Generic classical electron motion in a strong perpendicular magnetic field and random potential reduces to the bond percolation on a square lattice. Here we point out that for certain smooth 2D potentials with 120 degrees rotational symmetry this problem reduces to the site percolation on a triangular lattice. We use this observation to develop an approximate analytical description of the integer quantum Hall transition. For this purpose we devise a quantum generalization of the real-space renormalization group (RG) treatment of the site percolation on the triangular lattice. In quantum case, the RG transformation describes the evolution of the distribution of the $3\times 3$ scattering matrix at the sites. We find the fixed point of this distribution and use it to determine the critical exponent, $ν$, for which we find the value $ν\approx 2.3-2.76$. The RG step involves only a single Hikami box, and thus can serve as a minimal RG description of the quantum Hall transition.
Quantum Hall (QH) interferometry provides an archetypal platform for the experimental realization of braiding statistics of fractional QH states. However, the complexity of observing fractional statistics requires phase coherence over the length of the interferometer, as well as suppression of Coulomb charging energy. Here, we demonstrate a new type of QH interferometer based on marginally twisted bilayer graphene (mtBLG), with a twist angle $θ$ $\approx$ $0.16$ $^{\circ}$. With the device operating in the QH regime, we observe distinct signatures of electronic Fabry-Pérot (FP) and Aharonov-Bo…
The non-trivial magnon band topology and its consequent responses have been extensively studied in two-dimensional magnetisms. However, the triangular lattice antiferromagnet (TLAF), the best-known frustrated two-dimensional magnet, has received less attention than the closely related Kagome system, because of the spin-chirality cancellation in the umbrella ground state of the undistorted TLAF. In this work, we study the band topology and the thermal Hall effect (THE) of the TLAF with (anti-)trimerization distortion under the external perpendicular magnetic field using the linearized spin wave…
The propagation of electrons in an orbital multiplet dispersing on a lattice can support anomalous transport phenomena deriving from an orbitally-induced Berry curvature. In striking contrast to the related situation in graphene, we find that anomalous transport for an $L=1$ multiplet on the primitive 2D triangular lattice is activated by easily implemented on-site and optically-tunable potentials. We demonstrate this for dynamics in a Bloch band where point degeneracies carrying opposite winding numbers are generically offset in energy, allowing both an anomalous charge Hall conductance with …
We present numerical evidence that most two-dimensional surface states of a bulk topological superconductor (TSC) sit at an integer quantum Hall plateau transition. We study TSC surface states in class CI with quenched disorder. Low-energy (finite-energy) surface states were expected to be critically delocalized (Anderson localized). We confirm the low-energy picture, but find instead that finite-energy states are also delocalized, with universal statistics that are independent of the TSC winding number, and consistent with the spin quantum Hall plateau transition (percolation).

We study the many-body ground states of two-component hardcore bosons in topological triangular lattice models. Utilizing exact diagonalization and density-matrix renormalization group calculations, we demonstrate that at commensurate two-thirds filling per lattice site, two-component bosonic integer quantum hall (BIQH) effect emerges with the associated $\mathbf{K}=\begin{pmatrix} 0 & 1\\ 1 & 0\\ \end{pmatrix}$ matrix under strong intercomponent Hubbard repulsion. The topological nature is further elucidated by (i) a unique ground state degeneracy with a robust spectrum gap, (ii) a quantized …
Large-gap quantum spin Hall insulators are promising materials for room-temperature applications based on Dirac fermions. Key to engineer the topologically non-trivial band ordering and sizable band gaps is strong spin-orbit interaction. Following Kane and Mele's original suggestion, one approach is to synthesize monolayers of heavy atoms with honeycomb coordination accommodated on templates with hexagonal symmetry. Yet, in the majority of cases, this recipe leads to triangular lattices, typically hosting metals or trivial insulators. Here, we conceive and realize "indenene", a triangular mono…
