In general line with our early works [Yu.A. Markov, M.A. Markova, Nucl. Phys. A770 (2006) 162; 784 (2007) 443] within the framework of a semiclassical approximation the general theory of calculation of effective currents and sources generating bremsstrahlung of an arbitrary number of soft quarks and soft gluons at collision of a high-energy color-charged particle with thermal partons in a hot quark-gluon plasma, is developed. For the case of one- and two-scattering thermal partons with radiation of one or two soft excitations, the effective currents and sources are calculated in an explicit form. In the model case of `frozen' medium, approximate expressions for energy losses induced by the most simple processes of bremsstrahlung of soft quark and soft gluon, are derived. On the basis of a conception of the mutual cancellation of singularities in the sum of so-called `diagonal' and `off-diagonal' contributions to the energy losses, an effective method of determining color factors in scattering probabilities, containing the initial values of Grassmann color charges, is suggested. The dynamical equations for Grassmann color charges of hard particle used by us early are proved to be insufficient for investigation of the higher radiative processes. It is shown that for correct description of these processes the given equations should be supplemented successively with the higher-order terms in powers of the soft fermionic field.
Recently cosmic ray electrons and positrons, i.e. cosmic ray charged leptons, have been observed. To understand the distances from our solar system to the sources of such lepton cosmic rays, it is important to understand energy losses from cosmic electrodynamic fields. Energy losses for ultra-relativistic electrons and/or positrons due to classical electrodynamic bremsstrahlung are computed. The energy losses considered are (i) due to Thompson scattering from fluctuating electromagnetic fields in the background cosmic thermal black body radiation and (ii) due to the synchrotron radiation losse…
Within of the framework of semiclassical approximation a general formalism for deriving an effective current generating bremsstrahlung of arbitrary number of soft gluons (longitudinal or transverse ones) in scattering of higher-energy parton off thermal parton in hot quark-gluon plasma with subsequent extension to two and more scatterers, is obtained. For the case of static color centers an expression for energy loss induced by usual bremsstrahlung of lowest-order with allowance for an effective temperature-induced gluon mass and finite mass of the projectile (heavy quark), is derived. The det…
For the $e^+ e^- \to e^+ e^- γ$ process at colliding beams, macroscopically large impact parameters give an essential contribution to the standard cross section. These impact parameters may be much larger than the transverse sizes of the colliding bunches. It means that the standard calculations have to be essentially modify. In the present paper such a beam-size or MD-effect is calculated for bremsstrahlung at B-factories PEP-II and KEKB using the list of nominal parameters from Review of Particle Physics (2002). We find out that this effect reduces beam losses due to bremsstrahlung by about …
Within the framework of the effective theory for ultrasoft field modes a problem of interacting an energetic color particle with ultrasoft fluctuations in hot gluon plasma is considered. The procedure of calculation of certain effective current generating the process of interaction is proposed, and the problem of its gauge independence is discussed. The application of the theory developed to the problem of energy losses of the energetic color particle propagating through hot QCD-medium is given. It is shown that the perturbation approach for calculation of energy losses breaks down at the ultr…
We present a mini-review of the problem of evaluating the energy loss of a ultrarelativistic charged particle crossing a thermally equilibrated high temperature e+e- or quark-gluon plasma.
