Previous studies have indicated that the near-side peak of high-$p_T$ triggered correlations can be decomposed into two parts, the \textit{Jet} and the \textit{Ridge}. We present data on the yield per trigger of the \textit{Jet} and the \textit{Ridge} from $d+Au$, $Cu+Cu$ and $Au+Au$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 62.4 GeV and 200 GeV and compare data on the \textit{Jet} to PYTHIA 8.1 simulations for $p+p$. PYTHIA describes the \textit{Jet} component up to a scaling factor, meaning that PYTHIA can provide a better understanding of the \textit{Ridge} by giving insight into the effects of the kinematic cuts. We present collision energy and system dependence of the \textit{Ridge} yield, which should help distinguish models for the production mechanism of the \textit{Ridge}.
Why the xE distribution triggered by a leading particle does not measure the fragmentation function but does measure the ratio of the transverse momenta of the away-side jet to the trigger-side jet
As a colorless probe, direct photons balance the $p_T$ of the away-side jet at leading order. Direct photon-hadron correlations are thus an excellent probe for nuclear structure and QCD effects, including parton energy loss in the Quark-Gluon Plasma. PHENIX has measured $π^{0}$ and direct photon-triggered two-particle azimuthal correlations in a variety of collision systems ranging from $p$$+$$p$ to Au+Au at 200 GeV. In $p$$+$Au and $d$$+$Au collisions, no modification of the per-trigger jet yield or away-side correlation width compared to $p$$+$$p$ collisions is observed for direct photon tri…
A collision system scan involving $α$-clustered $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O is studied by using a multiphase transport model for central collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 6.37$ TeV. Background subtracted away-side dihadron azimuthal correlation is performed via the zero yield at minimum (ZYAM) method from raw signals, and the quantitative parameters, such as RMS width and Kurtosis, seem nicely follow the $A^{-1/3}$ law of the system size if the nucleus has the normal Woods-Saxon nucleon distribution. However, for $α$-clustering light nuclei, specifically for $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O, the RMS width and Kur…
The almost hermetic coverage of the CMS detector is used to measure the distribution of transverse energy, $E_\mathrm{T}$, over 13.2 units of pseudorapidity, $η$, for pPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}} =$ 5.02 TeV. The huge angular acceptance exploits the fact that the CASTOR calorimeter at $-6.6$ $<$ $η$ $<$ $-5.2$ is effectively present on both sides of the colliding system because of a switch in the proton-going and lead-going beam directions. This wide acceptance enables the study of correlations between well-separated angular regions and ma…
We argue that gluon saturation effects may be visible in Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data. We look at the centrality dependence of the away-side peak of two-particle correlations measured in p-Pb collisions, using both ALICE data at midrapidity, and LHCb data at forward rapidity. Once the collective flow-like signal measured at the near-side peak is removed from the correlation function, the centrality dependence of the away-side peak turns out to be much stronger in the forward region than at midrapidity. We argue that this is a very specific prediction of the saturation framework, and we com…
