A peculiar aspect of the MSSM, the simplest supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, is that it is usually defined including an ad hoc symmetry, R-parity, whose sole purpose is to forbid rapid proton decay. This symmetry deeply alters the phenomenology of the MSSM, and renders the experimental search strategies quite involved. Besides, the MSSM suffers from a number of flavor puzzles. Generically, the superparticle contributions to Flavor Changing Neutral Currents (FCNC) are too large compared to experiment, both in the quark and lepton sectors. The Minimal Flavor Violation (MFV) hypothesis aims at suppressing these contributions, and when enforced as a symmetry principle, achieves this in a very natural and systematic way. In this talk, it will be shown that imposing MFV is not only able to suppress supersymmetric contributions to FCNC, it also naturally explains the apparent stability of the proton. As a result, R-parity can be avoided altogether, motivating the search for supersymmetry through simpler channels, like for example single stop resonant production, whose strength is predicted by MFV.
In a class of supersymmetric left-right models (SUSYLR) of weak interactions where R-parity is automatically conserved, we show that spontaneous breakdown of parity CANNOT occur without spontaneous breakdown of R-parity. This intriguing result connects two physically different scales in supersymmetric models.
We summarized our report on leptonic flavor violating Higgs decay into mu + tau under the scheme of a generic supersymmetric standard model without R parity. With known experimental constraints imposed, important combinations of R-parity violating parameters which can give notable branching ratios are listed.
We construct a renormalizable, supersymmetric theory of flavor and $R$ parity based on the discrete flavor group $(S_3)^3$. The model can account for all the masses and mixing angles of the Standard Model, while maintaining sufficient squark degeneracy to circumvent the supersymmetric flavor problem. By starting with a simpler set of flavor symmetry breaking fields than we have suggested previously, we construct an economical Froggatt-Nielsen sector that generates the desired elements of the fermion Yukawa matrices. With the particle content above the flavor scale completely specified, we show…
Minimal Flavor Violation offers an alternative symmetry rationale to R-parity conservation for the suppression of proton decay in supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model. The naturalness of such theories is generically under less tension from LHC searches than R-parity conserving models. The flavor symmetry can also guarantee the stability of dark matter if it carries flavor quantum numbers. We outline general features of supersymmetric flavored dark matter (SFDM) models within the framework of MFV SUSY. A simple model of top flavored dark matter is presented. If the dark matter is a t…
We show there is a non-null probability to produce neutrinos of the ``wrong'' type in general decays, within the SM augmented by the known three massive neutrinos and nontrivial mixing. Such effect is equivalent to an intrinsic flavor violation (lepton flavor violation) at creation without requiring neutrino propagation. The exact amount of flavor violation depends on the neutrino flavor state to be detected. For realistic conditions, the violation is tiny but much larger than other indirect lepton flavor violation processes not involving neutrinos as final states. For neutrinos produced in a …
I discuss the theoretical motivations for R-parity violation, review the experimental bounds and outline the main changes in collider phenomenology compared to conserved R-parity. I briefly comment on the effects of R-parity violation on cosmology.
Flavor changing neutral current processes are studied in the littlest Higgs model with T-parity. It is found that the logarithmic divergence reported earlier in Z boson flavor changing processes is exactly canceled by contributions from additional interaction terms of heavy fermions and the Z boson. Phenomenological impact on the K --> pi nu nu_bar processes is discussed.
We overview the dark parity violation, which means the parity violation induced by a dark gauge boson of very small mass and coupling. When a dark gauge boson has an axial coupling, as in dark Z model, it can change the effective Weinberg angle in the low-energy experiments such as the atomic parity violation and the low-Q^2 polarized electron scatterings. Such low-energy parity tests are an excellent probe of the dark force.
Electromagnetic resonant cavities form the basis for a number modern tests of Lorentz invariance. The geometry of most of these experiments implies unsuppressed sensitivities to parity-even Lorentz violations only. Parity-odd violations typically enter through suppressed boost effects, causing a reduction in sensitivity by roughly four orders of magnitude. Here we discuss possible techniques for achieving unsuppressed sensitivities to parity-odd violations by using asymmetric resonators.
