The [dual] string tension of a spatial 't Hooft loop in the deconfined phase of Yang-Mills theory can be formulated as the tension of an interface separating different Z_N deconfined vacua. We review the 1-loop perturbative calculation of this interface tension in the continuum and extend it to the lattice. The lattice corrections are large. Taking these corrections into account, we compare Monte Carlo measurements of the dual string tension with perturbation theory, for SU(2). Agreement is observed at the 2% level, down to temperatures O(10) T_c.

We present a detailed analysis of statistical and systematic errors in the calculation of matrix elements of iso-vector scalar, axial and tensor charges between a neutron and a proton state. These analyses are being done on dynamical $N_f=2+1+1$ HISQ configurations generated by the MILC Collaboration using valence clover fermions. Using ensembles at three values of the lattice spacing ($a=0.12,\ 0.09,$ and $0.06$ fm) and three values of the quark mass ($M_π\approx 310,\ 220$ and $130$ MeV) we find that the estimates of the tensor charge are stable and it can be extracted with $5\%$ precision w…

We present a determination of the decay constants of the $D$ and $D_s$ mesons from lattice QCD, each with a total error of about 2%, approximately a factor of three better than previous calculations. We have been able to achieve this through the use of a highly improved discretization of QCD for charm quarks, coupled to gauge configurations generated by the MILC collaboration that include the full effect of sea u, d, and s quarks. We derive the axion-nucleon interaction Lagrangian in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory up to next-to-next-to-leading order. The effective axion-nucleon coupling is calculated to a few percent accuracy.

We discuss the sources of uncertainty in calculations of the partial widths of the Higgs boson within the Standard Model. The uncertainties come from two sources: the truncation of perturbation theory and the uncertainties in input parameters. We review the current status of perturbative calculations and note that these are already reaching the parts-per-mil level of accuracy for the major decay modes.
