The status of W and Z cross-section and width measurements from the CDF and D0 experiments is reviewed. Recent results that are discussed: the cross-section for Z production times the branching ratio to tau pairs, the rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of Z production in the electron channel, and the direct measurements of the W width and the Z invisible width; the latter from an analysis of events with large missing transverse energy and one or more energetic jets.
The measurement of the Z resonance parameters and lepton forward-backward asymmetries are presented. These are determined from a sample of 4.5 million Z decays accumulated with the ALEPH detector at LEP1.
The cross-section for the production of two jets in association with a leptonically decaying Z boson ($Zjj$) is measured in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, using data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb$^{-1}$. The electroweak $Zjj$ cross-section is extracted in a fiducial region chosen to enhance the electroweak contribution relative to the dominant Drell-Yan $Zjj$ process, which is constrained using a data-driven approach. The measured fiducial electroweak cross-section is $σ^{Zjj}_{…
We present the most recent precision electroweak measurements of single $W$ and $Z$ boson cross section and properties from the LHC and Tevatron colliders, analyzing data collected by ATLAS, CDF, CMS, D0, and LHCb detectors. The results include the measurement of the single $W$ and $Z$ boson cross section at LHC, the differential cross section measurements, the measurement of $W$ boson mass, the measurement of $W$ and $Z$ charge asymmetry. These measurements provide precision tests on the electroweak theory, high order predictions and the information can be used to constraint parton distributi…
In the LHC era, it is crucial to gain a good understanding of the electroweak sector of the Standard Model (SM). Determining the cross-sections of electroweak processes is therefore of great importance, both as prerequisites to Higgs-Boson searches as well as measurements in their own right. For this conference, several new measurements with the data from proton-proton collisions at \sqrt{s} = 7 TeV taken in 2010 and 2011 with the ATLAS detector have been prepared: A measurement of the isolated di-photon cross-section using 37 pb^{-1} collected in 2010 and a measurement of the WZ production cr…
A measurement is presented of the cross section for the electroweak production of a Z boson and a photon in association with two jets in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)= 8 TeV. The Z bosons are identified through their decays to electron or muon pairs. The measurement is based on data collected with the CMS detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns. The electroweak contribution has a significance of 3.0 standard deviations, and the measured fiducial cross section is 1.86 +0.90/-0.75 (stat) +0.34/-0.26 (syst) +/- 0.05 (lumi) fb, while the summed electrowe…

The measurement, combining the muon and electron channels, yields sigma = 154 +/- 24 (stat.) +/- 46 (exp. syst.) +/- 27 (th. syst.) +/- …
HERA, the only ep collider, operated in the years 1992-2007 at centre-of-mass energies of 300-320 GeV in Hamburg, Germany. Deep inelastic neutral and charged current scattering at HERA provides the possibility to study the structure of the proton, the dynamics of strong interactions and test quantum chromodynamics (QCD) over a huge kinematic range. Both, neutral and charged current interactions provide complementary information on the QCD and electroweak parts of the Standard Model. In addition, HERA data allow for indirect searches for new phenomena originating at large scales, however, no ev…
New preliminary electroweak results from the HERA lepton-proton collider experiments H1 and ZEUS are presented. These include new high Q^2 neutral current cross section measurements and limits on a possible quark radius, in the search for contact interactions, and on the quark-Z couplings, extracted in combined electroweak and QCD fits. Furthermore, new charged current cross section measurements as a function of the lepton-beam polarisation are presented, as well as charged current measurement results, using the combined HERA I data from H1 and ZEUS. Finally, measurements of the single W boson…
In this talk we review the electroweak contribution to top quark pair production at hadron colliders. We discuss the phenomenological impact of these corrections on the cross sections and on the charge asymmetries at the Tevatron and the LHC.
We present recent preliminary measurements at the Tevatron of t-tbar and single top production cross section, top quark mass and width, top pair spin correlations and forward-backward asymmetry. In the electroweak sector, we present the Tevatron average of the W boson width, and preliminary measurements of the W and Z forward-backward asymmetries and WZ, ZZ diboson production cross sections. All measurements are based on larger amount of collision data than previously used and are in agreement with the standard model.