We investigate the effects of R-parity violation on the semileptonic decays of B-meson in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with explicit R-parity violation and discuss its physical implications. We find that the semileptonic decays of B-meson can be largely affected by the R-parity violation.
We show that in supersymmetric models with explicit flavor lepton number violation due to soft supersymmetry breaking terms there must be flavor lepton number violation in slepton decays. We propose to look for flavor lepton number violation in righthanded selectron and smuon decays. For selectron and smuon lighter than 80 Gev flavor lepton number violation in slepton decays could be discovered at LEP2 provided the mixing betwen selectron and smuon is not small. We also estimate NLC discovery potential of the lepton flavor number violation in slepton decays.
We perform a systematic reevaluation of the constraints on the flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) parameters in R-parity conserving and R-parity violating supersymmetric models. As a typical process, we study the constraints coming from the measurements on the B0-\bar{B0} system on the supersymmetric $δ^d_{13}$ parameters, as well as on the products of the lambda' type R-parity violating couplings. Present data allows us to put constraints on both the real and the imaginary parts of the relevant parameters.
We extend the notion of Minimal Flavor Violation to the lepton sector. We introduce a symmetry principle which allows us to express lepton flavor violation in the charged lepton sector in terms of neutrino masses and mixing angles. We explore the dependence of the rates for flavor changing radiative charged lepton decays (ell(i) -> ell(j) + gamma) and mu-to-e conversion in nuclei on the scales for total lepton number violation, lepton flavor violation and the neutrino masses and mixing angles. Measurable rates are obtained when the scale for total lepton number violation is much larger than th…
We discuss here some flavor structure aspects of the complete theory of supersymmetry without R-parity addressed from the perspective of fitting neutrino oscillation data based on the recent Super-Kamiokande result. The single-VEV parametrization of supersymmetry without R-parity is first reviewed, illustrating some important features not generally appreciated. For the flavor structure discussions, a naive, flavor model independent, analysis is presented, from which a few interesting things can be learned.
We show that in supersymmetric models with explicit flavor lepton number violation due to soft supersymmetry breaking mass terms there could be detectable flavor lepton number violation in slepton decays. We estimate LHC discovery potential of the lepton flavor number violation in slepton decays.
We examine some flavor changing processes such as rare leptonic decays of the long-lived neutral kaon, muon-electron conversion in nuclei and radiative muon decay which are induced by the combined effects of bilinear and trilinear R-parity violations. These processes are used to put strong constraints on certain products of the bilinear and trilinear couplings. We also discuss the constraints on R-parity violation from neutrino masses and compare them with the constraints from flavor changing decay processes. Large range of parameter space satisfying the constraints from neutrino masses can be…
Focusing on a simple three neutrino oscillation scenario motivated by the recent Super-Kamiokande result, we discuss both tree-level and 1-loop contributions to neutrino masses in supersymmetry without R-parity, aiming at discerning the flavor structure issues of the theory. The single-VEV parametrization framework, which allows the first consistent treatment of the bilinear and trilinear R-parity violating terms, and hence the tree and 1-loop contributions, without any assumption on the nature of R-parity violation. Though the very small neutrino masses implies stringent suppressions of the r…
In this lectures, we give a review about the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with $R$-Parity Violation because it provides an attractive way to generate neutrino masses, lepton mixing angles in acconcordance to present neutrino data.
The MSSM with $R$-Parity violation allows flavour changing neutral currents through two mechanisms, directly through one loop diagrams, and indirectly through the generation of flavour violation in the sparticle sector. We discuss the use of these mechanisms for constraining $R$-Parity violation, and show that the indirect mechanism parametrised in terms of the running of the soft masses from the unification or Planck scale typically dominates previously calculated effects. We discuss neutrino mass generation, $μ\to eγ$, $b\to sγ$, and $K^0-\bar K^0$ mixing as examples.
