gutzwiller approximation, as in the case of single-band Hubbard model. Our theory is applied to the doubly degenerate ($D = 2$) model, and numerical calculations have been performed for this model in the paramagnetic states. The effect of the exchange interaction on the metal-insulator (MI) transition is discussed. The critical interaction for the MI transition is analytically calculated as functions of orbital degener…
We establish a correspondence between the resummation of world lines and the diagonalization of the Hamiltonian for a strongly correlated electronic system. For this purpose, we analyze the functional integrals for the partition function and the correlation functions invoking a slave boson representation in the radial gauge. We show in the spinless case that the Green's function of the physical electron and the projected Green's function of the pseudofermion coincide. Correlation and Green's functions in the spinful case involve a complex entanglement of the world lines which, however, can be …
Based on the SO(2)-invariant slave-boson scheme, the static charge, orbital, and excitonic susceptibilities in the extended Falicov-Kimball model are calculated. Analyzing the phase without long-range order we find instabilities towards charge order, orbital order, and the excitonic insulator (EI) phase. The instability towards the EI is in agreement with the saddle-point phase diagram. We also evaluate the dynamic excitonic susceptibility, which allows the investigation of uncondensed excitons. We find qualitatively different features of the exciton dispersion at the semimetal-EI and at the s…
We generalize the rotationally-invariant formulation of the slave-boson formalism to multiorbital models, with arbitrary interactions, crystal fields, and multiplet structure. This allows for the study of multiplet effects on the nature of low-energy quasiparticles. Non-diagonal components of the matrix of quasiparticle weights can be calculated within this framework. When combined with cluster extensions of dynamical mean-field theory, this method allows us to address the effects of spatial correlations, such as the generation of the superexchange and the momentum dependence of the quasiparti…
We revisit the Kotliar-Ruckenstein (KR) slave boson saddle point evaluation for a two-site correlated electron model. As the model can be solved analytically, it is possible to compare the KR saddle point results to the exact many particle levels. The considered two site cluster mimics an infinite-$U$ single-impurity Anderson model with a nearest neighbor Coulomb interaction: one site is strongly correlated with an infinite local Coulomb repulsion which hybridizes with the second site, on which the local Coulomb repulsion vanishes. Making use of the flexibility of the representation we introdu…
We show that the presence of Fermi or non-Fermi liquid behavior in the SU(N) x SU(M) Anderson impurity models may be read off the infrared threshold exponents governing the spinon and holon dynamics in a slave boson representation of these models. We construct a conserving T-matrix approximation which recovers the exact exponents with good numerical accuracy. Our approximation includes both coherent spin flip scattering and charge fluctuation processes. For the single-channel case the tendency to form bound states drastically modifies the low energy behavior. For the multi-channel case in the …
We re-examine the three-dimensional spinless Falicov-Kimball model with dispersive $f$ electrons at half-filling, addressing the dispute about the formation of an excitonic condensate, which is closely related to the problem of electronic ferroelectricity. To this end, we work out a slave-boson functional integral representation of the suchlike extended Falicov-Kimball model that preserves the $SO(2)\otimes U(1)^{\otimes 2}$ invariance of the action. We find a spontaneous pairing of $c$ electrons with $f$ holes, building an excitonic insulator state at low temperatures, also for the case of in…
Motivated by the anomalous temperature dependence of the c-axis resistivity of Sr$_2$RuO$_4$, the dimensional crossover from a network of perpendicular one-dimensional chains to a two-dimensional system due to a weak hybridization between the perpendicular chains is studied. The corresponding two-orbital Hubbard model is treated within a slave-boson mean-field theory (SBMFT) to take correlation effects into account such as the spin-charge separation on the one-dimensional chains. Using an RPA-like formulation for the Green's function of collective spinon-holon excitations the emergence of quas…
We investigate the paramagnetic-metal-to-antiferromagnetic-metal and antiferromagnetic-metal-to- antiferromagnetic-insulator transitions using a slave-boson mean-field theory. To this effect, we discuss the ground state of the half-filled Hubbard model as a function of t'/t and correlation strength U, where t and t' are the hopping amplitudes between nearest and next-nearest neighbors, respectively. The metal-insulator transition at a critical U_{MIT} is of second order for small levels of magnetic frustration, t'/t<0.06, and of first order for large ones, t'/t>0.06. The insulator is always an…
