Recent results on CP parameters of the B systems obtained by the CDF and D0 collaborations using the data samples collected at the Tevatron Collider in the period 2002 - 2007 were presented at the QCD 2008 conference (Montpellier, France). These results include measurements of the mixing phase, decay width difference, and CP violation parameters in the Bs and Bu decays.
A summary of the most up-to-date top quark mass measurements at CDF is presented. These analyses use top-antitop candidate events detected in the CDF experiment at the Tevatron collider with an integrated luminosity of up to ~3/fb. The combination of all those measurements together with the corresponding top mass measurements from the concurrently running D0 experiment at the Tevatron yields a world average of M_t=[173.1+/-0.6(stat.)+/-1.1(syst.)] GeV/c^2.
Results on diffraction from the Fermilab Tevatron collider obtained by the CDF II Collaboration using data from proton-antiproton collisions at a c.m.s. energy of 1.96 TeV are reviewed and compared with theoretical expectations. Implications for predictions of exclusive Higgs boson production rates at the Large Hadron Collider are discussed.
The Forward Detector upgrade project at CDF is designed to enhance the capabilities for studies of diffractive physics at the Tevatron during Run II. Studies of hard diffraction and very forward physics are some of the topics that can be addressed in the next few years at the Tevatron. The program for diffractive physics, including the detectors and their commissioning, is discussed here. All the detectors have been installed and are presently collecting data.
We present combined results on the search for neutral supersymmetric Higgs bosons with data collected at the CDF and D0 experiments. Data were collected in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV during Run II of the Tevatron. The searches considered cover the main production and decay mechanisms for Higgs bosons in tau lepton and bottom quark final states. The resulting combination is interpreted in the context of different scenarios within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.
Results on hard diffraction from CDF are reviewed with emphasis on the determination of the diffractive structure function of the (anti)proton from single diffractive and double Pomeron exchange dijet production. Comparison of the diffractive dijet results with predictions based on diffractive deep inelastic scattering at HERA shows a breakdown of conventional QCD factorization. A similar breakdown is observed within the CDF results in comparing the structure functions obtained from single diffraction and double Pomeron exchange.
We summarize the current top-quark mass measurements from the CDF and D0 experiments at Fermilab. We combine published Run I (1992--1996) results with the most precise published and preliminary Run II (2001--2011) measurements based on data corresponding to up to 9.7 fb$^{-1}$ of $p\bar{p}$ collisions. Taking correlations of uncertainties into account, and combining the statistical and systematic uncertainties, the resulting preliminary Tevatron average mass of the top quark is $M_{top} = 174.34 \pm 0.64 ~GeV/c^2$, corresponding to a relative precision of 0.37%.
We summarize the current top-quark mass measurements from the CDF and DO experiments at Fermilab. We combine published Run I (1992--1996) measurements with the most precise published and preliminary Run II (2001--2011) measurements based on data sets corresponding to up to 8.7 fb^{-1} of ppbar collisions. Taking correlations of uncertainties into account, and combining the statistical and systematic uncertainties, the resulting preliminary Tevatron average mass of the top quark is M_top = 173.20 \pm 0.87 GeV/c^2, corresponding to a relative precision of 0.50 %.
We summarize the current top quark mass ($m_t$) measurements from the CDF and D0 experiments at Fermilab. We combine published results from Run I (1992--1996) with the most precise published and preliminary Run II (2001--2011) measurements based on $p\bar{p}$ data corresponding to up to $9.7\:{\rm fb}^{-1}$ of $p\bar{p}$ collisions. Taking correlations of uncertainties into account, and combining the statistical and systematic contributions in quadrature, the preliminary Tevatron average mass value for the top quark is $m_t = 174.30 \ \pm 0.65\:\mathrm{GeV}/c^{2}$, corresponding to a relative …
The 1992-1995 running of the Fermilab Tevatron ended with many important physics goals accomplished, including the discovery of the top quark, and the anticipation of many further questions to be answered in the future. After many upgrades to the detector and to the accelerator complex, Run II began in April 2001. First results obtained by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) collaboration from the analysis of early Tevatron Run II data are reported here. They fall in two categories: a number of measurements have been performed with the primary goal of establishing detector performance and …
We present 90% confidence level limits on magnetic monopole production at the Fermilab Tevatron from three sets of samples obtained from the D0 and CDF detectors each exposed to a proton-antiproton luminosity of $\sim175 {pb}^{-1}$ (experiment E-882). Limits are obtained for the production cross-sections and masses for low-mass accelerator-produced pointlike Dirac monopoles trapped and bound in material surrounding the D0 and CDF collision regions. In the absence of a complete quantum field theory of magnetic charge, we estimate these limits on the basis of a Drell-Yan model. These results (fo…
The ttbar spin correlation at production is a fundamental prediction of QCD and a potentially incisive test of new physics coupled to top quarks. We measure the ttbar spin state in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV using 1001 candidate events in the lepton plus jets decay channel reconstructed in the CDF II detector. In the helicity basis, for a top-quark mass of 172.5 GeV/c^2, we find a spin correlation coefficient kappa = 0.60 +/- 0.50 (stat) +/- 0.16 (syst), consistent with the QCD prediction, kappa ~= 0.40.