The increasing size of the data samples recorded by the CDF and DO experiments at the Tevatron enables studies of a wide range of processes involving the electroweak bosons W and Z. Single boson production is now looked at in terms of differential cross sections such as rapidity or transverse momentum dependence. Diboson production cross-sections are several orders of magnitude smaller than single boson production cross-sections, but all combinations Wgamma, Zgamma, WW and WZ have been observed. ZZ production is expected at a rate just below the observation threshold with current data sample s…
An overview of recent measurements of electroweak and top quark physics is given. In particular, total and differential diboson cross sections, limits on anomalous triple gauge couplings as well as top quark production cross sections and properties, such as charge asymmetry, top quark polarization and Wtb vertex measurements, are presented. Proton-proton collision data produced at the LHC at sqrt s = 7 TeV and sqrt s = 8 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector are used.
The first measurements of diboson production cross sections in proton-proton interactions at a center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV are reported. They are based on data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 302 pb$^{-1}$. Events with two, three, or four charged light leptons (electrons or muons) in the final state are analyzed. The WW, WZ, and ZZ total cross sections are measured as $σ_\mathrm{WW} =$ 37.0 $^{+5.5}_{-5.2}$ (stat) $^{+2.7}_{-2.6}$ (syst) pb, $σ_\mathrm{WZ} =$ 6.4 $^{+2.5}_{-2.1}$ (stat) $^{+0.5}_{-0.3}$ (syst) pb, and $σ_\mathrm{ZZ…

A measurement is presented of the cross section for electroweak production of a Z boson and a photon in association with two jets (Z$γ$jj) in proton-proton collisions. The Z boson candidates are selected through their decay into a pair of electrons or muons. The process of interest, electroweak Z$γ$jj production, is isolated by selecting events with a large dijet mass and a large pseudorapidity gap between the two jets. The measurement is based on data collected at the CMS experiment at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb$^{-1}$. The observed significance …
The associated production of Higgs boson with a muon pair, $e^+e^-\to μ^+μ^- H$, is one of the golden channels to pin down the properties of the Higgs boson in the prospective Higgs factories exemplified by \textsf{CEPC}. The projected accuracy of the corresponding cross section measurement is about per cent level at CEPC. In this work, we investigate both ${\mathcal O}(α)$ weak correction and the ${\mathcal O}(αα_s)$ mixed electroweak-QCD corrections for this channel, appropriately taking into account the effect of finite $Z^0$ width. The $μ^+μ^-$ invariant mass spectrum is also predicted. Th…

The measurements are performed using $20.3~$fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=8$~TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The measured fiducial cross sections are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions. Limits at 95\% confidence level are set on anomalous triple and quartic gauge couplings.
We present results from electroweak precision measurements at CDF. These include the measurement of the Z boson rapidity distribution using di-electron events, the W boson charge asymmetry measurement in the electron-neutrino decay and the direct measurement of the W boson mass and width in both the electron-neutrino and muon-neutrino decay channels.
We report on measurements of hadronic and leptonic cross sections and leptonic forward-backward asymmetries performed with the L3 detector in the years 1993-95. A total luminosity of 103 pb^-1 was collected at centre-of-mass energies \sqrt{s} ~ m_Z and \sqrt{s} ~ m_Z +/- 1.8 GeV which corresponds to 2.5 million hadronic and 245 thousand leptonic events selected. These data lead to a significantly improved determination of Z parameters. From the total cross sections, combined with our measurements in 1990-92, we obtain the final results: m_Z = 91189.8 +/- 3.1 MeV, Gamma_Z = 2502.4 +/- 4.2 MeV, …
Fiducial and differential cross-section measurements of electroweak $Wγjj$ production in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV with the ATLAS detector
We present an updated study of the systematic errors in the measurements of the electroweak boson cross-sections at the LHC for various experimental cuts for a center of mass energy of 7, 10 and 14 TeV. The size of both electroweak and NNLO QCD contributions are estimated, together with the systematic error from the parton distributions. The effects of new versions of the MSTW, CTEQ, and NNPDF PDFs are considered.
