Enormous successes have been made by quantum algorithms during the last decade. In this paper, we combine the quantum game with the problem of data clustering, and then develop a quantum-game-based clustering algorithm, in which data points in a dataset are considered as players who can make decisions and implement quantum strategies in quantum games. After each round of a quantum game, each player's expected payoff is calculated. Later, he uses a link-removing-and-rewiring (LRR) function to change his neighbors and adjust the strength of links connecting to them in order to maximize his payoff. Further, algorithms are discussed and analyzed in two cases of strategies, two payoff matrixes and two LRR functions. Consequently, the simulation results have demonstrated that data points in datasets are clustered reasonably and efficiently, and the clustering algorithms have fast rates of convergence. Moreover, the comparison with other algorithms also provides an indication of the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Data mining and knowledge discovery are two important growing research fields in the last two decades due to the abundance of data collected from various sources. The exponentially growing volumes of generated data urge the development of several mining techniques to feed the needs for automatically derived knowledge. Clustering analysis (finding similar groups of data) is a well-established and widely used approach in data mining and knowledge discovery. In this paper, we introduce a clustering technique that uses game theory models to tackle multi-objective application problems. The main ide…
The classification of time series data is a challenge common to all data-driven fields. However, there is no agreement about which are the most efficient techniques to group unlabeled time-ordered data. This is because a successful classification of time series patterns depends on the goal and the domain of interest, i.e. it is application-dependent. In this article, we study free-to-play game data. In this domain, clustering similar time series information is increasingly important due to the large amount of data collected by current mobile and web applications. We evaluate which methods clus…
Among the various market structures under peer-to-peer energy sharing, one model based on cooperative game theory provides clear incentives for prosumers to collaboratively schedule their energy resources. The computational complexity of this model, however, increases exponentially with the number of participants. To address this issue, this paper proposes the application of K-means clustering to the energy profiles following the grand coalition optimization. The cooperative model is run with the "clustered players" to compute their payoff allocations, which are then further distributed among …
Variational autoencoders (VAEs) have been shown to be able to generate game levels but require manual exploration of the learned latent space to generate outputs with desired attributes. While conditional VAEs address this by allowing generation to be conditioned on labels, such labels have to be provided during training and thus require prior knowledge which may not always be available. In this paper, we apply Gaussian Mixture VAEs (GMVAEs), a variant of the VAE which imposes a mixture of Gaussians (GM) on the latent space, unlike regular VAEs which impose a unimodal Gaussian. This allows GMV…

We present a new approach for identifying situations and behaviours, which we call "moves", from soccer games in the 2D simulation league. Being able to identify key situations and behaviours are useful capabilities for analysing soccer matches, anticipating opponent behaviours to aid selection of appropriate tactics, and also as a prerequisite for automatic learning of behaviours and policies. To support a wide set of strategies, our goal is to identify situations from data, in an unsupervised way without making use of pre-defined soccer specific concepts such as "pass" or "dribble". The recu…

DSLib is an open-source implementation of the Dominant Set (DS) clustering algorithm written entirely in Matlab. The DS method is a graph-based clustering technique rooted in the evolutionary game theory that starts gaining lots of interest in the computer science community. Thanks to its duality with game theory and its strict relation to the notion of maximal clique, has been explored in several directions not only related to clustering problems. Applications in graph matching, segmentation, classification and medical imaging are common in literature. This package provides an implementation …
There has been significant research interest in Procedural Level Generation via Machine Learning (PLGML), applying ML techniques to automated level generation. One recent trend is in the direction of learning representations for level design via embeddings, such as tile embeddings. Tile Embeddings are continuous vector representations of game levels unifying their visual, contextual and behavioural information. However, the original tile embedding struggled to generate levels with skewed tile distributions. For instance, Super Mario Bros. (SMB) wherein a majority of tiles represent the backgro…

The ability for an educational game designer to understand their audience's play styles and resulting experience is an essential tool for improving their game's design. As a game is subjected to large-scale player testing, the designers require inexpensive, automated methods for categorizing patterns of player-game interactions. In this paper we present a simple, reusable process using best practices for data clustering, feasible for use within a small educational game studio. We utilize the method to analyze a real-time strategy game, processing game telemetry data to determine categories of …

Fuzzy clustering is a famous unsupervised learning method used to collecting similar data elements within cluster according to some similarity measurement. But, clustering algorithms suffer from some drawbacks. Among the main weakness including, selecting the initial cluster centres and the appropriate clusters number is normally unknown. These weaknesses are considered the most challenging tasks in clustering algorithms. This paper introduces a comprehensive review of metahueristic search to solve fuzzy clustering algorithms problems.
Finite mixture models are an important tool in the statistical analysis of data, for example in data clustering. The optimal parameters of a mixture model are usually computed by maximizing the log-likelihood functional via the Expectation-Maximization algorithm. We propose an alternative approach based on the theory of Mean Field Games, a class of differential games with an infinite number of agents. We show that the solution of a finite state space multi-population Mean Field Games system characterizes the critical points of the log-likelihood functional for a Bernoulli mixture. The approach…