Fermilab's Tevatron accelerator is recently performing at record luminosities that enables a program systematically addressing the physics of top quarks. The CDF collaboration has analyzed up to 5/fb of proton anti-proton collisions from the Tevatron at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The large datasets available allow to push top quark measurements to higher and higher precision and have lead to the recent observation of electroweak single top quark production at the Tevatron. This article reviews recent results on top quark physics from the CDF experiment.
First charm physics results from the CDF and D0 experiments at the Tevatron Run II are presented. With the addition of the Secondary Vertex Trigger CDF has become a competitive charm experiment.
The phenomenology of b-production and some of the previous Run I measurements of CDF and D0 are briefly reviewed. A new analysis by CDF of Run I b-bbar angular correlations and a new measurement by D0 of Run II b-jet cross-section, are presented.
The D0 and CDF detectors at the Fermilab Tevatron have each accumulated more that 9/fb of integrated luminosity. The corresponding large datasets enable the two experiments to perform unprecedented studies of heavy flavor hadron properties. We present recent D0 and CDF measurements, focusing on rare decays and CP violation in B-meson decays.
We present measurements of the top-antitop production cross section in b-tagged lepton + jets events from proton-antiproton collisions at 1.96 TeV using the CDF detector at Fermilab. B-jets are tagged with either a secondary vertex algorithm, or a soft lepton tagger that identifies muons from B hadron semileptonic decays. With Tevatron Run II data, we estimate the top-antitop signal fraction in two different ways: by estimating the various background contributions, and by fitting directly the leading jet transverse energy spectrum for the signal and background contributions. A subset of the sa…
The Tevatron Run II program is in progress since 2001. The CDF experiment have accumulated roughly five times more data than in Run I, with much improved detectors. Preliminary results from the CDF experiment are presented. We focus on the recent high $p_{T}$ physics results in Tevatron Run II program.
The CDF and D0 experiments finalize the analysis of their full statistics collected in the $p \bar p$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. This paper presents several new results on the properties of hadrons containing heavy $b$- and $c$-quarks obtained by both collaborations. These results include the search for the rare decays $B^0, B^0_s \to μ^+ μ^-$ (CDF), the study of CP asymmetry in $B_s \to Jψϕ$ decay (CDF, D0), the measurement of the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry (D0), the measurement of CP asymmetry in $D^0 \to K^+K^-$ a…
We present the latest CDF searches for the Standard Model Higgs boson with 1.96 TeV center-of-mass energy collisions produced at the Fermilab Tevatron. The data was collected with the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity from 2 to 4.8 1/fb. To achieve maximal sensitivity, many channels are analyzed including final states from gluon fusion, vector boson fusion, and associated production with W and Z bosons.
The latest results in B physics from the CDF and D0 experiments at the Tevatron are presented, including inclusive b lifetime measurement and exclusive lifetime measurement of the B_s. Promising samples collected by CDF with its Secondary Vertex Trigger are shown as well.
This paper summarizes the main current upgrade for Diffractive Physics at Tevatron. We describe both CDF and D0 new devices that are being installed around the CDF and D0 area that will allow to produce new results in Diffractive Physics.
The production of single-top quarks occurs via the weak interaction at the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton collider. Single top quark events are selected in the lepton+jets final state by CDF and D0 and in the missing transverse energy plus jets final state by CDF. Multivariate classifiers separate the s-channel and t-channel single-top signals from the large backgrounds. The combination of CDF and D0 results leads to the first observation of the s-channel mode of single top quark production. The t-channel and single top combined cross sections have also been measured.
Using data from proton - antiproton collisions at Ecms = 1.96 TeV recorded by the CDF II and D0 detectors at the Fermilab Tevatron, we present the recent results on charm and bottom hadrons. We report the most recent CDF results on properties of the four bottom baryon resonant states Sigma_b(*)-, Sigma_b(*)+. The new results on exotic Y(4140) state observed by CDF are reported. A precise measurement of production rates of the basic lowest lying bottom baryon Lambda_b produced in the DZero detector is presented.