Differential cross-section measurements are presented for the electroweak production of two jets in association with a $Z$ boson. These measurements are sensitive to the vector-boson fusion production mechanism and provide a fundamental test of the gauge structure of the Standard Model. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by ATLAS at $\sqrt{s}$=13 TeV and with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$^{-1}$. The differential cross-sections are measured in the $Z\rightarrow \ell^+\ell^-$ decay channel ($\ell=e,μ$) as a function of four observables: the dijet invaria…

The measurements are performed using 20.3 inverse femtobarns of proton-proton collision data collected at a centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s)=8 TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The electroweak component is extracted by a fit to the dijet invariant mass distribution in a fiducial region chosen to enhance the electroweak contribution over the dominant background in which the jets are produced via the strong interaction. The electroweak cross sect…
Neutral and charged current deep inelastic ep scattering with longitudinally polarised lepton beams has been studied with the H1 and ZEUS detectors at HERA. The differential cross sections were measured in the range of four-momentum transfer squared, Q^2, up to 50'000 GeV^2, where electroweak effects become clearly visible. The measurements were used to determine the structure function xF_3 and to constrain vector and the axial-vector couplings of the light quarks to the Z^0 boson. The polarisation dependence of the charged current total cross section was also measured. Limits on flavour chang…

We report on a search for Standard Model t-channel and s-channel single top quark production in ppbar collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. We use a data sample corresponding to 162 pb^{-1} recorded by the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab. We find no significant evidence for electroweak top quark production and set upper limits at the 95% confidence level on the production cross section, consistent with the Standard Model: 10.1 pb for the t-channel, 13.6 pb for the s-channel and 17.8 pb for the combined cross section of t- and s-channel.

A study of W+W- events accompanied by hard photon radiation produced in e+e- collisions at LEP is presented. Events consistent with two on-shell W-bosons and an isolated photon are selected from 183pb^-1 of data recorded at root{s}=189GeV. From these data, 17 W+W-gamma candidates are selected with photon energy greater than 10GeV, consistent with the Standard Model expectation. These events are used to measure the e+e- to W+W-gamma cross-section within a set of geometric and kinematic cuts; sigma{W+W-gamma} = 136+-37+-8 fb, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. The ph…

Averages are derived for di-fermion cross sections and forward-backward asymmetries, photon-pair, W-pair, Z-pair, single-W and single-Z cross sections, electroweak gauge boson couplings, W mass and width and W decay branching ratios. An investigation of the interference of photon and …
The lightest electroweak baryon as a topological object is investigated by using a general effective Lagrangian of composite electroweak symmetry breaking and the spin-independent electroweak baryon-nucleon scattering cross section is calculated. We explicitly show the masses of the electroweak baryons and the cross section as functions of the Peskin-Takeuchi $S$ parameter and the ratio of the masses of axial-vector and vector composite bosons. We find that it is acceptable to regard the electroweak baryon as a dark matter candidate and the even number of technicolor is favored.
A measurement is presented of the cross section for the electroweak production of a W boson in association with two jets in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data set was collected with the CMS detector and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.3 inverse femtobarns. The measured fiducial cross section for W bosons decaying to electrons or muons and for pT(j1) > 60 GeV, pT(j2) > 50 GeV, |eta(j)| < 4.7, and m(jj) > 1000 GeV is 0.42 +/- 0.04 (stat) +/- 0.09 (syst) +/- 0.01 (lumi) pb. This result is consistent with the standard model leading-order prediction…
Recent electroweak results from the CDF and D0 Collaborations at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider are presented. After a brief description of the \D0 measurements of W/Z production cross sections, W width, W mass and W \to τνdecays, the CDF result on W(pT) distribution is outlined. The comprehensive search for anomalous gauge couplings by \D0 in 1992-96 data is presented along with a detailed description of the WW/WZ \to μνjj channel.
Measurements of electroweak boson production provide an important test of the Standard Model at the LHC energies and allow the partonic content of the proton to be constrained. $W$ and $Z$ bosons are reconstructed in several leptonic final states using data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to about 1 $fb^{-1}$. Inclusive and associated production cross-sections are reported.
Single top quarks in the $t$ channel are produced though the electroweak force and are therefore an excellent way to probe the electroweak sector of the standard model with top quark physics. The recent cross section measurement of single top $t$-channel production from the CMS collaboration is presented in this poster. The analyzed data was taken during the LHC Run II in 2015 at a center-of-mass energy of $13\,\textrm{TeV}$. A multivariate classifier is used to distinguish signal and background processes and the cross section is then extracted using a binned maximum-likelihood fit.
