We investigate the azimuthal asymmetry v2 of produced pions in pp and pA collisions at both RHIC and SPS energies. In our approach, based on the pQCD parton model and the light-cone QCD-dipole formalism, the azimuthal asymmetry results from a correlation between the color-dipole orientation and the impact parameter of the collision. We introduce the color-dipole orientation within an improved Born approximation and the saturation model which satisfies available DIS data, showing that the azimuthal asymmetry of partons and pions is very sensitive to the choice of the model, and that it is reduced in the saturation model. We find that v2 of quarks and gluons in parton-nucleus collisions have very different patterns. The azimuthal asymmetry of gluons in gluon-nucleus collisions can be negative at small transverse momentum, changes the sign and becomes positive at high transverse momentum. The azimuthal asymmetry of quarks in quark-nucleus collisions is positive at all values of transverse momentum. We find that the azimuthal anisotropy v2 of produced pions in both pp and pA collisions is positive, albeit rather small.
The azimuthal elliptic asymmetry v2 observed in heavy ion collisions, is usually associated with properties of the medium created in the final state. We compute the azimuthal asymmetry which is due to multiple interactions of partons at the initial stage of nuclear collisions, and which is also present in $pA$ collisions. In our approach the main source of azimuthal asymmetry is the combination of parton multiple interactions with the steep variation of the nuclear density at the edge of nuclei. We apply the light-cone dipole formalism to compute the azimuthal asymmetry of prompt photons yield…
The azimuthal pattern of transverse energy flow in nuclear collisions at RHIC and LHC energies is considered. We show that the probability distribution of the event-by-event azimuthal disbalance in transverse energy flow is essentially sensitive to the presence of the semihard minijet component.
The azimuthal asymmetry of $J/ψ$ suppression in non-central heavy-ion collisions is studied within a dynamic model of $J/ψ$ suppression in a deconfined partonic medium. Within this model, $J/ψ$ suppression in heavy-ion collisions is caused mainly by the initial state nuclear absorption and dissociation via gluon-$J/ψ$ scattering in deconfined partonic medium. Only the second mechanism gives arise to azimuthal asymmetry of the final $J/ψ$ production. We demonstrate that if there is an onset of suppression by quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in the NA50 data, it must be accompanied by the non-vanishing …
Rapid 3+1D transverse plus Bjorken collective expansion in $A+A$ collisions at ultra-relativistic energies is shown to reduce substantially the azimuthal asymmetry resulting from jet quenching. While the azimuthal asymmetry in non-central collisions, $v_2(p_T>2 \rm{GeV/c})\sim 0.15$ reported by STAR at RHIC, can be accounted for by spatially anisotropic jet energy loss through a 1+1D expanding gluon plasma with $dN^g/dy\sim 1000$, we show that if rapid transverse collective expansion of the plasma is assumed, then the asymmetry due to jet quenching may be reduced below the observed level. Poss…
The azimuthal anisotropy of high-pt particle production in non-central heavy ion collisions is among the most promising observables of partonic energy loss in an azimuthally non-symmetric volume of quark-gluon plasma. We discuss the implications of nuclear geometry for the models of partonic energy loss in the context of recent RHIC data and consequences for observation of jet quenching at the LHC.
The high $p_{\rm T}>3$ GeV azimuthal asymmetry, $v_2(p_{\rm T})$, in non-central nuclear collisions at RHIC is shown to be a sensitive measure of the initial parton density distribution of the produced quark-gluon plasma. A generalization of the Gyulassy-Levai-Vitev (GLV) non-abelian energy loss formalism including Bjorken 1+1D expansion as well as important kinematic constraints is used.