The latest CDF and D0 experiment measurements of the top quark properties except the top quark mass are presented. The final combination of the CDF and D0 forward-backward asymmetry measurements is shown together with the D0 measurements of the inclusive top quark pair cross-section as well as the top quark polarization.
This paper reports the most recent measurements of single top quark production performed by CDF and D0 collaborations in proton-antiproton collisions at Tevatron. Events are selected in the lepton+jets final state by CDF and D0 and in the missing transverse energy plus jets final state by CDF. The small single top signal in s-channel, t-channel and inclusive s+t channel is separated from the large background by using different multivariate techniques. We also present the most recent results on extraction of the CKM matrix element $|V_{tb}|$ from the single top quark cross section.
Measurements of the inclusive jet cross section and the dijet angular distribution using data from the Tevatron are presented. Comparisons to NLO QCD show good agreement below 250 GeV, but CDF data show an excess at higher ET; qualitative agreement is seen between the CDF and DO cross sections. Analysis of the dijet angular distributions exclude quark compositeness below 2.1 TeV.
The top quark, discovered in 1995 by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Tevatron proton antiproton collider at Fermilab, has undergone intense studies in the last 20 years. Currently, CDF and D0 converge on their measurements of top-antitop quark production cross sections using the full Tevatron data sample. In these proceedings, the latest results on inclusive and differential measurements of top-antitop quark production cross sections at the Tevatron are reported.
We present three recent photon analyses from data collected at the Fermilab Tevatron: measurements of the direct photon pair production cross section at CDF and D0, measurements of azimuthal decorrelations and multiple parton interactions in gamma + 2 jet and gamma + 3 jet events at D0, and an observation of exclusive diphoton production at CDF.
We present the non-standard model Higgs boson searches at both DO and CDF experiments. We concentrate on three topics, reported by DO and CDF recently: the searches for the minimal supersymmetric Higgs boson using pp--> hbb --> bbbb and pp --> hX --> tau tau X, and for long-lived doubly charged Higgs boson.
Twenty years after its discovery in 1995 by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider at Fermilab, the top quark still undergoes intensive studies at the Tevatron and the LHC at CERN. In this article, recent top quark physics results from CDF and D0 are reported. In particular, measurements of single top quark and double top quark production, the ttbar forward-backward asymmetry and the top quark mass are discussed.
The top quark has been discovered in 1995 at the CDF and DO experiments located in the Tevatron ring at the Fermilab laboratory. After more than a decade the Tevatron collider, with its center-of-mass energy collisions of 1.96 TeV, is still the only machine capable of producing such exceptionally heavy particle. Here I present a selection of the most recent CDF and DO measurements performed analyzing ~ 1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity.
Quark-quark and quark-lepton searches for compositenss at the Fermilab Tevatron are summarized. These are of the contact-interaction variety where sqrt(s-hat) < the hypothesized mass scales, Lambda. Tevatron experiments limit a variety of compositeness phenomena in the range from 1.9 to 8.3 TeV. These limits result from measurements of: the Ht spectrum (D0), dijet mass (D0), dijet angular distribution (CDF, D0), drell-yan production (CDF, D0), and the Neutral Current to Charged Current ratio (CCFR/NuTeV).
In this report, we summarize the latest results of the top-quark pair production asymmetry and present the new result of bottom-quark pair production asymmetry. By looking at the results obtained by the CDF experiment, one can see a discrepancy in both $t\bar{t}$ inclusive and lepton-based measurements. The D0 results of the $t\bar{t}$ production asymmetry are compatible with the standard-model predictions as well as with the CDF results. The CDF measurement of $b\bar{b}$ production asymmetry presents consistency with both zero and with the standard-model predictions.
Since the discovery of the top quark in 1995 by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Fermilab Tevatron proton antiproton collider, precise measurements of its mass are ongoing. Using data recorded by the D0 and CDF experiment, corresponding to up to the full Tevatron data sample, top quark mass measurements performed in different final states using various extraction techniques are presented in this article. The recent Tevatron top quark mass combination yields m_t=173.20 +-0.87 GeV. Furthermore, measurements of the top antitop quark mass difference from the Tevatron are discussed.
Measurements of the top quark mass and the t-tbar and single top production cross sections, obtained by CDF and D0 Collaboration at the Tevatron, are presented. The methodology of the CDF and D0 analyses and their underlying assumptions are summarized. In anticipation of the increased amount of data in Run-II, prospects are presented. The fact that top quark analyses are among the best windows to new physics beyond the Standard Model is emphasized.