We enlarge the set of recipes and ingredients at disposal of any poor particle physicist eager to cook up signatures from weak-scale Dark Matter models by computing two secondary emissions due to DM particles annihilating or decaying in the galactic halo, namely the radio signals from synchrotron emission and the gamma rays from bremsstrahlung. We consider several magnetic field configurations and propagation scenarios for electrons and positrons. We also provide an improved energy loss function for electrons and positrons in the Galaxy, including synchrotron losses in the different configurat…
Effect of radiation of many photons by a single electron traversing a target is discussed. When the summary energy of emitted photons (the energy losses spectrum) is measured only, the photon spectrum is distorted comparing with the photon spectrum in one interaction. Influence of this effect is discussed for the cases (1) bremsstrahlung (described by Bethe-Heitler formula), (2) the strong Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal effect and (3) transition radiation. Qualitative picture of the phenomenon is discussed in detail. Comparison with the recent SLAC experiment in relatively thick target (2.7% of the…
Thermal photon emission rates from hot hadronic matter are studied to order $e^{2}g^{4}$, where $g$ indicates a strong-interaction coupling constant. Radiative decay of mesons, Compton and annihilation processes for hadrons, and bremsstrahlung reactions are all considered. Compared to the standard rates from the literature, one finds two orders of magnitude increase for low photon energies stemming mainly from bremsstrahlung and then a modest increase (factor of 2) for intermediate and high energy photons owing to radiative decays for a variety of mesons and from other reactions involving stra…
In a general line with our first work (Ann.Phys.302(2002),172; hep-ph/0207316), within hard thermal loop approximation a general theory of the scattering for an arbitrary number of colorless plasmons off hard thermal particles of hot QCD-medium is considered. Using generalized Tsytovich correspondence principle, a connection between matrix elements of the scattering processes and a certain effective current, generating these processes is established. The iterative procedure of calculation of these matrix elements is defined, and a problem of their gauge-invariance is discussed. An application …
In general line with our first work [Yu.A. Markov, M.A. Markova, Nucl. Phys. A 770 (2006) 162] within the framework of semiclassical approximation a general theory for the scattering processes of soft (anti)quark excitations off hard thermal particles in hot QCD-medium is thoroughly considered. The dynamical equations describing evolution for the usual classical color charge $Q^a(t)$ and Grassmann color charges $θ^i(t), θ^{\dagger i}(t)$ of hard particle taking into account the soft fermion degree of freedom of the system are suggested. On the basis of these equations and the Blaizot-Iancu equ…
In this conference contribution, we discuss the influence of gluon-bremsstrahlung damping in hot, absorptive QCD matter on the heavy-quark radiation spectra. Within our Monte-Carlo implementation for the description of the heavy-quark in-medium propagation we demonstrate that as a consequence of gluon damping the quenching of heavy quarks becomes significantly affected at higher transverse momenta.
We present results for the evolution of the momentum distribution of a hard parton traversing a brick of quark-gluon plasma, considering both bremsstrahlung and collisional energy loss. The complete leading order transition rates are included. We find a significant modification of the evolving momentum distribution compared to results obtained by employing an approximate implementation of the collisional energy loss that uses the mean energy loss, together with momentum diffusion.
A new channel of direct photon production from a quark gluon plasma (QGP) is explored. This process appears at Next-to-Leading-Order in the presence of a charge asymmetry in the heated matter and may be effectively described as the bremsstrahlung of a real photon from a thermal gluon. The photon production from this new mechanism is calculated in the effective theory of QCD at high temperature. The results show that the photon production rate may not as big as the annihilation and Compton scattering at low baryon density, but could become important in baryon-rich matter.