The CCFR collaboration reports a precise measurement of electroweak parameters derived from the ratio of neutral-current to charged-current cross-sections in neutrino-nucleon scattering at the Fermilab Tevatron. This ratio of cross-sections measures the neutral current couplings to quarks, which implies a determination of sin^2 theta_W (on-shell) = 0.2236 +/- 0.0028(expt.) +/- 0.0030(model) for m_top=175 GeV, m_Higgs=150 GeV. This is equivalent to M_W=80.35+/-0.21 GeV. The good agreement of this measurement with Standard Model expectations implies the exclusion of additional neutrino-neutrino-…
Recent measurements of processes involving the electroweak bosons, Z and W, performed at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider are summarized. The large integrated luminosities collected by both the D0 and CDF Collaborations enable precise measurements of differential single boson production cross sections, the determination of the W mass with unprecedented precision, and the observation of diboson production including ZZ.
We present a deep learning solution to the prediction of particle production cross sections over a complicated, high-dimensional parameter space. We demonstrate the applicability by providing state-of-the-art predictions for the production of charginos and neutralinos at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the next-to-leading order in the phenomenological MSSM-19 and explicitly demonstrate the performance for $pp\to\tildeχ^+_1\tildeχ^-_1,$ $\tildeχ^0_2\tildeχ^0_2$ and $\tildeχ^0_2\tildeχ^\pm_1$ as a proof of concept which will be extended to all SUSY electroweak pairs. We obtain errors that are…
We are exploring a generic strongly-interacting Electroweak Symmetry Breaking Sector (EWSBS) with the low-energy effectie field theory for the four experimentally known particles ($W_L^\pm$, $Z_L$, $h$) and its dispersion-relation based unitary extension. In this contribution we provide simple estimates for the production cross section of pairs of the EWSBS bosons and their resonances at proton-proton colliders as well as in a future $e^-e^+$ (or potentially a $μ^-μ^+$) collider with a typical few-TeV energy. We examine the simplest production mechanisms, tree-level production through a $W$ (d…
We present a new program (iHixs) which computes the inclusive Higgs boson cross-section at hadron colliders. It incorporates QCD corrections through NNLO, real and virtual electroweak corrections, mixed QCD-electroweak corrections, quark-mass effects through NLO in QCD, and finite width effects for the Higgs boson and heavy quarks. iHixs can be used to obtain the most precise cross-section values in fixed order perturbation theory in the Standard Model. In addition, it allows for a consistent evaluation of the cross-section in modified Higgs boson sectors with anomalous Yukawa and electroweak …
Results for the complete NLO electroweak corrections to Standard Model Higgs production via gluon fusion are included in the total cross section for hadronic collisions. Artificially large threshold effects are avoided working in the complex-mass scheme. The numerical impact at LHC (Tevatron) energies is explored for Higgs mass values up to 500 GeV (200 GeV). Assuming a complete factorization of the electroweak corrections, one finds a +5 % shift with respect to the NNLO QCD cross section for a Higgs mass of 120 GeV both at the LHC and the Tevatron. Adopting two different factorization schemes…
We describe a calculation of the O(alpha_s^2) QCD corrections to the fully differential cross section for W and Z boson production in hadronic collisions. The result is fully realistic in that it includes spin correlations, finite width effects, gamma-Z interference and allows for the application of arbitrary cuts on the leptonic decay products of the W and Z. We have implemented this calculation into a numerical program. We demonstrate the use of this code by presenting phenomenological results for several future LHC analyses and recent Tevatron measurements, including the W cross section in …
The inclusive cross sections of W$^+$, W$^-$, and Z boson production from 34 different measurements performed in proton-(anti)proton collisions at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ = 1.8--13 TeV, are compared to perturbative QCD calculations at next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) accuracy with four sets of parton distributions functions (CT14, HERAPDF2.0, MMHT14, and NNPDF3.0 PDFs) and varying values of the strong coupling constant at the Z mass pole, $α_s(m_Z)$. The data-theory agreement is good within the experimental and theoretical uncertainties, with the CT14 and MMHT14 parton densities…