We show that a sizeable azimuthal asymmetry, characterized by a coefficient v_2, is to be expected for direct photons produced in non-central high energy nuclear collisions. This signal is generated by photons radiated by jets interacting with the surrounding hot plasma. The anisotropy is out of phase by an angle $π/2$ with respect to that associated with the elliptic anisotropy of hadrons, leading to negative values of v_2. Such an asymmetry, if observed, could be a signature for the presence of a quark gluon plasma and would establish the importance of jet-plasma interactions as a source of …
In this article, we investigate the $\cos2ϕ_t$ azimuthal asymmetry in $e ~p\rightarrow e ~J/ψ~Jet~ X$, where the $J/ψ$-jet pair is almost back-to-back in the transverse plane, within the framework of the generalized parton model(GPM). We use non-relativistic QCD(NRQCD) to calculate the $J/ψ$ production amplitude and incorporate both color singlet(CS) and color octet(CO) contributions to the asymmetry. We estimate the asymmetry using different parameterizations of the gluon TMDs in the kinematics that can be accessed at the future electron-ion collider (EIC) and also investigate the impact of t…
Intensity interferometry in noncentral heavy ion collisions provides access to novel information on the geometry of the effective pion-emitting source. We demonstrate analytically that, even for vanishing pair momentum, the cross terms $R_{ol}^2$ and $R_{sl}^2$ of the HBT correlation function in general show a strong first harmonic in their azimuthal dependence. The strength of this oscillation characterizes the tilt of the major axis of the spatial emission ellipsoid away from the direction of the beam. Event generator studies indicate that this tilt can be large (>20 degrees) at AGS energies…
In this paper, we investigate the influence of coherent pion emission on long-range azimuthal correlations in relativistic proton-proton collisions. We study the pion momentum distribution for a coherent source with both transverse and Bjorken longitudinal expansions, and calculate the two-particle correlation function $C(Δη,Δϕ)$. A "ridge" structure is observed in the correlation function $C(Δη,Δϕ)$ of the coherent pion emission, whether the coherent source is expanding or static. The onset of this long-range azimuthal correlation can be traced back to the asymmetric initial transverse profil…
We calculate the differential cross section for the unpolarized semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering (SIDIS) process $e^-+N \to e^-+q+X$ in leading order (LO) of perturbative QCD and up to twist-4 in power corrections and study in particular the azimuthal asymmetry $<cos2ϕ>$. The final results are expressed in terms of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton matrix elements of the target nucleon up to twist-4. %Under the maximal two-gluon correlation approximation, these TMD parton matrix elements in a nucleus %can be expressed terms of a Gaussian convolution of that in a nucleon with…
We investigate the impact parameter dependence of the $\cos 4ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry for electromagnetic lepton pair production in heavy ion collisions. The asymmetry induced by linearly polarized coherent photons exhibits strong impact parameter dependence.
The leading and sub-leading order results for pion electroproduction in polarized and unpolarized semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering, are considered putting emphasis on transverse momentum dependent effects appearing in azimuthal asymmetries. In particular the spin-dependent (single, double) and spin-independent asymmetries of the distributions in the azimuthal angle of the pion related to the lepton scattering plane are discussed.
We argue that the large instanton induced Pauli form factor in polarized proton-proton scattering may cause, through topological fluctuations, substantial charge-dependent azimuthal correlations for pi^+/pi^- production in peripheral heavy ion collisions both at RHIC and LHC, thanks to the large induced magnetic field. Our results compare favorably to the measured pion azimuthal correlations by the STAR and ALICE collaborations.
The energy loss parameter $\hat q$ is one of the fundamental transport parameters of hadronic matter. Using the twist-4 collinear approach, we show that the $\cos ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry in unpolarized semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering (SIDIS) off a large nucleus at intermediate transverse momentum is a sensitive observable for its determination. The effect is due to the suppression of the azimuthal asymmetry by final-state multiple scattering.
We investigate the $sin ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry in the semi-inclusive deep-inelastic lepton scattering off longitudinally polarized nucleon target arising from the time reversal odd structures. The order 1/Q contributions of the leading twist and twist-three distribution and fragmentation functions to that asymmetry for the certain kinematical conditions are numerically estimated.
The nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}$ for $π_0$ production in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ AGeV is calculated, and studied at high transverse momenta $p_T$. The soft thermalized nuclear medium is described within the framework of relativistic ideal three-dimensional hydrodynamics. The energy loss of partonic jets is evaluated in the context of gluon bremsstrahlung in the thermalized partonic matter. We provide a systematic analysis of the azimuthal asymmetry of $π_0$ suppression at high $p_T$ in central and non-central collisions, at mid and forward rapidity. The determination of $R_{…
We calculate the $\cos2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry of the unpolarized $p\bar{p}$ Drell-Yan dilepton production process in the $Z$-resonance region at the Tevatron kinematic domain. Such an azimuthal asymmetry can provide additional information about a spin-related new parton distribution function, i.e., the Boer-Mulders function of the proton, compared to the $pp$ process. Therefore the available data of unpolarized proton-antiproton collision at Tevatron can contribute to our study on the spin structure of the nucleon.
