Hadron generation models are indispensable for the simulation and calibration of particle physics detectors. The models used by the Geant4 simulation tool kit are compared with inclusive spectra of secondary protons and pions from the interactions with beryllium nuclei of +8.9 GeV/c protons and pions, and of -8.0 GeV/c pions. We report on significant disagreements between data and model predictions especially in the polar-angle distributions of secondary protons and pions.
Several different analysis methods have been developed to determine the strong coupling via finite-energy sum-rule analyses of hadronic $τ$ decay data. While most methods agree on the existence of the well-known ambiguity in the choice of a resummation scheme due to the slow convergence of QCD perturbation theory at the $τ$ mass, there is an ongoing controversy over how to deal properly with non-perturbative effects. These are small, but not negligible, and include quark-hadron "duality violations" (i.e., resonance effects) which are not described by the operator product expansion (OPE). In on…
We review the present status of the determination of parton distribution functions (PDFs) in the light of the precision requirements for the LHC in Run 2 and other future hadron colliders. We provide brief reviews of all currently available PDF sets and use them to compute cross sections for a number of benchmark processes, including Higgs boson production in gluon-gluon fusion at the LHC. We show that the differences in the predictions obtained with the various PDFs are due to particular theory assumptions made in the fits of those PDFs. We discuss PDF uncertainties in the kinematic region co…
Highly reliable Monte-Carlo event generators and detector simulation programs are important for the precision measurement in the high energy physics. Huge amounts of computing resources are required to produce a sufficient number of simulated events. Moreover, simulation parameters have to be fine-tuned to reproduce situations in the high energy particle interactions which is not trivial in some phase spaces in physics interests. In this paper, we suggest a new method based on the Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Network (WGAN) that can learn the probability distribution of the real data. Ou…
Results from the Wroclaw Monte Carlo neutrino generator of events are reported. Predictions for charged hadron multiplicities, neutral pion and strange particle production are presented and compared with available data.
Current and future neutrino oscillation experiments utilize information of hadronic final states to improve sensitivities on oscillation parameters measurements. Among the physics of hadronic systems in neutrino interactions, the hadronization model controls multiplicities and kinematics of final state hadrons from the primary interaction vertex. For relatively high invariant mass events, neutrino interaction generators rely on the PYTHIA6 hadronization program. Here, we show a possible improvement of this process in neutrino event generators, by utilizing expertise from the HERMES experiment.…
We present a partial upgrade of the Monte Carlo event generator TAUOLA with the two and three hadron decay modes using the theoretical models based on Resonance Chiral Theory. These modes account for 88% of total hadronic width of the tau meson. First results of the model parameters have been obtained using BaBar data for three pion mode.
We review the physics basis, main features and use of general-purpose Monte Carlo event generators for the simulation of proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Topics included are: the generation of hard-scattering matrix elements for processes of interest, at both leading and next-to-leading QCD perturbative order; their matching to approximate treatments of higher orders based on the showering approximation; the parton and dipole shower formulations; parton distribution functions for event generators; non-perturbative aspects such as soft QCD collisions, the underlying event …

The determination of the primary energy and mass of ultra-high-energy cosmic-rays (UHECR) generating extensive air-showers in the Earth's atmosphere, relies on the detailed modeling of hadronic multiparticle production at center-of-mass (c.m.) collision energies up to two orders of magnitude higher than those studied at particle colliders. The first Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data have extended by more than a factor of three the c.m. energies in which we have direct proton-proton measurements available to compare to hadronic models. In this work we compare LHC results on inclusive particle pr…
Beauty and charm quarks are ideal probes of pertubative Quantum Chromodymanics in proton-proton collisions, owing to their large masses. In this paper the role of multi-parton interactions in the production of doubly-heavy hadrons is studied using simulation samples generated with Pythia, a Monte Carlo event generator. Comparisons are made to the stand-alone generators BcVegPy and GenXicc. New methods of speeding up Pythia simulations for events containing heavy quarks are described, enabling the production of large samples with multiple heavy-quark pairs. We show that significantly higher pro…
The ee$\in$MC generator package is extended to include $e^{+}e^{-} \to Hadrons (nγ)$ events where the photons can be generated in either the initial-state or final-state production. In particular, the $e^{+}e^{-} \to π^{+}π^{-} (nγ)$, $e^{+}e^{-} \to Υ(4s) (mγ) \to B^{+}B^{-} (nγ)$ and $e^{+}e^{-} \to Υ(4s) (mγ) \to B^{0}\bar{B}^{-} (nγ)$ decay channels have been implemented in the generator. The B-mesons are not decayed in ee$\in$MC, but are left for other generators that specialized in B-mesons. Both the initial-state-radiation and final-state-radiation are simulated using the Yennie-Frautsc…
Hadronization is a complex quantum process whereby quarks and gluons become hadrons. The widely-used models of hadronization in event generators are based on physically-inspired phenomenological models with many free parameters. We propose an alternative approach whereby neural networks are used instead. Deep generative models are highly flexible, differentiable, and compatible with Graphical Processing Unit (GPUs). We make the first step towards a data-driven machine learning-based hadronization model by replacing a compont of the hadronization model within the Herwig event generator (cluster…
We first present the implementation and validation of the SuSAv2-MEC 1p1h and 2p2h models in the GENIE neutrino-nucleus interaction event generator and a comparison of the subsequent predictions to measurements of lepton and hadron kinematics from the T2K experiment. These predictions are also compared to those of other available models in GENIE. We additionally compare the semi-inclusive predictions of the implemented 1p1h model to those of the microscopic model on which SuSAv2 is based - Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) - to begin to test the validity of widely-used `factorisation' assumptions …
CASCADE is a full hadron level Monte Carlo event generator for ep, γp and p\bar{p} and pp processes, which uses the CCFM evolution equation for the initial state cascade in a backward evolution approach supplemented with off - shell matrix elements for the hard scattering. A detailed program description is given, with emphasis on parameters the user wants to change and variables which completely specify the generated events.

We describe a Monte Carlo event generator for the production and decay of first and second string resonances through 2 $\rightarrow$ 2 partonic and also 2-parton $\rightarrow$ $γ$-parton scatterings in proton-proton collisions - STRINGS version 1.00. This generator is also capable of producing QCD diparton processes. STRINGS is written in Python 2 and can be interfaced to common hadronization programs using the Les Houches Accord.
We discuss hadron production in the forward rapidity region in ultraperipheral proton-lead collisions at the LHC and proton-gold collisions at RHIC. Our discussion is based on the Monte Carlo simulations of the interactions of virtual photons emitted by a fast moving nucleus with a proton beam. We simulate the virtual photon flux with the STARLIGHT event generator and then particle production with the SOPHIA, DPMJET, and PYTHIA event generators. We show the rapidity distributions of charged and neutral particles, and the momentum distributions of neutral pions and neutrons at forward rapiditie…
An event generation framework is presented that enables the automatic simulation of events for next-generation neutrino experiments in the Standard Model or extensions thereof. The new generator combines the calculation of the leptonic current based on an automated matrix element generator, and the computation of the hadronic current based on a state-of-the-art nuclear physics model. The approach is validated in Standard-Model simulations for electron scattering and neutrino scattering. Furthermore, the first fully-differential neutrino trident production results are shown in the quasielastic …