Recent electroweak results from the CDF and D0 Collaborations at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider are presented. After a brief description of the \D0 measurements of W/Z production cross sections, W width, W mass and W \to τνdecays, the CDF result on W(pT) distribution is outlined. The comprehensive search for anomalous gauge couplings by \D0 in 1992-96 data is presented along with a detailed description of the WW/WZ \to μνjj channel.
Measuring the oscillation frequency in the $B_s^0$-meson system was one of the main goals in b-physics for the two experiments CDF and DØ at the Tevatron-Collider since the start of RunII in the year 2001. The DØ collaboration was the first experiment, which was able to give a two sided limit for the oscillation frequency of $B_s^0$ mesons. Shortly after the CDF collaboration confirmed this result and was able to give a $5σ$ measurement.
We summarize and combine direct measurements of the width of the W boson in data collected by the Tevatron experiments CDF and D0 at Fermilab. Results from CDF and D0 RunI (1992-1995) have been combined with the CDF 200 pb^-1 results from the first period of RunII (2001-2004) and the recent 1 fb^-1 result in the electron channel from D0 (2002-2006). The results are corrected for any inconsistencies in parton distribution functions and assumptions about electroweak parameters used in the different analyses. The resulting Tevatron average for the width of the W boson is Gamma_W = 2,046 +- 49.
The heaviest known elementary particle today, the top quark, has been discovered in 1995 by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Tevatron proton antiproton collider at Fermilab. Recently, the CDF and D0 collaborations have studied the forward-backward asymmetry in ttbar events, resulting in measured values larger than the standard model prediction. With the start of the LHC at CERN in 2010, a new top quark factory has opened and asymmetry measurements in ttbar have also been performed in a proton proton environment with higher collision energy. No deviations from the standard model have been n…
After a hiatus of almost 6 years and an extensive upgrade, Tevatron, the world largest proton--antiproton collider, has resumed the operation for the so called RUN II. In this paper we give a brief overview of the many new features of the Tevatron complex and of the upgraded CDF experiment, and show the presently achieved detector performances as well as highlights of the RUN II physics program in the beauty and electroweak sector.
I present measurements by the CDF collaboration of the Standard Model three generation CKM matrix element Vtb and of a special case extension with additional assumptions, using current Tevatron ttbar data. I then show how we can significantly improve the precision on Vtb and at the same time extend the measurement so it is not constrained by Standard Model assumptions, using single top production at the upgraded Tevatron.
The mass of the W boson is one of the least precisely measured parameters of the electroweak interaction. Confronted with other measurements of standard model parameters it can test the internal consistency of the Standard Model and can constrain the possible mass of the standard model Higgs boson. The CDF collaboration has published the current single most precise measurement of the W boson mass using 200 pb-1 of CDF Run II p-pbar data, and an improved measurement with 2.4 fb-1 of CDF Run II data is underway. Both measurements are described in detail in these proceedings.
We present an overview of a few recent results related to CP-violation from the Tevatron. First, we discuss a measurement of the dimuon charge asymmetry from DØthat extracts the CP-violation parameter of $\Bo$ mixing and decay. This is followed by the CDF measurement of the CP-violating asymmetry in $\bdkpi$ decays. Finally we give the CDF result on the ratio $R = \frac{BR(B \to D^0 K)}{BR(B \to D^0 π)}$
Results for the production of charm and beauty quarks in proton anti-proton collisions at ECM=1.96 TeV (Tevatron) with the two multi purpose experiments CDF and D0 using an integrated luminosity of up to 1 fb^-1 are presented. With the data measurement of the production me chanism for charm and beauty quarks are done. These measurements are leading to a better understanding of the QCD in the transition region between pertubative a nd nonpertubative QCD. The charm-charm angular correlation is measured with D me sons at the CDF experiment. The Quarkonium production for charm and beauty final sta…
We discuss recent results obtained by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron $p\bar p$ collider and recent combinations of CDF and D0 measurements. Regarding the top quark mass, we present recent measurements obtained at D0, the final Run~I+Run~II D0 combination, as well as the preliminary Run~I+Run~II CDF+D0 combination. We also discuss the combination of the CDF+D0 measurements of the $p\bar p \to t\bar t$ forward-backward asymmetry. We present the first measurement of the direct CP-violating charge asymmetry in $B^\pm$ mesons decaying to $μ^\pm D^{0} X$, and discuss the status of the re…
This letter presents results on the precision measurement of the top quark mass and a combination of the best CDF top mass measurements. A combination by the TevEWWG (Tevatron electroweak working group) of the best top mass results from CDF and D0 in Run 1 and Run 2 of the Tevatron is also presented. This result is the current world average, and offers an uncertainty less than 1%. The new mass value has been included in traditional LEP EWWG fits to precision electroweak data, and implications for the Standard Model Higgs have been derived.