We study the azimuthal asymmetry of the unpolarized Drell-Yan in the framework of the T-odd functions. We find, on the basis of quite general arguments, that for |{\bf q}_{\perp}| << Q such an asymmetry decreases as Q^{-2}, where {\bf q}_{\perp} and Q are respectively the transverse momentum and the center-of-mass energy of the muon pair. The experimental results support this conclusion.
The azimuthal distributions around the jet axis of leading pions produced in the jet fragmentation process in pp collisions are studied within the framework of the so-called generalized parton model. The observable leading-twist azimuthal asymmetries are estimated in kinematic configurations presently investigated at RHIC. It is shown how the main contributions coming from the Collins and Sivers effects can be disentangled. In addition, a test of the process dependence of the Sivers function is provided.
Hard photon emitted from energetic heavy ion collisions is of very interesting since it does not experience the late-stage nuclear interaction, therefore it is useful to explore the early-stage information of matter phase. In this work, we have presented a first calculation of azimuthal asymmetry, characterized by directed transverse flow parameter $F$ and elliptic asymmetry coefficient $v_2$, for proton-neutron bremsstrahlung hard photons in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions. The positive $F$ and negative $v_2$ of direct photons are illustrated and they seem to be anti-correlated to th…
We correct our analysis of the HERMES experiment for the azimuthal sin(phi)-spin asymmetry in semi-inclusive hadroproduction in DIS on longitudinally (with respect to the lepton momentum) polarized target because of discovered misprint in sign in the paper P.J.Mulders and R.D.Tangerman, Nucl. Phys. B 461 (1996) 197.
Within the framework of a generalized factorization, semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering (SIDIS) cross sections can be expressed as a series of products of collinear hard parts and transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) parton distributions and correlations. The azimuthal asymmetry <cosϕ>$ of unpolarized SIDIS in the small transverse momentum region will depend on both twist-2 and 3 TMD quark distributions in target nucleons or nuclei. Nuclear broadening of these twist-2 and 3 quark distributions due to final-state multiple scattering in nuclei is investigated and the nuclear dependence of…
Predictions are made for azimuthal asymmetries in pion and kaon production from SIDIS off a longitudinally polarized deuterium target for HERMES kinematics, based on information on the 'Collins fragmentation function' from DELPHI data and on predictions for the transversity distribution function from non-perturbative calculations in the chiral quark-soliton model. There are no free parameters in the approach, which has been already successfully applied to explain the azimuthal asymmetries from SIDIS off polarized proton targets observed by HERMES and SMC.
We calculate the Boer-Mulders effect contribution to the $\cos2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry of unpolarized dilepton production near the $Z$-pole. Based on the tree-level expression in the transverse momentum dependent factorization framework, we show that the corresponding asymmetry near the $Z$-pole is negative, which is opposite to the asymmetry in the low $Q^2$ region, dominated by the production via a virtual photon. We calculate the asymmetry generated by the Boer-Mulders effect near the $Z$-pole at RHIC, with $\sqrt{s}=500$ GeV. We find that the magnitude of the asymmetry is several percent, a…
We show that the transverse momentum dependent transversity function is proportional to the longitudinal polarization of a quark in a transversely polarized proton. This result suggests an alternative, convenient method for determining transversity, without knowing unusual fragmentation functions. The method consists of measuring the double spin azimuthal asymmetry in semi-inclusive pion leptoproduction by a transversely polarized proton target. The asymmetry, which is twist 3, is estimated to be more than 10% under the most favorable conditions. The experiment we suggest is feasible at facili…
By using the soft pion theorem in the inclusive reactions, soft pions' contribution to the structure function $F_2$ in the nucleon is estimated. It is shown that this contribution produces such a large flavor asymmetry in the light sea quark distributions that it gives about $30\sim 50 %$ of the NMC deficit in the Gottfried sum.
