The synchronization transition of correlated ensembles of coupled Kuramoto oscillators on sparse random networks is investigated. Extensive numerical simulations show that correlations between the native frequencies of adjacent oscillators on the network systematically shift the critical point as well as the critical exponents characterizing the transition. Negative correlations imply an onset of synchronization for smaller coupling, whereas positive correlations shift the critical coupling towards larger interaction strengths. For negatively correlated oscillators the transition still exhibits critical behaviour similar to the all-to-all coupled Kuramoto system, while positive correlations change the universality class of the transition depending on the correlation strength. Crucially, the paper demonstrates that the synchronization behaviour is not only determined by the coupling architecture, but is also strongly influenced by the oscillator placement on the coupling network.
The synchronization properties of two self-sustained quantum oscillators are studied in the Wigner representation. Instead of considering the quantum limit of the quantum van-der-Pol master equation we derive the quantum master equation directly from a suitable Hamiltonian. Moreover, the oscillators are coupled in incorporating an additional phase factor which shows up in the mutual correlations.
Two non-harmonic canonical-dissipative limit cycle oscillators are considered that oscillate in one-dimensional Smorodinsky-Winternitz potentials. It is shown that the standard approach of the canonical-dissipative framework to introduce dissipative forces leads naturally to a coupling force between the oscillators that establishes synchronization. The non-harmonic character of the limit cycles in the context of anchoring, the phase difference between the synchronized oscillators, and the degree of synchronization are studied in detail.
A solvable model of noise effects on globally coupled limit cycle oscillators is proposed. The oscillators are under the influence of independent and additive white Gaussian noise. The averaged motion equation of the system with infinitely coupled oscillators is derived without any approximation through an analysis based on the nonlinear Fokker--Planck equation. Chaotic synchronization associated with the appearance of macroscopic chaotic behavior is shown by investigating the changes in averaged motion with increasing noise intensity.
Synchronization of coupled oscillators is a ubiquitous phenomenon found throughout nature. Its robust realization is crucial to our understanding of various nonlinear systems, ranging from biological functions to electrical engineering. On another front, in condensed matter physics, topology is utilized to realize robust properties like topological edge modes, as demonstrated by celebrated topological insulators. Here, we integrate these two research avenues and propose a nonlinear topological phenomenon, namely topological synchronization, where only the edge oscillators synchronize while the…
A model of coupled molecular oscillators is proposed to study nonequilibrium thermodynamics of synchronization. We find that synchronization of nonequilibrium oscillators costs energy even when the oscillator-oscillator coupling is conservative. By solving the steady state of the many-body system analytically, we show that the system goes through a nonequilibrium phase transition driven by energy dissipation, and the critical energy dissipation depends on both the frequency and strength of the exchange reactions. Moreover, our study reveals the optimal design for achieving maximum synchronizat…