Biologically inspired computing techniques are very effective and useful in many areas of research including data clustering. Ant clustering algorithm is a nature-inspired clustering technique which is extensively studied for over two decades. In this study, we extend the ant clustering algorithm (ACA) to a hybrid ant clustering algorithm (hACA). Specifically, we include a genetic algorithm in standard ACA to extend the hybrid algorithm for better performance. We also introduced novel pick up and drop off rules to speed up the clustering performance. We study the performance of the hACA algori…
This paper presents a theoretical framework for probably approximately correct (PAC) multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithms for Markov games. The paper offers an extension to the well-known Nash Q-learning algorithm, using the idea of delayed Q-learning, in order to build a new PAC MARL algorithm for general-sum Markov games. In addition to guiding the design of a provably PAC MARL algorithm, the framework enables checking whether an arbitrary MARL algorithm is PAC. Comparative numerical results demonstrate performance and robustness.

The purpose of this paper is to improve the traditional K-means algorithm. In the traditional K mean clustering algorithm, the initial clustering centers are generated randomly in the data set. It is easy to fall into the local minimum solution when the initial cluster centers are randomly generated. The initial clustering center selected by K-means clustering algorithm which based on density is more representative. The experimental results show that the improved K clustering algorithm can eliminate the dependence on the initial cluster, and the accuracy of clustering is improved.
In this short communication we introduce the quick clustering algorithm (QUIST), an efficient hierarchical clustering algorithm based on sorting. QUIST is a poly-logarithmic divisive clustering algorithm that does not assume the number of clusters, and/or the cluster size to be known ahead of time. It is also insensitive to the original ordering of the input.

Mixed datasets consist of both numeric and categorical attributes. Various k-means-based clustering algorithms have been developed for these datasets. Generally, these algorithms use random partition as a starting point, which tends to produce different clustering results for different runs. In this paper, we propose, initKmix, a novel algorithm for finding an initial partition for k-means-based clustering algorithms for mixed datasets. In the initKmix algorithm, a k-means-based clustering algorithm is run many times, and in each run, one of the attributes is used to create initial clusters fo…

A novel clustering technique based on the projection onto convex set (POCS) method, called POCS-based clustering algorithm, is proposed in this paper. The proposed POCS-based clustering algorithm exploits a parallel projection method of POCS to find appropriate cluster prototypes in the feature space. The algorithm considers each data point as a convex set and projects the cluster prototypes parallelly to the member data points. The projections are convexly combined to minimize the objective function for data clustering purpose. The performance of the proposed POCS-based clustering algorithm i…

Clustering algorithms are widely utilized for many modern data science applications. This motivates the need to make outputs of clustering algorithms fair. Traditionally, new fair algorithmic variants to clustering algorithms are developed for specific notions of fairness. However, depending on the application context, different definitions of fairness might need to be employed. As a result, new algorithms and analysis need to be proposed for each combination of clustering algorithm and fairness definition. Additionally, each new algorithm would need to be reimplemented for deployment in a rea…

The traditional prototype based clustering methods, such as the well-known fuzzy c-mean (FCM) algorithm, usually need sufficient data to find a good clustering partition. If the available data is limited or scarce, most of the existing prototype based clustering algorithms will no longer be effective. While the data for the current clustering task may be scarce, there is usually some useful knowledge available in the related scenes/domains. In this study, the concept of transfer learning is applied to prototype based fuzzy clustering (PFC). Specifically, the idea of leveraging knowledge from t…
Cluster analysis organizes data into sensible groupings and is one of fundamental modes of understanding and learning. The widely used K-means and hierarchical clustering methods can be dramatically suboptimal due to local minima. Recently introduced convex clustering approach formulates clustering as a convex optimization problem and ensures a globally optimal solution. However, the state-of-the-art convex clustering algorithms, based on the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) or the alternating minimization algorithm (AMA), require large computation and memory space, which lim…
The clustering algorithms that view each object data as a single sample drawn from a certain distribution, Gaussian distribution, for example, has been a hot topic for decades. Many clustering algorithms: such as k-means and spectral clustering are proposed based on the single sample assumption. However, in real life, each input object can usually be the multiple samples drawn from a certain hidden distribution. The traditional clustering algorithms cannot handle such a situation. This calls for the multiple sample clustering algorithm. But the traditional multiple sample clustering algorithms…

Clustering algorithms are ubiquitous in modern data science pipelines, and are utilized in numerous fields ranging from biology to facility location. Due to their widespread use, especially in societal resource allocation problems, recent research has aimed at making clustering algorithms fair, with great success. Furthermore, it has also been shown that clustering algorithms, much like other machine learning algorithms, are susceptible to adversarial attacks where a malicious entity seeks to subvert the performance of the learning algorithm. However, despite these known vulnerabilities, there…