Recently HERMES has observed an azimuthal asymmetry in electro-production of neutral pions in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering of unpolarized positrons off longitudinally polarized protons. This asymmetry (like those observed in the production of charged pions) is well reproduced theoretically by using the non-perturbative calculation of the proton transversity distribution in the effective chiral quark-soliton model combined with experimental DELPHI-data on the new T-odd Collins fragmentation function. There are no free, adjustable parameters in the analysis. Using the $z$-dependence …
We propose a new method of the determination of $R^{D}=σ_{L}^{D}/σ_{T}^{D}$ from the dependence of the diffractive cross section on the azimuthal angle between the electron scattering and proton scattering planes. The method is based on our finding of the model independence of the ratio of the $LT$ interference and transverse diffractive structure functions. The predicted azimuthal asymmetry is substantial and can be measured at HERA. We show that the accuracy of our reconstruction of $R^{D}$ is adequate for a reliable test of an important pQCD prediction of $R^{D}\gsim 1$ for large $β$.
We study the $\sin2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry in the $πN$ Drell-Yan process, when the nucleon is longitudinally polarized. The asymmetry is contributed by the combination of the Boer-Mulders function and the longitudinal transversity distribution function. We consider the Drell-Yan processes by $π^\pm$ beams colliding on the proton and deuteron targets, respectively. We calculate the $\sin2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetries in these processes using the Boer-Mulders function and the longitudinal transversity from spectator models. We show that the study on single polarized $πN$ Drell-Yan processes can not on…
Experiment E158 at SLAC can measure an azimuthal asymmetry in single-spin, transversely polarized Moller scattering, e^{-\uparrow} e^- -> e^- e^-, which arises from a QED rescattering phase. We recompute the leading-order (one-loop) asymmetry, confirming previous results, and calculate the leading logarithmic QED corrections due to initial-state radiation from the beam and target electrons, and due to final-state radiation. The size of these radiative corrections is quite sensitive to experimental details, such as the acceptance in energy and in polar angle of the scattered electron. For E158,…
Using the Coulomb Eikonal Phase associated with a transversely polarized nucleon, we calculate the azimuthal single spin asymmetry of unpolarized electrons elastically scattered from a transversely polarized nucleon target. The azimuthal asymmetry in this case is attributed to the fact that in a transversely polarized nucleon, the transverse charge density is no longer axially symmetric and is distorted due to the transverse spin of the nucleon. This asymmetry in the nucleon charge density causes a left-right asymmetry in the azimuthal distribution of the scattered electrons. In our approach, …
Azimuthal spin asymmetries, both for charged and neutral pion production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering of unpolarized charged lepton beams on longitudinally and transversely polarized nucleon targets, are analyzed and calculated. Various assumptions and approximations in the quark distributions and fragmentation functions often used in these calculations are studied in detail. It is found that different approaches to the distribution and fragmentation functions may lead to quite different predictions on the azimuthal asymmetries measured in the HERMES experiments, thus their effe…
Using a generalized parton model approach including spin and intrinsic parton motion effects, and assuming the validity of factorization for large pT jet production in hadronic collisions, we study the azimuthal distribution around the jet axis of leading pions, produced in the jet fragmentation process. We identify the observable leading-twist azimuthal asymmetries, which are generated by all the physically allowed combinations of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution and fragmentation functions. In particular, we show how one can isolate the Collins and Sivers contributions…
We derive a general framework for describing semi-inclusive deep-inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering in terms of the unintegrated parton distributions and other higher twist parton correlations. Such a framework provides a consistent approach to the calculation of inclusive and semi-inclusive cross sections including higher twist effects. As an example, we calculate the azimuthal asymmetries to the order of 1/Q in semi-inclusive process with transversely polarized target. A non-vanishing single-spin asymmetry in the ``triggered inclusive process'' is predicted to be 1/Q suppressed with a part …
We present the QCD predictions for the azimuthal $\cos 2φ$ asymmetry in charm leptoproduction for the kinematics of the COMPASS experiment at CERN. The asymmetry is predicted to be large, about 15%. The radiative corrections to the QCD predictions for the $\cos 2φ$ distribution are estimated to be small, less than 10%. Our calculations show that the azimuthal asymmetry in charm production is well defined in pQCD: it is stable both perturbatively and parametrically, and practically insensitive to theoretical uncertainties in the input parameters. We analyze the nonperturbative contributions to …
The origin of Lam-Tung relation for the angular asymmetry of Drell-Yan dileptons is analyzed. The asymmetry constrained by this relation is shown to belongto the class of kinematic azimuthal asymmetries, emerging due to the deviation of the reference axis from the natural physical one. The validity and violation of Lam-Tung relation due to radiative and power QCD corrections is discussed. The relation is generalized to the case when the virtual photon is not the transverse oneand the possible applications are suggested.
