Theories with extra dimensions have gained much interest in recent years as candidates for a possible extension of the SM. The observation of large extra dimensions through real graviton emission is one of the most popular related new phenomena. The main experimental signatures from graviton emission are production of single jet and single photon events, which have been studied in great detail. This work describes the implementation of graviton production together with either a Z or a photon in Pythia 8. The potential of using Z plus graviton production at the LHC as a complementary channel is also studied. For completeness, this work also includes the more recently proposed scenario of unparticle emission, since the effective theory of unparticles to some extent represents a generalization of the large extra dimension model.

Real Emission and Virtual Exchange of Gravitons and Unparticles in Pythia8

Models with large extra dimensions as well as unparticle models could give rise to new phenomena at collider experiments due to real emission or virtual exchange of gravitons or unparticles. Higgs Boson Decays into Single Photon plus Unparticle

The decay of the standard model Higgs boson into a single photon and a vector unparticle through a one-loop process is studied. For an intermediate mass Higgs boson, this single photon plus unparticle mode can have a branching ratio comparable with the two-photon discovery mode. The emitted photon has a continuous energy spectrum encoding the nature of the recoil unparticle. It can be measured in precision studies of the Higgs boson after its discovery.

Decay of Z Boson into Photon and Unparticle

We study the decay of the standard model Z boson into unparticle plus a single photon through a one-loop process. As in the anomaly type decay, only the axial-vector part of the Z coupling matching with the vector unparticle and/or the vector part of the Z coupling matching with the axial-vector unparticle can give a nonzero contribution to the decay. We show that the photon spectrum terminates at the end point in accord with Yang's theorem. Existing data on single photon production at LEP I is used to constrain the unparticle sector.

NLO QCD corrections to diphoton plus jet production through graviton exchange

We present the NLO QCD corrections to the production of a photon pair in association with one jet, where the photons are stemming from graviton decay, within models of large extra dimensions. Our results for the loop amplitudes are produced with the program GOSAM for automated one-loop calculations. We show distributions for several observables for 4, 5 and 6 extra dimensions and demonstrate that the differential K-factors are far from being uniform.

Graviton plus vector boson production to NLO in QCD at the LHC

We present the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the associated production of the vector gauge boson ($Z/W^\pm$) and the graviton in the large extra dimension model at the LHC. We estimate the impact of the QCD corrections on the total cross sections as well as the differential distributions of the gauge bosons and find that they are significant. We also study the dependence of the cross sections on the arbitrary factorization scale and show the reduction in the scale uncertainties at NLO level. Further, we discuss the ultraviolet sensitivity of the theoretical predictions.

Z boson decay to photon plus Kaluza-Klein graviton in large extra dimensions

In the large extra dimensional ADD scenario, Z bosons undergo a one-loop decay into a photon and Kaluza-Klein towers of gravitons/gravi-scalars. We calculate such a decay width, extending previous arguments about the general form of the four-dimensional on-shell amplitude. Theories with compact extra spatial dimensions felt only by gravity are subject to direct experimental tests if the compactification volume is large. Estimates of high-energy collider observables induced by graviton radiation into extra dimensions are usually given assuming rigid branes. This may overestimate the accessibility of these theories. Z boson decay to photon plus Kaluza-Klein graviton: large extra dimensional bounds

We consider the phenomenology of the decay of a Z boson into a photon and a Kaluza-Klein excitation of the graviton in the ADD model. Using LEP data, we obtain an upper bound on the branching ratio corresponding to this process of ~10^-11. We also investigate energy profiles of the process.

NLO QCD corrections to graviton production at hadron colliders

Models with large extra dimensions predict the existence of Kaluza-Klein graviton resonances. We compute the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to graviton plus jet hadro-production, which is an important channel for graviton searches at the Tevatron and the LHC. The QCD corrections are sizable and lead to a significant reduction of the scale dependence. We present numerical results for cross sections and distributions, and discuss the uncertainty from parton distribution functions and the ultraviolet sensitivity of the theoretical prediction.

