Super-ASTROD (Super Astrodynamical Space Test of Relativity using Optical Devices or ASTROD III) is a mission concept with 3-5 spacecraft in 5 AU orbits together with an Earth-Sun L1/L2 spacecraft ranging optically with one another to probe primordial gravitational-waves with frequencies 0.1 microHz - 1 mHz, to test fundamental laws of spacetime and to map the outer solar system. The Low Frequency Sensitivity to Gravitational Waves for ASTROD

ASTROD is a relativity mission concept encompassing multi-purposes. One of its main purposes is to detect gravitational waves sensitive to low-frequency band similar to LISA, but shifted to lower frequencies. Probing the Primordial Power Spectrum with Cluster Number Counts

We investigate how well galaxy cluster number counts can constrain the primordial power spectrum. Measurements of the primary anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) may be limited, by the presence of foregrounds from secondary sources, to probing the primordial power spectrum at wave numbers less than about 0.30 h Mpc^{-1}. Probing Planckian physics: resonant production of particles during inflation and features in the primordial power spectrum

The phenomenon of resonant production of particles {\it after} inflation has received much attention in the past few years. In a new application of resonant production of particles, we consider the effect of a resonance {\em during} inflation. Primordial magnetic fields possibly generated in the very early universe are one of the candidates for the origin of magnetic fields observed in many galaxies and galaxy clusters. Probing the primordial power spectrum with the VSA (and other CMB experiments)

We present estimates of parameters which model the primordial density fluctuations using CMB data from the VSA, 1st year WMAP, CBI and ACBAR along with external priors from 2dF and the HST. Taken at face value there is significant evidence for a running spectral index when only scalar fluctuations are considered. Probing the Reheating Temperature at Colliders and with Primordial Nucleosynthesis

Considering gravitino dark matter scenarios with a long-lived charged slepton, we show that collider measurements of the slepton mass and its lifetime can probe not only the gravitino mass but also the post-inflationary reheating temperature TR. In a model independent way, we derive upper limits on TR and discuss them in light of the constraints from the primordial catalysis of lithium-6 through bound-state effects. Primordial Nucleosynthesis with CMB Inputs: Probing the Early Universe and Light Element Astrophysics

Cosmic microwave background (CMB) determinations of the baryon-to-photon ratio $η\propto Ω_{\rm baryon} h^2$ will remove the last free parameter from (standard) big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) calculations. The pre-Galactic abundance of lithium offers a unique window into non-thermal cosmological processes. Probing Primordial Non-Gaussianity with Large-Scale Structure

We consider primordial non-Gaussianity due to quadratic corrections in the gravitational potential parametrized by a non-linear coupling parameter fnl. We study constraints on fnl from measurements of the galaxy bispectrum in redshift surveys. Using estimates for idealized survey geometries of the 2dF and SDSS surveys and realistic ones from SDSS mock catalogs, we show that it is possible to probe |fnl|~100, after marginalization over bias parameters. Probing polarization states of primordial gravitational waves with CMB anisotropies

We discuss the polarization signature of primordial gravitational waves imprinted in cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies. The high-energy physics motivated by superstring theory or M-theory generically yield parity violating terms, which may produce a circularly polarized gravitational wave background (GWB) during inflation. In contrast to the standard prediction of inflation with un-polarized GWB, circularly polarized GWB generates non-vanishing TB and EB-mode power spectra of CMB anisotropies. Probing the power spectrum bend with recent CMB data

We constrain the primordial fluctuation spectrum P(k) by using the new data on the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) from the Boomerang and MAXIMA experiments. Our study is based on slow-roll inflationary models, and we consider the possibility of a running spectral index. Specifically, we expand the power spectrum P(k) to second order in ln(k), thus allowing the power spectrum to ``bend'' in k-space. High-order 2MASS galaxy correlation functions: Probing the primordial density field and the linearity of galaxy bias

We use the 2MASS extended source catalogue to determine angular correlation functions, w_p, to high orders (p<=9). The main sample contains 650,745 galaxies and represents an order of magnitude increase in solid angle over previous samples used in such analysis. The high-order correlation functions are used to determine the projected and real space hierarchical amplitudes, s_p and S_p. Probing the mass function of halo dark matter via microlensing

The simplest interpretation of the microlensing events observed towards the Large Magellanic Clouds is that approximately half of the mass of the Milky Way halo is in the form of MAssive Compact Halo Objects with $M \sim 0.5 M_{\odot}$. It is not possible, due to limits from star counts and chemical abundance arguments, for faint stars or white dwarves to comprise such a large fraction of the halo mass. In this talk presented at the 5th Rencontres du Vietnam 2004, we discuss our preliminary investigations into voids of primordial origin. CMBPol Mission Concept Study: Probing Inflation with CMB Polarization

We summarize the utility of precise cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization measurements as probes of the physics of inflation. We focus on the prospects for using CMB measurements to differentiate various inflationary mechanisms. In particular, a detection of primordial B-mode polarization would demonstrate that inflation occurred at a very high energy scale, and that the inflaton traversed a super-Planckian distance in field space.