We study two experimental ways to measure the heavy-quark content of the proton: using the Callan-Gross ratio $R(x,Q^2)=F_L/F_T$ and/or azimuthal $\cos(2φ)$ asymmetry in deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering. Our approach is based on the perturbative stability of the QCD predictions for these two quantities. We resume the mass logarithms of the type $α_{s}\ln\left( Q^{2}/m^{2}\right)$ and conclude that heavy-quark densities in the nucleon can, in principle, be determined from data on the Callan-Gross ratio and/or azimuthal asymmetry. In particular, the charm content of the proton can be mea…
We present a compact form of the leptonic currents for the computation of the processes involving an initial virtual boson (photon, $W^{\pm}$ or $Z_0$). For deeply inelastic scattering, once the azimuthal angle of the plane expanded by the initial- and final-state leptons are integrated over in the boson-proton rest frame, the azimuthal-asymmetric terms vanish, which, however, is NOT true when some physical quantities (such as the transverse momentum of the observed particle) are specified in laboratory frame. The abuse of the symmetry may lead to wrong results.
We evaluate the azimuthal asymmetries for the distributions of leading pions inside a jet, produced in high-energy proton-proton collisions, in kinematic configurations currently under active investigation at RHIC. Adopting a transverse momentum dependent approach, which assumes the validity of a perturbative QCD factorization scheme and takes into account all the spin and intrinsic parton motion effects, we show how the main mechanisms underlying these asymmetries, namely the Sivers and the Collins effects, can be disentangled. Furthermore, we consider the impact of color-gauge invariant init…
We study the azimuthal asymmetry in the Drell-Yan lepton pair production in hadronic scattering processes at moderate transverse momentum region, taking into account the contributions from the twist-three quark-gluon correlations from the unpolarized hadrons. The contributions are found to dominate the asymmetry, and are not power suppressed by q_\perp/Q at small q_\perp where q_\perp and Q are the transverse momentum and invariant mass of the lepton pair. Accordingly, the Lam-Tung relation will be violated at this momentum region, and its violation depends on the twist-three functions. Howeve…
We investigate the impact of soft gluon resummation on the azimuthal angle correlation between the total and relative momenta of two energetic final state particles (jets). We show that the initial and final state radiations induce sizable $\cos(ϕ)$ and $\cos (2ϕ)$ asymmetries in single jet and dijet events, respectively. We numerically evaluate the magnitude of these asymmetries for a number of processes in collider experiments, including diffractive dijet and dilepton production in ultraperipheral $pA$ and $AA$ collisions, inclusive and diffractive dijet production at the EIC and inclusive d…
We consider the azimuthal asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep inelastic leptoproduction arising due to both perturbative and nonperturbative effects at HERMES energies and show that the $k_T^2/Q^2$ order corrections to $< \cosϕ>$ and $< \cos2ϕ>$ are significant. We also reconsider the results of perturbative effects for $< \cosϕ>$ at large momentum transfers \cite{A1} using the more recent sets of scale-dependent distribution and fragmentation functions, which bring up to $18{%}$ difference in $< \cosϕ>$. In the same approach we calculate the $< \cos2ϕ>$ as well.
Theoretically there are two approaches to predict single spin azimuthal asymmetries. One is to take transverse momenta of partons into account by using transverse momentum dependent parton distributions, while another is to take asymmetries as a twist-3 effect. The nonperturbative effects in these approaches are parameterized with different matrix elements and predictions can be different. Recently, gauge invariant definitions of transverse momentum dependent parton distributions were derived. With these definitions it can be shown that there are relations between nonperturbative matrix elemen…
Using the soft pion theorem in the inclusive reactions, we estimate the soft pion contribution to the structure functions $F_2$ and $g_1$ in the nucleon, and show that it is an indispensable part in these structure functions in the small $x$ region. This contribution is asymmetric for the soft $π^+$ and $π^-$ due to pole terms in the soft pion limit, hence it is a remnant of the spontaneous chiral symmetry breakings. Then we show that the modified strange sea quark where the soft pion contribution is added to the distribution determined by the ansatz (strange-sea)=(up-sea + down-sea)/4 satisfi…
A short summary of results of recent simulations of (un)polarized Drell-Yan experiments is presented here. Dilepton production in $pp$, $\bar{p}p$, $π^-p$ and $π^+p$ scattering is considered, for several kinematics corresponding to interesting regions for experiments at GSI, CERN-Compass and RHIC. A table of integrated cross sections, and a set of estimated error bars on measurements of azimuthal asymmetries (associated with collection of 5, 20 or 80 Kevents) are reported.