A theoretical derivation of photon bremsstrahlung, induced by the interactions of an energetic quark in a hot and dense quark-gluon plasma, is given in the framework of the reaction operator approach. For the physically relevant case of hard jet production, followed by few in-medium interactions, we find that the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal suppression of the bremsstrahlung photon intensity is much stronger than in the previously discussed limit of on-shell quarks and a large number of soft scatterings. We present the first systematic study of direct photon production in minimum bias d+Cu and d+…
The photon bremsstrahlung rate from a quark jet produced in deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) off a large nucleus is studied in the collinear limit. The leading medium-enhanced higher twist corrections which describe the multiple scattering of the jet in the nucleus are re-summed to all orders of twist. The propagation of the jet in the absence of further radiative energy loss is shown to be governed by a transverse momentum diffusion equation. We compute the final photon spectrum in the limit of soft photons, taking into account the leading and next-to-leading terms in the photon momentum fract…
We compute the energy loss of heavy quarkonia in high temperature QCD plasmas and investigate the energy loss effects on quarkonium suppression. Based on the effective vertex derived from the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude for quarkonium, the collisional and radiative energy loss are determined by quarkonium-gluon elastic scattering and the associated gluon-bremsstrahlung, respectively. In the energy regime $E<m_Υ^2/T$ the collisional energy loss is dominant over the radiative one, and the total energy loss increases with the plasma temperature and the initial energy of quarkonium. Our numerical ana…
We discuss the the GLV Reaction Operator formalism for computing the non-abelian energy loss of jets propagating through hot and dense matter. We incorporate our results on induced gluon bremsstrahlung together with the effects of nuclear shadowing and multiple scattering in a two component soft+hard description of heavy ion reactions at RHIC energies. We demonstrate that good agreement between data and theory can be achieved in the measured moderate p_T <= 5 GeV window at root(s)=130 AGeV and we extend our predictions for the high p_T part of the hadronic spectra. We focus on the perspectives…
Medium modification of dihadron fragmentation functions due to gluon bremsstrahlung induced by multiple partonic scattering is studied in both deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) off large nuclei and high-energy heavy-ion collisions within the same framework of twist expansion. The modified fragmentation functions for dihadrons are found to follow closely that of single hadrons leading to a weak nuclear suppression of their ratios as measured by HERMES in DIS experiments. Meanwhile, a moderate medium enhancement of the near-side correlation of two high transverse momentum hadrons with increasing c…
Medium modification of parton fragmentation functions induced by multiple scattering and gluon bremsstrahlung is shown to describe the recent HERMES data in deeply inelastic scattering (DIS) very well, providing the first evidence of $A^{2/3}$-dependence of the modification. The energy loss is found to be $<dE/dL> \approx 0.5$ GeV/fm for a 10-GeV quark in a $Au$ nucleus. Including the effect of expansion, analysis of the $π^0$ spectra in central $Au+Au$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=130$ GeV yields an averaged energy loss equivalent to $<dE/dL> \approx 7.3$ GeV/fm in a static medium. Predictions for…
We compute the photon emission rate of an equilibrated, hot QCD plasma at zero chemical potential, to leading order in both alpha_{EM} and the QCD coupling g_s(T). This requires inclusion of near-collinear bremsstrahlung and inelastic pair annihilation contributions, and correct incorporation of Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal suppression effects for these processes. Analogous results for a QED plasma are also included.
Collisional energy loss of heavy partons (charm and bottom quarks) has been determined within the framework of semi-classical transport theory implying Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) collisional kernel. Hot QCD medium effects have been incorporated while employing a quasi-particle description of the medium in terms of effective gluons, quarks and antiquarks with respective temperature dependent effective fugacities. The momentum dependence of the energy loss for charm and bottom quark has been investigated. It is observed that with the increase in momentum of the heavy quarks, the loss increases …
We consider a stationary, spherically outflowing wind consisting of electron-positron pairs and photons. We do not assume thermal equilibrium, and include the two-body processes that occur in such a wind: Moller and Bhaba scattering of pairs, Compton scattering, two-photon pair annihilation, and two-photon pair production, together with their radiative three-body variants: bremsstrahlung, double Compton scattering, and three-photon pair annihilation, with their inverse processes. In the concrete example described here, the wind injection source is a hot, bare, strange star. Such stars are thou…
We study the real-time nonequilibrium dynamics in hot QED plasmas implementing a dynamical renormalization group and using the hard thermal loop (HTL) approximation. The focus is on the study of the relaxation of gauge and fermionic mean fields and on the quantum kinetics of the photon and fermion distribution functions. For semihard photons of momentum eT << k << T we find to leading order in the HTL that the gauge mean field relaxes in time with a power law as a result of infrared enhancement of the spectral density near the Landau damping threshold. The dynamical renormalization group revea…