We apply the slave-boson approach of Kotliar and Ruckenstein to the two-band Hubbard model with an Ising like Hund's rule coupling and bands of different widths. On the mean-field level of this approach we investigate the Mott transition and observe both separate and joint transitions of the two bands depending on the choice of the inter- and intraorbital Coulomb interaction parameters. The mean-field calculations allow for a simple physical interpretation and can confirm several aspects of previous work. Beside the case of two individually half-filled bands we also examine what happens if the…
The extended Falicov-Kimball model, with both an on-site hybridization potential and dispersive narrow band, is examined within the saddle-point approximation to the Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave boson theory. We first set the hybridization potential to zero and find that the phase diagram depends strongly upon the orbital structure: for degenerate orbitals, a correlated-insulating state is found at sufficiently strong interaction strengths, whereas a finite orbital energy difference can lead to discontinuous valence transitions. The obtained phase diagram is very sensitive to the presence of a fi…
We investigated electron phases in the $f^2$-configuration system with the $Γ_1$ crystalline-electric-field (CEF) ground state in cubic symmetry. An extended three-orbital periodic Anderson model, which consists of $j=5/2$ states, is evaluated by using the rotationally invariant slave boson formalism. As a result, we found three phases at zero temperature: the $Γ_1$ CEF singlet phase, and two kinds of Fermi liquid (FL). One of the FL arises owing to the presence of the $Γ_5$ CEF state, while the other forms a quasi-degenerated CEF state. All these phases are separated by first-order transition…
Metal-insulator transitions in a three-component Falicov-Kimball model are investigated within the Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave boson mean-field approach. The model describes a mixture of two interacting fermion atom species loaded into an optical lattice at ultralow temperature. One species is two-component atoms, which can hop in the optical lattice, and the other is single-component atoms, which are localized. Different correlation-driven metal-insulator transitions are observed depending on the atom filling conditions and local interactions. These metal-insulator transitions are classified by…
We study the low energy properties of the one-orbital quantum double-exchange model by using the slave fermion formulation. We construct a mean-field theory which gives a simple explanation for the magnetic and thermodynamic properties of the ferromagnetic metallic phase in manganites at low energy. The resulting electron spectral function and tunneling density of states show an incoherent asymmetric peak with weak temperature dependence, in addition to a quasiparticle peak. We also show that the gauge fluctuations in the ferromagnetic metallic phase are completely screened due to the Anderson…
We use the Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave-boson formalism to study the temperature dependence of paramagnetic phases of the one-band Hubbard model for a variety of band structures. We calculate the Fermi liquid quasiparticle spectral weight $Z$ and identify the temperature at which it decreases significantly to a crossover to a bad metal region. Near the Mott metal-insulator transition, this coherence temperature $T_\textrm{coh}$ is much lower than the Fermi temperature of the uncorrelated Fermi gas, as is observed in a broad range of strongly correlated electron materials. After a proper rescaling…
The Periodic Anderson Model (PAM) in the $U\to\infty$ limit has been studied in a previous work employing the cumulant expansion with the hybridization as perturbation (M. S. Figueira, M. E. Foglio and G. G. Martinez, Phys. Rev. B \textbf{50}, 17933 (1994)). When the total number of electrons $N_{t}$ is calculated as a function of the chemical potential $μ$ in the ``Chain Approximation'' (CHA), there are three values of the chemical potential $μ$ for each $N_{t}$ in a small interval of $N_{t}$ at low $T$ (M. S Figueira, M. E Foglio, Physica A 208 (1994)). We have recently introduced the ``X-bo…

Using a rotationally invariant version of the slave-boson approach in spin space we analyze the stability of stripe phases with large unit cells in the two-dimensional Hubbard model. This approach allows one to treat strong electron correlations in the stripe phases relevant in the low doping regime, and gives results representative of the thermodynamic limit. Thereby we resolve the longstanding controversy concerning the role played by the kinetic energy in stripe phases. While the transverse hopping across the domain walls yields the largest kinetic energy gain in the case of the insulating …
The ground-state magnetic phase diagram is investigated within the single-band Hubbard model for square and different cubic lattices. The results of employing the generalized non-correlated mean-field (Hartree-Fock) approximation and generalized slave-boson approach by Kotliar and Ruckenstein with correlation effects included are compared. We take into account commensurate ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic, and incommensurate (spiral) magnetic phases, as well as phase separation into magnetic phases of different types, which was often lacking in previous investigations. It is found that the spi…