In this paper we study flavor violation in supersymmetric models with gauged flavor symmetries. There are several sources of flavor violation in these theories. The dominant flavor violation is the tree-level $D$-term contribution to scalar masses generated by flavor symmetry breaking. We present a new approach for suppressing this phenomenologically dangerous effects by separating the flavor-breaking sector from supersymmetry-breaking one. The separation can be achieved in geometrical setups or in a dynamical way. We also point out that radiative corrections from the gauginos of gauged flavor…
The study of parity-violation in semi-leptonic processes has yielded important insights into the structure of the Standard Model and the substructure of the nucleon. I discuss the future of semi-leptonic parity-violation and the role it might play in uncovering physics beyond the Standard Model.
Models of minimal lepton flavor violation where the seesaw scale is higher than the relevant flavor scale predict that all lepton flavor violation is proportional to the charged lepton Yukawa matrix. If extra vector-like leptons are within the reach of the LHC, it will be possible to test the resulting predictions in ATLAS/CMS.
A minimal flavour violation hypothesis for leptons can be implemented essentially in two ways that are compatible with a type-I seesaw structure with three heavy singlet neutrinos $N$, and that satisfy the requirement of being predictive, in the sense that all lepton flavor violating (LFV) effects can be expressed in terms of low energy observables. The first realization is CP conserving and is based on the flavor group $SU(3)_e\times SU(3)_\ell\times O(3)_N$ (being $e$ and $\ell$ the SU(2) singlet and doublet leptons). The second realization allows for CP violation and is based on $SU(3)_e\ti…
Besides the fact of parity violation in weak interactions, based on evidences from neutrino oscillation and tritium beta decay, a natural conjecture is that neutrinos may be spacelike particles with a tiny proper mass. A Dirac-type equation for spacelike neutrinos is further investigated and its solutions are discussed. This equation can be written in two spinor equations coupled together via nonzero proper mass while respecting maximum parity violation.
We investigate the implications of $R$-Parity violation (RPV) for quark flavour violation both by constraining the sneutrino masses to be positive and by studying the processes $b\to sγ$ and $K^0-\bar K^0$ mixing. In the latter there are two major contributions, one from ``direct'' one loop diagrams involving RPV couplings, and one from the ``indirect'' contributions generated by the renormalisation group. We compare the effects and discuss the implications of our results.
Minimal Flavor Violation in the up-type quark sector leads to particularly interesting phenomenology due to the interplay of flavor physics in the charm sector and collider physics from flavor changing processes in the top sector. We study the most general operators that can affect top quark properties and $D$ meson decays in this scenario, concentrating on two CP violating operators for detailed studies. The consequences of these effective operators on charm and top flavor changing processes are generically small, but can be enhanced if there exists a light flavor mediator that is a Standard …
The Minimal Flavor Violation hypothesis (MFV) is extended to the R-parity violating MSSM, supplemented with a simple seesaw mechanism. The requirement of MFV is shown to suppress lepton and baryon-number violating couplings sufficiently to pass all experimental bounds, in particular those for proton decay, and is thus a viable alternative to R-parity. The phenomenological consequences for FCNC, LFV and colliders are briefly discussed. Typically, MFV predicts sizeable baryon-number violation in some characteristic channels, like single stop resonant production.
In this talk, we investigate Lepton Flavor Violating (LFV) tau decay by R-Parity Violating (RPV) operators controlled by a non-Abelian discrete $Q_6$ family symmetry. We assume that only a family symmetry determines the whole flavor structure of a model, and the model indicates specific predictions of LFV tau decay processes by RPV operators. We predict $BR(τ\to 3e)/BR(τ\to 3 μ) \sim 4 m_μ^2/m_τ^2$ in a $Q_6$ family symmetric model.