We study the $\cos{ϕ_h}$ azimuthal asymmetry in double polarized semi-inclusive pion production by considering dynamical twist-3 effects. In particular, we evaluate the role of the transverse momentum dependent distributions $e_L(x, k_T^2)$ and $g_L^\perp(x, k_T^2)$ on the asymmetry. Using two different sets of spectator model results for these distributions, we predict the $\cos{ϕ_h}$ asymmetry of $π^+$, $π^-$, and $π^0$ at the kinematic configuration available at CLAS, HERMES and COMPASS. Our estimates show that the asymmetries are positive for all the pions and could be accessed by CLAS and…
We derive the complete twist-3 single-spin-dependent cross section for semi-inclusive DIS, $ep^\uparrow\to eπX$, associated with the complete set of the twist-3 quark-gluon correlation functions in the transversely polarized nucleon, extending our previous study. The cross section consists of five independent structure functions with different azimuthal dependences, consistently with the transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) factorization approach in the low $q_T$ region. Correspondence with the inclusive DIS limit and comparison with the TMD approach are briefly discussed.
The distribution of hadrons produced in deeply inelastic electron-proton collisions depends on the azimuthal angle between lepton scattering plane and hadron production plane in the photon-proton centre-of-mass frame. In addition to the well known up-down asymmetry induced by the azimuthal dependence of the Born level subprocess, there is also a non-vanishing left-right asymmetry, provided the incoming electron is polarized. This asymmetry is time-reversal-odd and induced by absorptive corrections to the Born level process. We investigate the numerical magnitude of azimuthal asymmetries in sem…
We discuss recent experimental results from RHIC where the flat transverse momentum dependence of a single-spin asymmetry has been found in inclusive production of neutral pions. This dependence takes place in a wide region of the transverse momenta up to $p_T=10$ GeV/c. We emphasize that similar dependence has been predicted in the nonperturbative spin filtering mechanism for the single-spin asymmetries in hadron interactions and present some implications for this mechanism from the new experimental data.
We analyze the perturbative and parametric stability of the QCD predictions for the Callan-Gross ratio $R(x,Q^2)=F_L/F_T$ and azimuthal $\cos(2φ)$ asymmetry in heavy-quark leptoproduction. Our analysis shows that large radiative corrections to the structure functions cancel each other in their ratio $R(x,Q^2)$ and azimuthal asymmetry with good accuracy. As a result, the NLO contributions to the Callan-Gross ratio and $\cos(2φ)$ asymmetry are less than 10% in a wide region of the variables $x$ and $Q^2$. We provide compact analytic predictions for $R(x,Q^2)$ and asymmetry in the case of low $x\…
Recently it has been argued that the transverse momentum dependent twist-2 Sivers distribution function does not vanish in QCD. Therefore both, the Collins and Sivers effects, should be considered in order to explain the azimuthal single spin asymmetries A(UL) in pion production in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic lepton scattering of a longitudinally polarized target. On the basis of presently available phenomenological information on the Sivers function we estimate that for those asymmetries A(UL) in the kinematic region of the HERMES experiments the Sivers effect can be neglected with respec…
In this paper a scenario with the participation of the exotic scalar S, tensor T and pseudoscalar couplings of the right-handed neutrinos in addition to the standard vector V, axial A couplings of the left-handed neutrinos in the low-energy $(ν_μe^{-})$ and $(ν_{e}e^{-})$ scattering processes is considered. Neutrinos are assumed to be massive Dirac fermions and to be polarized. Both reactions are studied at the level of the four-fermion point interaction. The main goal is to show that the physical consequence of the presence of the right-handed neutrinos is an appearance of the azimuthal asymm…
The azimuthal asymmetry observed by the HERMES collaboration in semi-inclusive pion production in deep inelastic scattering of unpolarized positron on the longitudinally polarized proton target, can provide information of the quark transversity distributions of the nucleon. We show that the quark transversity distributions predicted both by the light-cone quark-spectator-diquark model and by a pQCD inspired model can give consistent descriptions of the available HERMES data for the analyzing powers $A_{UL}^{\sin ϕ}$ and $A_{UL}^{\sin 2 ϕ}$ for $π^+$ and $π^-$ productions. We also show that the…