The combination of the local-density approximation (LDA) with the rotationally invariant slave-boson theory (RISB) is used to investigate the realistic correlated electronic structure of Sr$_3$Ru$_2$O$_7$. From Wannier-downfolding the low-energy band structure to a three-band model for the Ru($t_{2g}$) states, the interacting problem is solved including intra- and inter-orbital Hubbard terms as well as spin-flip and pair-hopping interactions. Therewith it is possible to obtain valuable insight into the orbital occupations, relevant local spin multiplets and the fermiology with increasing corre…
We study the stability of the spin gap phase in the U(1) slave-boson theory of the t-J model in connection to the underdoped cuprates. We approach the spin gap phase from the superconducting state and consider the quantum phase transition of the slave-bosons at zero temperature by introducing vortices in the boson superfluid. At finite temperatures, the properties of the bosons are different from those of the strange metal phase and lead to modified gauge field fluctuations. As a result, the spin gap phase can be stabilized in the quantum critical and quantum disordered regime of the boson sys…
We present a comprehensive study of the 2D one-band Hubbard model applying the spin rotation invariant slave-boson method. We utilize a spiral magnetic mean field and fluctuations around a paramagnetic mean field to determine the magnetic phase diagram and find the two approaches to be in good agreement. Apart from the commensurate phases characterized by ordering wave vectors $\boldsymbol Q = (π, π), (0, π)$, and $(0, 0)$ we find incommensurate phases where the ordering wave vectors $\boldsymbol Q = (Q, Q)$, and $(Q, π)$ vary continuously with filling, interaction strength or temperature. The…
In the context of the U(1) slave boson theory we derive a critical field theory near the quantum critical point of the Kondo lattice model in two spatial dimensions. First we argue that strong gauge fluctuations in the U(1) slave boson theory give rise to confinement between spinons and holons, thus causing "neutralized" spinons in association with the slave boson U(1) gauge field. Second we show that critical fluctuations of Kondo singlets near the quantum critical point result in a new U(1) gauge field. This emergent gauge field has nothing to do with the slave boson U(1) gauge field. Third …
The antiferromagnetic ground state of the half-filled Hubbard model with the doubly degenerate orbital has been studied by using the slave-boson mean-field theory which was previously proposed by the present author. Numerical calculations for the simple cubic model have shown that the metal-insulator transition does not take place except at the vanishing interaction point, in strong contrast with its paramagnetic solution. The energy gap in the density of states of the antiferromagnetic insulator is much reduced by the effect of electron correlation. The exchange interaction $J$ plays an impor…
The question of Fermi liquid vs. non-Fermi liquid behavior induced by strong correlations is one of the prominent problems in metallic local moment systems. As standard models for such systems, the SU(N) x SU(M) Anderson impurity models exhibit both Fermi liquid and non-Fermi liquid behavior, depending on their symmetry. Using an auxiliary boson method, we present a generally applicable scheme to select the relevant contributions in the low frequency regime, while preserving the local gauge symmetry of the model. It amounts to a conserving T-matrix approximation (CTMA) including coherent spin …
We present a quantitative study of the charge-spin separation(CSS) phenomenon in a U(1) gauge theory of the t-J model of high-Tc superconductures. We calculate the critical temperature of confinement-deconfinement phase transition below which the CSS takes place.
Based on an improved SU(2) slave-boson approach to the t-J Hamiltonian, we derive a phase diagram of high $T_c$ cuprates which displays both the superconducting and pseudogap phases in the plane of temperature vs. hole doping rate. It is shown that the inclusion of phase fluctuations in the order parameters results in a closer agreement with the observed superconducting temperature(bose condensation line) of an arch shape as a function of hole doping rate.
A rational representation for the self-energy is explored to interpolate the solution of the Anderson impurity model in general orbitally degenerate case. Several constrains such as the Friedel's sum rule, high--frequency moments and the value of quasiparticle residue are used to establish the equations for the coefficients of the interpolation. We test two fast techniques, the slave--boson mean--field and the Hubbard I approximation to determine the coefficients. The obtained self--energies are compared with the results of numerically exact Quantum Monte Carlo method. We find that using the s…