We present measurements of charmonium and bottomonium production using a data sample collected by CDF during the 1992-93 p-pbar collider run at the Fermilab Tevatron.
We present the latest $B$ hadron lifetimes, $B^0_s$ mixing, and $D^0$ mixing measurements using up to 3.0 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected by CDF and D0 experiments at Fermilab. The $B^0_s$ lifetime is measured from both $J/ψϕ$ (CP admixture) and flavor specific channels, and the $B_c$ lifetime is obtained from semileptonic channels. Following the $B^0_s$ oscillation frequency measurement at CDF in 2006, the D0 collaboration now observes $B^0_s$ oscillation at a significance of about 3$σ$. Since the first $D^0$ mixing evidence established at $B$ factories in 2007, CDF has observed $D^0$ mixing at a…
The results on the direct measurements of the W-boson width, based on the data collected by the Tevatron experiments CDF and DØat Fermilab during {\RunI} from 1992 to 1996 and {\RunII} since 2001 are summarized. The combination of the published {\RunI} and preliminary {\RunII} results, taking correlated uncertainties properly into account, is presented. The resulting preliminary Tevatron average for the total decay width of the W boson is: $\GW=2078\pm87 \MeV$, where the total error consists of a statistical part of $62 \MeV$ and a systematic part of $60 \MeV$.
Recent results of searches for new physics in top events at the Tevatron are presented. In case of CDF three searches are discussed using 6.0 to 8.7 fb^{-1} of data, with the latter being the final CDF data sample available for this kind of analysis. CDF carried out a search for Top + jet resonance production, dark matter production in association with single top and boosted tops. No signs of new physics are observed and instead upper limits are derived. DØ used 5.3 fb^{-1} of data and searched for a narrow resonance in ttbar production and a time dependent ttbar cross section, which would rev…
We review the most recent measurements of the top quark mass using data collected by the CDF experiment at the Tevatron 1.96 TeV ppbar collider. The mass measurements are performed in all main decay modes of the produced ttbar pairs using integrated luminosities up to 2fb-1. In most channels the total uncertainty is dominated by systematic effects, most of which are currently being revised. The precise measurement of the top quark mass is one of the Tevatron's main and long lasting legacies. Besides serving as a benchmark measurement at the LHC collider, it will serve as a consistency check of…
The CDF and DØ experiments at the Tevatron are currently the only capable of searching for the Standard Model Higgs boson. This article describes their most sensitive searches in the expected Higgs mass range, focusing on advanced methods used to extract the maximal sensitivity from the data. CDF presents newly updated results for $H \to W^+W^-$ and $ZH \to l^+l^- b\bar{b}$. DØ\ presents two new searches for $WH \to lνb\bar{b}$. These new analyses use the same 1 fb$^{-1}$ dataset as previous searches, but with improved techniques resulting in markedly improved sensitivity.
We report on a search for Standard Model t-channel ans s-channel single top quark production in p-pbar collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. We use a data sample corresponding to 0.7 fb-1 recorded by the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDFII) and a data sample corresponding to 370 pb-1 recorded by D0. Both CDF and D0 find no significant evidence for electroweak top quark production and set upper limits at the 95 % confidence level on the production cross section
The W boson mass (mW) is a key parameter of the standard model, constraining the mass of the unobserved Higgs boson. Using Tevatron ppbar collision data from 1992-1996, the CDF and D0 collaborations measured mW to a precision of 59 MeV. The ongoing Tevatron Run 2 has produced a factor of 5 more collisions, promising a significant reduction in the W mass uncertainty. CDF has analyzed the first 200/pb of Run 2 data and determined the uncertainty on its W mass measurement to be 76 MeV.
We summarize and combine the results on the direct measurements of the mass of the W boson in data collected by the Tevatron experiments CDF and D0 at Fermilab. Results from CDF Run-0 (1988-1889) and Run-I (1992-1995) have been combined with D0 results from Run-I, the CDF 200 pb^(-1) published results from the first period of Run-II (2001-2004) and the recent 1 fb^(-1) result in the electron channel from D0 (2002-2006). The results are corrected for any inconsistencies in parton distribution functions and assumptions about electroweak parameters used in the different analyses. The resulting Te…