Graviton production with 2 jets at the LHC in large extra dimensions

We study Kaluza-Klein (KK) graviton production in the large extra dimensions model via 2 jets plus missing transverse momentum signatures at the LHC. We make predictions for both the signal and the dominant Zjj and Wjj backgrounds, where we introduce missing P_T-dependent jet selection cuts that ensure the smallness of the 2-jet rate over the 1-jet rate. With the same jet selection cuts, the distributions of the two jets and their correlation with the missing transverse momentum provide additional evidence for the production of an invisible massive object.

Quarkonium decay into photon plus graviton: a golden channel to discriminate General Relativity from Massive Gravity?

After the recent historical discovery of gravitational wave, it is curious to speculate upon the detection prospect of the quantum graviton in the terrestrial accelerator-based experiment. We carefully investigate the "golden" channels, $J/ψ(Υ)\toγ+\text{graviton}$, which can be pursued at \textsf{BESIII} and \textsf{Belle 2} experiments, by searching for single-photon plus missing energy events. Drell-Yan plus missing energy as a signal for extra dimensions

We explore the search sensitivity for signals of large extra dimensions at hadron colliders via the Drell-Yan process pp -> l+ l- + E_T(miss) X (l = e,mu) where the missing transverse energy is the result of escaping Kaluza-Klein gravitons. We find that one is able to place exclusion limits on the gravity scale up to 560 GeV at the Fermilab Tevatron, and to 4.0 (3.3) TeV at the CERN LHC, for n = 3 (4) extra dimensions.

Fat Brane Phenomena

Gravitons could permeate extra space dimensions inaccessible to all other particles, which would be confined to ``branes''. We point out that these branes could be ``fat'' and have a non-vanishing width in the dimensions reserved for gravitons. In this case the other particles, confined within a finite width, should have ``branon'' excitations. Chiral fermions behave differently from bosons under dimensional reduction, and they may --or may not-- be more localized than bosons. Quantum Gravity and Extra Dimensions at High-Energy Colliders

Recently it has been pointed out that the characteristic quantum-gravity scale could be as low as the weak scale in theories with gravity propagating in higher dimensions. The observed smallness of Newton's constant is a consequence of the large compactified volume of the extra dimensions. We investigate the consequences of this supposition for high-energy collider experiments. Extra dimensions vs. supersymmetric interpretation of missing energy events at a linear collider

The photon plus missing energy signature is a primary handle on two important classes of theories. Theories with large extra dimensions predict the production of photons in association with Kaluza-Klein excitations of the graviton. In supersymmetric theories with superlight gravitinos, photons can be produced in association with gravitino pairs. In the universal extra dimensions (UED) scenario, the tree level masses of the first level Kaluza-Klein (KK) excitations of Standard Model particles are essentially degenerate. Untangling the spin of a dark boson in $Z$ decays

We analyze the $Z$-boson decay $Z\to γ\, X$ into a photon ($γ$) plus a hypothetical light boson ($X$) belonging to a dark or secluded sector. Due to its feeble interactions with Standard Model fields, this dark boson is behaving as missing energy in the detector. We consider for $X$ the cases of spin-1 (massless dark-photon), spin-0 (axion-like), and spin-2 (graviton-like) particles and explore the way to untangle its spin origin. Suppression of High-P_T Jets as a Signal for Large Extra Dimensions and New Estimates of Lifetimes for Meta stable Micro Black Holes -From the Early Universe to Future Colliders

We address the production of black holes at LHC in space times with compactified space-like large extra dimensions (LXD). Final state black hole production leads to suppression of high-P_T jets, i.e. a sharp cut-off in the cross section for pp->jet+X. Extra dimensions and Strong Neutrino-Nucleon interactions above $10^{19}$ eV : Breaking the GZK Barrier

Cosmic ray events above $10^{20}$ eV are on the verge of confronting fundamental particle physics. The neutrino is the only candidate primary among established particles capable of crossing 100 Mpc intergalactic distances unimpeded. The magnitude of $νN$ cross sections indicated by events, plus consistency with the Standard Model at low-energy, point to new physics of massive spin-2 exchange.