We present a variant of the warped extra dimension, Randall-Sundrum (RS), framework which is based on five dimensional (5D) minimal flavor violation (MFV), in which the only sources of flavor breaking are two 5D anarchic Yukawa matrices. The Yukawa matrices also control the bulk masses, which are responsible for the resulting flavor structure and mass hierarchy in the low energy theory. An interesting result of this set-up is that at low energies the theory flows to next to MFV model where flavor violation is dominantly coming from the third generation. Low energy flavor violation is further s…
Theories of flavor violation beyond the Standard Model typically suppose that the new contributions must be small, for example suppressed by Yukawa couplings, as in Minimal Flavor Violation. We show that this need not be true, presenting a case for flavor violation which maximally mixes the first and third generation flavors. As an example, we realize this scenario via new right-handed gauge bosons, which couple predominantly to the combinations (u,b)_R and (t,d)_R. We show that this new flavor violation could be responsible for several anomalies, focusing in particular on the B_d and B_s syst…
Minimal Flavor Violation is an attractive approach to suppress unacceptably large flavor changing neutral currents from beyond the standard model physics at the TeV scale. It can be used in theories with low energy supersymmetry, multi Higgs doublet theories and other extensions of the minimal standard model. We show how minimal flavor violation can be implemented in Grand Unified theories.
The flavor changing top quark decays t -> cV (V=Z,photon, gluon) induced by R-parity-violating couplings in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) are evaluated. We find that the decays t -> cV can be significantly enhanced relative to those in the R-parity conserving SUSY model. Our results show that the top quark FCNC decay can be as large as Br(t->cg)=10^-3, Br(t->cZ)=10^-4 and Br(t-> cγ)= 10^-5, which may be observable at the upgraded Tevatron and/or the LHC.
We construct basis-independent expressions that measure the magnitude of $R$-parity breaking due to possible superpotential terms in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, in the absence of soft supersymmetry-breaking terms and spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking. We also discuss briefly their application to a consistent treatment of cosmological constraints on $R$-parity violation.
We show that new physics models without new flavor violating interactions can explain the recent anomalies in the $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ transitions. The $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ arises from a $Z'$ penguin which automatically predicts the $V-A$ structure for the quark currents in the effective operators. This framework can be realized either in a renormalizable $U(1)'$ setup or be due to new strongly interacting dynamics. The di-muon resonance searches at the LHC are becoming sensitive to this scenario since the $Z'$ is relatively light, and could well be discovered in future searches by ATLAS and C…
We discuss possible constraints on R-parity violation from recently announced Belle/Babar results on the B\toτνbranching fraction, and the bounds on τ^-\to\ell^- K_S^0 (\ell=e or μ) from Babar.
In the framework of the supersymmetric theories with R-parity violation we consider the process $γγ\to ν_i \bar{ν_j}$ and its contribution into energy loss from the stars.Under some conditions the studied contribution exceeds the standard model contribution to the same process.
We propose a new method, using the Andreev reflection at superconductors, to measure parity violation induced by the standard electroweak theory, which in turn constrains the possible parity-violating effects of new physics. The weak neutral currents induce parity-violating, marginal effective operators, though quite tiny, in superconductors. We estimate their effects on superconducting gaps and propose a method to measure the parity-violation from the spin polarization effect, when electrons or holes get Andreev-reflected at the interface between normal metal and a superconductor. Such polari…
We compute the neutralino decay rate in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with the addition of explicit R-parity violation. We include the complete squark and slepton mixing matrices, previously neglected, and we improve and correct published formulas. These decays are relevant to accelerator and non-accelerator searches for R-parity violation, and are especially interesting in light of the reported high Q^2 anomaly at HERA.
We present and discuss constraints on supersymmetric type I seesaw models imposed by neutrino data, charged lepton flavor violation and thermal leptogenesis.
We investigate bounds from tree-level and one-loop processes in generic supersymmetric models with spontaneous R-parity breaking in the superpotential. We analyse the bounds from a general point of view. The bounds are applicable both for all models with spontaneous R-parity violation and for explicit bilinear R-parity violation based on general lepton-chargino and neutrino-neutralino mixings. We find constraints from semileptonic B, D and K decays, leptonic decays of the mu and tau, electric dipole moments, as well as bounds for the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon.
We have studied new CP violating effects in $Λ_b \to p π$ decay mode, that can arise in Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with R-parity violation. We have estimated how much R-parity violation modifies the Standard Model predictions for CP asymmetries within the present bounds. We found that in the R-parity violating model, the rate asymmetry ($a_{cp}$) is suppressed (about 10 times) and the asymmetry parameter $A(α)$ is enhanced (approximately $10^2$ times) with respect to the SM predictions.