Several extensions of the Standard Model predict the existence of new neutral spin-1 resonances associated to the electroweak symmetry breaking sector. Using the data from ATLAS (with integrated luminosity of L=1.02 fb^{-1}) and CMS (with integrated luminosity of L=1.55 fb^{-1}) on the production of W+W- pairs through the process pp -> l^+ l^{\prime -} \sla{E}_T, we place model independent bounds on these new vector resonances masses, couplings and widths. Our analyses show that the present data excludes new neutral vector resonances with masses up to 1-2.3 TeV depending on their couplings and…
We compute the 3-loop O(αα_s) correction to the Higgs boson production cross section arising from light quarks using an effective theory approach. Our calculation probes the factorization of QCD and electroweak perturbative corrections to this process. We combine our results with the best current estimates for contributions from top and bottom quarks to derive an updated theoretical prediction for the Higgs boson production cross section in gluon fusion. With the use of the MSTW 2008 parton distribution functions that include the newest experimental data, our study results in cross sections ap…
We calculate the full one-loop electroweak radiative corrections to the cross section of single W-boson inclusive hadroproduction at finite transverse momentum (p_T). This includes the O(alpha) corrections to W+j production, the O(alpha_s) corrections to W+gamma production, and the tree-level contribution from W+j photoproduction with one direct or resolved photon in the initial state. We present the integrated cross section as a function of a minimum-p_T cut as well as the p_T distribution for the experimental conditions at the Fermilab Tevatron and the CERN LHC and estimate the theoretical u…
We present a calculation of the cross section for the process e+ e- --> W+/- H-/+ in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) and the Two Higgs Doublet Model (THDM). We study the basic features of the MSSM prediction for some distinctive parameter scenarios. We find large effects from virtual squarks for scenarios with large mixing in the stop sector which can lead to a cross section vastly different from a THDM with identical Higgs sector parameters. We investigate this interesting behaviour in more detail by thoroughly scanning the MSSM parameter space for regions of large cross sect…
This paper presents predictions for jet pseudorapidity (eta) and transverse momentum (p_T) distributions for the production of the Standard Model Higgs boson in association with a high-p_T hadronic jet. We discuss the contributions of electroweak loops and of bottom-quark parton processes to the cross section. The latter arise in the five-flavour scheme. Predictions for the Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider with 10 TeV collision energy are presented. For Higgs boson masses of 120 GeV, 160 GeV and 200 GeV, we find the maximal effects of the electroweak contributions to the Higgs plus jet p…
We present theoretical predictions for the Higgs boson production cross-section via gluon fusion at the LHC in a Standard Model with four generations. We include QCD corrections through NLO retaining the full dependence on the quark masses, and the NNLO corrections in the heavy quark effective theory approximation. We also include electroweak corrections through three loops. Electroweak and bottom-quark contributions are suppressed in comparison to the Standard Model with three generations.
Electroweak radiative corrections are computed for Higgs production through vector boson fusion, qq->qqH, which is one of the most promising channels for detecting and studying the Higgs boson at the LHC. Using soft-collinear effective theory, we obtain numerical results for the resummed logarithmic contributions to the hadronic cross section at next-to-leading logarithmic order. We compare our results to HAWK and find good agreement below 2 TeV where the logarithms do not dominate. The SCET method is at its best in the high LHC energy domain where the corrections are found to be slightly larg…
The production of a neutral and a charged vector boson with subsequent decays into three charged leptons and a neutrino is a very important process for precision tests of the Standard Model of elementary particles and in searches for anomalous triple-gauge-boson couplings. In this article, the first computation of next-to-leading-order electroweak corrections to the production of the four-lepton final states $μ^+μ^- e^+ ν_e$, $μ^+μ^- e^- \barν_e$, $μ^+μ^- μ^+ν_μ$, and $μ^+μ^- μ^- \barν_μ$ at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. We use the complete matrix elements at leading and next-to-lead…
Recent developments in the measurement of precision electroweak measurements are summarised, notably new results on the mass of the top quark and mass and width of the W boson. Predictions of the Standard Model are compared to the experimental results which are used to constrain the input parameters of the Standard Model, in particular the mass of the Higgs boson. The agreement between measurements and expectations from theory is discussed. Invited talk presented at the EPS HEP 2007 conference Manchester, England, July 19th to 25th, 2007