We derive the upper bounds on certain products of R-parity- and lepton-flavor-violating couplings from the decays of the neutral $B$ meson into two charged leptons. These modes of $B^0$ decays can constrain the product combinations of the couplings with one or more heavy generation indices. We find that most of these bounds are stronger than the previous ones.
The study for lepton flavor violation combined with the neutrino oscillation may provide more information about the lepton flavor structure of the grand unified theory. In this paper, we study two lepton flavor violation processes, $τ\to μγ$ and $Z\to τμ$, in the context of supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified models. We find the two processes are both of phenomenological interest. In particular the latter may be important in some supersymmetric parameter space where the former is suppressed. Thus, Z-dacay may offer another chance for looking for lepton flavor violation.
Supersymmetry without R-parity predicts tree level quark flavor violation. We present a potential signal of single bottom production at electron-positron colliders with energies in the range 6 to 20 GeV. Taking into account rare decay limits it should be detectable with the current BaBar and Belle data samples.
Lepton-flavor-violating decays of the type L->l gamma gamma (mu->e gamma gamma, tau->e gamma gamma, and tau->mu gamma gamma) are proposed as new probes of R-parity-violating supersymmetry. Non-penguin diagrams with a sneutrino that decays into two photons via a triangle graph might trigger such decays even in the absence of the corresponding radiative decays into one photon only, e.g. mu->e gamma. Thus, processes of the type L->l gamma gamma may provide an independent probe of new flavor physics.
We study CP violating B decays in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with R-parity violation. We estimate how much R-parity violation modifies the SM predictions for CP asymmetries in B decays within the present bounds. The effects of R-parity- and lepton-number-violating couplings on the ratio of the decay amplitude due to R-parity violation to that of the SM can differ by one or two orders of magnitudes depending on the models of the left-handed quark mixing. It is possible to disentangle the R-parity violating effects from those of the SM and R-parity- conserving supersymmetric model…
Recent results from Super Kamiokande suggest $ν_μ-ν_τ$ mixing and hence lepton flavor violation. In supersymmetric models, this flavor violation may have implications for the pattern of slepton masses and mixings. Possible signals for this mixing in the decays of sleptons produced at the LHC are discussed. The sensitivity expected is compared to that of rare decays such as $τ\to μγ$.
I consider parity violation of the chiral symmetry broken vacuum. It is shown that the parity of the true vacuum in the chiral symmetry breaking model is violated. I propose new mechanism of massive neutrino, which the neutrinos have mass in terms of the chiral symmetry breaking. In this mechanism, it may give us new understanding why almost neutrinos have left chirality. Further, NJL model is proposed as alternative phenomenological model of neutrinos.
A comparison of spectra obtained using the 1-loop MSSM and 2-loop R-parity violating MSSM renormalization group equations is presented. Influence of higher loop corrections and R-parity violating terms is discussed. Some numerical constraints on the R-parity violating parameters are also given.
We perform a critical reassessment of the constraints on the R-parity and baryon number violating (s)top couplings coming from flavor physics. In particular, we study K0-K0bar mixing, including QCD corrections and a class of diagrams that were neglected in previous analyses: both effects give sizeable contributions. We explain how the resulting bounds can be translated into constraints on individual couplings in the simplest class of flavor models, based on U(1) horizontal symmetries. We finally discuss the implications for the possibility of observing single superparticle production at the Te…
We investigate possibilities for dynamical P-parity violation in dense baryon matter in the framework of effective quark models. Dynamical P-parity violation can appear in models with at least two scalar and two pseudoscalar fields, where both scalar fields are condensed at normal conditions. At special configurations of coupling constants, one of pseudoscalar fields can then also condense at some value of baryon density, the phenomenon results in mixing of the scalar and pseudoscalar physical degrees of freedom, hence, giving rise to P-parity violation. We discuss the implications and possibl…
In these Lectures we review the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model as well as some of its extensions that include R-Parity violation. The cases of spontaneous breaking of R-Parity as well as that of explicit violation through bilinear terms in the superpotential are studied in detail. The signals at LEP and the prospects for LHC are discussed.
